1Now there was a man of the Pharisees, named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews:
1Mais il y eut un homme d'entre les pharisiens, nommé Nicodème, un chef des Juifs,
1ויהי איש אחד בתוך הפרושים ושמו נקדימון שר ליהודים׃
2the same came unto him by night, and said to him, Rabbi, we know that thou art a teacher come from God; for no one can do these signs that thou doest, except God be with him.
2qui vint, lui, auprès de Jésus, de nuit, et lui dit: Rabbi, nous savons que tu es un docteur venu de Dieu; car personne ne peut faire ces miracles que tu fais, si Dieu n'est avec lui.
2ויבא אל ישוע לילה ויאמר אליו רבי ידענו כי אתה מורה מאת אלהים באת כי לא יוכל איש לעשות האתות אשר אתה עשה בלתי אם האלהים עמו׃
3Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except one be born anew, he cannot see the kingdom of God.
3Jésus lui répondit: En vérité, en vérité, je te le dis, si un homme ne naît de nouveau, il ne peut voir le royaume de Dieu.
3ויען ישוע ויאמר אליו אמן אמן אני אמר לך אם לא יולד איש מלמעלה לא יוכל לראות מלכות האלהים׃
4Nicodemus saith unto him, How can a man be born when he is old? can he enter a second time into his mother's womb, and be born?
4Nicodème lui dit: Comment un homme peut-il naître quand il est vieux? Peut-il rentrer dans le sein de sa mère et naître?
4ויאמר אליו נקדימון איך יולד אדם והוא זקן הכי שוב ישוב אל בטן אמו ויולד׃
5Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except one be born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God!
5Jésus répondit: En vérité, en vérité, je te le dis, si un homme ne naît d'eau et d'Esprit, il ne peut entrer dans le royaume de Dieu.
5ויען ישוע אמן אמן אני אמר לך אם לא יולד איש מן המים והרוח לא יוכל לבוא אל מלכות האלהים׃
6That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.
6Ce qui est né de la chair est chair, et ce qui est né de l'Esprit est esprit.
6הנולד מן הבשר בשר הוא והנולד מן הרוח רוח הוא׃
7Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born anew.
7Ne t'étonne pas que je t'aie dit: Il faut que vous naissiez de nouveau.
7אל תתמה על אמרי לך כי עליכם להולד מלמעלה׃
8The wind bloweth where it will, and thou hearest the voice thereof, but knowest not whence it cometh, and whither it goeth: so is every one that is born of the Spirit.
8Le vent souffle où il veut, et tu en entends le bruit; mais tu ne sais d'où il vient, ni où il va. Il en est ainsi de tout homme qui est né de l'Esprit.
8הרוח באשר יחפץ שם הוא נשב ואתה תשמע את קולו אך לא תדע מאין בא ואנה הוא הולך כן כל הנולד מן הרוח׃
9Nicodemus answered and said unto him, How can these things be?
9Nicodème lui dit: Comment cela peut-il se faire?
9ויען נקדימון ויאמר אליו איכה תהיה כזאת׃
10Jesus answered and said unto him, Art thou the teacher of Israel, and understandest not these things?
10Jésus lui répondit: Tu es le docteur d'Israël, et tu ne sais pas ces choses!
10ויען ישוע ויאמר אליו רבן של ישראל אתה וזאת לא ידעת׃
11Verily, verily, I say unto thee, We speak that which we know, and bear witness of that which we have seen; and ye receive not our witness.
11En vérité, en vérité, je te le dis, nous disons ce que nous savons, et nous rendons témoignage de ce que nous avons vu; et vous ne recevez pas notre témoignage.
11אמן אמן אני אמר לך כי את אשר ידענו נדבר ואת אשר ראינו נעיד ואתם לא תקבלו עדותנו׃
12If I told you earthly things and ye believe not, how shall ye believe if I tell you heavenly things?
12Si vous ne croyez pas quand je vous ai parlé des choses terrestres, comment croirez-vous quand je vous parlerai des choses célestes?
12אם אמרתי אליכם דברי הארץ ואינכם מאמינים איך תאמינו באמרי אליכם דברי השמים׃
13And no one hath ascended into heaven, but he that descended out of heaven, [even] the Son of man, who is in heaven.
13Personne n'est monté au ciel, si ce n'est celui qui est descendu du ciel, le Fils de l'homme qui est dans le ciel.
13ואיש לא עלה השמימה בלתי אם אשר ירד מן השמים בן האדם אשר הוא בשמים׃
14And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of man be lifted up;
14Et comme Moïse éleva le serpent dans le désert, il faut de même que le Fils de l'homme soit élevé,
14וכאשר הגביה משה את הנחש במדבר כן צריך בן האדם להנשא׃
15that whosoever believeth may in him have eternal life.
15afin que quiconque croit en lui ait la vie éternelle.
15למען לא יאבד כל המאמין בו כי אם יחיה חיי עולמים׃
16For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth on him should not perish, but have eternal life.
16Car Dieu a tant aimé le monde qu'il a donné son Fils unique, afin que quiconque croit en lui ne périsse point, mais qu'il ait la vie éternelle.
16כי ככה אהב האלהים את העולם עד אשר נתן את בנו את יחידו למען לא יאבד כל המאמין בו כי אם יחיה חיי עולמים׃
17For God sent not the Son into the world to judge the world; but that the world should be saved through him.
17Dieu, en effet, n'a pas envoyé son Fils dans le monde pour qu'il juge le monde, mais pour que le monde soit sauvé par lui.
17כי האלהים לא שלח את בנו אל העולם לדין את העולם כי אם למען יושע בו העולם׃
18He that believeth on him is not judged: he that believeth not hath been judged already, because he hath not believed on the name of the only begotten Son of God.
18Celui qui croit en lui n'est point jugé; mais celui qui ne croit pas est déjà jugé, parce qu'il n'a pas cru au nom du Fils unique de Dieu.
18המאמין בו לא ידון ואשר לא יאמין בו כבר נדון כי לא האמין בשם בן האלהים היחיד׃
19And this is the judgment, that the light is come into the world, and men loved the darkness rather than the light; for their works were evil.
19Et ce jugement c'est que, la lumière étant venue dans le monde, les hommes ont préféré les ténèbres à la lumière, parce que leurs oeuvres étaient mauvaises.
19וזה הוא הדין כי האור בא אל העולם ובני האדם אהבו החשך מן האור כי רעים מעשיהם׃
20For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, and cometh not to the light, lest his works should be reproved.
20Car quiconque fait le mal hait la lumière, et ne vient point à la lumière, de peur que ses oeuvres ne soient dévoilées;
20כי כל פעל עולה ישנא את האור ולא יבא לאור פן יוכחו מעשיו׃
21But he that doeth the truth cometh to the light, that his works may be made manifest, that they have been wrought in God.
21mais celui qui agit selon la vérité vient à la lumière, afin que ses oeuvres soient manifestées, parce qu'elles sont faites en Dieu.
21אבל עשה האמת יבא לאור למען יגלו מעשיו כי נעשו באלהים׃
22After these things came Jesus and his disciples into the land of Judea; and there he tarried with them, and baptized.
22Après cela, Jésus, accompagné de ses disciples, se rendit dans la terre de Judée; et là il demeurait avec eux, et il baptisait.
22ויהי אחרי הדברים האלה ויבא ישוע ותלמידיו אל ארץ יהודה ויגר שם עמהם ויטבל׃
23And John also was baptizing in Enon near to Salim, because there was much water there: and they came, and were baptized.
23Jean aussi baptisait à Enon, près de Salim, parce qu'il y avait là beaucoup d'eau; et on y venait pour être baptisé.
23וגם יוחנן היה טבל בעינון קרוב לשלם כי שמה מים לרב ויבאו ויטבלו׃
24For John was not yet cast into prison.
24Car Jean n'avait pas encore été mis en prison.
24כי עוד לא נתן יוחנן אל בית הסהר׃
25There arose therefore a questioning on the part of John's disciples with a Jew about purifying.
25Or, il s'éleva de la part des disciples de Jean une dispute avec un Juif touchant la purification.
25ויהי ריב בין תלמידי יוחנן ובין היהודים על דבר הטהרה׃
26And they came unto John, and said to him, Rabbi, he that was with thee beyond the Jordan, to whom thou hast borne witness, behold, the same baptizeth, and all men come to him.
26Ils vinrent trouver Jean, et lui dirent: Rabbi, celui qui était avec toi au delà du Jourdain, et à qui tu as rendu témoignage, voici, il baptise, et tous vont à lui.
26ויבאו אל יוחנן ויאמרו אליו רבי האיש אשר היה עמך בעבר הירדן ואשר העידת לו הנו טבל וכלם באים אליו׃
27John answered and said, A man can receive nothing, except it have been given him from heaven.
27Jean répondit: Un homme ne peut recevoir que ce qui lui a été donné du ciel.
27ויען יוחנן לא יוכל איש לקחת דבר בלתי אם נתן לו מן השמים׃
28Ye yourselves bear me witness, that I said, I am not the Christ, but, that I am sent before him.
28Vous-mêmes m'êtes témoins que j'ai dit: Je ne suis pas le Christ, mais j'ai été envoyé devant lui.
28ואתם עדי כי אמרתי אנכי אינני המשיח רק שלוח אני לפניו׃
29He that hath the bride is the bridegroom: but the friend of the bridegroom, that standeth and heareth him, rejoiceth greatly because of the bridegroom's voice: this my joy therefore is made full.
29Celui à qui appartient l'épouse, c'est l'époux; mais l'ami de l'époux, qui se tient là et qui l'entend, éprouve une grande joie à cause de la voix de l'époux: aussi cette joie, qui est la mienne, est parfaite.
29אשר לו הכלה הוא החתן ורע החתן העמד ושמע אתו שמוח ישמח לקול החתן הנה שמחתי זאת עתה שלמה׃
30He must increase, but I must decrease.
30Il faut qu'il croisse, et que je diminue.
30הוא יגדל הלוך וגדל ואני אחסר הלוך וחסור׃
31He that cometh from above is above all: he that is of the earth is of the earth, and of the earth he speaketh: he that cometh from heaven is above all.
31Celui qui vient d'en haut est au-dessus de tous; celui qui est de la terre est de la terre, et il parle comme étant de la terre. Celui qui vient du ciel est au-dessus de tous,
31הבא ממעל נעלה על כל ואשר מארץ מארץ הוא ומארץ ידבר הבא משמים נעלה על כל׃
32What he hath seen and heard, of that he beareth witness; and no man receiveth his witness.
32il rend témoignage de ce qu'il a vu et entendu, et personne ne reçoit son témoignage.
32ואת אשר ראה ושמע את זאת יעיד ואין מקבל עדותו׃
33He that hath received his witness hath set his seal to [this], that God is true.
33Celui qui a reçu son témoignage a certifié que Dieu est vrai;
33ואשר קבל עדותו חתום חתם כי האלהים אמת׃
34For he whom God hath sent speaketh the words of God: for he giveth not the Spirit by measure.
34car celui que Dieu a envoyé dit les paroles de Dieu, parce que Dieu ne lui donne pas l'Esprit avec mesure.
34כי את אשר שלחו אלהים דברי אלהים ידבר כי לא במדה נתן אלהים את הרוח׃
35The Father loveth the Son, and hath given all things into his hand.
35Le Père aime le Fils, et il a remis toutes choses entre ses mains.
35האב אהב את בנו ואת כל נתן בידו׃
36He that believeth on the Son hath eternal life; but he that obeyeth not the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God abideth on him.
36Celui qui croit au Fils a la vie éternelle; celui qui ne croit pas au Fils ne verra point la vie, mais la colère de Dieu demeure sur lui.
36כל המאמין בבן יש לו חיי עולמים ואשר לא יאמין בבן לא יראה חיים כי אם חרון אלהים ישכן עליו׃
