¹O foolish Galatians, who did bewitch you, before whose eyes Jesus Christ was openly set forth crucified?

¹O Galates, dépourvus de sens! qui vous a fascinés, vous, aux yeux de qui Jésus-Christ a été peint comme crucifié?

¹אהה גלטים חסרי דעת מי התעה אתכם בכשפיו משמע את האמת אחרי אשר ציר בתוככם ישוע המשיח הצלוב לנגד עיניכם׃

²This only would I learn from you. Received ye the Spirit by the works of the law, or by the hearing of faith?

²Voici seulement ce que je veux apprendre de vous: Est-ce par les oeuvres de la loi que vous avez reçu l'Esprit, ou par la prédication de la foi?

²זאת לבד חפצתי ללמד מכם האם ממעשי התורה קבלתם את הרוח או משמועת האמונה׃

³Are ye so foolish? having begun in the Spirit, are ye now perfected in the flesh?

³Etes-vous tellement dépourvus de sens? Après avoir commencé par l'Esprit, voulez-vous maintenant finir par la chair?

³האתם סכלים כל כך אשר החלותם ברוח ועתה תכלו בבשר׃

⁴Did ye suffer so many things in vain? if it be indeed in vain.

⁴Avez-vous tant souffert en vain? si toutefois c'est en vain.

⁴הכזאת סבלתם לריק אם אמנם אך לריק׃

⁵He therefore that supplieth to you the Spirit, and worketh miracles among you, [doeth he it] by the works of the law, or by the hearing of faith?

⁵Celui qui vous accorde l'Esprit, et qui opère des miracles parmi vous, le fait-il donc par les oeuvres de la loi, ou par la prédication de la foi?

⁵הנה המפיק לכם את הרוח ופעל בכם גבורות הכי ממעשי התורה הוא עשה אלה או משמועת האמונה׃

⁶Even as Abraham believed God, and it was reckoned unto him for righteousness.

⁶Comme Abraham crut à Dieu, et que cela lui fut imputé à justice,

⁶כאשר האמין אברהם באלהים ותחשב לו לצדקה׃

⁷Know therefore that they that are of faith, the same are sons of Abraham.

⁷reconnaissez donc que ce sont ceux qui ont la foi qui sont fils d'Abraham.

⁷דעו אפוא כי בני האמונה בני אברהם המה׃

⁸And the scripture, foreseeing that God would justify the Gentiles by faith, preached the gospel beforehand unto Abraham, [saying,] In thee shall all the nations be blessed.

⁸Aussi l'Ecriture, prévoyant que Dieu justifierait les païens par la foi, a d'avance annoncé cette bonne nouvelle à Abraham: Toutes les nations seront bénies en toi!

⁸והמקרא בראתו מראש כי האלהים יצדיק את הגוים מתוך האמונה קדם לבשר את אברהם לאמר ונברכו בך כל הגוים׃

⁹So then they that are of faith are blessed with the faithful Abraham.

⁹de sorte que ceux qui croient sont bénis avec Abraham le croyant.

⁹על כן בני האמונה יתברכו עם אברהם המאמין׃

¹⁰For as many as are of the works of the law are under a curse: for it is written, Cursed is every one who continueth not in all things that are written in the book of the law, to do them.

¹⁰Car tous ceux qui s'attachent aux oeuvres de la loi sont sous la malédiction; car il est écrit: Maudit est quiconque n'observe pas tout ce qui est écrit dans le livre de la loi, et ne le met pas en pratique.

¹⁰כי בני מעשי התורה תחת הקללה המה שנאמר ארור אשר לא יקים את כל הדברים הכתובים בספר התורה לעשות אותם׃

¹¹Now that no man is justified by the law before God, is evident: for, The righteous shall live by faith;

¹¹Et que nul ne soit justifié devant Dieu par la loi, cela est évident, puisqu'il est dit: Le juste vivra par la foi.

¹¹וגלוי הוא כי על ידי התורה לא יצדק האדם לפני האלהים כי צדיק באמונתו יחיה׃

¹²and the law is not of faith; but, He that doeth them shall live in them.

¹²Or, la loi ne procède pas de la foi; mais elle dit: Celui qui mettra ces choses en pratique vivra par elles.

¹²והתורה איננה מן האמונה כי אם אשר יעשה אתם האדם וחי בהם׃

¹³Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law, having become a curse for us; for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree:

¹³Christ nous a rachetés de la malédiction de la loi, étant devenu malédiction pour nous-car il est écrit: Maudit est quiconque est pendu au bois, -

¹³המשיח פדנו מקללת התורה בהיותו לקללה בעדנו שנאמר קללת אלהים תלוי׃

¹⁴that upon the Gentiles might come the blessing of Abraham in Christ Jesus; that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith.

¹⁴afin que la bénédiction d'Abraham eût pour les païens son accomplissement en Jésus-Christ, et que nous reçussions par la foi l'Esprit qui avait été promis.

¹⁴למען אשר תבא ברכת אברהם במשיח ישוע על הגוים למען אשר נשא את הבטחת הרוח על ידי האמונה׃

¹⁵Brethren, I speak after the manner of men: Though it be but a man's covenant, yet when it hath been confirmed, no one maketh it void, or addeth thereto.

¹⁵Frères je parle à la manière des hommes, une disposition en bonne forme, bien que faite par un homme, n'est annulée par personne, et personne n'y ajoute.

¹⁵אחי לפי דרך אדם אדבר אפלו דיתיקי של בן אדם אם מקימת היא לא יפרנה איש גם לא יוסיף עליה דבר׃

¹⁶Now to Abraham were the promises spoken, and to his seed. He saith not, And to seeds, as of many; but as of one, And to thy seed, which is Christ.

¹⁶Or les promesses ont été faites à Abraham et à sa postérité. Il n'est pas dit: et aux postérités, comme s'il s'agissait de plusieurs, mais en tant qu'il s'agit d'une seule: et à ta postérité, c'est-à-dire, à Christ.

¹⁶והנה לאברהם נאמרו ההבטחות ולזרעו ולא אמר ולזרעיך כאלו לרבים אלא כאלו ליחיד ולזרעך והוא המשיח׃

¹⁷Now this I say: A covenant confirmed beforehand by God, the law, which came four hundred and thirty years after, doth not disannul, so as to make the promise of none effect.

¹⁷Voici ce que j'entends: une disposition, que Dieu a confirmée antérieurement, ne peut pas être annulée, et ainsi la promesse rendue vaine, par la loi survenue quatre cent trente ans plus tard.

¹⁷וזאת אני אמר כי דיתיקי אשר קימה האלהים מאז לימות המשיח לא תוכל התורה אשר באה אחרי ארבע מאות ושלשים שנה להפר אותה ולבטל את ההבטחה׃

¹⁸For if the inheritance is of the law, it is no more of promise: but God hath granted it to Abraham by promise.

¹⁸Car si l'héritage venait de la loi, il ne viendrait plus de la promesse; or, c'est par la promesse que Dieu a fait à Abraham ce don de sa grâce.

¹⁸כי אם תבוא הנחלה מתוך התורה לא תבוא עוד מתוך ההבטחה אבל את אברהם חנן האלהים על ידי הבטחה׃

¹⁹What then is the law? It was added because of transgressions, till the seed should come to whom the promise hath been made; [and it was] ordained through angels by the hand of a mediator.

¹⁹Pourquoi donc la loi? Elle a été donnée ensuite à cause des transgressions, jusqu'à ce que vînt la postérité à qui la promesse avait été faite; elle a été promulguée par des anges, au moyen d'un médiateur.

¹⁹אם כן התורה מה היא מפני הפשעים נוספה עד כי יבוא הזרע אשר לו ההבטחה ותושם התורה על ידי המלאכים וביד סרסר׃

²⁰Now a mediator is not [a mediator] of one; but God is one.

²⁰Or, le médiateur n'est pas médiateur d'un seul, tandis que Dieu est un seul.

²⁰והסרסר לא של אחד הוא אך האלהים הוא אחד׃

²¹Is the law then against the promises of God? God forbid: for if there had been a law given which could make alive, verily righteousness would have been of the law.

²¹La loi est-elle donc contre les promesses de Dieu? Loin de là! S'il eût été donné une loi qui pût procurer la vie, la justice viendrait réellement de la loi.

²¹ועתה הכי התורה סתרת את הבטחות האלהים חלילה כי אלו נתנה תורה אשר בכחה להחיות אז באמת היתה הצדקה על ידי התורה׃

²²But the scriptures shut up all things under sin, that the promise by faith in Jesus Christ might be given to them that believe.

²²Mais l'Ecriture a tout renfermé sous le péché, afin que ce qui avait été promis fût donné par la foi en Jésus-Christ à ceux qui croient.

²²אבל הכתוב סגר את הכל ביד החטא למען תנתן ההבטחה אל המאמינים באמונת ישוע המשיח׃

²³But before faith came, we were kept in ward under the law, shut up unto the faith which should afterwards be revealed.

²³Avant que la foi vînt, nous étions enfermés sous la garde de la loi, en vue de la foi qui devait être révélée.

²³לפני בוא האמונה היינו סגורים ונשמרים תחת התורה אלי האמונה העתידה להגלות׃

²⁴So that the law is become our tutor [to bring us] unto Christ, that we might be justified by faith.

²⁴Ainsi la loi a été comme un pédagogue pour nous conduire à Christ, afin que nous fussions justifiés par la foi.

²⁴ובכן התורה היתה אמנת אותנו אל המשיח למען נצדק על ידי האמונה׃

²⁵But now faith that is come, we are no longer under a tutor.

²⁵La foi étant venue, nous ne sommes plus sous ce pédagogue.

²⁵אבל עתה אחרי אשר באה האמונה אין אנחנו עוד תחת יד האמן׃

²⁶For ye are all sons of God, through faith, in Christ Jesus.

²⁶Car vous êtes tous fils de Dieu par la foi en Jésus-Christ;

²⁶כי כלכם בני אלהים אתם על ידי האמונה במשיח ישוע׃

²⁷For as many of you as were baptized into Christ did put on Christ.

²⁷vous tous, qui avez été baptisés en Christ, vous avez revêtu Christ.

²⁷כי כלכם אשר נטבלתם למשיח לבשתם את המשיח׃

²⁸There can be neither Jew nor Greek, there can be neither bond nor free, there can be no male and female; for ye all are one [man] in Christ Jesus.

²⁸Il n'y a plus ni Juif ni Grec, il n'y a plus ni esclave ni libre, il n'y a plus ni homme ni femme; car tous vous êtes un en Jésus-Christ.

²⁸ואין עוד לא יהודי ולא יוני לא עבד ולא בן חורין לא זכר ולא נקבה כי אתם כלכם אחד במשיח ישוע׃

²⁹And if ye are Christ's, then are ye Abraham's seed, heirs according to promise.

²⁹Et si vous êtes à Christ, vous êtes donc la postérité d'Abraham, héritiers selon la promesse.

²⁹ואם אתם למשיח הנכם זרע אברהם ונחלים כפי ההבטחה׃
