¹Now Pashhur, the son of Immer the priest, who was chief officer in the house of Jehovah, heard Jeremiah prophesying these things.

¹Paschhur, fils d'Immer, sacrificateur et inspecteur en chef dans la maison de l'Eternel, entendit Jérémie qui prophétisait ces choses.

¹וישמע פשחור בן אמר הכהן והוא פקיד נגיד בבית יהוה את ירמיהו נבא את הדברים האלה׃

²Then Pashhur smote Jeremiah the prophet, and put him in the stocks that were in the upper gate of Benjamin, which was in the house of Jehovah.

²Et Paschhur frappa Jérémie, le prophète, et le mit dans la prison qui était à la porte supérieure de Benjamin, dans la maison de l'Eternel.

²ויכה פשחור את ירמיהו הנביא ויתן אתו על המהפכת אשר בשער בנימן העליון אשר בבית יהוה׃

³And it came to pass on the morrow, that Pashhur brought forth Jeremiah out of the stocks. Then said Jeremiah unto him, Jehovah hath not called thy name Pashhur, but Magor-missabib.

³Mais le lendemain, Paschhur fit sortir Jérémie de prison. Et Jérémie lui dit: Ce n'est pas le nom de Paschhur que l'Eternel te donne, c'est celui de Magor-Missabib.

³ויהי ממחרת ויצא פשחור את ירמיהו מן המהפכת ויאמר אליו ירמיהו לא פשחור קרא יהוה שמך כי אם מגור מסביב׃

⁴For thus saith Jehovah, Behold, I will make thee a terror to thyself, and to all thy friends; and they shall fall by the sword of their enemies, and thine eyes shall behold it; and I will give all Judah into the hand of the king of Babylon, and he shall carry them captive to Babylon, and shall slay them with the sword.

⁴Car ainsi parle l'Eternel: Voici, je te livrerai à la terreur, toi et tous tes amis; ils tomberont par l'épée de leurs ennemis, et tes yeux le verront. Je livrerai aussi tout Juda entre les mains du roi de Babylone, qui les emmènera captifs à Babylone et les frappera de l'épée.

⁴כי כה אמר יהוה הנני נתנך למגור לך ולכל אהביך ונפלו בחרב איביהם ועיניך ראות ואת כל יהודה אתן ביד מלך בבל והגלם בבלה והכם בחרב׃

⁵Moreover I will give all the riches of this city, and all the gains thereof, and all the precious things thereof, yea, all the treasures of the kings of Judah will I give into the hand of their enemies; and they shall make them a prey, and take them, and carry them to Babylon.

⁵Je livrerai toutes les richesses de cette ville, tout le produit de son travail, tout ce qu'elle a de précieux, je livrerai tous les trésors des rois de Juda entre les mains de leurs ennemis, qui les pilleront, les enlèveront et les transporteront à Babylone.

⁵ונתתי את כל חסן העיר הזאת ואת כל יגיעה ואת כל יקרה ואת כל אוצרות מלכי יהודה אתן ביד איביהם ובזזום ולקחום והביאום בבלה׃

⁶And thou, Pashhur, and all that dwell in thy house shall go into captivity; and thou shalt come to Babylon, and there thou shalt die, and there shalt thou be buried, thou, and all thy friends, to whom thou hast prophesied falsely.

⁶Et toi, Paschhur, et tous ceux qui demeurent dans ta maison, vous irez en captivité; tu iras à Babylone, et là tu mourras, et là tu seras enterré, toi et tous tes amis auxquels tu as prophétisé le mensonge.

⁶ואתה פשחור וכל ישבי ביתך תלכו בשבי ובבל תבוא ושם תמות ושם תקבר אתה וכל אהביך אשר נבאת להם בשקר׃

⁷O Jehovah, thou hast persuaded me, and I was persuaded; thou art stronger than I, and hast prevailed: I am become a laughing-stock all the day, every one mocketh me.

⁷Tu m'as persuadé, Eternel, et je me suis laissé persuader; Tu m'as saisi, tu m'as vaincu. Et je suis chaque jour un objet de raillerie, Tout le monde se moque de moi.

⁷פתיתני יהוה ואפת חזקתני ותוכל הייתי לשחוק כל היום כלה לעג לי׃

⁸For as often as I speak, I cry out; I cry, Violence and destruction! because the word of Jehovah is made a reproach unto me, and a derision, all the day.

⁸Car toutes les fois que je parle, il faut que je crie, Que je crie à la violence et à l'oppression! Et la parole de l'Eternel est pour moi Un sujet d'opprobre et de risée chaque jour.

⁸כי מדי אדבר אזעק חמס ושד אקרא כי היה דבר יהוה לי לחרפה ולקלס כל היום׃

⁹And if I say, I will not make mention of him, nor speak any more in his name, then there is in my heart as it were a burning fire shut up in my bones, and I am weary with forbearing, and I cannot [contain].

⁹Si je dis: Je ne ferai plus mention de lui, Je ne parlerai plus en son nom, Il y a dans mon coeur comme un feu dévorant Qui est renfermé dans mes os. Je m'efforce de le contenir, et je ne le puis.

⁹ואמרתי לא אזכרנו ולא אדבר עוד בשמו והיה בלבי כאש בערת עצר בעצמתי ונלאיתי כלכל ולא אוכל׃

¹⁰For I have heard the defaming of many, terror on every side. Denounce, and we will denounce him, [say] all my familiar friends, they that watch for my fall; peradventure he will be persuaded, and we shall prevail against him, and we shall take our revenge on him.

¹⁰Car j'apprends les mauvais propos de plusieurs, L'épouvante qui règne à l'entour: Accusez-le, et nous l'accuserons! Tous ceux qui étaient en paix avec moi Observent si je chancelle: Peut-être se laissera-t-il surprendre, Et nous serons maîtres de lui, Nous tirerons vengeance de lui!

¹⁰כי שמעתי דבת רבים מגור מסביב הגידו ונגידנו כל אנוש שלומי שמרי צלעי אולי יפתה ונוכלה לו ונקחה נקמתנו ממנו׃

¹¹But Jehovah is with me as a mighty one [and] a terrible: therefore my persecutors shall stumble, and they shall not prevail; they shall be utterly put to shame, because they have not dealt wisely, even with an everlasting dishonor which shall never be forgotten.

¹¹Mais l'Eternel est avec moi comme un héros puissant; C'est pourquoi mes persécuteurs chancellent et n'auront pas le dessus; Ils seront remplis de confusion pour n'avoir pas réussi: Ce sera une honte éternelle qui ne s'oubliera pas.

¹¹ויהוה אותי כגבור עריץ על כן רדפי יכשלו ולא יכלו בשו מאד כי לא השכילו כלמת עולם לא תשכח׃

¹²But, O Jehovah of hosts, that triest the righteous, that seest the heart and the mind, let me see thy vengeance on them; for unto thee have I revealed my cause.

¹²L'Eternel des armées éprouve le juste, Il pénètre les reins et les coeurs. Je verrai ta vengeance s'exercer contre eux, Car c'est à toi que je confie ma cause.

¹²ויהוה צבאות בחן צדיק ראה כליות ולב אראה נקמתך מהם כי אליך גליתי את ריבי׃

¹³Sing unto Jehovah, praise ye Jehovah; for he hath delivered the soul of the needy from the hand of evil-doers.

¹³Chantez à l'Eternel, louez l'Eternel! Car il délivre l'âme du malheureux de la main des méchants.

¹³שירו ליהוה הללו את יהוה כי הציל את נפש אביון מיד מרעים׃

¹⁴Cursed be the day wherein I was born: let not the day wherein my mother bare me be blessed.

¹⁴Maudit soit le jour où je suis né! Que le jour où ma mère m'a enfanté Ne soit pas béni!

¹⁴ארור היום אשר ילדתי בו יום אשר ילדתני אמי אל יהי ברוך׃

¹⁵Cursed be the man who brought tidings to my father, saying, A man-child is born unto thee; making him very glad.

¹⁵Maudit soit l'homme qui porta cette nouvelle à mon père: Il t'est né un enfant mâle, Et qui le combla de joie!

¹⁵ארור האיש אשר בשר את אבי לאמר ילד לך בן זכר שמח שמחהו׃

¹⁶And let that man be as the cities which Jehovah overthrew, and repented not: and let him hear a cry in the morning, and shouting at noontime;

¹⁶Que cet homme soit comme les villes Que l'Eternel a détruites sans miséricorde! Qu'il entende des gémissements le matin, Et des cris de guerre à midi!

¹⁶והיה האיש ההוא כערים אשר הפך יהוה ולא נחם ושמע זעקה בבקר ותרועה בעת צהרים׃

¹⁷because he slew me not from the womb; and so my mother would have been my grave, and her womb always great.

¹⁷Que ne m'a-t-on fait mourir dans le sein de ma mère! Que ne m'a-t-elle servi de tombeau! Que n'est-elle restée éternellement enceinte!

¹⁷אשר לא מותתני מרחם ותהי לי אמי קברי ורחמה הרת עולם׃

¹⁸Wherefore came I forth out of the womb to see labor and sorrow, that my days should be consumed with shame?

¹⁸Pourquoi suis-je sorti du sein maternel Pour voir la souffrance et la douleur, Et pour consumer mes jours dans la honte?

¹⁸למה זה מרחם יצאתי לראות עמל ויגון ויכלו בבשת ימי׃
