¹The word which came unto Jeremiah from Jehovah, when king Zedekiah sent unto him Pashhur the son of Malchijah, and Zephaniah the son of Maaseiah, the priest, saying,

¹La parole qui fut adressée à Jérémie de la part de l'Eternel, lorsque le roi Sédécias lui envoya Paschhur, fils de Malkija, et Sophonie, fils de Maaséja, le sacrificateur, pour lui dire:

¹הדבר אשר היה אל ירמיהו מאת יהוה בשלח אליו המלך צדקיהו את פשחור בן מלכיה ואת צפניה בן מעשיה הכהן לאמר׃

²Inquire, I pray thee, of Jehovah for us; for Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon maketh war against us: peradventure Jehovah will deal with us according to all his wondrous works, that he may go up from us.

²Consulte pour nous l'Eternel; car Nebucadnetsar, roi de Babylone, nous fait la guerre; peut-être l'Eternel fera-t-il en notre faveur quelqu'un de ses miracles, afin qu'il s'éloigne de nous.

²דרש נא בעדנו את יהוה כי נבוכדראצר מלך בבל נלחם עלינו אולי יעשה יהוה אותנו ככל נפלאתיו ויעלה מעלינו׃

³Then said Jeremiah unto them, Thus shall ye say to Zedekiah:

³Jérémie leur répondit: Vous direz à Sédécias:

³ויאמר ירמיהו אליהם כה תאמרן אל צדקיהו׃

⁴Thus saith Jehovah, the God of Israel, Behold, I will turn back the weapons of war that are in your hands, wherewith ye fight against the king of Babylon, and against the Chaldeans that besiege you, without the walls; and I will gather them into the midst of this city.

⁴Ainsi parle l'Eternel, le Dieu d'Israël: Voici, je vais détourner les armes de guerre qui sont dans vos mains, et avec lesquelles vous combattez en dehors des murailles le roi de Babylone et les Chaldéens qui vous assiègent, et je les rassemblerai au milieu de cette ville.

⁴כה אמר יהוה אלהי ישראל הנני מסב את כלי המלחמה אשר בידכם אשר אתם נלחמים בם את מלך בבל ואת הכשדים הצרים עליכם מחוץ לחומה ואספתי אותם אל תוך העיר הזאת׃

⁵And I myself will fight against you with an outstretched hand and with a strong arm, even in anger, and in wrath, and in great indignation.

⁵Puis je combattrai contre vous, la main étendue et le bras fort, avec colère, avec fureur, avec une grande irritation.

⁵ונלחמתי אני אתכם ביד נטויה ובזרוע חזקה ובאף ובחמה ובקצף גדול׃

⁶And I will smite the inhabitants of this city, both man and beast: they shall die of a great pestilence.

⁶Je frapperai les habitants de cette ville, les hommes et les bêtes; ils mourront d'une peste affreuse.

⁶והכיתי את יושבי העיר הזאת ואת האדם ואת הבהמה בדבר גדול ימתו׃

⁷And afterward, saith Jehovah, I will deliver Zedekiah king of Judah, and his servants, and the people, even such as are left in this city from the pestilence, from the sword, and from the famine, into the hand of Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon, and into the hand of their enemies, and into the hand of those that seek their life: and he shall smite them with the edge of the sword; he shall not spare them, neither have pity, nor have mercy.

⁷Après cela, dit l'Eternel, je livrerai Sédécias, roi de Juda, ses serviteurs, le peuple, et ceux qui dans cette ville échapperont à la peste, à l'épée et à la famine, je les livrerai entre les mains de Nebucadnetsar, roi de Babylone, entre les mains de leurs ennemis, entre les mains de ceux qui en veulent à leur vie; et Nebucadnetsar les frappera du tranchant de l'épée, il ne les épargnera pas, il n'aura point de pitié, point de compassion.

⁷ואחרי כן נאם יהוה אתן את צדקיהו מלך יהודה ואת עבדיו ואת העם ואת הנשארים בעיר הזאת מן הדבר מן החרב ומן הרעב ביד נבוכדראצר מלך בבל וביד איביהם וביד מבקשי נפשם והכם לפי חרב לא יחוס עליהם ולא יחמל ולא ירחם׃

⁸And unto this people thou shalt say, Thus saith Jehovah: Behold, I set before you the way of life and the way of death.

⁸Tu diras à ce peuple: Ainsi parle l'Eternel: Voici, je mets devant vous le chemin de la vie et le chemin de la mort.

⁸ואל העם הזה תאמר כה אמר יהוה הנני נתן לפניכם את דרך החיים ואת דרך המות׃

⁹He that abideth in this city shall die by the sword, and by the famine, and by the pestilence; but he that goeth out, and passeth over to the Chaldeans that besiege you, he shall live, and his life shall be unto him for a prey.

⁹Celui qui restera dans cette ville mourra par l'épée, par la famine ou par la peste; mais celui qui sortira pour se rendre aux Chaldéens qui vous assiègent aura la vie sauve, et sa vie sera son butin.

⁹הישב בעיר הזאת ימות בחרב וברעב ובדבר והיוצא ונפל על הכשדים הצרים עליכם יחיה והיתה לו נפשו לשלל׃

¹⁰For I have set my face upon this city for evil, and not for good, saith Jehovah: it shall be given into the hand of the king of Babylon, and he shall burn it with fire.

¹⁰Car je dirige mes regards contre cette ville pour faire du mal et non du bien, dit l'Eternel; elle sera livrée entre les mains du roi de Babylone, qui la brûlera par le feu.

¹⁰כי שמתי פני בעיר הזאת לרעה ולא לטובה נאם יהוה ביד מלך בבל תנתן ושרפה באש׃

¹¹And touching the house of the king of Judah, hear ye the word of Jehovah:

¹¹Et tu diras à la maison du roi de Juda: Ecoutez la parole de l'Eternel!

¹¹ולבית מלך יהודה שמעו דבר יהוה׃

¹²O house of David, thus saith Jehovah, Execute justice in the morning, and deliver him that is robbed out of the hand of the oppressor, lest my wrath go forth like fire, and burn so that none can quench it, because of the evil of your doings.

¹²Maison de David! Ainsi parle l'Eternel: Rendez la justice dès le matin, Et délivrez l'opprimé des mains de l'oppresseur, De peur que ma colère n'éclate comme un feu, Et ne s'enflamme, sans qu'on puisse l'éteindre, A cause de la méchanceté de vos actions.

¹²בית דוד כה אמר יהוה דינו לבקר משפט והצילו גזול מיד עושק פן תצא כאש חמתי ובערה ואין מכבה מפני רע מעלליהם׃

¹³Behold, I am against thee, O inhabitant of the valley, [and] of the rock of the plain, saith Jehovah; you that say, Who shall come down against us? or who shall enter into our habitations?

¹³Voici, j'en veux à toi, Ville assise dans la vallée, sur le rocher de la plaine, Dit l'Eternel, A vous qui dites: Qui descendra contre nous? Qui entrera dans nos demeures?

¹³הנני אליך ישבת העמק צור המישר נאם יהוה האמרים מי יחת עלינו ומי יבוא במעונותינו׃

¹⁴And I will punish you according to the fruit of your doings, saith Jehovah; and I will kindle a fire in her forest, and it shall devour all that is round about her.

¹⁴Je vous châtierai selon le fruit de vos oeuvres, dit l'Eternel; Je mettrai le feu à votre forêt, Et il en dévorera tous les alentours.

¹⁴ופקדתי עליכם כפרי מעלליכם נאם יהוה והצתי אש ביערה ואכלה כל סביביה׃
