¹After these things Jesus went away to the other side of the sea of Galilee, which is [the sea] of Tiberias.

¹Après cela, Jésus s'en alla de l'autre côté de la mer de Galilée, de Tibériade.

¹ויהי אחרי כן ויצא ישוע אל עבר ים הגליל אשר לטיבריה׃

²And a great multitude followed him, because they beheld the signs which he did on them that were sick.

²Une grande foule le suivait, parce qu'elle voyait les miracles qu'il opérait sur les malades.

²וילכו אחריו המון עם רב כי ראו אותתיו אשר עשה עם החולים׃

³And Jesus went up into the mountain, and there he sat with his disciples.

³Jésus monta sur la montagne, et là il s'assit avec ses disciples.

³ויעל ישוע על ההר וישב שם הוא ותלמידיו׃

⁴Now the passover, the feast of the Jews, was at hand.

⁴Or, la Pâque était proche, la fête des Juifs.

⁴וימי הפסח חג היהודים קרבו לבוא׃

⁵Jesus therefore lifting up his eyes, and seeing that a great multitude cometh unto him, saith unto Philip, Whence are we to buy bread, that these may eat?

⁵Ayant levé les yeux, et voyant qu'une grande foule venait à lui, Jésus dit à Philippe: Où achèterons-nous des pains, pour que ces gens aient à manger?

⁵וישא ישוע את עיניו וירא עם רב בא אליו ויאמר אל פילפוס מאין נקנה להם לחם לאכל׃

⁶And this he said to prove him: for he himself knew what he would do.

⁶Il disait cela pour l'éprouver, car il savait ce qu'il allait faire.

⁶ואך למען נסות אתו דבר זאת כי הוא ידע את אשר יעשה׃

⁷Philip answered him, Two hundred shillings' worth of bread is not sufficient for them, that every one may take a little.

⁷Philippe lui répondit: Les pains qu'on aurait pour deux cents deniers ne suffiraient pas pour que chacun en reçût un peu.

⁷ויען אתו פילפוס לחם מאתים דינר לא ימצא להם לקחת לו איש איש מעט׃

⁸One of his disciples, Andrew, Simon Peter's brother, saith unto him,

⁸Un de ses disciples, André, frère de Simon Pierre, lui dit:

⁸ויאמר אליו אחד מתלמידיו אנדרי אחי שמעון פטרוס׃

⁹There is a lad here, who hath five barley loaves, and two fishes: but what are these among so many?

⁹Il y a ici un jeune garçon qui a cinq pains d'orge et deux poissons; mais qu'est-ce que cela pour tant de gens?

⁹יש פה נער אשר לו חמש ככרות לחם שערים ושני דגים אך אלה מה המה לעם רב כזה׃

¹⁰Jesus said, Make the people sit down. Now there was much grass in the place. So the men sat down, in number about five thousand.

¹⁰Jésus dit: Faites-les asseoir. Il y avait dans ce lieu beaucoup d'herbe. Ils s'assirent donc, au nombre d'environ cinq mille hommes.

¹⁰ויאמר ישוע צוו את העם לשבת ארצה וירק דשא לרב היה במקום ההוא וישבו לארץ כחמשת אלפי איש במספר׃

¹¹Jesus therefore took the loaves; and having given thanks, he distributed to them that were set down; likewise also of the fishes as much as they would.

¹¹Jésus prit les pains, rendit grâces, et les distribua à ceux qui étaient assis; il leur donna de même des poissons, autant qu'ils en voulurent.

¹¹ויקח ישוע את ככרות הלחם ויברך ויתן לתלמידיו והתלמידים אל המסבים וככה גם מן הדגים כאות נפשם׃

¹²And when they were filled, he saith unto his disciples, Gather up the broken pieces which remain over, that nothing be lost.

¹²Lorsqu'ils furent rassasiés, il dit à ses disciples: Ramassez les morceaux qui restent, afin que rien ne se perde.

¹²ויהי כאשר שבעו ויאמר אל תלמידיו אספו את פתותי לחם הנותרים למען לא יאבד מאומה׃

¹³So they gathered them up, and filled twelve baskets with broken pieces from the five barley loaves, which remained over unto them that had eaten.

¹³Ils les ramassèrent donc, et ils remplirent douze paniers avec les morceaux qui restèrent des cinq pains d'orge, après que tous eurent mangé.

¹³ויאספו וימלאו שנים עשר סלים בפתותי חמש ככרות לחם השערים הנותרים לאכליהם׃

¹⁴When therefore the people saw the sign which he did, they said, This is of a truth the prophet that cometh into the world.

¹⁴Ces gens, ayant vu le miracle que Jésus avait fait, disaient: Celui-ci est vraiment le prophète qui doit venir dans le monde.

¹⁴ויהי כראות האנשים את האות הזה אשר עשה ישוע ויאמרו הנה זה הוא באמת הנביא הבא לעולם׃

¹⁵Jesus therefore perceiving that they were about to come and take him by force, to make him king, withdrew again into the mountain himself alone.

¹⁵Et Jésus, sachant qu'ils allaient venir l'enlever pour le faire roi, se retira de nouveau sur la montagne, lui seul.

¹⁵וידע ישוע כי יבאו ויתפשהו להמליך אותו וימלט עוד הפעם אל ההר הוא לבדו׃

¹⁶And when evening came, his disciples went down unto the sea;

¹⁶Quand le soir fut venu, ses disciples descendirent au bord de la mer.

¹⁶ויהי בערב וירדו תלמידיו אל הים ויבאו באניה ויעברו אל עבר הים אל כפר נחום׃

¹⁷and they entered into a boat, and were going over the sea unto Capernaum. And it was now dark, and Jesus had not yet come to them.

¹⁷Etant montés dans une barque, ils traversaient la mer pour se rendre à Capernaüm. Il faisait déjà nuit, et Jésus ne les avait pas encore rejoints.

¹⁷ויכס אתם החשך וישוע לא בא אליהם׃

¹⁸And the sea was rising by reason of a great wind that blew.

¹⁸Il soufflait un grand vent, et la mer était agitée.

¹⁸ויסער הים כי רוח גדולה נושבת׃

¹⁹When therefore they had rowed about five and twenty or thirty furlongs, they behold Jesus walking on the sea, and drawing nigh unto the boat: and they were afraid.

¹⁹Après avoir ramé environ vingt-cinq ou trente stades, ils virent Jésus marchant sur la mer et s'approchant de la barque. Et ils eurent peur.

¹⁹והם חתרו במשוטיהם כדרך עשרים וחמש או שלשים ריס ויראו את ישוע מתהלך על הים הלוך וקרב אל האניה וייראו׃

²⁰But he saith unto them, It is I; be not afraid.

²⁰Mais Jésus leur dit: C'est moi; n'ayez pas peur!

²⁰ויאמר אליהם אני הוא אל תיראו׃

²¹They were willing therefore to receive him into the boat: and straightway the boat was at the land whither they were going.

²¹Ils voulaient donc le prendre dans la barque, et aussitôt la barque aborda au lieu où ils allaient.

²¹ויואילו לקחת אתו אל האניה ורגע הגיעה האניה לארץ אשר הם הלכים שמה׃

²²On the morrow the multitude that stood on the other side of the sea saw that there was no other boat there, save one, and that Jesus entered not with his disciples into the boat, but [that] his disciples went away alone

²²La foule qui était restée de l'autre côté de la mer avait remarqué qu'il ne se trouvait là qu'une seule barque, et que Jésus n'était pas monté dans cette barque avec ses disciples, mais qu'ils étaient partis seuls.

²²ויהי ממחרת וירא המון העם העמד מעבר לים כי לא היתה אניה בזה בלתי אחת אשר ירדו בה תלמידיו וכי ישוע לא בא עם תלמידיו אל האניה אך תלמידיו לבדם נסעו מזה׃

²³(howbeit there came boats from Tiberias nigh unto the place where they ate the bread after the Lord had given thanks):

²³Le lendemain, comme d'autres barques étaient arrivées de Tibériade près du lieu où ils avaient mangé le pain après que le Seigneur eut rendu grâces,

²³ואניות אחרות באו מטיברים קרוב למקום אשר אכלו שם את הלחם בברכת האדון׃

²⁴when the multitude therefore saw that Jesus was not there, neither his disciples, they themselves got into the boats, and came to Capernaum, seeking Jesus.

²⁴les gens de la foule, ayant vu que ni Jésus ni ses disciples n'étaient là, montèrent eux-mêmes dans ces barques et allèrent à Capernaüm à la recherche de Jésus.

²⁴ויהי כראות המון העם כי ישוע איננו שם אף לא תלמידיו וירדו גם הם באניות ויבאו אל כפר נחום לבקש את ישוע׃

²⁵And when they found him on the other side of the sea, they said unto him, Rabbi, when camest thou hither?

²⁵Et l'ayant trouvé au delà de la mer, ils lui dirent: Rabbi, quand es-tu venu ici?

²⁵וכאשר מצאו אתו מעבר הים ויאמרו אליו רבי מתי באת הלם׃

²⁶Jesus answered them and said, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Ye seek me, not because ye saw signs, but because ye ate of the loaves, and were filled.

²⁶Jésus leur répondit: En vérité, en vérité, je vous le dis, vous me cherchez, non parce que vous avez vu des miracles, mais parce que vous avez mangé des pains et que vous avez été rassasiés.

²⁶ויען אתם ישוע ויאמר אמן אמן אני אמר לכם לא על ראותכם את האתות תבקשוני כי אם על אשר אכלתם מן הלחם ותשבעו׃

²⁷Work not for the food which perisheth, but for the food which abideth unto eternal life, which the Son of man shall give unto you: for him the Father, even God, hath sealed.

²⁷Travaillez, non pour la nourriture qui périt, mais pour celle qui subsiste pour la vie éternelle, et que le Fils de l'homme vous donnera; car c'est lui que le Père, que Dieu a marqué de son sceau.

²⁷אל תעמלו במאכל אשר יאבד כי אם במאכל הקים לחיי עולמים אשר בן האדם יתננו לכם כי בו חתם חותמו אביו האלהים׃

²⁸They said therefore unto him, What must we do, that we may work the works of God?

²⁸Ils lui dirent: Que devons-nous faire, pour faire les oeuvres de Dieu?

²⁸ויאמרו אליו מה נעשה לפעל פעלות אלהים׃

²⁹Jesus answered and said unto them, This is the work of God, that ye believe on him whom he hath sent.

²⁹Jésus leur répondit: L'oeuvre de Dieu, c'est que vous croyiez en celui qu'il a envoyé.

²⁹ויען ישוע ויאמר אליהם זאת פעלת אלהים כי תאמינו בזה אשר הוא שלחו׃

³⁰They said therefore unto him, What then doest thou for a sign, that we may see, and believe thee? what workest thou?

³⁰Quel miracle fais-tu donc, lui dirent-ils, afin que nous le voyions, et que nous croyions en toi? Que fais-tu?

³⁰ויאמרו אליו מה אפוא האות אשר תעשה למעננראה ונאמין בך מה תפעל׃

³¹Our fathers ate the manna in the wilderness; as it is written, He gave them bread out of heaven to eat.

³¹Nos pères ont mangé la manne dans le désert, selon ce qui est écrit: Il leur donna le pain du ciel à manger.

³¹אבותינו אכלו את המן במדבר כאשר כתוב לחם מן השמים נתן למו לאכל׃

³²Jesus therefore said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, It was not Moses that gave you the bread out of heaven; but my Father giveth you the true bread out of heaven.

³²Jésus leur dit: En vérité, en vérité, je vous le dis, Moïse ne vous a pas donné le pain du ciel, mais mon Père vous donne le vrai pain du ciel;

³²ויאמר אליהם ישוע אמן אמן אני אמר לכם לא משה נתן לכם את הלחם מן השמים כי אם אבי נתן לכם את הלחם מן השמים האמתי׃

³³For the bread of God is that which cometh down out of heaven, and giveth life unto the world.

³³car le pain de Dieu, c'est celui qui descend du ciel et qui donne la vie au monde.

³³כי לחם אלהים הוא היורד מן השמים ונתן חיים לעולם׃

³⁴They said therefore unto him, Lord, evermore give us this bread.

³⁴Ils lui dirent: Seigneur, donne-nous toujours ce pain.

³⁴ויאמרו אליו אדני תנה לנו תמיד את הלחם הזה׃

³⁵Jesus said unto them. I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall not hunger, and he that believeth on me shall never thirst.

³⁵Jésus leur dit: Je suis le pain de vie. Celui qui vient à moi n'aura jamais faim, et celui qui croit en moi n'aura jamais soif.

³⁵ויאמר להם ישוע אנכי הוא לחם החיים כל הבא אלי לא ירעב ואשר יאמין בי לא יצמא עוד׃

³⁶But I said unto you, that ye have seen me, and yet believe not.

³⁶Mais, je vous l'ai dit, vous m'avez vu, et vous ne croyez point.

³⁶ואני הנה אמרתי לכם כי גם חזיתם אתי ולא תאמינו׃

³⁷All that which the Father giveth me shall come unto me; and him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out.

³⁷Tous ceux que le Père me donne viendront à moi, et je ne mettrai pas dehors celui qui vient à moi;

³⁷כל אשר יתננו לי אבי יבוא אלי והבא אלי לא אהדפנו החוצה׃

³⁸For I am come down from heaven, not to do mine own will, but the will of him that sent me.

³⁸car je suis descendu du ciel pour faire, non ma volonté, mais la volonté de celui qui m'a envoyé.

³⁸כי ירדתי מן השמים לא לעשות רצוני כי אם רצון שלחי׃

³⁹And this is the will of him that sent me, that of all that which he hath given me I should lose nothing, but should raise it up at the last day.

³⁹Or, la volonté de celui qui m'a envoyé, c'est que je ne perde rien de tout ce qu'il m'a donné, mais que je le ressuscite au dernier jour.

³⁹וזה רצון האב אשר שלחני כי כל אשר נתן לי לא יאבד לי כי אם אקימנו ביום האחרון׃

⁴⁰For this is the will of my Father, that every one that beholdeth the Son, and believeth on him, should have eternal life; and I will raise him up at the last day.

⁴⁰La volonté de mon Père, c'est que quiconque voit le Fils et croit en lui ait la vie éternelle; et je le ressusciterai au dernier jour.

⁴⁰וזה רצון שלחי אשר כל הראה את הבן ומאמין בו יהיו לו חיי עולמים ואני אקימנו ביום האחרון׃

⁴¹The Jews therefore murmured concerning him, because he said, I am the bread which came down out of heaven.

⁴¹Les Juifs murmuraient à son sujet, parce qu'il avait dit: Je suis le pain qui est descendu du ciel.

⁴¹וילנו עליו היהודים על אמרו אנכי הוא הלחם הירד מן השמים׃

⁴²And they said, Is not this Jesus, the son of Joseph, whose father and mother we know? how doth he now say, I am come down out of heaven?

⁴²Et ils disaient: N'est-ce pas là Jésus, le fils de Joseph, celui dont nous connaissons le père et la mère? Comment donc dit-il: Je suis descendu du ciel?

⁴²ויאמרו הלא זה הוא ישוע בן יוסף אשר אנחנו ידעים את אביו ואת אמו ואיך יאמר מן השמים באתי׃

⁴³Jesus answered and said unto them, Murmur not among yourselves.

⁴³Jésus leur répondit: Ne murmurez pas entre vous.

⁴³ויען ישוע ויאמר אליהם אל תלינו איש אל רעהו׃

⁴⁴No man can come to me, except the Father that sent me draw him: and I will raise him up in the last day.

⁴⁴Nul ne peut venir à moi, si le Père qui m'a envoyé ne l'attire; et je le ressusciterai au dernier jour.

⁴⁴לא יוכל איש לבוא אלי בלתי אם ימשכהו אבי אשר שלחני ואני אקימנו ביום האחרון׃

⁴⁵It is written in the prophets, And they shall all be taught of God. Every one that hath heard from the Father, and hath learned, cometh unto me.

⁴⁵Il est écrit dans les prophètes: Ils seront tous enseignés de Dieu. Ainsi quiconque a entendu le Père et a reçu son enseignement vient à moi.

⁴⁵הלא כתוב בנביאים וכל בניך למודי יהוה לכן כל אשר שמע מן האב ולמד יבא אלי׃

⁴⁶Not that any man hath seen the Father, save he that is from God, he hath seen the Father.

⁴⁶C'est que nul n'a vu le Père, sinon celui qui vient de Dieu; celui-là a vu le Père.

⁴⁶לא כאלו ראה איש את האב בלתי הבא מאת האלהים הוא ראה את האלהים׃

⁴⁷Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth hath eternal life.

⁴⁷En vérité, en vérité, je vous le dis, celui qui croit en moi a la vie éternelle.

⁴⁷אמן אמן אני אמר לכם המאמין בי לו חיי עולמים׃

⁴⁸I am the bread of life.

⁴⁸Je suis le pain de vie.

⁴⁸אנכי הוא לחם החיים׃

⁴⁹Your fathers ate the manna in the wilderness, and they died.

⁴⁹Vos pères ont mangé la manne dans le désert, et ils sont morts.

⁴⁹אבותיכם אכלו את המן במדבר וימתו׃

⁵⁰This is the bread which cometh down out of heaven, that a man may eat thereof, and not die.

⁵⁰C'est ici le pain qui descend du ciel, afin que celui qui en mange ne meure point.

⁵⁰זה הוא הלחם הירד מן השמים למען יאכל איש ממנו ולא ימות׃

⁵¹I am the living bread which came down out of heaven: if any man eat of this bread, he shall live for ever: yea and the bread which I will give is my flesh, for the life of the world.

⁵¹Je suis le pain vivant qui est descendu du ciel. Si quelqu'un mange de ce pain, il vivra éternellement; et le pain que je donnerai, c'est ma chair, que je donnerai pour la vie du monde.

⁵¹אנכי הלחם החי הירד מן השמים איש כי יאכל מן הלחם הזה יחיה לעולם והלחם אשר אתננו הוא בשרי אשר אני נתן בעד חיי העולם׃

⁵²The Jews therefore strove one with another, saying, How can this man give us his flesh to eat?

⁵²Là-dessus, les Juifs disputaient entre eux, disant: Comment peut-il nous donner sa chair à manger?

⁵²ויתוכחו היהודים איש עם רעהו לאמר איכה יוכל זה לתת לנו את בשרו לאכל׃

⁵³Jesus therefore said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except ye eat the flesh of the Son of man and drink his blood, ye have not life in yourselves.

⁵³Jésus leur dit: En vérité, en vérité, je vous le dis, si vous ne mangez la chair du Fils de l'homme, et si vous ne buvez son sang, vous n'avez point la vie en vous-mêmes.

⁵³ויאמר אליהם ישוע אמן אמן אני אמר לכם אם לא תאכלו את בשר בן האדם ושתיתם את דמו אין לכם חיים בקרבכם׃

⁵⁴He that eateth my flesh and drinketh my blood hath eternal life: and I will raise him up at the last day.

⁵⁴Celui qui mange ma chair et qui boit mon sang a la vie éternelle; et je le ressusciterai au dernier jour.

⁵⁴האכל את בשרי והשתה את דמי יש לו חיי עולמים ואני אקימנו ביום האחרון׃

⁵⁵For my flesh is meat indeed, and my blood is drink indeed.

⁵⁵Car ma chair est vraiment une nourriture, et mon sang est vraiment un breuvage.

⁵⁵כי בשרי באמת הוא מאכל ודמי באמת הוא משקה׃

⁵⁶He that eateth my flesh and drinketh my blood abideth in me, and I in him.

⁵⁶Celui qui mange ma chair et qui boit mon sang demeure en moi, et je demeure en lui.

⁵⁶האכל את בשרי ושתה את דמי הוא ילין בי ואני בו׃

⁵⁷As the living Father sent me, and I live because of the Father; so he that eateth me, he also shall live because of me.

⁵⁷Comme le Père qui est vivant m'a envoyé, et que je vis par le Père, ainsi celui qui me mange vivra par moi.

⁵⁷כאשר שלחני האב החי ואנכי חי בגלל אבי כן האכל אתי גם הוא יחיה בגללי׃

⁵⁸This is the bread which came down out of heaven: not as the fathers ate, and died; he that eateth this bread shall live for ever.

⁵⁸C'est ici le pain qui est descendu du ciel. Il n'en est pas comme de vos pères qui ont mangé la manne et qui sont morts: celui qui mange ce pain vivra éternellement.

⁵⁸זה הוא הלחם הירד מן השמים לא כאשר אכלו אבותיכם את המן וימתו האכל את הלחם הזה יחיה לעולם׃

⁵⁹These things said he in the synagogue, as he taught in Capernaum.

⁵⁹Jésus dit ces choses dans la synagogue, enseignant à Capernaüm.

⁵⁹כזאת דבר בבית הכנסת בלמדו בכפר נחום׃

⁶⁰Many therefore of his disciples, when the heard [this], said, This is a hard saying; who can hear it?

⁶⁰Plusieurs de ses disciples, après l'avoir entendu, dirent: Cette parole est dure; qui peut l'écouter?

⁶⁰ורבים מתלמידיו כשמעם אמרו קשה הדבר הזה מי יוכל לשמע אתו׃

⁶¹But Jesus knowing in himself that his disciples murmured at this, said unto them, Doth this cause you to stumble?

⁶¹Jésus, sachant en lui-même que ses disciples murmuraient à ce sujet, leur dit: Cela vous scandalise-t-il?

⁶¹ויבן ישוע בלבו כי תלמידיו מלינים על זאת ויאמר אליהם הזאת לכם למכשול׃

⁶²[What] then if ye should behold the Son of man ascending where he was before?

⁶²Et si vous voyez le Fils de l'homme monter où il était auparavant?...

⁶²מה אפוא אם תראו את בן האדם עלה אל אשר היה שם לפנים׃

⁶³It is the spirit that giveth life; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I have spoken unto you are spirit, are are life.

⁶³C'est l'esprit qui vivifie; la chair ne sert de rien. Les paroles que je vous ai dites sont esprit et vie.

⁶³הרוח הוא הנתן חיים והבשר אין בו מועיל הדברים אשר אני דברתי אליכם רוח המה וחיים המה׃

⁶⁴But there are some of you that believe not. For Jesus knew from the beginning who they were that believed not, and who it was that should betray him.

⁶⁴Mais il en est parmi vous quelques-uns qui ne croient point. Car Jésus savait dès le commencement qui étaient ceux qui ne croyaient point, et qui était celui qui le livrerait.

⁶⁴אך יש מכם אשר לא יאמינו כי ישוע ידע מראש מי הם אשר אינם מאמינים ומי המוסר אתו׃

⁶⁵And he said, For this cause have I said unto you, that no man can come unto me, except it be given unto him of the Father.

⁶⁵Et il ajouta: C'est pourquoi je vous ai dit que nul ne peut venir à moi, si cela ne lui a été donné par le Père.

⁶⁵ויאמר על כן אמרתי לכם כי לא יוכל איש לבוא אלי בלתי אם נתן לו מאת אבי׃

⁶⁶Upon this many of his disciples went back, and walked no more with him.

⁶⁶Dès ce moment, plusieurs de ses disciples se retirèrent, et ils n'allaient plus avec lui.

⁶⁶מן העת הזאת רבים מתלמידיו נסגו אחור ולא יספו להתהלך אתו׃

⁶⁷Jesus said therefore unto the twelve, Would ye also go away?

⁶⁷Jésus donc dit aux douze: Et vous, ne voulez-vous pas aussi vous en aller?

⁶⁷ויאמר ישוע אל שנים העשר היש את נפשכם גם אתם לסור ממני׃

⁶⁸Simon Peter answered him, Lord, to whom shall we go? thou hast the words of eternal life.

⁶⁸Simon Pierre lui répondit: Seigneur, à qui irions-nous? Tu as les paroles de la vie éternelle.

⁶⁸ויען אתו שמעון פטרוס אדני אל מי נלך דברי חיי עולמים עמך׃

⁶⁹And we have believed and know that thou art the Holy One of God.

⁶⁹Et nous avons cru et nous avons connu que tu es le Christ, le Saint de Dieu.

⁶⁹ואנחנו האמנו ונדע כי אתה המשיח בן אל חי׃

⁷⁰Jesus answered them, Did not I choose you the twelve, and one of you is a devil?

⁷⁰Jésus leur répondit: N'est-ce pas moi qui vous ai choisis, vous les douze? Et l'un de vous est un démon!

⁷⁰ויען אתם ישוע הלא בחרתי אני בכם שנים העשר ואחד מכם שטן הוא׃

⁷¹Now he spake of Judas [the son] of Simon Iscariot, for he it was that should betray him, [being] one of the twelve.
