¹After these things there was a feast of the Jews; and Jesus went up to Jerusalem.

¹Après cela, il y eut une fête des Juifs, et Jésus monta à Jérusalem.

¹אחר הדברים האלה היה חג ליהודים ויעל ישוע ירושלים׃

²Now there is in Jerusalem by the sheep [gate] a pool, which is called in Hebrew Bethesda, having five porches.

²Or, à Jérusalem, près de la porte des brebis, il y a une piscine qui s'appelle en hébreu Béthesda, et qui a cinq portiques.

²ובירושלים ברכה קרובה לשער הצאן ושמה בלשון עברית בית חסדא ולה חמשה אלמים׃

³In these lay a multitude of them that were sick, blind, halt, withered, [waiting for the moving of the water.]

³Sous ces portiques étaient couchés en grand nombre des malades, des aveugles, des boiteux, des paralytiques, qui attendaient le mouvement de l'eau;

³שמה שכבו חולים ועורים ופסחים ויבשי כח לרב והמה מיחלים לתנועת המים׃

⁴[for an angel of the Lord went down at certain seasons into the pool, and troubled the water: whosoever then first after the troubling of the waters stepped in was made whole, with whatsoever disease he was holden.]

⁴car un ange descendait de temps en temps dans la piscine, et agitait l'eau; et celui qui y descendait le premier après que l'eau avait été agitée était guéri, quelle que fût sa maladie.

⁴כי מלאך ירד במועדו אל הברכה וירעש את מימיה והיה הירד ראשון אל תוכה אחרי התגעשו המים הוא נרפא מכל מחלה אשר דבקה בו׃

⁵And a certain man was there, who had been thirty and eight years in his infirmity.

⁵Là se trouvait un homme malade depuis trente-huit ans.

⁵ואיש היה שם אשר חלה חליו זה שלשים ושמנה שנה׃

⁶When Jesus saw him lying, and knew that he had been now a long time [in that case], he saith unto him, Wouldest thou be made whole?

⁶Jésus, l'ayant vu couché, et sachant qu'il était malade depuis longtemps, lui dit: Veux-tu être guéri?

⁶וירא אתו ישוע שכב וידע כי ארכו לו ימי חליו ויאמר אליו התחפץ להרפא׃

⁷The sick man answered him, Sir, I have no man, when the water is troubled, to put me into the pool: but while I am coming, another steppeth down before me.

⁷Le malade lui répondit: Seigneur, je n'ai personne pour me jeter dans la piscine quand l'eau est agitée, et, pendant que j'y vais, un autre descend avant moi.

⁷ויען החולה אדני אין איש אתי אשר ישליכני בהרעש המים אל הברכה ובטרם אבא וירד אחר לפני׃

⁸Jesus saith unto him, Arise, take up thy bed, and walk.

⁸Lève-toi, lui dit Jésus, prends ton lit, et marche.

⁸ויאמר אליו ישוע קום שא את משכבך והתהלך׃

⁹And straightway the man was made whole, and took up his bed and walked. Now it was the sabbath on that day.

⁹Aussitôt cet homme fut guéri; il prit son lit, et marcha. C'était un jour de sabbat.

⁹וכרגע שב האיש לאיתנו וישא את משכבו ויתהלך והיום ההוא יום שבת היה׃

¹⁰So the Jews said unto him that was cured, It is the sabbath, and it is not lawful for thee to take up thy bed.

¹⁰Les Juifs dirent donc à celui qui avait été guéri: C'est le sabbat; il ne t'est pas permis d'emporter ton lit.

¹⁰ויאמרו היהודים אל האיש הנרפא שבת היום אסור לך לשאת את משכבך׃

¹¹But he answered them, He that made me whole, the same said unto me, Take up thy bed, and walk.

¹¹Il leur répondit: Celui qui m'a guéri m'a dit: Prends ton lit, et marche.

¹¹ויען אתם לאמר האיש אשר החלימני הוא אמר אלי שא את משכבך והתהלך׃

¹²They asked him, Who is the man that said unto thee, Take up [thy bed], and walk?

¹²Ils lui demandèrent: Qui est l'homme qui t'a dit: Prends ton lit, et marche?

¹²וישאלהו מי זה האיש אשר אמר לך שא את משכבך והתהלך׃

¹³But he that was healed knew not who it was; for Jesus had conveyed himself away, a multitude being in the place.

¹³Mais celui qui avait été guéri ne savait pas qui c'était; car Jésus avait disparu de la foule qui était en ce lieu.

¹³והנרפא לא ידע מי הוא כי סר ישוע וילך בהיות המון רב במקום ההוא׃

¹⁴Afterward Jesus findeth him in the temple, and said unto him, Behold, thou art made whole: sin no more, lest a worse thing befall thee.

¹⁴Depuis, Jésus le trouva dans le temple, et lui dit: Voici, tu as été guéri; ne pèche plus, de peur qu'il ne t'arrive quelque chose de pire.

¹⁴ויהי אחרי כן וימצאהו ישוע בבית המקדש ויאמר אליו הנה נרפא לך אל תוסיף לחטא פן תאנה אליך רעה גדולה מזאת׃

¹⁵The man went away, and told the Jews that it was Jesus who had made him whole.

¹⁵Cet homme s'en alla, et annonça aux Juifs que c'était Jésus qui l'avait guéri.

¹⁵וילך האיש ויגד ליהודים כי ישוע הוא אשר רפאו׃

¹⁶And for this cause the Jews persecuted Jesus, because he did these things on the sabbath.

¹⁶C'est pourquoi les Juifs poursuivaient Jésus, parce qu'il faisait ces choses le jour du sabbat.

¹⁶ועל כן רדפו היהודים את ישוע ויבקשו המיתו על כי עשה כזאת בשבת׃

¹⁷But Jesus answered them, My Father worketh even until now, and I work.

¹⁷Mais Jésus leur répondit: Mon Père agit jusqu'à présent; moi aussi, j'agis.

¹⁷ויען אתם ישוע אבי פעל עד עתה וגם אנכי פעל׃

¹⁸For this cause therefore the Jews sought the more to kill him, because he not only brake the sabbath, but also called God his own Father, making himself equal with God.

¹⁸A cause de cela, les Juifs cherchaient encore plus à le faire mourir, non seulement parce qu'il violait le sabbat, mais parce qu'il appelait Dieu son propre Père, se faisant lui-même égal à Dieu.

¹⁸אז יוסיפו היהודים לבקש את נפשו כי מלבד אשר חלל את השבת עוד אמר כי האלהים הוא אביו וידמה לאלהים׃

¹⁹Jesus therefore answered and said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, The Son can do nothing of himself, but what he seeth the Father doing: for what things soever he doeth, these the Son also doeth in like manner.

¹⁹Jésus reprit donc la parole, et leur dit: En vérité, en vérité, je vous le dis, le Fils ne peut rien faire de lui-même, il ne fait que ce qu'il voit faire au Père; et tout ce que le Père fait, le Fils aussi le fait pareillement.

¹⁹ויען ישוע ויאמר אליהם אמן אמן אני אמר לכם לא יוכל הבן לעשות דבר מנפשו בלתי את אשר יראה את אביו עשה כי את אשר עשה הוא גם הבן יעשה כמהו׃

²⁰For the Father loveth the Son, and showeth him all things that himself doeth: and greater works than these will he show him, that ye may marvel.

²⁰Car le Père aime le Fils, et lui montre tout ce qu'il fait; et il lui montrera des oeuvres plus grandes que celles-ci, afin que vous soyez dans l'étonnement.

²⁰כי האב אהב את הבן ומראה אתו כל אשר יעשה ועוד מעשים גדולים מאלה יראהו למען תתמהו׃

²¹For as the Father raiseth the dead and giveth them life, even so the Son also giveth life to whom he will.

²¹Car, comme le Père ressuscite les morts et donne la vie, ainsi le Fils donne la vie à qui il veut.

²¹כי כאשר האב יעיר ויחיה את המתים כן גם הבן יחיה את אשר יחפץ׃

²²For neither doth the Father judge any man, but he hath given all judgment unto the Son;

²²Le Père ne juge personne, mais il a remis tout jugement au Fils,

²²כי האב לא ידין איש כי אם כל המשפט נתן לבן למען יכבדו כלם את הבן כאשר יכבדו את האב׃

²³that all may honor the Son, even as they honor the Father. He that honoreth not the Son honoreth not the Father that sent him.

²³afin que tous honorent le Fils comme ils honorent le Père. Celui qui n'honore pas le Fils n'honore pas le Père qui l'a envoyé.

²³מי אשר לא יכבד את הבן גם את האב אשר שלחו איננו מכבד׃

²⁴Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth him that sent me, hath eternal life, and cometh not into judgment, but hath passed out of death into life.

²⁴En vérité, en vérité, je vous le dis, celui qui écoute ma parole, et qui croit à celui qui m'a envoyé, a la vie éternelle et ne vient point en jugement, mais il est passé de la mort à la vie.

²⁴אמן אמן אני אמר לכם השמע דברי ומאמין לשלחי יש לו חיי עולמים ולא יבא במשפט כי עבר ממות לחיים׃

²⁵Verily, verily, I say unto you, The hour cometh, and now is, when the dead shall hear the voice of the Son of God; and they that hear shall live.

²⁵En vérité, en vérité, je vous le dis, l'heure vient, et elle est déjà venue, où les morts entendront la voix du Fils de Dieu; et ceux qui l'auront entendue vivront.

²⁵אמן אמן אני אמר לכם כי תבוא שעה ועתה היא אשר ישמעו המתים את קול בן האלהים והשמעים חיה יחיו׃

²⁶For as the Father hath life in himself, even so gave he to the Son also to have life in himself:

²⁶Car, comme le Père a la vie en lui-même, ainsi il a donné au Fils d'avoir la vie en lui-même.

²⁶כי כאשר לאב יש חיים בעצמו כן נתן גם לבן להיות לו חיים בעצמו׃

²⁷and he gave him authority to execute judgment, because he is a son of man.

²⁷Et il lui a donné le pouvoir de juger, parce qu'il est Fils de l'homme.

²⁷ואף שלטן נתן לו לעשות משפט כי בן אדם הוא׃

²⁸Marvel not at this: for the hour cometh, in which all that are in the tombs shall hear his voice,

²⁸Ne vous étonnez pas de cela; car l'heure vient où tous ceux qui sont dans les sépulcres entendront sa voix,

²⁸אל תתמהו על זאת כי הנה שעה באה אשר כל שכני קבר את קולו ישמעון׃

²⁹and shall come forth; they that have done good, unto the resurrection of life; and they that have done evil, unto the resurrection of judgment.

²⁹et en sortiront. Ceux qui auront fait le bien ressusciteront pour la vie, mais ceux qui auront fait le mal ressusciteront pour le jugement.

²⁹ויצאו עשי הטוב לתקומת החיים ועשי הרע לתקומת המשפט׃

³⁰I can of myself do nothing: as I hear, I judge: and my judgment is righteous; because I seek not mine own will, but the will of him that sent me.

³⁰Je ne puis rien faire de moi-même: selon que j'entends, je juge; et mon jugement est juste, parce que je ne cherche pas ma volonté, mais la volonté de celui qui m'a envoyé.

³⁰לא אוכל לעשות דבר מנפשי כאשר אשמע כן אשפט ומשפטי משפט צדק כי לא אבקש רצוני כי אם רצון האב אשר שלחני׃

³¹If I bear witness of myself, my witness is not true.

³¹Si c'est moi qui rends témoignage de moi-même, mon témoignage n'est pas vrai.

³¹אם אנכי מעיד עלי עדותי איננה נאמנה׃

³²It is another that beareth witness of me; and I know that the witness which he witnesseth of me is true.

³²Il y en a un autre qui rend témoignage de moi, et je sais que le témoignage qu'il rend de moi est vrai.

³²יש אחר המעיד עלי וידעתי כי עדותו אשר הוא מעיד עלי נאמנה היא׃

³³Ye have sent unto John, and he hath borne witness unto the truth.

³³Vous avez envoyé vers Jean, et il a rendu témoignage à la vérité.

³³אתם שלחתם אל יוחנן והוא העיד על האמת׃

³⁴But the witness which I receive is not from man: howbeit I say these things, that ye may be saved.

³⁴Pour moi ce n'est pas d'un homme que je reçois le témoignage; mais je dis ceci, afin que vous soyez sauvés.

³⁴ואני אינני לקח עדות מאדם אך אמרתי זאת למען תושעון׃

³⁵He was the lamp that burneth and shineth; and ye were willing to rejoice for a season in his light.

³⁵Jean était la lampe qui brûle et qui luit, et vous avez voulu vous réjouir une heure à sa lumière.

³⁵הוא היה הנר הדלק והמאיר ואתם רציתם לשוש כשעה לאורו׃

³⁶But the witness which I have is greater than [that of] John; for the works which the Father hath given me to accomplish, the very works that I do, bear witness of me, that the Father hath sent me.

³⁶Moi, j'ai un témoignage plus grand que celui de Jean; car les oeuvres que le Père m'a donné d'accomplir, ces oeuvres mêmes que je fais, témoignent de moi que c'est le Père qui m'a envoyé.

³⁶ואני יש לי עדות גדולה מעדות יוחנן כי המעשים אשר נתן לי אבי להשלימם המעשים האלה אשר אני עשה מעידים עלי כי האב שלחני׃

³⁷And the Father that sent me, he hath borne witness of me. Ye have neither heard his voice at any time, nor seen his form.

³⁷Et le Père qui m'a envoyé a rendu lui-même témoignage de moi. Vous n'avez jamais entendu sa voix, vous n'avez point vu sa face,

³⁷והאב אשר שלחני הוא מעיד עלי ואתם את קולו לא שמעתם מעולם ותמונתו לא ראיתם׃

³⁸And ye have not his word abiding in you: for whom he sent, him ye believe not.

³⁸et sa parole ne demeure point en vous, parce que vous ne croyez pas à celui qu'il a envoyé.

³⁸ודברו איננו שכן בקרבכם כי אינכם מאמינים לשלוחו׃

³⁹Ye search the scriptures, because ye think that in them ye have eternal life; and these are they which bear witness of me;

³⁹Vous sondez les Ecritures, parce que vous pensez avoir en elles la vie éternelle: ce sont elles qui rendent témoignage de moi.

³⁹דרשו בכתובים אשר תחשבו שיש לכם חיי עולמים בהם והמה המעידים עלי׃

⁴⁰and ye will not come to me, that ye may have life.

⁴⁰Et vous ne voulez pas venir à moi pour avoir la vie!

⁴⁰ואתם אינכם אבים לבוא אלי להיות לכם חיים׃

⁴¹I receive not glory from men.

⁴¹Je ne tire pas ma gloire des hommes.

⁴¹לא אקח כבוד מבני אדם׃

⁴²But I know you, that ye have not the love of God in yourselves.

⁴²Mais je sais que vous n'avez point en vous l'amour de Dieu.

⁴²אכן ידעתי אתכם כי אין אהבת אלהים בקרבכם׃

⁴³I am come in my Father's name, and ye receive me not: if another shall come in his own name, him ye will receive.

⁴³Je suis venu au nom de mon Père, et vous ne me recevez pas; si un autre vient en son propre nom, vous le recevrez.

⁴³אני הנה באתי בשם אבי ולא קבלתם אתו ואם יבא אחר בשם עצמו אתו תקבלו׃

⁴⁴How can ye believe, who receive glory one of another, and the glory that [cometh] from the only God ye seek not?

⁴⁴Comment pouvez-vous croire, vous qui tirez votre gloire les uns des autres, et qui ne cherchez point la gloire qui vient de Dieu seul?

⁴⁴איך תוכלו להאמין אתם הלקחים כבוד איש מרעהו ואת הכבוד אשר מאת האלהים היחיד לא תבקשו׃

⁴⁵Think not that I will accuse you to the Father: there is one that accuseth you, [even] Moses, on whom ye have set your hope.

⁴⁵Ne pensez pas que moi je vous accuserai devant le Père; celui qui vous accuse, c'est Moïse, en qui vous avez mis votre espérance.

⁴⁵אל תחשבו כי אנכי אטען עליכם לפני אבי משה הוא הטען עליכם אשר לו תיחלו׃

⁴⁶For if ye believed Moses, ye would believe me; for he wrote of me.

⁴⁶Car si vous croyiez Moïse, vous me croiriez aussi, parce qu'il a écrit de moi.

⁴⁶כי לו האמנתם למשה גם לי תאמינו כי הוא כתב עלי׃

⁴⁷But if ye believe not his writings, how shall ye believe my words?

⁴⁷Mais si vous ne croyez pas à ses écrits, comment croirez-vous à mes paroles?

⁴⁷ואם לכתביו אינכם מאמינים איכה לדברי תאמינו׃
