¹Thus said Jehovah, Go, and buy a potter's earthen bottle, and [take] of the elders of the people, and of the elders of the priests;

¹Ainsi a parlé l'Eternel: Va, achète d'un potier un vase de terre, et prends avec toi des anciens du peuple et des anciens des sacrificateurs.

¹כה אמר יהוה הלוך וקנית בקבק יוצר חרש ומזקני העם ומזקני הכהנים׃

²and go forth unto the valley of the son of Hinnom, which is by the entry of the gate Harsith, and proclaim there the words that I shall tell thee;

²Rends-toi dans la vallée de Ben-Hinnom, qui est à l'entrée de la porte de la poterie; et là, tu publieras les paroles que je te dirai.

²ויצאת אל גיא בן הנם אשר פתח שער החרסות וקראת שם את הדברים אשר אדבר אליך׃

³and say, Hear ye the word of Jehovah, O kings of Judah, and inhabitants of Jerusalem: thus saith Jehovah of hosts, the God of Israel, Behold, I will bring evil upon this place, which whosoever heareth, his ears shall tingle.

³Tu diras: Ecoutez la parole de l'Eternel, rois de Juda, et vous, habitants de Jérusalem! Ainsi parle l'Eternel des armées, le Dieu d'Israël: Voici, je vais faire venir sur ce lieu un malheur Qui étourdira les oreilles de quiconque en entendra parler.

³ואמרת שמעו דבר יהוה מלכי יהודה וישבי ירושלם כה אמר יהוה צבאות אלהי ישראל הנני מביא רעה על המקום הזה אשר כל שמעה תצלנה אזניו׃

⁴Because they have forsaken me, and have estranged this place, and have burned incense in it unto other gods, that they knew not, they and their fathers and the kings of Judah; and have filled this place with the blood of innocents,

⁴Ils m'ont abandonné, ils ont profané ce lieu, Ils y ont offert de l'encens à d'autres dieux, Que ne connaissaient ni eux, ni leurs pères, ni les rois de Juda, Et ils ont rempli ce lieu de sang innocent;

⁴יען אשר עזבני וינכרו את המקום הזה ויקטרו בו לאלהים אחרים אשר לא ידעום המה ואבותיהם ומלכי יהודה ומלאו את המקום הזה דם נקים׃

⁵and have built the high places of Baal, to burn their sons in the fire for burnt-offerings unto Baal; which I commanded not, nor spake it, neither came it into my mind:

⁵Ils ont bâti des hauts lieux à Baal, Pour brûler leurs enfants au feu en holocaustes à Baal: Ce que je n'avais ni ordonné ni prescrit, Ce qui ne m'était point venu à la pensée.

⁵ובנו את במות הבעל לשרף את בניהם באש עלות לבעל אשר לא צויתי ולא דברתי ולא עלתה על לבי׃

⁶therefore, behold, the days come, saith Jehovah, that this place shall no more be called Topheth, nor The valley of the son of Hinnom, but The valley of Slaughter.

⁶C'est pourquoi voici, les jours viennent, dit l'Eternel, Où ce lieu ne sera plus appelé Topheth et vallée de Ben-Hinnom, Mais où on l'appellera vallée du carnage.

⁶לכן הנה ימים באים נאם יהוה ולא יקרא למקום הזה עוד התפת וגיא בן הנם כי אם גיא ההרגה׃

⁷And I will make void the counsel of Judah and Jerusalem in this place; and I will cause them to fall by the sword before their enemies, and by the hand of them that seek their life: and their dead bodies will I give to be food for the birds of the heavens, and for the beasts of the earth.

⁷J'anéantirai dans ce lieu le conseil de Juda et de Jérusalem; Je les ferai tomber par l'épée devant leurs ennemis Et par la main de ceux qui en veulent à leur vie; Je donnerai leurs cadavres en pâture Aux oiseaux du ciel et aux bêtes de la terre.

⁷ובקתי את עצת יהודה וירושלם במקום הזה והפלתים בחרב לפני איביהם וביד מבקשי נפשם ונתתי את נבלתם למאכל לעוף השמים ולבהמת הארץ׃

⁸And I will make this city an astonishment, and a hissing; every one that passeth thereby shall be astonished and hiss because of all the plagues thereof.

⁸Je ferai de cette ville un objet de désolation et de moquerie; Tous ceux qui passeront près d'elle Seront dans l'étonnement et siffleront sur toutes ses plaies.

⁸ושמתי את העיר הזאת לשמה ולשרקה כל עבר עליה ישם וישרק על כל מכתה׃

⁹And I will cause them to eat the flesh of their sons and the flesh of their daughters; and they shall eat every one the flesh of his friend, in the siege and in the distress, wherewith their enemies, and they that seek their life, shall distress them.

⁹Je leur ferai manger la chair de leurs fils et la chair de leurs filles, Et les uns mangeront la chair des autres, Au milieu de l'angoisse et de la détresse Où les réduiront leurs ennemis Et ceux qui en veulent à leur vie.

⁹והאכלתים את בשר בניהם ואת בשר בנתיהם ואיש בשר רעהו יאכלו במצור ובמצוק אשר יציקו להם איביהם ומבקשי נפשם׃

¹⁰Then shalt thou break the bottle in the sight of the men that go with thee,

¹⁰Tu briseras ensuite le vase, sous les yeux des hommes qui seront allés avec toi.

¹⁰ושברת הבקבק לעיני האנשים ההלכים אותך׃

¹¹and shalt say unto them, Thus saith Jehovah of hosts: Even so will I break this people and this city, as one breaketh a potter's vessel, that cannot be made whole again; and they shall bury in Topheth, till there be no place to bury.

¹¹Et tu leur diras: Ainsi parle l'Eternel des armées: C'est ainsi que je briserai ce peuple et cette ville, Comme on brise un vase de potier, Sans qu'il puisse être rétabli. Et l'on enterrera les morts à Topheth par défaut de place pour enterrer.

¹¹ואמרת אליהם כה אמר יהוה צבאות ככה אשבר את העם הזה ואת העיר הזאת כאשר ישבר את כלי היוצר אשר לא יוכל להרפה עוד ובתפת יקברו מאין מקום לקבור׃

¹²Thus will I do unto this place, saith Jehovah, and to the inhabitants thereof, even making this city as Topheth:

¹²C'est ainsi que je ferai à ce lieu, dit l'Eternel, et à ses habitants, Et je rendrai cette ville semblable à Topheth.

¹²כן אעשה למקום הזה נאם יהוה וליושביו ולתת את העיר הזאת כתפת׃

¹³and the houses of Jerusalem, and the houses of the kings of Judah, which are defiled, shall be as the place of Topheth, even all the houses upon whose roofs they have burned incense unto all the host of heaven, and have poured out drink-offerings unto other gods.

¹³Les maisons de Jérusalem et les maisons des rois de Juda Seront impures comme le lieu de Topheth, Toutes les maisons sur les toits desquelles on offrait de l'encens A toute l'armée des cieux, Et on faisait des libations à d'autres dieux.

¹³והיו בתי ירושלם ובתי מלכי יהודה כמקום התפת הטמאים לכל הבתים אשר קטרו על גגתיהם לכל צבא השמים והסך נסכים לאלהים אחרים׃

¹⁴Then came Jeremiah from Topheth, whither Jehovah had sent him to prophesy; and he stood in the court of Jehovah's house, and said to all the people:

¹⁴Jérémie revint de Topheth, où l'Eternel l'avait envoyé prophétiser. Puis il se tint dans le parvis de la maison de l'Eternel, et il dit à tout le peuple:

¹⁴ויבא ירמיהו מהתפת אשר שלחו יהוה שם להנבא ויעמד בחצר בית יהוה ויאמר אל כל העם׃

¹⁵Thus saith Jehovah of hosts, the God of Israel, Behold, I will bring upon this city and upon all its towns all the evil that I have pronounced against it; because they have made their neck stiff, that they may not hear my words.

¹⁵Ainsi parle l'Eternel des armées, le Dieu d'Israël: Voici, je vais faire venir sur cette ville et sur toutes les villes qui dépendent d'elle tous les malheurs que je lui ai prédits, parce qu'ils ont raidi leur cou, pour ne point écouter mes paroles.

¹⁵כה אמר יהוה צבאות אלהי ישראל הנני מבי אל העיר הזאת ועל כל עריה את כל הרעה אשר דברתי עליה כי הקשו את ערפם לבלתי שמוע את דברי׃
