¹These things have I spoken unto you, that ye should not be caused to stumble.

¹Je vous ai dit ces choses, afin qu'elles ne soient pas pour vous une occasion de chute.

¹את אלה דברתי אליכם למען לא תכשלו׃

²They shall put you out of the synagogues: yea, the hour cometh, that whosoever killeth you shall think that he offereth service unto God.

²Ils vous excluront des synagogues; et même l'heure vient où quiconque vous fera mourir croira rendre un culte à Dieu.

²הנה ינדו אתכם ואף באה השעה אשר כל הרג אתכם ידמה להקריב עבודה לאלהים׃

³And these things will they do, because they have not known the Father, nor me.

³Et ils agiront ainsi, parce qu'ils n'ont connu ni le Père ni moi.

³וכזאת יעשו לכם יען גם את אבי וגם אתי לא ידעו׃

⁴But these things have I spoken unto you, that when their hour is come, ye may remember them, how that I told you. And these things I said not unto you from the beginning, because I was with you.

⁴Je vous ai dit ces choses, afin que, lorsque l'heure sera venue, vous vous souveniez que je vous les ai dites. Je ne vous en ai pas parlé dès le commencement, parce que j'étais avec vous.

⁴אבל הגדתי לכם את אלה למען אשר בבא השעה תזכרום כי אנכי אמרתי אליכם וכאלה לא אמרתי אליכם מראש כי הייתי עמכם׃

⁵But now I go unto him that sent me; and none of you asketh me, Whither goest thou?

⁵Maintenant je m'en vais vers celui qui m'a envoyé, et aucun de vous ne me demande: Où vas-tu?

⁵ועתה הלך אנכי אל שלחי ולא ישאלני איש מכם אנה תלך׃

⁶But because I have spoken these things unto you, sorrow hath filled your heart.

⁶Mais, parce que je vous ai dit ces choses, la tristesse a rempli votre coeur.

⁶אך על דברי את אלה אליכם מלא לבבכם עצבת׃

⁷Nevertheless I tell you the truth: It is expedient for you that I go away; for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I go, I will send him unto you.

⁷Cependant je vous dis la vérité: il vous est avantageux que je m'en aille, car si je ne m'en vais pas, le consolateur ne viendra pas vers vous; mais, si je m'en vais, je vous l'enverrai.

⁷אולם האמת אגיד לכם כי לכתי אך טוב לכם כי אם לא אלך לא יבא אליכם הפרקליט ואם אלך אשלחהו אליכם׃

⁸And he, when he is come, will convict the world in respect of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment:

⁸Et quand il sera venu, il convaincra le monde en ce qui concerne le péché, la justice, et le jugement:

⁸והיה בבאו יוכיח את העולם על דבר החטא והצדק והמשפט׃

⁹of sin, because they believe not on me;

⁹en ce qui concerne le péché, parce qu'ils ne croient pas en moi;

⁹על החטא כי לא האמינו בי׃

¹⁰of righteousness, because I go to the Father, and ye behold me no more;

¹⁰la justice, parce que je vais au Père, et que vous ne me verrez plus;

¹⁰ועל הצדק כי אלך אל אבי ולא תוסיפו לראות אתי׃

¹¹of judgment, because the prince of this world hath been judged.

¹¹le jugement, parce que le prince de ce monde est jugé.

¹¹ועל המשפט כי נדון שר העולם הזה׃

¹²I have yet many things to say unto you, but ye cannot bear them now.

¹²J'ai encore beaucoup de choses à vous dire, mais vous ne pouvez pas les porter maintenant.

¹²עוד רבות לי להגיד לכם אך לא תוכלון שאת עתה׃

¹³Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he shall guide you into all the truth: for he shall not speak from himself; but what things soever he shall hear, [these] shall he speak: and he shall declare unto you the things that are to come.

¹³Quand le consolateur sera venu, l'Esprit de vérité, il vous conduira dans toute la vérité; car il ne parlera pas de lui-même, mais il dira tout ce qu'il aura entendu, et il vous annoncera les choses à venir.

¹³ורוח האמת בבאו הוא ידריך אתכם אל כל האמת כי לא ידבר מעצמו כי אם אשר ישמע ידבר והאתיות יגיד לכם׃

¹⁴He shall glorify me: for he shall take of mine, and shall declare [it] unto you.

¹⁴Il me glorifiera, parce qu'il prendra de ce qui est à moi, et vous l'annoncera.

¹⁴הוא יפארני כי משלי יקח ויגיד לכם׃

¹⁵All things whatsoever the Father hath are mine: therefore said I, that he taketh of mine, and shall declare [it] unto you.

¹⁵Tout ce que le Père a est à moi; c'est pourquoi j'ai dit qu'il prend de ce qui est à moi, et qu'il vous l'annoncera.

¹⁵כל אשר לאבי לי הוא על כן אמרתי כי משלי יקח ויגיד לכם׃

¹⁶A little while, and ye behold me no more; and again a little while, and ye shall see me.

¹⁶Encore un peu de temps, et vous ne me verrez plus; et puis encore un peu de temps, et vous me verrez, parce que je vais au Père.

¹⁶הן מעט ולא תראוני ועוד מעט ותחזוני כי אני הלך אל אבי׃

¹⁷[Some] of his disciples therefore said one to another, What is this that he saith unto us, A little while, and ye behold me not; and again a little while, and ye shall see me: and, Because I go to the Father?

¹⁷Là-dessus, quelques-uns de ses disciples dirent entre eux: Que signifie ce qu'il nous dit: Encore un peu de temps, et vous ne me verrez plus; et puis encore un peu de temps, et vous me verrez? et: Parce que je vais au Père?

¹⁷ומקצת תלמידיו נדברו איש אל אחיו לאמר מה זה אמר אלינו הן מעט ולא תראוני ועוד מעט ותחזוני ואמרו אני הלך אל אבי׃

¹⁸They said therefore, What is this that he saith, A little while? We know not what he saith.

¹⁸Ils disaient donc: Que signifie ce qu'il dit: Encore un peu de temps? Nous ne savons de quoi il parle.

¹⁸ויאמרו מה זה אשר אמר מעט לא ידענו מה דבר׃

¹⁹Jesus perceived that they were desirous to ask him, and he said unto them, Do ye inquire among yourselves concerning this, that I said, A little while, and ye behold me not, and again a little while, and ye shall see me?

¹⁹Jésus, connut qu'ils voulaient l'interroger, leur dit: Vous vous questionnez les uns les autres sur ce que j'ai dit: Encore un peu de temps, et vous ne me verrez plus; et puis encore un peu de temps, et vous me verrez.

¹⁹וידע ישוע כי עם לבבם לשאל אתו ויאמר אליהם העל זאת אתם דרשים ביניכם כי אמרתי הן מעט ולא תראוני ועוד מעט ותחזוני׃

²⁰Verily, verily, I say unto you, that ye shall weep and lament, but the world shall rejoice: ye shall be sorrowful, but your sorrow shall be turned into joy.

²⁰En vérité, en vérité, je vous le dis, vous pleurerez et vous vous lamenterez, et le monde se réjouira: vous serez dans la tristesse, mais votre tristesse se changera en joie.

²⁰אמן אמן אני אמר לכם כי אתם תבכו ותילילו והעולם ישמח הן אתם תעצבו אכן עצבכם יהפך לששון׃

²¹A woman when she is in travail hath sorrow, because her hour is come: but when she is delivered of the child, she remembereth no more the anguish, for the joy that a man is born into the world.

²¹La femme, lorsqu'elle enfante, éprouve de la tristesse, parce que son heure est venue; mais, lorsqu'elle a donné le jour à l'enfant, elle ne se souvient plus de la souffrance, à cause de la joie qu'elle a de ce qu'un homme est né dans le monde.

²¹האשה בלדתה עצב לה כי באה עתה ואחרי ילדה את הילד לא תזכר עוד את עצבונה משמחתה כי אדם נולד לעולם׃

²²And ye therefore now have sorrow: but I will see you again, and your heart shall rejoice, and your joy no one taketh away from you.

²²Vous donc aussi, vous êtes maintenant dans la tristesse; mais je vous reverrai, et votre coeur se réjouira, et nul ne vous ravira votre joie.

²²וגם אתם כעת תתעצבו אך אשוב אראה אתכם ושש לבכם ואין לקח שמחתכם מכם׃

²³And in that day ye shall ask me no question. Verily, verily, I say unto you, if ye shall ask anything of the Father, he will give it you in my name.

²³En ce jour-là, vous ne m'interrogerez plus sur rien. En vérité, en vérité, je vous le dis, ce que vous demanderez au Père, il vous le donnera en mon nom.

²³וביום ההוא לא תשאלוני דבר אמן אמן אני אמר לכם כי כל אשר תשאלו מאת אבי בשמי יתננו לכם׃

²⁴Hitherto have ye asked nothing in my name: ask, and ye shall receive, that your joy may be made full.

²⁴Jusqu'à présent vous n'avez rien demandé en mon nom. Demandez, et vous recevrez, afin que votre joie soit parfaite.

²⁴עד עתה לא שאלתם דבר בשמי שאלו ותקחו למען תמלא שמחתכם׃

²⁵These things have I spoken unto you in dark sayings: the hour cometh, when I shall no more speak unto you in dark sayings, but shall tell you plainly of the Father.

²⁵Je vous ai dit ces choses en paraboles. L'heure vient où je ne vous parlerai plus en paraboles, mais où je vous parlerai ouvertement du Père.

²⁵את אלה דברתי אליכם במשלים אכן שעה באה ולא אדבר עוד אליכם במשלים כי אם ברור אמלל לכם על אבי׃

²⁶In that day ye shall ask in my name: and I say not unto you, that I will pray the Father for you;

²⁶En ce jour, vous demanderez en mon nom, et je ne vous dis pas que je prierai le Père pour vous;

²⁶ביום ההוא תשאלו בשמי ואינני אמר לכם כי אני אעתיר לאבי בעדכם׃

²⁷for the Father himself loveth you, because ye have loved me, and have believed that I came forth from the Father.

²⁷car le Père lui-même vous aime, parce que vous m'avez aimé, et que vous avez cru que je suis sorti de Dieu.

²⁷כי אבי גם הוא אהב אתכם עקב אשר אהבתוני והאמנתם כי מאת אלהים יצאתי׃

²⁸I came out from the Father, and am come into the world: again, I leave the world, and go unto the Father.

²⁸Je suis sorti du Père, et je suis venu dans le monde; maintenant je quitte le monde, et je vais au Père.

²⁸מאת האב יצאתי ואבא לעולם אשובה אעזב את העולם ואלך אל אבי׃

²⁹His disciples say, Lo, now speakest thou plainly, and speakest no dark saying.

²⁹Ses disciples lui dirent: Voici, maintenant tu parles ouvertement, et tu n'emploies aucune parabole.

²⁹ויאמרו אליו תלמידיו הנה כעת ברור תמלל ולא תמשל משל׃

³⁰Now know we that thou knowest all things, and needest not that any man should ask thee: by this we believe that thou camest forth from God.

³⁰Maintenant nous savons que tu sais toutes choses, et que tu n'as pas besoin que personne t'interroge; c'est pourquoi nous croyons que tu es sorti de Dieu.

³⁰עתה ידענו כי כל ידעת ולא תצטרך כי ישאלך איש בזאת נאמין כי מאת אלהים יצאת׃

³¹Jesus answered them, Do ye now believe?

³¹Jésus leur répondit: Vous croyez maintenant.

³¹ויען אתם ישוע עתה תאמינו׃

³²Behold, the hour cometh, yea, is come, that ye shall be scattered, every man to his own, and shall leave me alone: and [yet] I am not alone, because the Father is with me.

³²Voici, l'heure vient, et elle est déjà venue, où vous serez dispersés chacun de son côté, et où vous me laisserez seul; mais je ne suis pas seul, car le Père est avec moi.

³²הנה שעה באה ועתה זה הגיעה ונפצותם איש איש לביתו ואתי תעזבו לבדי ואינני לבדי כי אבי עמדי׃

³³These things have I spoken unto you, that in me ye may have peace. In the world ye have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.

³³Je vous ai dit ces choses, afin que vous ayez la paix en moi. Vous aurez des tribulations dans le monde; mais prenez courage, j'ai vaincu le monde.

³³את אלה דברתי אליכם למען בי יהיה לכם שלום בעולם יהיה לכם עני אך יאמץ לבבכם אני נצחתי את העולם׃
