¹In the beginning of the reign of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah, king of Judah, came this word from Jehovah, saying,

¹Au commencement du règne de Jojakim, fils de Josias, roi de Juda, cette parole fut prononcée de la part de l'Eternel, en ces mots:

¹בראשית ממלכות יהויקים בן יאשיהו מלך יהודה היה הדבר הזה מאת יהוה לאמר׃

²Thus saith Jehovah: Stand in the court of Jehovah's house, and speak unto all the cities of Judah, which come to worship in Jehovah's house, all the words that I command thee to speak unto them; diminish not a word.

²Ainsi parle l'Eternel: Tiens-toi dans le parvis de la maison de l'Eternel, et dis à ceux qui de toutes les villes de Juda viennent se prosterner dans la maison de l'Eternel toutes les paroles que je t'ordonne de leur dire; n'en retranche pas un mot.

²כה אמר יהוה עמד בחצר בית יהוה ודברת על כל ערי יהודה הבאים להשתחות בית יהוה את כל הדברים אשר צויתיך לדבר אליהם אל תגרע דבר׃

³It may be they will hearken, and turn every man from his evil way; that I may repent me of the evil which I purpose to do unto them because of the evil of their doings.

³Peut-être écouteront-ils, et reviendront-ils chacun de leur mauvaise voie; alors je me repentirai du mal que j'avais pensé leur faire à cause de la méchanceté de leurs actions.

³אולי ישמעו וישבו איש מדרכו הרעה ונחמתי אל הרעה אשר אנכי חשב לעשות להם מפני רע מעלליהם׃

⁴And thou shalt say unto them, Thus saith Jehovah: If ye will not hearken to me, to walk in my law, which I have set before you,

⁴Tu leur diras: Ainsi parle l'Eternel: Si vous ne m'écoutez pas quand je vous ordonne de suivre ma loi que j'ai mise devant vous,

⁴ואמרת אליהם כה אמר יהוה אם לא תשמעו אלי ללכת בתורתי אשר נתתי לפניכם׃

⁵to hearken to the words of my servants the prophets, whom I send unto you, even rising up early and sending them, but ye have not hearkened;

⁵d'écouter les paroles de mes serviteurs, les prophètes, que je vous envoie, que je vous ai envoyés dès le matin, et que vous n'avez pas écoutés,

⁵לשמע על דברי עבדי הנבאים אשר אנכי שלח אליכם והשכם ושלח ולא שמעתם׃

⁶then will I make this house like Shiloh, and will make this city a curse to all the nations of the earth.

⁶alors je traiterai cette maison comme Silo, et je ferai de cette ville un objet de malédiction pour toutes les nations de la terre.

⁶ונתתי את הבית הזה כשלה ואת העיר הזאתה אתן לקללה לכל גויי הארץ׃

⁷And the priests and the prophets and all the people heard Jeremiah speaking these words in the house of Jehovah.

⁷Les sacrificateurs, les prophètes, et tout le peuple, entendirent Jérémie prononcer ces paroles dans la maison de l'Eternel.

⁷וישמעו הכהנים והנבאים וכל העם את ירמיהו מדבר את הדברים האלה בבית יהוה׃

⁸And it came to pass, when Jeremiah had made an end of speaking all that Jehovah had commanded him to speak unto all the people, that the priests and the prophets and all the people laid hold on him, saying, Thou shalt surely die.

⁸Et comme Jérémie achevait de dire tout ce que l'Eternel lui avait ordonné de dire à tout le peuple, les sacrificateurs, les prophètes, et tout le peuple, se saisirent de lui, en disant: Tu mourras!

⁸ויהי ככלות ירמיהו לדבר את כל אשר צוה יהוה לדבר אל כל העם ויתפשו אתו הכהנים והנבאים וכל העם לאמר מות תמות׃

⁹Why hast thou prophesied in the name of Jehovah, saying, This house shall be like Shiloh, and this city shall be desolate, without inhabitant? And all the people were gathered unto Jeremiah in the house of Jehovah.

⁹Pourquoi prophétises-tu au nom de l'Eternel, en disant: Cette maison sera comme Silo, et cette ville sera dévastée, privée d'habitants? Tout le peuple s'attroupa autour de Jérémie dans la maison de l'Eternel.

⁹מדוע נבית בשם יהוה לאמר כשלו יהיה הבית הזה והעיר הזאת תחרב מאין יושב ויקהל כל העם אל ירמיהו בבית יהוה׃

¹⁰And when the princes of Judah heard these things, they came up from the king's house unto the house of Jehovah; and they sat in the entry of the new gate of Jehovah's [house].

¹⁰Lorsque les chefs de Juda eurent appris ces choses, ils montèrent de la maison du roi à la maison de l'Eternel, et s'assirent à l'entrée de la porte neuve de la maison de l'Eternel.

¹⁰וישמעו שרי יהודה את הדברים האלה ויעלו מבית המלך בית יהוה וישבו בפתח שער יהוה החדש׃

¹¹Then spake the priests and the prophets unto the princes and to all the people, saying, This man is worthy of death; for he hath prophesied against this city, as ye have heard with your ears.

¹¹Alors les sacrificateurs et les prophètes parlèrent ainsi aux chefs et à tout le peuple: Cet homme mérite la mort; car il a prophétisé contre cette ville, comme vous l'avez entendu de vos oreilles.

¹¹ויאמרו הכהנים והנבאים אל השרים ואל כל העם לאמר משפט מות לאיש הזה כי נבא אל העיר הזאת כאשר שמעתם באזניכם׃

¹²Then spake Jeremiah unto all the princes and to all the people, saying, Jehovah sent me to prophesy against this house and against this city all the words that ye have heard.

¹²Jérémie dit à tous les chefs et à tout le peuple: L'Eternel m'a envoyé pour prophétiser contre cette maison et contre cette ville, toutes les choses que vous avez entendues.

¹²ויאמר ירמיהו אל כל השרים ואל כל העם לאמר יהוה שלחני להנבא אל הבית הזה ואל העיר הזאת את כל הדברים אשר שמעתם׃

¹³Now therefore amend your ways and your doings, and obey the voice of Jehovah your God; and Jehovah will repent him of the evil that he hath pronounced against you.

¹³Maintenant réformez vos voies et vos oeuvres, écoutez la voix de l'Eternel, votre Dieu, et l'Eternel se repentira du mal qu'il a prononcé contre vous.

¹³ועתה היטיבו דרכיכם ומעלליכם ושמעו בקול יהוה אלהיכם וינחם יהוה אל הרעה אשר דבר עליכם׃

¹⁴But as for me, behold, I am in your hand: do with me as is good and right in your eyes.

¹⁴Pour moi, me voici entre vos mains; traitez-moi comme il vous semblera bon et juste.

¹⁴ואני הנני בידכם עשו לי כטוב וכישר בעיניכם׃

¹⁵Only know ye for certain that, if ye put me to death, ye will bring innocent blood upon yourselves, and upon this city, and upon the inhabitants thereof; for of a truth Jehovah hath sent me unto you to speak all these words in your ears.

¹⁵Seulement sachez que, si vous me faites mourir, vous vous chargez du sang innocent, vous, cette ville et ses habitants; car l'Eternel m'a véritablement envoyé vers vous pour prononcer à vos oreilles toutes ces paroles.

¹⁵אך ידע תדעו כי אם ממתים אתם אתי כי דם נקי אתם נתנים עליכם ואל העיר הזאת ואל ישביה כי באמת שלחני יהוה עליכם לדבר באזניכם את כל הדברים האלה׃

¹⁶Then said the princes and all the people unto the priests and to the prophets: This man is not worthy of death; for he hath spoken to us in the name of Jehovah our God.

¹⁶Les chefs et tout le peuple dirent aux sacrificateurs et aux prophètes: Cet homme ne mérite point la mort; car c'est au nom de l'Eternel, notre Dieu, qu'il nous a parlé.

¹⁶ויאמרו השרים וכל העם אל הכהנים ואל הנביאים אין לאיש הזה משפט מות כי בשם יהוה אלהינו דבר אלינו׃

¹⁷Then rose up certain of the elders of the land, and spake to all the assembly of the people, saying,

¹⁷Et quelques-uns des anciens du pays se levèrent, et dirent à toute l'assemblée du peuple:

¹⁷ויקמו אנשים מזקני הארץ ויאמרו אל כל קהל העם לאמר׃

¹⁸Micah the Morashtite prophesied in the days of Hezekiah king of Judah; and he spake to all the people of Judah, saying, Thus saith Jehovah of hosts: Zion shall be plowed as a field, and Jerusalem shall become heaps, and the mountain of the house as the high places of a forest.

¹⁸Michée, de Moréscheth, prophétisait du temps d'Ezéchias, roi de Juda, et il disait à tout le peuple de Juda: Ainsi parle l'Eternel des armées: Sion sera labourée comme un champ, Jérusalem deviendra un monceau de pierres, Et la montagne de la maison une haute forêt.

¹⁸מיכיה המורשתי היה נבא בימי חזקיהו מלך יהודה ויאמר אל כל עם יהודה לאמר כה אמר יהוה צבאות ציון שדה תחרש וירושלים עיים תהיה והר הבית לבמות יער׃

¹⁹Did Hezekiah king of Judah and all Judah put him to death? did he not fear Jehovah, and entreat the favor of Jehovah, and Jehovah repented him of the evil which he had pronounced against them? Thus should we commit great evil against our own souls.

¹⁹Ezéchias, roi de Juda, et tout Juda l'ont-ils fait mourir? Ezéchias ne craignit-il pas l'Eternel? N'implora-t-il pas l'Eternel? Alors l'Eternel se repentit du mal qu'il avait prononcé contre eux. Et nous, nous chargerions notre âme d'un si grand crime!

¹⁹ההמת המתהו חזקיהו מלך יהודה וכל יהודה הלא ירא את יהוה ויחל את פני יהוה וינחם יהוה אל הרעה אשר דבר עליהם ואנחנו עשים רעה גדולה על נפשותינו׃

²⁰And there was also a man that prophesied in the name of Jehovah, Uriah the son of Shemaiah of Kiriath-jearim; and he prophesied against this city and against this land according to all the words of Jeremiah:

²⁰Il y eut aussi un homme qui prophétisait au nom de l'Eternel, Urie, fils de Schemaeja, de Kirjath-Jearim. Il prophétisa contre cette ville et contre ce pays entièrement les mêmes choses que Jérémie.

²⁰וגם איש היה מתנבא בשם יהוה אוריהו בן שמעיהו מקרית היערים וינבא על העיר הזאת ועל הארץ הזאת ככל דברי ירמיהו׃

²¹and when Jehoiakim the king, with all his mighty-men, and all the princes, heard his words, the king sought to put him to death; but when Uriah heard it, he was afraid, and fled, and went into Egypt:

²¹Le roi Jojakim, tous ses vaillants hommes, et tous ses chefs, entendirent ses paroles, et le roi chercha à le faire mourir. Urie, qui en fut informé, eut peur, prit la fuite, et alla en Egypte.

²¹וישמע המלך יהויקים וכל גבוריו וכל השרים את דבריו ויבקש המלך המיתו וישמע אוריהו וירא ויברח ויבא מצרים׃

²²and Jehoiakim the king sent men into Egypt, [namely], Elnathan the son of Achbor, and certain men with him, into Egypt;

²²Le roi Jojakim envoya des gens en Egypte, Elnathan, fils d'Acbor, et des gens avec lui en Egypte.

²²וישלח המלך יהויקים אנשים מצרים את אלנתן בן עכבור ואנשים אתו אל מצרים׃

²³and they fetched forth Uriah out of Egypt, and brought him unto Jehoiakim the king, who slew him with the sword, and cast his dead body into the graves of the common people.

²³Ils firent sortir d'Egypte Urie et l'amenèrent au roi Jojakim, qui le fit mourir par l'épée et jeta son cadavre sur les sépulcres des enfants du peuple.

²³ויוציאו את אוריהו ממצרים ויבאהו אל המלך יהויקים ויכהו בחרב וישלך את נבלתו אל קברי בני העם׃

²⁴But the hand of Ahikam the son of Shaphan was with Jeremiah, that they should not give him into the hand of the people to put him to death.

²⁴Cependant la main d'Achikam, fils de Schaphan, fut avec Jérémie, et empêcha qu'il ne fût livré au peuple pour être mis à mort.

²⁴אך יד אחיקם בן שפן היתה את ירמיהו לבלתי תת אתו ביד העם להמיתו׃
