¹The word that came to Jeremiah concerning all the Jews that dwelt in the land of Egypt, that dwelt at Migdol, and at Tahpanhes, and at Memphis, and in the country of Pathros, saying,

¹La parole fut adressée à Jérémie sur tous les Juifs demeurant au pays d'Egypte, demeurant à Migdol, à Tachpanès, à Noph et au pays de Pathros, en ces mots:

¹הדבר אשר היה אל ירמיהו אל כל היהודים הישבים בארץ מצרים הישבים במגדל ובתחפנחס ובנף ובארץ פתרוס לאמר׃

²Thus saith Jehovah of hosts, the God of Israel: Ye have seen all the evil that I have brought upon Jerusalem, and upon all the cities of Judah; and, behold, this day they are a desolation, and no man dwelleth therein,

²Ainsi parle l'Eternel des armées, le Dieu d'Israël: Vous avez vu tous les malheurs que j'ai fait venir sur Jérusalem et sur toutes les villes de Juda; voici, elles ne sont plus aujourd'hui que des ruines, et il n'y a plus d'habitants,

²כה אמר יהוה צבאות אלהי ישראל אתם ראיתם את כל הרעה אשר הבאתי על ירושלם ועל כל ערי יהודה והנם חרבה היום הזה ואין בהם יושב׃

³because of their wickedness which they have committed to provoke me to anger, in that they went to burn incense, [and] to serve other gods, that they knew not, neither they, nor ye, nor your fathers.

³cause de la méchanceté avec laquelle ils ont agi pour m'irriter, en allant encenser et servir d'autres dieux, inconnus à eux, à vous et à vos pères.

³מפני רעתם אשר עשו להכעסני ללכת לקטר לעבד לאלהים אחרים אשר לא ידעום המה אתם ואבתיכם׃

⁴Howbeit I sent unto you all my servants the prophets, rising up early and sending them, saying, Oh, do not this abominable thing that I hate.

⁴Je vous ai envoyé tous mes serviteurs, les prophètes, je les ai envoyés dès le matin, pour vous dire: Ne faites pas ces abominations, que je hais.

⁴ואשלח אליכם את כל עבדי הנביאים השכים ושלח לאמר אל נא תעשו את דבר התעבה הזאת אשר שנאתי׃

⁵But they hearkened not, nor inclined their ear to turn from their wickedness, to burn no incense unto other gods.

⁵Mais ils n'ont pas écouté, ils n'ont pas prêté l'oreille, ils ne sont pas revenus de leur méchanceté, et ils n'ont pas cessé d'offrir de l'encens à d'autres dieux.

⁵ולא שמעו ולא הטו את אזנם לשוב מרעתם לבלתי קטר לאלהים אחרים׃

⁶Wherefore my wrath and mine anger was poured forth, and was kindled in the cities of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem; and they are wasted and desolate, as it is this day.

⁶Ma colère et ma fureur se sont répandues, et ont embrasé les villes de Juda et les rues de Jérusalem, qui ne sont plus que des ruines et un désert, comme on le voit aujourd'hui.

⁶ותתך חמתי ואפי ותבער בערי יהודה ובחצות ירושלם ותהיינה לחרבה לשממה כיום הזה׃

⁷Therefore now thus saith Jehovah, the God of hosts, the God of Israel: Wherefore commit ye [this] great evil against your own souls, to cut off from you man and woman, infant and suckling, out of the midst of Judah, to leave you none remaining;

⁷Maintenant ainsi parle l'Eternel, le Dieu des armées, le Dieu d'Israël: Pourquoi vous faites-vous à vous-mêmes un si grand mal, que de faire exterminer du milieu de Juda hommes, femmes, enfants et nourrissons, en sorte qu'il n'y ait plus de vous aucun reste?

⁷ועתה כה אמר יהוה אלהי צבאות אלהי ישראל למה אתם עשים רעה גדולה אל נפשתכם להכרית לכם איש ואשה עולל ויונק מתוך יהודה לבלתי הותיר לכם שארית׃

⁸in that ye provoke me unto anger with the works of your hands, burning incense unto other gods in the land of Egypt, whither ye are gone to sojourn; that ye may be cut off, and that ye may be a curse and a reproach among all the nations of the earth?

⁸Pourquoi m'irritez-vous par les oeuvres de vos mains, en offrant de l'encens aux autres dieux du pays d'Egypte, où vous êtes venus pour y demeurer, afin de vous faire exterminer et d'être un objet de malédiction et d'opprobre parmi toutes les nations de la terre?

⁸להכעסני במעשי ידיכם לקטר לאלהים אחרים בארץ מצרים אשר אתם באים לגור שם למען הכרית לכם ולמען היותכם לקללה ולחרפה בכל גויי הארץ׃

⁹Have ye forgotten the wickedness of your fathers, and the wickedness of the kings of Judah, and the wickedness of their wives, and your own wickedness, and the wickedness of your wives which they committed in the land of Judah, and in the streets of Jerusalem?

⁹Avez-vous oublié les crimes de vos pères, les crimes des rois de Juda, les crimes de leurs femmes, vos crimes et les crimes de vos femmes, commis dans le pays de Juda et dans les rues de Jérusalem?

⁹השכחתם את רעות אבותיכם ואת רעות מלכי יהודה ואת רעות נשיו ואת רעתכם ואת רעת נשיכם אשר עשו בארץ יהודה ובחצות ירושלם׃

¹⁰They are not humbled even unto this day, neither have they feared, nor walked in my law, nor in my statutes, that I set before you and before your fathers.

¹⁰Ils ne se sont point humiliés jusqu'à ce jour, ils n'ont point eu de crainte, ils n'ont point suivi ma loi et mes commandements, que j'ai mis devant vous et devant vos pères.

¹⁰לא דכאו עד היום הזה ולא יראו ולא הלכו בתורתי ובחקתי אשר נתתי לפניכם ולפני אבותיכם׃

¹¹Therefore thus saith Jehovah of hosts, the God of Israel: Behold, I will set my face against you for evil, even to cut off all Judah.

¹¹C'est pourquoi ainsi parle l'Eternel des armées, le Dieu d'Israël: Voici, je tourne ma face contre vous pour faire du mal, et pour exterminer tout Juda.

¹¹לכן כה אמר יהוה צבאות אלהי ישראל הנני שם פני בכם לרעה ולהכרית את כל יהודה׃

¹²And I will take the remnant of Judah, that have set their faces to go into the land of Egypt to sojourn there, and they shall all be consumed; in the land of Egypt shall they fall; they shall be consumed by the sword and by the famine; they shall die, from the least even unto the greatest, by the sword and by the famine; and they shall be an execration, [and] an astonishment, and a curse, and a reproach.

¹²Je prendrai les restes de Juda qui ont tourné le visage pour aller au pays d'Egypte, afin d'y demeurer; ils seront tous consumés, ils tomberont dans le pays d'Egypte; ils seront consumés par l'épée, par la famine, depuis le plus petit jusqu'au plus grand; ils périront par l'épée et par la famine; et ils seront un sujet d'exécration, d'épouvante, de malédiction et d'opprobre.

¹²ולקחתי את שארית יהודה אשר שמו פניהם לבוא ארץ מצרים לגור שם ותמו כל בארץ מצרים יפלו בחרב ברעב יתמו מקטן ועד גדול בחרב וברעב ימתו והיו לאלה לשמה ולקללה ולחרפה׃

¹³For I will punish them that dwell in the land of Egypt, as I have punished Jerusalem, by the sword, by the famine, and by the pestilence;

¹³Je châtierai ceux qui demeurent au pays d'Egypte, comme j'ai châtié Jérusalem, par l'épée, par la famine et par la peste.

¹³ופקדתי על היושבים בארץ מצרים כאשר פקדתי על ירושלם בחרב ברעב ובדבר׃

¹⁴so that none of the remnant of Judah, that are gone into the land of Egypt to sojourn there, shall escape or be left, to return into the land of Judah, to which they have a desire to return to dwell there: for none shall return save such as shall escape.

¹⁴Nul n'échappera, ne fuira, parmi les restes de Juda qui sont venus pour demeurer au pays d'Egypte, avec l'intention de retourner dans le pays de Juda, où ils ont le désir de retourner s'établir; car ils n'y retourneront pas, sinon quelques réchappés.

¹⁴ולא יהיה פליט ושריד לשארית יהודה הבאים לגור שם בארץ מצרים ולשוב ארץ יהודה אשר המה מנשאים את נפשם לשוב לשבת שם כי לא ישובו כי אם פלטים׃

¹⁵Then all the men who knew that their wives burned incense unto other gods, and all the women that stood by, a great assembly, even all the people that dwelt in the land of Egypt, in Pathros, answered Jeremiah, saying,

¹⁵Tous les hommes qui savaient que leurs femmes offraient de l'encens à d'autres dieux, toutes les femmes qui se trouvaient là en grand nombre, et tout le peuple qui demeurait au pays d'Egypte, à Pathros, répondirent ainsi à Jérémie:

¹⁵ויענו את ירמיהו כל האנשים הידעים כי מקטרות נשיהם לאלהים אחרים וכל הנשים העמדות קהל גדול וכל העם הישבים בארץ מצרים בפתרוס לאמר׃

¹⁶As for the word that thou hast spoken unto us in the name of Jehovah, we will not hearken unto thee.

¹⁶Nous ne t'obéirons en rien de ce que tu nous as dit au nom de l'Eternel.

¹⁶הדבר אשר דברת אלינו בשם יהוה איננו שמעים אליך׃

¹⁷But we will certainly perform every word that is gone forth out of our mouth, to burn incense unto the queen of heaven, and to pour out drink-offerings unto her, as we have done, we and our fathers, our kings and our princes, in the cities of Judah, and in the streets of Jerusalem; for then had we plenty of victuals, and were well, and saw no evil.

¹⁷Mais nous voulons agir comme l'a déclaré notre bouche, offrir de l'encens à la reine du ciel, et lui faire des libations, comme nous l'avons fait, nous et nos pères, nos rois et nos chefs, dans les villes de Juda et dans les rues de Jérusalem. Alors nous avions du pain pour nous rassasier, nous étions heureux, et nous n'éprouvions point de malheur.

¹⁷כי עשה נעשה את כל הדבר אשר יצא מפינו לקטר למלכת השמים והסיך לה נסכים כאשר עשינו אנחנו ואבתינו מלכינו ושרינו בערי יהודה ובחצות ירושלם ונשבע לחם ונהיה טובים ורעה לא ראינו׃

¹⁸But since we left off burning incense to the queen of heaven, and pouring out drink-offerings unto her, we have wanted all things, and have been consumed by the sword and by the famine.

¹⁸Et depuis que nous avons cessé d'offrir de l'encens à la reine du ciel et de lui faire des libations, nous avons manqué de tout, et nous avons été consumés par l'épée et par la famine...

¹⁸ומן אז חדלנו לקטר למלכת השמים והסך לה נסכים חסרנו כל ובחרב וברעב תמנו׃

¹⁹And when we burned incense to the queen of heaven, and poured out drink-offerings unto her, did we make her cakes to worship her, and pour out drink-offerings unto her, without our husbands?

¹⁹D'ailleurs, lorsque nous offrons de l'encens à la reine du ciel et que nous lui faisons des libations, est-ce sans la volonté de nos maris que nous lui préparons des gâteaux pour l'honorer et que nous lui faisons des libations?

¹⁹וכי אנחנו מקטרים למלכת השמים ולהסך לה נסכים המבלעדי אנשינו עשינו לה כונים להעצבה והסך לה נסכים׃

²⁰Then Jeremiah said unto all the people, to the men, and to the women, even to all the people that had given him that answer, saying,

²⁰Jérémie dit alors à tout le peuple, aux hommes, aux femmes, à tous ceux qui lui avaient fait cette réponse:

²⁰ויאמר ירמיהו אל כל העם על הגברים ועל הנשים ועל כל העם הענים אתו דבר לאמר׃

²¹The incense that ye burned in the cities of Judah, and in the streets of Jerusalem, ye and your fathers, your kings and your princes, and the people of the land, did not Jehovah remember them, and came it not into his mind?

²¹L'Eternel ne s'est-il pas rappelé, n'a-t-il pas eu à la pensée l'encens que vous avez brûlé dans les villes de Juda et dans les rues de Jérusalem, vous et vos pères, vos rois et vos chefs, et le peuple du pays?

²¹הלוא את הקטר אשר קטרתם בערי יהודה ובחצות ירושלם אתם ואבותיכם מלכיכם ושריכם ועם הארץ אתם זכר יהוה ותעלה על לבו׃

²²so that Jehovah could not longer bear, because of the evil of your doings, and because of the abominations which ye have committed; therefore is your land become a desolation, and an astonishment, and a curse, without inhabitant, as it is this day.

²²L'Eternel n'a pas pu le supporter davantage, à cause de la méchanceté de vos actions, à cause des abominations que vous avez commises; et votre pays est devenu une ruine, un désert, un objet de malédiction, comme on le voit aujourd'hui.

²²ולא יוכל יהוה עוד לשאת מפני רע מעלליכם מפני התועבת אשר עשיתם ותהי ארצכם לחרבה ולשמה ולקללה מאין יושב כהיום הזה׃

²³Because ye have burned incense, and because ye have sinned against Jehovah, and have not obeyed the voice of Jehovah, nor walked in his law, nor in his statutes, nor in his testimonies; therefore this evil is happened unto you, as it is this day.

²³C'est parce que vous avez brûlé de l'encens et péché contre l'Eternel, parce que vous n'avez pas écouté la voix de l'Eternel, et que vous n'avez pas observé sa loi, ses ordonnances, et ses préceptes, c'est pour cela que ces malheurs vous sont arrivés, comme on le voit aujourd'hui.

²³מפני אשר קטרתם ואשר חטאתם ליהוה ולא שמעתם בקול יהוה ובתרתו ובחקתיו ובעדותיו לא הלכתם על כן קראת אתכם הרעה הזאת כיום הזה׃

²⁴Moreover Jeremiah said unto all the people, and to all the women, Hear the word of Jehovah, all Judah that are in the land of Egypt:

²⁴Jérémie dit encore à tout le peuple et à toutes les femmes: Ecoutez la parole de l'Eternel, vous tous de Juda, qui êtes au pays d'Egypte!

²⁴ויאמר ירמיהו אל כל העם ואל כל הנשים שמעו דבר יהוה כל יהודה אשר בארץ מצרים׃

²⁵Thus saith Jehovah of hosts, the God of Israel, saying, Ye and your wives have both spoken with your mouths, and with your hands have fulfilled it, saying, We will surely perform our vows that we have vowed, to burn incense to the queen of heaven, and to pour out drink-offerings unto her: establish then your vows, and perform your vows.

²⁵Ainsi parle l'Eternel des armées, le Dieu d'Israël: Vous et vos femmes, vous avez déclaré de vos bouches et exécuté de vos mains ce que vous dites: Nous voulons accomplir les voeux que nous avons faits, offrir de l'encens à la reine du ciel, et lui faire des libations. Maintenant que vous avez accompli vos voeux, exécuté vos promesses,

²⁵כה אמר יהוה צבאות אלהי ישראל לאמר אתם ונשיכם ותדברנה בפיכם ובידיכם מלאתם לאמר עשה נעשה את נדרינו אשר נדרנו לקטר למלכת השמים ולהסך לה נסכים הקים תקימנה את נדריכם ועשה תעשינה את נדריכם׃

²⁶Therefore hear ye the word of Jehovah, all Judah that dwell in the land of Egypt: Behold, I have sworn by my great name, saith Jehovah, that my name shall no more be named in the mouth of any man of Judah in all the land of Egypt, saying, As the Lord Jehovah liveth.

²⁶coutez la parole de l'Eternel, vous tous de Juda, qui demeurez au pays d'Egypte! Voici, je le jure par mon grand nom, dit l'Eternel, mon nom ne sera plus invoqué par la bouche d'aucun homme de Juda, et dans tout le pays d'Egypte aucun ne dira: Le Seigneur, l'Eternel est vivant!

²⁶לכן שמעו דבר יהוה כל יהודה הישבים בארץ מצרים הנני נשבעתי בשמי הגדול אמר יהוה אם יהיה עוד שמי נקרא בפי כל איש יהודה אמר חי אדני יהוה בכל ארץ מצרים׃

²⁷Behold, I watch over them for evil, and not for good; and all the men of Judah that are in the land of Egypt shall be consumed by the sword and by the famine, until there be an end of them.

²⁷Voici, je veillerai sur eux pour faire du mal et non du bien; et tous les hommes de Juda qui sont dans le pays d'Egypte seront consumés par l'épée et par la famine, jusqu'à ce qu'ils soient anéantis.

²⁷הנני שקד עליהם לרעה ולא לטובה ותמו כל איש יהודה אשר בארץ מצרים בחרב וברעב עד כלותם׃

²⁸And they that escape the sword shall return out of the land of Egypt into the land of Judah, few in number; and all the remnant of Judah, that are gone into the land of Egypt to sojourn there, shall know whose word shall stand, mine, or theirs.

²⁸Ceux, en petit nombre, qui échapperont à l'épée, retourneront du pays d'Egypte au pays de Juda. Mais tout le reste de Juda, tous ceux qui sont venus au pays d'Egypte pour y demeurer, sauront si ce sera ma parole ou la leur qui s'accomplira.

²⁸ופליטי חרב ישבון מן ארץ מצרים ארץ יהודה מתי מספר וידעו כל שארית יהודה הבאים לארץ מצרים לגור שם דבר מי יקום ממני ומהם׃

²⁹And this shall be the sign unto you, saith Jehovah, that I will punish you in this place, that ye may know that my words shall surely stand against you for evil:

²⁹Et voici, dit l'Eternel, un signe auquel vous connaîtrez que je vous châtierai dans ce lieu, afin que vous sachiez que mes paroles s'accompliront sur vous pour votre malheur.

²⁹וזאת לכם האות נאם יהוה כי פקד אני עליכם במקום הזה למען תדעו כי קום יקומו דברי עליכם לרעה׃

³⁰Thus saith Jehovah, Behold, I will give Pharaoh Hophra king of Egypt into the hand of his enemies, and into the hand of them that seek his life; as I gave Zedekiah king of Judah into the hand of Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon, who was his enemy, and sought his life.

³⁰Ainsi parle l'Eternel: Voici, je livrerai Pharaon Hophra, roi d'Egypte, entre les mains de ses ennemis, entre les mains de ceux qui en veulent à sa vie, comme j'ai livré Sédécias, roi de Juda, entre les mains de Nebucadnetsar, roi de Babylone, son ennemi, qui en voulait à sa vie.

³⁰כה אמר יהוה הנני נתן את פרעה חפרע מלך מצרים ביד איביו וביד מבקשי נפשו כאשר נתתי את צדקיהו מלך יהודה ביד נבוכדראצר מלך בבל איבו ומבקש נפשו׃
