¹Moreover Jehovah answered Job, and said,

¹L'Eternel, s'adressant à Job, dit:

¹ויען יהוה את איוב ויאמר׃

²Shall he that cavilleth contend with the Almighty? He that argueth with God, let him answer it.

²Celui qui dispute contre le Tout-Puissant est-il convaincu? Celui qui conteste avec Dieu a-t-il une réplique à faire?

²הרב עם שדי יסור מוכיח אלוה יעננה׃

³Then Job answered Jehovah, and said,

³Job répondit à l'Eternel et dit:

³ויען איוב את יהוה ויאמר׃

⁴Behold, I am of small account; What shall I answer thee? I lay my hand upon my mouth.

⁴Voici, je suis trop peu de chose; que te répliquerais-je? Je mets la main sur ma bouche.

⁴הן קלתי מה אשיבך ידי שמתי למו פי׃

⁵Once have I spoken, and I will not answer; Yea, twice, but I will proceed no further.

⁵J'ai parlé une fois, je ne répondrai plus; Deux fois, je n'ajouterai rien.

⁵אחת דברתי ולא אענה ושתים ולא אוסיף׃

⁶Then Jehovah answered Job out of the whirlwind, and said,

⁶L'Eternel répondit à Job du milieu de la tempête et dit:

⁶ויען יהוה את איוב מן סערה ויאמר׃

⁷Gird up thy loins now like a man: I will demand of thee, and declare thou unto me.

⁷Ceins tes reins comme un vaillant homme; Je t'interrogerai, et tu m'instruiras.

⁷אזר נא כגבר חלציך אשאלך והודיעני׃

⁸Wilt thou even annul my judgment? Wilt thou condemn me, that thou mayest be justified?

⁸Anéantiras-tu jusqu'à ma justice? Me condamneras-tu pour te donner droit?

⁸האף תפר משפטי תרשיעני למען תצדק׃

⁹Or hast thou an arm like God? And canst thou thunder with a voice like him?

⁹As-tu un bras comme celui de Dieu, Une voix tonnante comme la sienne?

⁹ואם זרוע כאל לך ובקול כמהו תרעם׃

¹⁰Deck thyself now with excellency and dignity; And array thyself with honor and majesty.

¹⁰Orne-toi de magnificence et de grandeur, Revêts-toi de splendeur et de gloire!

¹⁰עדה נא גאון וגבה והוד והדר תלבש׃

¹¹Pour forth the overflowings of thine anger; And look upon every one that is proud, and abase him.

¹¹Répands les flots de ta colère, Et d'un regard abaisse les hautains!

¹¹הפץ עברות אפך וראה כל גאה והשפילהו׃

¹²Look on every one that is proud, [and] bring him low; And tread down the wicked where they stand.

¹²D'un regard humilie les hautains, Ecrase sur place les méchants,

¹²ראה כל גאה הכניעהו והדך רשעים תחתם׃

¹³Hide them in the dust together; Bind their faces in the hidden [place].

¹³Cache-les tous ensemble dans la poussière, Enferme leur front dans les ténèbres!

¹³טמנם בעפר יחד פניהם חבש בטמון׃

¹⁴Then will I also confess of thee That thine own right hand can save thee.

¹⁴Alors je rends hommage A la puissance de ta droite.

¹⁴וגם אני אודך כי תושע לך ימינך׃

¹⁵Behold now, behemoth, which I made as well as thee; He eateth grass as an ox.

¹⁵Voici l'hippopotame, à qui j'ai donné la vie comme à toi! Il mange de l'herbe comme le boeuf.

¹⁵הנה נא בהמות אשר עשיתי עמך חציר כבקר יאכל׃

¹⁶Lo now, his strength is in his loins, And his force is in the muscles of his belly.

¹⁶Le voici! Sa force est dans ses reins, Et sa vigueur dans les muscles de son ventre;

¹⁶הנה נא כחו במתניו ואנו בשרירי בטנו׃

¹⁷He moveth his tail like a cedar: The sinews of his thighs are knit together.

¹⁷Il plie sa queue aussi ferme qu'un cèdre; Les nerfs de ses cuisses sont entrelacés;

¹⁷יחפץ זנבו כמו ארז גידי פחדו ישרגו׃

¹⁸His bones are [as] tubes of brass; His limbs are like bars of iron.

¹⁸Ses os sont des tubes d'airain, Ses membres sont comme des barres de fer.

¹⁸עצמיו אפיקי נחושה גרמיו כמטיל ברזל׃

¹⁹He is the chief of the ways of God: He [only] that made him giveth him his sword.

¹⁹Il est la première des oeuvres de Dieu; Celui qui l'a fait l'a pourvu d'un glaive.

¹⁹הוא ראשית דרכי אל העשו יגש חרבו׃

²⁰Surely the mountains bring him forth food, Where all the beasts of the field do play.

²⁰Il trouve sa pâture dans les montagnes, Où se jouent toutes les bêtes des champs.

²⁰כי בול הרים ישאו לו וכל חית השדה ישחקו שם׃

²¹He lieth under the lotus-trees, In the covert of the reed, and the fen.

²¹Il se couche sous les lotus, Au milieu des roseaux et des marécages;

²¹תחת צאלים ישכב בסתר קנה ובצה׃

²²The lotus-trees cover him with their shade; The willows of the brook compass him about.

²²Les lotus le couvrent de leur ombre, Les saules du torrent l'environnent.

²²יסכהו צאלים צללו יסבוהו ערבי נחל׃

²³Behold, if a river overflow, he trembleth not; He is confident, though a Jordan swell even to his mouth.

²³Que le fleuve vienne à déborder, il ne s'enfuit pas: Que le Jourdain se précipite dans sa gueule, il reste calme.

²³הן יעשק נהר לא יחפוז יבטח כי יגיח ירדן אל פיהו׃

²⁴Shall any take him when he is on the watch, Or pierce through his nose with a snare?

²⁴Est-ce à force ouverte qu'on pourra le saisir? Est-ce au moyen de filets qu'on lui percera le nez?

²⁴בעיניו יקחנו במוקשים ינקב אף׃
