¹And after these things Jesus walked in Galilee: for he would not walk in Judaea, because the Jews sought to kill him.

¹Après cela, Jésus parcourait la Galilée, car il ne voulait pas séjourner en Judée, parce que les Juifs cherchaient à le faire mourir.

¹אחרי הדברים האלה הלך ישוע בארץ הגליל הלוך ועבור כי לא אבה להתהלך ביהודה על אשר בקשו היהודים להרגו׃

²Now the feast of the Jews, the feast of tabernacles, was at hand.

²Or, la fête des Juifs, la fête des Tabernacles, était proche.

²ויקרב חג היהודים הוא חג הסכות׃

³His brethren therefore said unto him, Depart hence, and go into Judaea, that thy disciples also may behold thy works which thou doest.

³Et ses frères lui dirent: Pars d'ici, et va en Judée, afin que tes disciples voient aussi les oeuvres que tu fais.

³ויאמרו אליו אחיו קום ולך מזה ארצה יהודה למען יראו גם תלמידיך את המעשים אשר אתה עשה׃

⁴For no man doeth anything in secret, and himself seeketh to be known openly. If thou doest these things, manifest thyself to the world.

⁴Personne n'agit en secret, lorsqu'il désire paraître: si tu fais ces choses, montre-toi toi-même au monde.

⁴כי לא יעשה איש דבר בסתר והוא חפץ להתפרסם לכן אם אתה עשה כאלה הגלה אל העולם׃

⁵For even his brethren did not believe on him.

⁵Car ses frères non plus ne croyaient pas en lui.

⁵כי אחיו גם הם לא האמינו בו׃

⁶Jesus therefore saith unto them, My time is not yet come; but your time is always ready.

⁶Jésus leur dit: Mon temps n'est pas encore venu, mais votre temps est toujours prêt.

⁶ויאמר אליהם ישוע עתי לא באה עד עתה ועתכם תמיד נכונה׃

⁷The world cannot hate you; but me it hateth, because I testify of it, that its works are evil.

⁷Le monde ne peut vous haïr; moi, il me hait, parce que je rends de lui le témoignage que ses oeuvres sont mauvaises.

⁷לא יוכל העולם לשנוא אתכם ואתי ישנא באשר אני מעיד עליו כי רעים מעלליו׃

⁸Go ye up unto the feast: I go not up unto this feast; because my time is not yet fulfilled.

⁸Montez, vous, à cette fête; pour moi, je n'y monte point, parce que mon temps n'est pas encore accompli.

⁸עלו אתם לחג את החג אני לא אעלה אל החג הזה כי עתי לא מלאה עד עתה׃

⁹And having said these things unto them, he abode [still] in Galilee.

⁹Après leur avoir dit cela, il resta en Galilée.

⁹כזאת דבר וישב בגליל׃

¹⁰But when his brethren were gone up unto the feast, then went he also up, not publicly, but as it were in secret.

¹⁰Lorsque ses frères furent montés à la fête, il y monta aussi lui-même, non publiquement, mais comme en secret.

¹⁰ויהי כאשר עלו אחיו לרגל ויעל גם הוא לא בגלוי כי אם כמסתתר׃

¹¹The Jews therefore sought him at the feast, and said, Where is he?

¹¹Les Juifs le cherchaient pendant la fête, et disaient: Où est-il?

¹¹והיהודים בקשהו בחג ויאמרו איה הוא׃

¹²And there was much murmuring among the multitudes concerning him: some said, He is a good man; others said, Not so, but he leadeth the multitude astray.

¹²Il y avait dans la foule grande rumeur à son sujet. Les uns disaient: C'est un homme de bien. D'autres disaient: Non, il égare la multitude.

¹²ותהי תלונה רבה על אדותיו בתוך העם אלה אמרו טוב הוא ואלה אמרו לא כי מתעה הוא את העם׃

¹³Yet no man spake openly of him for fear of the Jews.

¹³Personne, toutefois, ne parlait librement de lui, par crainte des Juifs.

¹³אך אין איש מדבר עליו בגלוי מפני יראת היהודים׃

¹⁴But when it was now the midst of the feast Jesus went up into the temple, and taught.

¹⁴Vers le milieu de la fête, Jésus monta au temple. Et il enseignait.

¹⁴ויהי בחצי ימי החג עלה ישוע אל המקדש וילמד׃

¹⁵The Jews therefore marvelled, saying, How knoweth this man letters, having never learned?

¹⁵Les Juifs s'étonnaient, disant: Comment connaît-il les Ecritures, lui qui n'a point étudié?

¹⁵ויתמהו היהודים ויאמרו איך ידע זה ספר והוא לא למד׃

¹⁶Jesus therefore answered them and said, My teaching is not mine, but his that sent me.

¹⁶Jésus leur répondit: Ma doctrine n'est pas de moi, mais de celui qui m'a envoyé.

¹⁶ויען אתם ישוע ויאמר לקחי לא שלי הוא כי אם לאשר שלחני׃

¹⁷If any man willeth to do his will, he shall know of the teaching, whether it is of God, or [whether] I speak from myself.

¹⁷Si quelqu'un veut faire sa volonté, il connaîtra si ma doctrine est de Dieu, ou si je parle de mon chef.

¹⁷האיש החפץ לעשות רצונו ידע לקחי אם מאת אלהים הוא ואם מנפשי אדבר׃

¹⁸He that speaketh from himself seeketh his own glory: but he that seeketh the glory of him that sent him, the same is true, and no unrighteousness is in him.

¹⁸Celui qui parle de son chef cherche sa propre gloire; mais celui qui cherche la gloire de celui qui l'a envoyé, celui-là est vrai, et il n'y a point d'injustice en lui.

¹⁸המדבר מנפשי כבוד עצמו יבקש אבל המבקש כבוד שלחו נאמן הוא ואין עולתה בו׃

¹⁹Did not Moses give you the law, and [yet] none of you doeth the law? Why seek ye to kill me?

¹⁹Moïse ne vous a-t-il pas donné la loi? Et nul de vous n'observe la loi. Pourquoi cherchez-vous à me faire mourir?

¹⁹הלא משה נתן לכם את התורה ואין איש מכם עשה התורה מדוע תבקשו להרגני׃

²⁰The multitude answered, Thou hast a demon: who seeketh to kill thee?

²⁰La foule répondit: Tu as un démon. Qui est-ce qui cherche à te faire mourir?

²⁰ויען העם ויאמר שד בקרבך מי מבקש להרגך׃

²¹Jesus answered and said unto them, I did one work, and ye all marvel because thereof.

²¹Jésus leur répondit: J'ai fait une oeuvre, et vous en êtes tous étonnés.

²¹ויען ישוע ויאמר להם פעלה אחת פעלתי וכלכם עליה תתמהו׃

²²Moses hath given you circumcision (not that it is of Moses, but of the fathers); and on the sabbath ye circumcise a man.

²²Moïse vous a donné la circoncision, -non qu'elle vienne de Moïse, car elle vient des patriarches, -et vous circoncisez un homme le jour du sabbat.

²²משה נתן לכם המילה אך לא ממשה היא כי אם מן האבות וביום השבת תמולו כל זכר׃

²³If a man receiveth circumcision on the sabbath, that the law of Moses may not be broken; are ye wroth with me, because I made a man every whit whole on the sabbath?

²³Si un homme reçoit la circoncision le jour du sabbat, afin que la loi de Moïse ne soit pas violée, pourquoi vous irritez-vous contre moi de ce que j'ai guéri un homme tout entier le jour du sabbat?

²³ועתה אם ימול זכר בשבת למען אשר לא תופר תורת משה מה תקצפו עלי כי רפאתי איש כלו בשבת׃

²⁴Judge not according to appearance, but judge righteous judgment.

²⁴Ne jugez pas selon l'apparence, mais jugez selon la justice.

²⁴אל תשפטו למראה עין כי אם משפט צדק שפטו׃

²⁵Some therefore of them of Jerusalem said, Is not this he whom they seek to kill?

²⁵Quelques habitants de Jérusalem disaient: N'est-ce pas là celui qu'ils cherchent à faire mourir?

²⁵ויאמרו אנשים מישבי ירושלים הלא זה הוא אשר בקשו להמיתו׃

²⁶And lo, he speaketh openly, and they say nothing unto him. Can it be that the rulers indeed know that this is the Christ?

²⁶Et voici, il parle librement, et ils ne lui disent rien! Est-ce que vraiment les chefs auraient reconnu qu'il est le Christ?

²⁶והנה הוא דבר בגלוי ולא יגערו בו האף אמנם ידעו ראשינו כי באמת זה הוא המשיח׃

²⁷Howbeit we know this man whence he is: but when the Christ cometh, no one knoweth whence he is.

²⁷Cependant celui-ci, nous savons d'où il est; mais le Christ, quand il viendra, personne ne saura d'où il est.

²⁷אך את זה ידענו מאין הוא וכאשר יבוא המשיח לא ידע איש אי מזה הוא׃

²⁸Jesus therefore cried in the temple, teaching and saying, Ye both know me, and know whence I am; and I am not come of myself, but he that sent me is true, whom ye know not.

²⁸Et Jésus, enseignant dans le temple, s'écria: Vous me connaissez, et vous savez d'où je suis! Je ne suis pas venu de moi-même: mais celui qui m'a envoyé est vrai, et vous ne le connaissez pas.

²⁸אז קרא ישוע במקדש וילמד לאמר הן ידעתם אתי אף ידעתם מאין אני ומנפשי לא באתי אכן יש אמתי אשר שלחני ואתו לא ידעתם׃

²⁹I know him; because I am from him, and he sent me.

²⁹Moi, je le connais; car je viens de lui, et c'est lui qui m'a envoyé.

²⁹ואני ידעתיו כי מאתו אני והוא שלחני׃

³⁰They sought therefore to take him: and no man laid his hand on him, because his hour was not yet come.

³⁰Ils cherchaient donc à se saisir de lui, et personne ne mit la main sur lui, parce que son heure n'était pas encore venue.

³⁰ויבקשו לתפשו ואיש לא שלח בו יד כי לא בא עתו׃

³¹But of the multitude many believed on him; and they said, When the Christ shall come, will he do more signs than those which this man hath done?

³¹Plusieurs parmi la foule crurent en lui, et ils disaient: Le Christ, quand il viendra, fera-t-il plus de miracles que n'en a fait celui-ci?

³¹ורבים מן העם האמינו בו ויאמרו אם יבא המשיח הגם יעשה אתות רבות מאשר עשה זה׃

³²The Pharisees heard the multitude murmuring these things concerning him; and the chief priests and the Pharisees sent officers to take him.

³²Les pharisiens entendirent la foule murmurant de lui ces choses. Alors les principaux sacrificateurs et les pharisiens envoyèrent des huissiers pour le saisir.

³²והפרושים שמעו את העם מתלחשים עליו כזאת וישלחו הפרושים וראשי הכהנים משרתים לתפשו׃

³³Jesus therefore said, Yet a little while am I with you, and I go unto him that sent me.

³³Jésus dit: Je suis encore avec vous pour un peu de temps, puis je m'en vais vers celui qui m'a envoyé.

³³ויאמר אליהם ישוע אך למצער עודני עמכם והלכתי אל אשר שלחני׃

³⁴Ye shall seek me, and shall not find me: and where I am, ye cannot come.

³⁴Vous me chercherez et vous ne me trouverez pas, et vous ne pouvez venir où je serai.

³⁴תשחרנני ולא תמצאנני ובאשר אני שם אתם לא תוכלו לבוא׃

³⁵The Jews therefore said among themselves, Whither will this man go that we shall not find him? will he go unto the Dispersion among the Greeks, and teach the Greeks?

³⁵Sur quoi les Juifs dirent entre eux: Où ira-t-il, que nous ne le trouvions pas? Ira-t-il parmi ceux qui sont dispersés chez les Grecs, et enseignera-t-il les Grecs?

³⁵ויאמרו היהודים איש רעהו אנה ילך זה ואנחנו לא נמצאהו הכי ילך אל הנפוצים בין היונים וילמד אנשי יון׃

³⁶What is this word that he said, Ye shall seek me, and shall not find me; and where I am, ye cannot come?

³⁶Que signifie cette parole qu'il a dite: Vous me chercherez et vous ne me trouverez pas, et vous ne pouvez venir où je serai?

³⁶מה זה הדבר אשר אמר תשחרנני ולא תמצאנני ובאשר אני שם אתם לא תוכלו לבוא׃

³⁷Now on the last day, the great [day] of the feast, Jesus stood and cried, saying, If any man thirst, let him come unto me and drink.

³⁷Le dernier jour, le grand jour de la fête, Jésus, se tenant debout, s'écria: Si quelqu'un a soif, qu'il vienne à moi, et qu'il boive.

³⁷ויהי ביום החג האחרון הגדול עמד ישוע ויקרא לאמר איש כי יצמא יבא נא אלי וישתה׃

³⁸He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, from within him shall flow rivers of living water.

³⁸Celui qui croit en moi, des fleuves d'eau vive couleront de son sein, comme dit l'Ecriture.

³⁸המאמין בי כדבר הכתוב מבטנו ינהרו נהרי מים חיים׃

³⁹But this spake he of the Spirit, which they that believed on him were to receive: for the Spirit was not yet [given]; because Jesus was not yet glorified.

³⁹Il dit cela de l'Esprit que devaient recevoir ceux qui croiraient en lui; car l'Esprit n'était pas encore, parce que Jésus n'avait pas encore été glorifié.

³⁹וזאת אמר על הרוח אשר יקחהו המאמינים בו כי לא נתן רוח הקדש עדנה יען אשר ישוע עוד לא נתפאר׃

⁴⁰[Some] of the multitude therefore, when they heard these words, said, This is of a truth the prophet.

⁴⁰Des gens de la foule, ayant entendu ces paroles, disaient: Celui-ci est vraiment le prophète.

⁴⁰ורבים מהמון העם כשמעם את הדבר הזה אמרו אכן זה הוא הנביא׃

⁴¹Others said, This is the Christ. But some said, What, doth the Christ come out of Galilee?

⁴¹D'autres disaient: C'est le Christ. Et d'autres disaient: Est-ce bien de la Galilée que doit venir le Christ?

⁴¹ויש אשר אמרו זה הוא המשיח ואחרים אמרו המן הגליל יבא המשיח׃

⁴²Hath not the scripture said that the Christ cometh of the seed of David, and from Bethlehem, the village where David was?

⁴²L'Ecriture ne dit-elle pas que c'est de la postérité de David, et du village de Bethléhem, où était David, que le Christ doit venir?

⁴²הלא הכתוב אמר כי מזרע דוד ומכפר בית לחם מקום דוד יצא המשיח׃

⁴³So there arose a division in the multitude because of him.

⁴³Il y eut donc, à cause de lui, division parmi la foule.

⁴³ותהי מחלקת בתוך העם על אדותיו׃

⁴⁴And some of them would have taken him; but no man laid hands on him.

⁴⁴Quelques-uns d'entre eux voulaient le saisir, mais personne ne mit la main sur lui.

⁴⁴ומקצתם רצו לתפשו ואיש לא שלח בו יד׃

⁴⁵The officers therefore came to the chief priests and Pharisees; and they said unto them, Why did ye not bring him?

⁴⁵Ainsi les huissiers retournèrent vers les principaux sacrificateurs et les pharisiens. Et ceux-ci leur dirent: Pourquoi ne l'avez-vous pas amené?

⁴⁵וישובו המשרתים אל הכהנים הגדולים והפרושים והמה אמרו אליהם מדוע לא הבאתם אתו׃

⁴⁶The officers answered, Never man so spake.

⁴⁶Les huissiers répondirent: Jamais homme n'a parlé comme cet homme.

⁴⁶ויענו העבדים מעולם לא דבר איש כאיש הזה׃

⁴⁷The Pharisees therefore answered them, Are ye also led astray?

⁴⁷Les pharisiens leur répliquèrent: Est-ce que vous aussi, vous avez été séduits?

⁴⁷ויאמרו אליהם הפרושים הכי נדהתם גם אתם׃

⁴⁸Hath any of the rulers believed on him, or of the Pharisees?

⁴⁸Y a-t-il quelqu'un des chefs ou des pharisiens qui ait cru en lui?

⁴⁸הגם האמין בו איש מן השרים או מן הפרושים׃

⁴⁹But this multitude that knoweth not the law are accursed.

⁴⁹Mais cette foule qui ne connaît pas la loi, ce sont des maudits!

⁴⁹רק ההמון הזה אשר אינם ידעים את התורה ארורים המה׃

⁵⁰Nicodemus saith unto them (he that came to him before, being one of them),

⁵⁰Nicodème, qui était venu de nuit vers Jésus, et qui était l'un d'entre eux, leur dit:

⁵⁰ויאמר אליהם נקדימון אשר בא אליו בלילה והוא היה אחד מהם׃

⁵¹Doth our law judge a man, except it first hear from himself and know what he doeth?

⁵¹Notre loi condamne-t-elle un homme avant qu'on l'entende et qu'on sache ce qu'il a fait?

⁵¹התשפט תורתנו איש בטרם תחקרהו לדעת את אשר עשה׃

⁵²They answered and said unto him, Art thou also of Galilee? Search, and see that out of Galilee ariseth no prophet.

⁵²Ils lui répondirent: Es-tu aussi Galiléen? Examine, et tu verras que de la Galilée il ne sort point de prophète.

⁵²ויענו ויאמרו אליו הגם אתה מן הגליל דרש נא וראה כי לא קם נביא מן הגליל׃

⁵³And they went every man unto his own house:

⁵³Et chacun s'en retourna dans sa maison.

⁵³וילכו איש איש לביתו׃
