¹Yea, at this my heart trembleth, And is moved out of its place.

¹Mon coeur est tout tremblant, Il bondit hors de sa place.

¹אף לזאת יחרד לבי ויתר ממקומו׃

²Hear, oh, hear the noise of his voice, And the sound that goeth out of his mouth.

²Ecoutez, écoutez le frémissement de sa voix, Le grondement qui sort de sa bouche!

²שמעו שמוע ברגז קלו והגה מפיו יצא׃

³He sendeth it forth under the whole heaven, And his lightening unto the ends of the earth.

³Il le fait rouler dans toute l'étendue des cieux, Et son éclair brille jusqu'aux extrémités de la terre.

³תחת כל השמים ישרהו ואורו על כנפות הארץ׃

⁴After it a voice roareth; He thundereth with the voice of his majesty; And he restraineth not [the lightnings] when his voice is heard.

⁴Puis éclate un rugissement: il tonne de sa voix majestueuse; Il ne retient plus l'éclair, dès que sa voix retentit.

⁴אחריו ישאג קול ירעם בקול גאונו ולא יעקבם כי ישמע קולו׃

⁵God thundereth marvellously with his voice; Great things doeth he, which we cannot comprehend.

⁵Dieu tonne avec sa voix d'une manière merveilleuse; Il fait de grandes choses que nous ne comprenons pas.

⁵ירעם אל בקולו נפלאות עשה גדלות ולא נדע׃

⁶For he saith to the snow, Fall thou on the earth; Likewise to the shower of rain, And to the showers of his mighty rain.

⁶Il dit à la neige: Tombe sur la terre! Il le dit à la pluie, même aux plus fortes pluies.

⁶כי לשלג יאמר הוא ארץ וגשם מטר וגשם מטרות עזו׃

⁷He sealeth up the hand of every man, That all men whom he hath made may know [it].

⁷Il met un sceau sur la main de tous les hommes, Afin que tous se reconnaissent comme ses créatures.

⁷ביד כל אדם יחתום לדעת כל אנשי מעשהו׃

⁸Then the beasts go into coverts, And remain in their dens.

⁸L'animal sauvage se retire dans une caverne, Et se couche dans sa tanière.

⁸ותבא חיה במו ארב ובמעונתיה תשכן׃

⁹Out of the chamber [of the south] cometh the storm, And cold out of the north.

⁹L'ouragan vient du midi, Et le froid, des vents du nord.

⁹מן החדר תבוא סופה וממזרים קרה׃

¹⁰By the breath of God ice is given; And the breadth of the waters is straitened.

¹⁰Par son souffle Dieu produit la glace, Il réduit l'espace où se répandaient les eaux.

¹⁰מנשמת אל יתן קרח ורחב מים במוצק׃

¹¹Yea, he ladeth the thick cloud with moisture; He spreadeth abroad the cloud of his lightning:

¹¹Il charge de vapeurs les nuages, Il les disperse étincelants;

¹¹אף ברי יטריח עב יפיץ ענן אורו׃

¹²And it is turned round about by his guidance, That they may do whatsoever he commandeth them Upon the face of the habitable world,

¹²Leurs évolutions varient selon ses desseins, Pour l'accomplissement de tout ce qu'il leur ordonne, Sur la face de la terre habitée;

¹²והוא מסבות מתהפך בתחבולתו לפעלם כל אשר יצום על פני תבל ארצה׃

¹³Whether it be for correction, or for his land, Or for lovingkindness, that he cause it to come.

¹³C'est comme une verge dont il frappe sa terre, Ou comme un signe de son amour, qu'il les fait apparaître.

¹³אם לשבט אם לארצו אם לחסד ימצאהו׃

¹⁴Hearken unto this, O Job: Stand still, and consider the wondrous works of God.

¹⁴Job, sois attentif à ces choses! Considère encore les merveilles de Dieu!

¹⁴האזינה זאת איוב עמד והתבונן נפלאות אל׃

¹⁵Dost thou know how God layeth [his charge] upon them, And causeth the lightning of his cloud to shine?

¹⁵Sais-tu comment Dieu les dirige, Et fait briller son nuage étincelant?

¹⁵התדע בשום אלוה עליהם והופיע אור עננו׃

¹⁶Dost thou know the balancings of the clouds, The wondrous works of him who is perfect in knowledge?

¹⁶Comprends-tu le balancement des nuées, Les merveilles de celui dont la science est parfaite?

¹⁶התדע על מפלשי עב מפלאות תמים דעים׃

¹⁷How thy garments are warm, When the earth is still by reason of the south [wind]?

¹⁷Sais-tu pourquoi tes vêtements sont chauds Quand la terre se repose par le vent du midi?

¹⁷אשר בגדיך חמים בהשקט ארץ מדרום׃

¹⁸Canst thou with him spread out the sky, Which is strong as a molten mirror?

¹⁸Peux-tu comme lui étendre les cieux, Aussi solides qu'un miroir de fonte?

¹⁸תרקיע עמו לשחקים חזקים כראי מוצק׃

¹⁹Teach us what we shall say unto him; [For] we cannot set [our speech] in order by reason of darkness.

¹⁹Fais-nous connaître ce que nous devons lui dire; Nous sommes trop ignorants pour nous adresser à lui.

¹⁹הודיענו מה נאמר לו לא נערך מפני חשך׃

²⁰Shall it be told him that I would speak? Or should a man wish that he were swallowed up?

²⁰Lui annoncera-t-on que je parlerai? Mais quel est l'homme qui désire sa perte?

²⁰היספר לו כי אדבר אם אמר איש כי יבלע׃

²¹And now men see not the light which is bright in the skies; But the wind passeth, and cleareth them.

²¹On ne peut fixer le soleil qui resplendit dans les cieux, Lorsqu'un vent passe et en ramène la pureté;

²¹ועתה לא ראו אור בהיר הוא בשחקים ורוח עברה ותטהרם׃

²²Out of the north cometh golden splendor: God hath upon him terrible majesty.

²²Le septentrion le rend éclatant comme l'or. Oh! que la majesté de Dieu est redoutable!

²²מצפון זהב יאתה על אלוה נורא הוד׃

²³[Touching] the Almighty, we cannot find him out He is excellent in power; And in justice and plenteous righteousness he will not afflict.

²³Nous ne saurions parvenir jusqu'au Tout-Puissant, Grand par la force, Par la justice, par le droit souverain: Il ne répond pas!

²³שדי לא מצאנהו שגיא כח ומשפט ורב צדקה לא יענה׃

²⁴Men do therefore fear him: He regardeth not any that are wise of heart.

²⁴C'est pourquoi les hommes doivent le craindre; Il ne porte les regards sur aucun sage.

²⁴לכן יראוהו אנשים לא יראה כל חכמי לב׃
