¹Wherefore leaving the doctrine of the first principles of Christ, let us press on unto perfection; not laying again a foundation of repentance from dead works, and of faith toward God,

¹C'est pourquoi, laissant les éléments de la parole de Christ, tendons à ce qui est parfait, sans poser de nouveau le fondement du renoncement aux oeuvres mortes, de la foi en Dieu,

¹על כן בעזב כעת ראשית דבר המשיח נעבר אל השלמות ולא נשוב לשית יסודי התשובה ממעשי מות והאמונה באלהים׃

²of the teaching of baptisms, and of laying on of hands, and of resurrection of the dead, and of eternal judgment.

²de la doctrine des baptêmes, de l'imposition des mains, de la résurrection des morts, et du jugement éternel.

²ותורת הטבילות וסמיכת ידים ותחית המתים והדין הנצחי׃

³And this will we do, if God permit.

³C'est ce que nous ferons, si Dieu le permet.

³ואת זאת נעשה אם יתן האל׃

⁴For as touching those who were once enlightened and tasted of the heavenly gift, and were made partakers of the Holy Spirit,

⁴Car il est impossible que ceux qui ont été une fois éclairés, qui ont goûté le don céleste, qui ont eu part au Saint-Esprit,

⁴כי אלה אשר נגה עליהם האור וטעמו ממתנת השמים ונתן להם חלקם ברוח הקדש׃

⁵and tasted the good word of God, and the powers of the age to come,

⁵qui ont goûté la bonne parole de Dieu et les puissances du siècle à venir,

⁵וטעמו את דבר אלהים הטוב וכחות העולם הבא וימעלו מעל׃

⁶and [then] fell away, it is impossible to renew them again unto repentance; seeing they crucify to themselves the Son of God afresh, and put him to an open shame.

⁶et qui sont tombés, soient encore renouvelés et amenés à la repentance, puisqu'ils crucifient pour leur part le Fils de Dieu et l'exposent à l'ignominie.

⁶נמנעו מהתחדש עוד לתשובה כי צלבו להם מחדש את בן האלהים ויתנוהו למשל׃

⁷For the land which hath drunk the rain that cometh oft upon it, and bringeth forth herbs meet for them for whose sake it is also tilled, receiveth blessing from God:

⁷Lorsqu'une terre est abreuvée par la pluie qui tombe souvent sur elle, et qu'elle produit une herbe utile à ceux pour qui elle est cultivée, elle participe à la bénédiction de Dieu;

⁷כי האדמה השותה את הגשם הירד עליה למכביר ומוציאה עשב טוב לעבדיה תשא ברכה מאת האלהים׃

⁸but if it beareth thorns and thistles, it is rejected and nigh unto a curse; whose end is to be burned.

⁸mais, si elle produit des épines et des chardons, elle est réprouvée et près d'être maudite, et on finit par y mettre le feu.

⁸ואשר תוציא קוץ ודרדר נמאסה היא וקרובה למארה וסופה להשרף׃

⁹But, beloved, we are persuaded better things of you, and things that accompany salvation, though we thus speak:

⁹Quoique nous parlions ainsi, bien-aimés, nous attendons, pour ce qui vous concerne, des choses meilleures et favorables au salut.

⁹אמנם ידידי מבטחים אנחנו בכם טבות מאלה וקרבות לישועה אף כי דברנו כזאת׃

¹⁰for God is not unrighteous to forget your work and the love which ye showed toward his name, in that ye ministered unto the saints, and still do minister.

¹⁰Car Dieu n'est pas injuste, pour oublier votre travail et l'amour que vous avez montré pour son nom, ayant rendu et rendant encore des services aux saints.

¹⁰כי האלהים לא יעות צדק לשכח את מעשיכם ואת עמל אהבתכם אשר הראיתם לשמו ששרתם ועודכם משרתים את הקדשים׃

¹¹And we desire that each one of you may show the same diligence unto the fulness of hope even to the end:

¹¹Nous désirons que chacun de vous montre le même zèle pour conserver jusqu'à la fin une pleine espérance,

¹¹אבל חפצנו שכל אחד מכם גם ישקד שקוד להחזיק בשלמות התקוה עד הקץ׃

¹²that ye be not sluggish, but imitators of them who through faith and patience inherit the promises.

¹²en sorte que vous ne vous relâchiez point, et que vous imitiez ceux qui, par la foi et la persévérance, héritent des promesses.

¹²שלא תעצלו כי אם תלכו בעקבות היורשים באמונה וארך רוח את ההבטחות׃

¹³For when God made promise to Abraham, since he could swear by none greater, he sware by himself,

¹³Lorsque Dieu fit la promesse à Abraham, ne pouvant jurer par un plus grand que lui, il jura par lui-même,

¹³כי בהבטיח אלהים את אברהם נשבע בנפשו יען אשר אין גדול ממנו להשבע בו׃

¹⁴saying, Surely blessing I will bless thee, and multiplying I will multiply thee.

¹⁴et dit: Certainement je te bénirai et je multiplierai ta postérité.

¹⁴ויאמר כי ברך אברכך והרבה ארבה אותך׃

¹⁵And thus, having patiently endured, he obtained the promise.

¹⁵Et c'est ainsi qu'Abraham, ayant persévéré, obtint l'effet de la promesse.

¹⁵ויהי בהאריך נפשו השיג את ההבטחה׃

¹⁶For men swear by the greater: and in every dispute of theirs the oath is final for confirmation.

¹⁶Or les hommes jurent par celui qui est plus grand qu'eux, et le serment est une garantie qui met fin à tous leurs différends.

¹⁶בני האדם ישבעו בגדול מהם והשבועה להם קץ כל ערעור לקיום הדבר׃

¹⁷Wherein God, being minded to show more abundantly unto the heirs of the promise the immutability of his counsel, interposed with an oath;

¹⁷C'est pourquoi Dieu, voulant montrer avec plus d'évidence aux héritiers de la promesse l'immutabilité de sa résolution, intervint par un serment,

¹⁷על כן כאשר רצה האלהים להראות ביותר את ירשי ההבטחה כי לא תשתנה עצתו ערב אתה בשבועה׃

¹⁸that by two immutable things, in which it is impossible for God to lie, we may have a strong encouragement, who have fled for refuge to lay hold of the hope set before us:

¹⁸afin que, par deux choses immuables, dans lesquelles il est impossible que Dieu mente, nous trouvions un puissant encouragement, nous dont le seul refuge a été de saisir l'espérance qui nous était proposée.

¹⁸למען על פי שני דברים בלתי משתנים אשר חלילה לאלהים לשקר בם יהיה לנו אשר נסנו עליו זרוז גדול לאחז בתקוה הנתונה לפנינו׃

¹⁹which we have as an anchor of the soul, [a hope] both sure and stedfast and entering into that which is within the veil;

¹⁹Cette espérance, nous la possédons comme une ancre de l'âme, sûre et solide; elle pénètre au delà du voile,

¹⁹אשר היא לנפשנו לעוגין נכון וחזק ומגיע אל מבית לפרכת׃

²⁰whither as a forerunner Jesus entered for us, having become a high priest for ever after the order of Melchizedek.

²⁰là où Jésus est entré pour nous comme précurseur, ayant été fait souverain sacrificateur pour toujours, selon l'ordre de Melchisédek.

²⁰אשר בא שמה ישוע העבר לפנינו ויהי כהן גדול לעולם על דברתי מלכי צדק׃
