¹When therefore the Lord knew that the Pharisees had heard that Jesus was making and baptizing more disciples than John

¹Le Seigneur sut que les pharisiens avaient appris qu'il faisait et baptisait plus de disciples que Jean.

¹ויהי כאשר נודע לאדון כי שמעו הפרושים אשר ישוע העמיד והטביל תלמידים הרבה מיוחנן׃

²(although Jesus himself baptized not, but his disciples),

²Toutefois Jésus ne baptisait pas lui-même, mais c'étaient ses disciples.

²ואולם ישוע הוא לא הטביל כי אם תלמידיו׃

³he left Judea, and departed again into Galilee.

³Alors il quitta la Judée, et retourna en Galilée.

³ויעזב את ארץ יהודה וילך שנית הגלילה׃

⁴And he must needs pass through Samaria.

⁴Comme il fallait qu'il passât par la Samarie,

⁴ויהי לו לעבר בארץ שמרון׃

⁵So he cometh to a city of Samaria, called Sychar, near to the parcel of ground that Jacob gave to his son Joseph:

⁵il arriva dans une ville de Samarie, nommée Sychar, près du champ que Jacob avait donné à Joseph, son fils.

⁵ויבא לעיר מערי שמרון ושמה סוכר היא ממול חלקת השדה אשר נתנה יעקב לבנו ליוסף׃

⁶and Jacob's well was there. Jesus therefore, being wearied with his journey, sat thus by the well. It was about the sixth hour.

⁶Là se trouvait le puits de Jacob. Jésus, fatigué du voyage, était assis au bord du puits. C'était environ la sixième heure.

⁶ושם באר יעקב וישוע היה עיף מן הדרך וישב לו על הבאר והעת כשעה הששית׃

⁷There cometh a woman of Samaria to draw water: Jesus saith unto her, Give me to drink.

⁷Une femme de Samarie vint puiser de l'eau. Jésus lui dit: Donne-moi à boire.

⁷ותבא אשה משמרון לשאב מים ויאמר אליה ישוע תני נא לי לשתות׃

⁸For his disciples were gone away into the city to buy food.

⁸Car ses disciples étaient allés à la ville pour acheter des vivres.

⁸כי תלמידיו הלכו העירה לקנות אכל׃

⁹The Samaritan woman therefore saith unto him, How is it that thou, being a Jew, askest drink of me, who am a Samaritan woman? (For Jews have no dealings with Samaritans.)

⁹La femme samaritaine lui dit: Comment toi, qui es Juif, me demandes-tu à boire, à moi qui suis une femme samaritaine? -Les Juifs, en effet, n'ont pas de relations avec les Samaritains. -

⁹ותאמר אליו האשה השמרונית הן יהודי אתה ואיככה תשאל ממני לשתות ואנכי אשה שמרונית כי לא יתערבו היהודים עם השמרונים׃

¹⁰Jesus answered and said unto unto her, If thou knewest the gift of God, and who it is that saith to thee, Give me to drink; thou wouldest have asked of him, and he would have given thee living water.

¹⁰Jésus lui répondit: Si tu connaissais le don de Dieu et qui est celui qui te dit: Donne-moi à boire! tu lui aurais toi-même demandé à boire, et il t'aurait donné de l'eau vive.

¹⁰ויען ישוע ויאמר אליה לו ידעת את מתת אלהים ומי הוא האמר אליך תני נא לי לשתות כי עתה שאלת ממנו ונתן לך מים חיים׃

¹¹The woman saith unto him, Sir, thou hast nothing to draw with, and the well is deep: whence then hast thou that living water?

¹¹Seigneur, lui dit la femme, tu n'as rien pour puiser, et le puits est profond; d'où aurais-tu donc cette eau vive?

¹¹ותאמר אליו האשה אדני הן אין לך כלי לשאב בו והבאר עמקה ומאין לך אפוא מים חיים׃

¹²Art thou greater than our father Jacob, who gave us the well, and drank thereof himself, and his sons, and his cattle?

¹²Es-tu plus grand que notre père Jacob, qui nous a donné ce puits, et qui en a bu lui-même, ainsi que ses fils et ses troupeaux?

¹²האתה גדול מיעקב אבינו אשר נתן לנו את הבאר הזאת וישת ממנה הוא ובניו ובעירו׃

¹³Jesus answered and said unto her, Every one that drinketh of this water shall thirst again:

¹³Jésus lui répondit: Quiconque boit de cette eau aura encore soif;

¹³ויען ישוע ויאמר אליה כל השתה מן המים האלה ישוב ויצמא׃

¹⁴but whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall become in him a well of water springing up unto eternal life.

¹⁴mais celui qui boira de l'eau que je lui donnerai n'aura jamais soif, et l'eau que je lui donnerai deviendra en lui une source d'eau qui jaillira jusque dans la vie éternelle.

¹⁴ואשר ישתה מן המים אשר אנכי נתן לו לא יצמא לעולם כי המים אשר אתן לו יהיו בקרבו למקור מים נבעים לחיי העולמים׃

¹⁵The woman saith unto him, Sir, give me this water, that I thirst not, neither come all the way hither to draw.

¹⁵La femme lui dit: Seigneur, donne-moi cette eau, afin que je n'aie plus soif, et que je ne vienne plus puiser ici.

¹⁵ותאמר אליו האשה אדני תנה לי המים ההם למען לא אצמא עוד ולא אוסיף לבוא הנה לשאב׃

¹⁶Jesus saith unto her, Go, call thy husband, and come hither.

¹⁶Va, lui dit Jésus, appelle ton mari, et viens ici.

¹⁶ויאמר אליה ישוע לכי וקראי לאישך ושובי הלום׃

¹⁷The woman answered and said unto him, I have no husband. Jesus saith unto her, Thou saidst well, I have no husband:

¹⁷La femme répondit: Je n'ai point de mari. Jésus lui dit: Tu as eu raison de dire: Je n'ai point de mari.

¹⁷ותען האשה ותאמר אין לי איש ויאמר אליה ישוע כן דברת אין לי איש׃

¹⁸for thou hast had five husbands; and he whom thou now hast is not thy husband: this hast thou said truly.

¹⁸Car tu as eu cinq maris, et celui que tu as maintenant n'est pas ton mari. En cela tu as dit vrai.

¹⁸כי בעלים חמשה היו לך ואשר לך עתה איננו בעלך לכן אמת הדבר אשר דברת׃

¹⁹The woman saith unto him, Sir, I perceive that thou art a prophet.

¹⁹Seigneur, lui dit la femme, je vois que tu es prophète.

¹⁹ותאמר אליו האשה אדני ראה אנכי כי נביא אתה׃

²⁰Our fathers worshipped in this mountain; and ye say, that in Jerusalem is the place where men ought to worship.

²⁰Nos pères ont adoré sur cette montagne; et vous dites, vous, que le lieu où il faut adorer est à Jérusalem.

²⁰אבותינו השתחוו בהר הזה ואתם אמרים כי ירושלים היא המקום הנבחר להשתחות שמה׃

²¹Jesus saith unto her, Woman, believe me, the hour cometh, when neither in this mountain, nor in Jerusalem, shall ye worship the Father.

²¹Femme, lui dit Jésus, crois-moi, l'heure vient où ce ne sera ni sur cette montagne ni à Jérusalem que vous adorerez le Père.

²¹ויאמר אליה ישוע אשה האמיני לי כי תבוא שעה אשר לא בהר הזה אף לא בירושלים תשתחוו לאב׃

²²Ye worship that which ye know not: we worship that which we know; for salvation is from the Jews.

²²Vous adorez ce que vous ne connaissez pas; nous, nous adorons ce que nous connaissons, car le salut vient des Juifs.

²²אתם משתחוים אל אשר לא ידעתם ואנחנו משתחוים אל אשר ידענו כי הישועה מן היהודים היא׃

²³But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and truth: for such doth the Father seek to be his worshippers.

²³Mais l'heure vient, et elle est déjà venue, où les vrais adorateurs adoreront le Père en esprit et en vérité; car ce sont là les adorateurs que le Père demande.

²³אולם תבוא שעה ועתה היא אשר עבדי אל האמתים ישתחוו לאב ברוח ובאמת כי במשתחוים כאלה חפץ האב׃

²⁴God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship in spirit and truth.

²⁴Dieu est Esprit, et il faut que ceux qui l'adorent l'adorent en esprit et en vérité.

²⁴האלהים רוח הוא והמשתחוים לו צריכים להשתחות ברוח ובאמת׃

²⁵The woman saith unto him, I know that Messiah cometh (he that is called Christ): when he is come, he will declare unto us all things.

²⁵La femme lui dit: Je sais que le Messie doit venir celui qu'on appelle Christ; quand il sera venu, il nous annoncera toutes choses.

²⁵ותאמר אליו האשה ידעתי כי יבא המשיח הנקרא כריסטוס הוא בבאו יגיד לנו את כל׃

²⁶Jesus saith unto her, I that speak unto thee am [he].

²⁶Jésus lui dit: Je le suis, moi qui te parle.

²⁶ויאמר אליה ישוע אני הוא המדבר אליך׃

²⁷And upon this came his disciples; and they marvelled that he was speaking with a woman; yet no man said, What seekest thou? or, Why speakest thou with her?

²⁷Là-dessus arrivèrent ses disciples, qui furent étonnés de ce qu'il parlait avec une femme. Toutefois aucun ne dit: Que demandes-tu? ou: De quoi parles-tu avec elle?

²⁷ויהי הוא מדבר ככה ותלמידיו באו ויתמהו על דברו עם אשה אך לא אמר לו איש מה זה תשאל או מה תדבר עמה׃

²⁸So the woman left her waterpot, and went away into the city, and saith to the people,

²⁸Alors la femme, ayant laissé sa cruche, s'en alla dans la ville, et dit aux gens:

²⁸ותעזב האשה את כדה ותלך העירה ותאמר אל האנשים׃

²⁹Come, see a man, who told me all things that [ever] I did: can this be the Christ?

²⁹Venez voir un homme qui m'a dit tout ce que j'ai fait; ne serait-ce point le Christ?

²⁹באו וראו איש אשר הגיד לי כל אשר עשיתי הכי זה הוא המשיח׃

³⁰They went out of the city, and were coming to him.

³⁰Ils sortirent de la ville, et ils vinrent vers lui.

³⁰ויצאו מן העיר ויבאו אליו׃

³¹In the mean while the disciples prayed him, saying, Rabbi, eat.

³¹Pendant ce temps, les disciples le pressaient de manger, disant: Rabbi, mange.

³¹טרם יבאו ותלמידיו בקשו ממנו לאמר אכל נא אדני׃

³²But he said unto them, I have meat to eat that ye know not.

³²Mais il leur dit: J'ai à manger une nourriture que vous ne connaissez pas.

³²ויאמר אליהם יש לי אכל לאכל אשר אתם לא ידעתם׃

³³The disciples therefore said one to another, Hath any man brought him [aught] to eat?

³³Les disciples se disaient donc les uns aux autres: Quelqu'un lui aurait-il apporté à manger?

³³ויאמרו התלמידים איש אל רעהו הכי הביא לו איש לאכל׃

³⁴Jesus saith unto them, My meat is to do the will of him that sent me, and to accomplish his work.

³⁴Jésus leur dit: Ma nourriture est de faire la volonté de celui qui m'a envoyé, et d'accomplir son oeuvre.

³⁴ויאמר אליהם ישוע מאכלי הוא לעשות רצון שלחי ולהשלים מעשהו׃

³⁵Say not ye, There are yet four months, and [then] cometh the harvest? behold, I say unto you, Lift up your eyes, and look on the fields, that they are white already unto harvest.

³⁵Ne dites-vous pas qu'il y a encore quatre mois jusqu'à la moisson? Voici, je vous le dis, levez les yeux, et regardez les champs qui déjà blanchissent pour la moisson.

³⁵הלא אתם תאמרו כי עוד ארבעה חדשים והקציר בא הנה אני אמר לכם שאו עיניכם וראו בשדות כי כבר הלבינו לקציר׃

³⁶He that reapeth receiveth wages, and gathereth fruit unto life eternal; that he that soweth and he that reapeth may rejoice together.

³⁶Celui qui moissonne reçoit un salaire, et amasse des fruits pour la vie éternelle, afin que celui qui sème et celui qui moissonne se réjouissent ensemble.

³⁶והקוצר יקח שכרו ויאסף תבואה לחיי עולמים למען ישמחו יחדו גם הזרע גם הקוצר׃

³⁷For herein is the saying true, One soweth, and another reapeth.

³⁷Car en ceci ce qu'on dit est vrai: Autre est celui qui sème, et autre celui qui moissonne.

³⁷כי בזאת אמת המשל כי זה זרע ואחר יקצר׃

³⁸I sent you to reap that whereon ye have not labored: others have labored, and ye are entered into their labor.

³⁸Je vous ai envoyés moissonner ce que vous n'avez pas travaillé; d'autres ont travaillé, et vous êtes entrés dans leur travail.

³⁸אנכי שלחתי אתכם לקצר את אשר לא עמלתם בו ואחרים עמלו ואתם נכנסתם בעמלם׃

³⁹And from that city many of the Samaritans believed on him because of the word of the woman, who testified, He told me all things that [ever] I did.

³⁹Plusieurs Samaritains de cette ville crurent en Jésus à cause de cette déclaration formelle de la femme: Il m'a dit tout ce que j'ai fait.

³⁹ויאמינו בו שמרנים רבים מן העיר ההיא על דבר האשה אשר העידה לאמר הוא הגיד לי את כל אשר עשיתי׃

⁴⁰So when the Samaritans came unto him, they besought him to abide with them: and he abode there two days.

⁴⁰Aussi, quand les Samaritains vinrent le trouver, ils le prièrent de rester auprès d'eux. Et il resta là deux jours.

⁴⁰ויהי כאשר באו אליו השמרנים וישאלו ממנו לשבת אתם וישב שם יומים׃

⁴¹And many more believed because of his word;

⁴¹Un beaucoup plus grand nombre crurent à cause de sa parole;

⁴¹ועוד רבים מהמה האמינו בו בעבור דברו׃

⁴²and they said to the woman, Now we believe, not because of thy speaking: for we have heard for ourselves, and know that this is indeed the Saviour of the world.

⁴²et ils disaient à la femme: Ce n'est plus à cause de ce que tu as dit que nous croyons; car nous l'avons entendu nous-mêmes, et nous savons qu'il est vraiment le Sauveur du monde.

⁴²ויאמרו אל האשה מעתה לא בעבור מאמרך נאמין כי באזנינו שמענו ונדע כי אמנם זה הוא המשיח מושיע העולם׃

⁴³And after the two days he went forth from thence into Galilee.

⁴³Après ces deux jours, Jésus partit de là, pour se rendre en Galilée;

⁴³ויהי מקץ שני הימים ויצא משם ללכת הגלילה׃

⁴⁴For Jesus himself testified, that a prophet hath no honor in his own country.

⁴⁴car il avait déclaré lui-même qu'un prophète n'est pas honoré dans sa propre patrie.

⁴⁴כי הוא ישוע העיד כי נביא בארץ מולדתו איננו נכבד׃

⁴⁵So when he came into Galilee, the Galilaeans received him, having seen all the things that he did in Jerusalem at the feast: for they also went unto the feast.

⁴⁵Lorsqu'il arriva en Galilée, il fut bien reçu des Galiléens, qui avaient vu tout ce qu'il avait fait à Jérusalem pendant la fête; car eux aussi étaient allés à la fête.

⁴⁵ויהי הוא בא ארץ הגליל ויאספהו אנשי הגליל כי ראו את כל אשר עשה בירושלים בימי החג כי גם הם עלו לחג את החג׃

⁴⁶He came therefore again unto Cana of Galilee, where he made the water wine. And there was a certain nobleman, whose son was sick at Capernaum.

⁴⁶Il retourna donc à Cana en Galilée, où il avait changé l'eau en vin. Il y avait à Capernaüm un officier du roi, dont le fils était malade.

⁴⁶ויבא ישוע עוד הפעם אל קנה אשר בגליל מקום שומו המים ליין ואיש היה מעבדי המלך ובנו חלה בכפר נחום׃

⁴⁷When he heard that Jesus was come out of Judaea into Galilee, he went unto him, and besought [him] that he would come down, and heal his son; for he was at the point of death.

⁴⁷Ayant appris que Jésus était venu de Judée en Galilée, il alla vers lui, et le pria de descendre et de guérir son fils, qui était près de mourir.

⁴⁷ויהי כשמעו כי בא ישוע מיהודה לארץ הגליל וילך אליו וישאל מאתו לרדת ולרפא את בנו כי קרב למות׃

⁴⁸Jesus therefore said unto him, Except ye see signs and wonders, ye will in no wise believe.

⁴⁸Jésus lui dit: Si vous ne voyez des miracles et des prodiges, vous ne croyez point.

⁴⁸ויאמר אליו ישוע אם לא תראו אתות ומופתים לא תאמינו׃

⁴⁹The nobleman saith unto him, Sir, come down ere my child die.

⁴⁹L'officier du roi lui dit: Seigneur, descends avant que mon enfant meure.

⁴⁹ויאמר אליו האיש אשר מעבדי המלך אדני רדה נא בטרם ימות בני׃

⁵⁰Jesus saith unto him, Go thy way; thy son liveth. The man believed the word that Jesus spake unto him, and he went his way.

⁵⁰Va, lui dit Jésus, ton fils vit. Et cet homme crut à la parole que Jésus lui avait dite, et il s'en alla.

⁵⁰ויאמר אליו ישוע לך לך בנך חי והאיש האמין לדבר אשר דבר אליו ישוע וילך׃

⁵¹And as he was now going down, his servants met him, saying, that his son lived.

⁵¹Comme déjà il descendait, ses serviteurs venant à sa rencontre, lui apportèrent cette nouvelle: Ton enfant vit.

⁵¹ויהי ברדתו ויפגעו בו עבדיו ויבשרו אתו כי חי בנו׃

⁵²So he inquired of them the hour when he began to amend. They said therefore unto him, Yesterday at the seventh hour the fever left him.

⁵²Il leur demanda à quelle heure il s'était trouvé mieux; et ils lui dirent: Hier, à la septième heure, la fièvre l'a quitté.

⁵²וידרש מאתם את השעה אשר בה רוח לו ויאמרו אליו תמול בשעה השביעית עזבתו הקדחת׃

⁵³So the father knew that [it was] at that hour in which Jesus said unto him, Thy son liveth: and himself believed, and his whole house.

⁵³Le père reconnut que c'était à cette heure-là que Jésus lui avait dit: Ton fils vit. Et il crut, lui et toute sa maison.

⁵³וידע אביהו כי היתה השעה אשר דבר לו ישוע בנך חי ויאמן הוא וכל ביתו׃

⁵⁴This is again the second sign that Jesus did, having come out of Judaea into Galilee.

⁵⁴Jésus fit encore ce second miracle lorsqu'il fut venu de Judée en Galilée.

⁵⁴זה הוא האות השני אשר עשה ישוע בבאו מיהודה לארץ הגליל׃
