¹but Jesus went unto the mount of Olives.

²And early in the morning he came again into the temple, and all the people came unto him; and he sat down, and taught them.

²Mais, dès le matin, il alla de nouveau dans le temple, et tout le peuple vint à lui. S'étant assis, il les enseignait.

²ויהי בבקר ויבא עוד אל המקדש וכל העם באו אליו וישב וילמדם׃

³And the scribes and the Pharisees bring a woman taken in adultery; and having set her in the midst,

³Alors les scribes et les pharisiens amenèrent une femme surprise en adultère; et, la plaçant au milieu du peuple,

³ויביאו הסופרים והפרושים אשה לפניו אשר נתפשה בשטותה ויעמידוה בתוך׃

⁴they say unto him, Teacher, this woman hath been taken in adultery, in the very act.

⁴ils dirent à Jésus: Maître, cette femme a été surprise en flagrant délit d'adultère.

⁴ויאמרו אליו רבי האשה הזאת נתפשה כשנטמאת בנאופיה׃

⁵Now in the law Moses commanded us to stone such: what then sayest thou of her?

⁵Moïse, dans la loi, nous a ordonné de lapider de telles femmes: toi donc, que dis-tu?

⁵ומשה צונו בתורה לסקל נשים כאלה ואתה מה תאמר׃

⁶And this they said, trying him, that they might have [whereof] to accuse him. But Jesus stooped down, and with his finger wrote on the ground.

⁶Ils disaient cela pour l'éprouver, afin de pouvoir l'accuser. Mais Jésus, s'étant baissé, écrivait avec le doigt sur la terre.

⁶ואך לנסות אתו דברו זאת למצא עליו שטנה ויכף ישוע למטה ויתו באצבעו על הקרקע׃

⁷But when they continued asking him, he lifted up himself, and said unto them, He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her.

⁷Comme ils continuaient à l'interroger, il se releva et leur dit: Que celui de vous qui est sans péché jette le premier la pierre contre elle.

⁷ויהי כאשר הוסיפו לשאל אתו וישא את עיניו ויאמר אליהם מי בכם זך בלי פשע הוא ראשונה ידה בה אבן׃

⁸And again he stooped down, and with his finger wrote on the ground.

⁸Et s'étant de nouveau baissé, il écrivait sur la terre.

⁸ויכף שנית למטה ויתו על הקרקע׃

⁹And they, when they heard it, went out one by one, beginning from the eldest, [even] unto the last: and Jesus was left alone, and the woman, where she was, in the midst.

⁹Quand ils entendirent cela, accusés par leur conscience, ils se retirèrent un à un, depuis les plus âgés jusqu'aux derniers; et Jésus resta seul avec la femme qui était là au milieu.

⁹ויהי כשמעם ויך לבם אתם ויצאו אחד אחד החוצה החל מן הזקנים ועד האחרונים ויותר ישוע לבדו והאשה נצבת בתוך׃

¹⁰And Jesus lifted up himself, and said unto her, Woman, where are they? did no man condemn thee?

¹⁰Alors s'étant relevé, et ne voyant plus que la femme, Jésus lui dit: Femme, où sont ceux qui t'accusaient? Personne ne t'a-t-il condamnée?

¹⁰וישא ישוע את עיניו וירא כי אין איש בלתי האשה לבדה ויאמר אליה אשה איפה שטניך הכי הרשיעך איש׃

¹¹And she said, No man, Lord. And Jesus said, Neither do I condemn thee: go thy way; from henceforth sin no more.

¹¹Elle répondit: Non, Seigneur. Et Jésus lui dit: Je ne te condamne pas non plus: va, et ne pèche plus.

¹¹ותאמר לא אדני ויאמר לכן גם אני לא ארשיעך לכי לדרכך ואל תחטאי עוד׃

¹²Again therefore Jesus spake unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in the darkness, but shall have the light of life.

¹²Jésus leur parla de nouveau, et dit: Je suis la lumière du monde; celui qui me suit ne marchera pas dans les ténèbres, mais il aura la lumière de la vie.

¹²ויסף ישוע וידבר אליהם לאמר אני אור העולם כל ההלך אחרי לא יתהלך בחשכה כי אור החיים יהיה לו׃

¹³The Pharisees therefore said unto him, Thou bearest witness of thyself; thy witness is not true.

¹³Là-dessus, les pharisiens lui dirent: Tu rends témoignage de toi-même; ton témoignage n'est pas vrai.

¹³ויאמרו הפרושים על נשפך מעיד אתה עדותך איננה נאמנה׃

¹⁴Jesus answered and said unto them, Even if I bear witness of myself, my witness is true; for I know whence I came, and whither I go; but ye know not whence I come, or whither I go.

¹⁴Jésus leur répondit: Quoique je rende témoignage de moi-même, mon témoignage est vrai, car je sais d'où je suis venu et où je vais; mais vous, vous ne savez d'où je viens ni où je vais.

¹⁴ויען ישוע ויאמר אליהם אף אם אעיד על נפשי עדותי נאמנה יען כי ידעתי מאין באתי ואנה אני הלך ואתם לא ידעתם מאין באתי ואנה אלך׃

¹⁵Ye judge after the flesh; I judge no man.

¹⁵Vous jugez selon la chair; moi, je ne juge personne.

¹⁵אתם לפי הבשר תשפטו ואני לא אשפט איש׃

¹⁶Yea and if I judge, my judgment is true; for I am not alone, but I and the Father that sent me.

¹⁶Et si je juge, mon jugement est vrai, car je ne suis pas seul; mais le Père qui m'a envoyé est avec moi.

¹⁶ואם אנכי אשפט משפטי אמת כי לא לבדי הנני כי אם אני והאב אשר שלחני׃

¹⁷Yea and in your law it is written, that the witness of two men is true.

¹⁷Il est écrit dans votre loi que le témoignage de deux hommes est vrai;

¹⁷וגם בתורתכם כתוב כי עדות שני אנשים נאמנה היא׃

¹⁸I am he that beareth witness of myself, and the Father that sent me beareth witness of me.

¹⁸je rends témoignage de moi-même, et le Père qui m'a envoyé rend témoignage de moi.

¹⁸אני הוא המעיד עלי וגם האב אשר שלחני יעידני׃

¹⁹They said therefore unto him, Where is thy Father? Jesus answered, Ye know neither me, nor my Father: if ye knew me, ye would know my Father also.

¹⁹Ils lui dirent donc: Où est ton Père? Jésus répondit: Vous ne connaissez ni moi, ni mon Père. Si vous me connaissiez, vous connaîtriez aussi mon Père.

¹⁹ויאמרו אליו איו אביך ויען ישוע גם אתי גם את אבי לא ידעתם אלו אתי ידעתם כי עתה גם את אבי ידעתם׃

²⁰These words spake he in the treasury, as he taught in the temple: and no man took him; because his hour was not yet come.

²⁰Jésus dit ces paroles, enseignant dans le temple, au lieu où était le trésor; et personne ne le saisit, parce que son heure n'était pas encore venue.

²⁰כדברים האלה דבר בבית האוצר בלמדו במקדש ולא תפשו איש כי לא בא עתו׃

²¹He said therefore again unto them, I go away, and ye shall seek me, and shall die in your sin: whither I go, ye cannot come.

²¹Jésus leur dit encore: Je m'en vais, et vous me chercherez, et vous mourrez dans votre péché; vous ne pouvez venir où je vais.

²¹ויוסף ישוע ויאמר אליהם אני הלך מזה ותבקשוני ובחטאתכם תמותו אל אשר אני הלך שמה אתם לא תוכלו לבוא׃

²²The Jews therefore said, Will he kill himself, that he saith, Whither I go, ye cannot come?

²²Sur quoi les Juifs dirent: Se tuera-t-il lui-même, puisqu'il dit: Vous ne pouvez venir où je vais?

²²ויאמרו היהודים ההמת ימית את נפשו כי אמר אל אשר אני הולך שמה אתם לא תוכלו לבוא׃

²³And he said unto them, Ye are from beneath; I am from above: ye are of this world; I am not of this world.

²³Et il leur dit: Vous êtes d'en bas; moi, je suis d'en haut. Vous êtes de ce monde; moi, je ne suis pas de ce monde.

²³ויאמר אליהם אתם הנכם מן התחתונים ואני מן העליונים אתם מן העולם הזה ואני אינני מן העולם הזה׃

²⁴I said therefore unto you, that ye shall die in your sins: for except ye believe that I am [he], ye shall die in your sins.

²⁴C'est pourquoi je vous ai dit que vous mourrez dans vos péchés; car si vous ne croyez pas ce que je suis, vous mourrez dans vos péchés.

²⁴לכן אמרתי אליכם כי תמותו בחטאיכם כי אם לא תאמינו כי אני הוא בחטאיכם תמותו׃

²⁵They said therefore unto him, Who art thou? Jesus said unto them, Even that which I have also spoken unto you from the beginning.

²⁵Qui es-tu? lui dirent-ils. Jésus leur répondit: Ce que je vous dis dès le commencement.

²⁵ויאמרו אליו מי זה אתה ויאמר אליהם ישוע מה שגם מראש דברתי אליכם׃

²⁶I have many things to speak and to judge concerning you: howbeit he that sent me is true; and the things which I heard from him, these speak I unto the world.

²⁶J'ai beaucoup de choses à dire de vous et à juger en vous; mais celui qui m'a envoyé est vrai, et ce que j'ai entendu de lui, je le dis au monde.

²⁶רבות עמי לדבר ולשפט עליכם אכן שלחי נאמן הוא ואשר שמעתי ממנו אתו אני מדבר אל העולם׃

²⁷They perceived not that he spake to them of the Father.

²⁷Ils ne comprirent point qu'il leur parlait du Père.

²⁷והם לא התבוננו כי על האב אמר אליהם׃

²⁸Jesus therefore said, When ye have lifted up the Son of man, then shall ye know that I am [he], and [that] I do nothing of myself, but as the Father taught me, I speak these things.

²⁸Jésus donc leur dit: Quand vous aurez élevé le Fils de l'homme, alors vous connaîtrez ce que je suis, et que je ne fais rien de moi-même, mais que je parle selon ce que le Père m'a enseigné.

²⁸אז אמר להם ישוע בעת תנשאו את בן האדם וידעתם כי אני הוא וכי אינני עשה דבר מנפשי כי אם כאשר למדני אבי אלה אדבר׃

²⁹And he that sent me is with me; he hath not left me alone; for I do always the things that are pleasing to him.

²⁹Celui qui m'a envoyé est avec moi; il ne m'a pas laissé seul, parce que je fais toujours ce qui lui est agréable.

²⁹ואשר שלח אתי הוא עמדי האב לא עזבני לבדד כי את הטוב בעיניו אני עשה תמיד׃

³⁰As he spake these things, many believed on him.

³⁰Comme Jésus parlait ainsi, plusieurs crurent en lui.

³⁰ויהי בדברו זאת ויאמינו בו רבים׃

³¹Jesus therefore said to those Jews that had believed him, If ye abide in my word, [then] are ye truly my disciples;

³¹Et il dit aux Juifs qui avaient cru en lui: Si vous demeurez dans ma parole, vous êtes vraiment mes disciples;

³¹ויאמר ישוע אל היהודים המאמינים בו אם תעמדו בדברי באמת תלמידי אתם׃

³²and ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.

³²vous connaîtrez la vérité, et la vérité vous affranchira.

³²וידעתם את האמת והאמת תשימכם לבני חורין׃

³³They answered unto him, We are Abraham's seed, and have never yet been in bondage to any man: how sayest thou, Ye shall be made free?

³³Ils lui répondirent: Nous sommes la postérité d'Abraham, et nous ne fûmes jamais esclaves de personne; comment dis-tu: Vous deviendrez libres?

³³ויענו אתו זרע אברהם נחנו ומעולם לא היינו לאיש לעבדים איכה תאמר בני חורין תהיו׃

³⁴Jesus answered them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Every one that committeth sin is the bondservant of sin.

³⁴En vérité, en vérité, je vous le dis, leur répliqua Jésus, quiconque se livre au péché est esclave du péché.

³⁴ויען אתם ישוע אמן אמן אני אמר לכם כל עשה חטא עבד החטא הוא׃

³⁵And the bondservant abideth not in the house for ever: the son abideth for ever.

³⁵Or, l'esclave ne demeure pas toujours dans la maison; le fils y demeure toujours.

³⁵והעבד לא ישכן בבית לעולם הבן ישכן לעולם׃

³⁶If therefore the Son shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.

³⁶Si donc le Fils vous affranchit, vous serez réellement libres.

³⁶לכן אם הבן יעשה אתכם בני חורין חפשים באמת תהיו׃

³⁷I know that ye are Abraham's seed: yet ye seek to kill me, because my word hath not free course in you.

³⁷Je sais que vous êtes la postérité d'Abraham; mais vous cherchez à me faire mourir, parce que ma parole ne pénètre pas en vous.

³⁷ידעתי כי זרע אברהם אתם אבל אתם מבקשים להמיתני כי דברי לא יכן בתוככם׃

³⁸I speak the things which I have seen with [my] Father: and ye also do the things which ye heard from [your] father.

³⁸Je dis ce que j'ai vu chez mon Père; et vous, vous faites ce que vous avez entendu de la part de votre père.

³⁸אני מדבר את אשר ראיתי אצל אבי ואתם עשים את אשר ראיתם אצל אביכם׃

³⁹They answered and said unto him, Our father is Abraham. Jesus saith unto them, If ye were Abraham's children, ye would do the works of Abraham.

³⁹Ils lui répondirent: Notre père, c'est Abraham. Jésus leur dit: Si vous étiez enfants d'Abraham, vous feriez les oeuvres d'Abraham.

³⁹ויענו ויאמרו אליו אבינו הוא אברהם ויאמר אליהם ישוע אלו הייתם בני אברהם כמעשי אברהם עשיתם׃

⁴⁰But now ye seek to kill me, a man that hath told you the truth, which I heard from God: this did not Abraham.

⁴⁰Mais maintenant vous cherchez à me faire mourir, moi qui vous ai dit la vérité que j'ai entendue de Dieu. Cela, Abraham ne l'a point fait.

⁴⁰ועתה אתם מבקשים להמיתני איש דבר אליכם האמת אשר שמעתי מעם האלהים אברהם לא עשה כזאת׃

⁴¹Ye do the works of your father. They said unto him, We were not born of fornication; we have one Father, [even] God.

⁴¹Vous faites les oeuvres de votre père. Ils lui dirent: Nous ne sommes pas des enfants illégitimes; nous avons un seul Père, Dieu.

⁴¹את מעשי אביכם אתם עשים ויאמרו אליו לא ילדי זנונים אנחנו יש לנו אב אחד הוא האלהים׃

⁴²Jesus said unto them, If God were your Father, ye would love me: for I came forth and am come from God; for neither have I come of myself, but he sent me.

⁴²Jésus leur dit: Si Dieu était votre Père, vous m'aimeriez, car c'est de Dieu que je suis sorti et que je viens; je ne suis pas venu de moi-même, mais c'est lui qui m'a envoyé.

⁴²ויאמר אליהם ישוע אלו אלהים הוא אביכם כי עתה אהבתם אתי כי אנכי יצאתי ובאתי מאת האלהים הן לא ממני באתי אך הוא שלחני׃

⁴³Why do ye not understand my speech? [Even] because ye cannot hear my word.

⁴³Pourquoi ne comprenez-vous pas mon langage? Parce que vous ne pouvez écouter ma parole.

⁴³מדוע לא תבינו לשוני יען לא תוכלון לשמע את דברי׃

⁴⁴Ye are of [your] father the devil, and the lusts of your father it is your will to do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and standeth not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father thereof.

⁴⁴Vous avez pour père le diable, et vous voulez accomplir les désirs de votre père. Il a été meurtrier dès le commencement, et il ne se tient pas dans la vérité, parce qu'il n'y a pas de vérité en lui. Lorsqu'il profère le mensonge, il parle de son propre fonds; car il est menteur et le père du mensonge.

⁴⁴אתם מן אביכם השטן ולעשות את תאות אביכם חפצתם הוא רוצח נפש היה מראש ובאמת לא עמד כי אמת אין בו מדי דברי כזב משלו ידבר כי כזב הוא ואבי הכזב׃

⁴⁵But because I say the truth, ye believe me not.

⁴⁵Et moi, parce que je dis la vérité, vous ne me croyez pas.

⁴⁵ואני יען דברי האמת לא תאמינו לי׃

⁴⁶Which of you convicteth me of sin? If I say truth, why do ye not believe me?

⁴⁶Qui de vous me convaincra de péché? Si je dis la vérité, pourquoi ne me croyez-vous pas?

⁴⁶מי בכם על עון יוכיחני ואם אמת דברתי מדוע לא תאמינו לי׃

⁴⁷He that is of God heareth the words of God: for this cause ye hear [them] not, because ye are not of God.

⁴⁷Celui qui est de Dieu, écoute les paroles de Dieu; vous n'écoutez pas, parce que vous n'êtes pas de Dieu.

⁴⁷אשר מאת האלהים הוא ישמע את דברי האלהים על כן אתם לא שמעתם כי אינכם מאת האלהים׃

⁴⁸The Jews answered and said unto him, Say we not well that thou art a Samaritan, and hast a demon?

⁴⁸Les Juifs lui répondirent: N'avons-nous pas raison de dire que tu es un Samaritain, et que tu as un démon?

⁴⁸אז יענו היהודים ויאמרו אליו הלא הטבנו אשר דברנו כי שמרוני אתה ושד בך׃

⁴⁹Jesus answered, I have not a demon; but I honor my Father, and ye dishonor me.

⁴⁹Jésus répliqua: Je n'ai point de démon; mais j'honore mon Père, et vous m'outragez.

⁴⁹ויען ישוע שד אין בי רק את אבי אני מכבד ואתם תבזוני׃

⁵⁰But I seek not mine own glory: there is one that seeketh and judgeth.

⁵⁰Je ne cherche point ma gloire; il en est un qui la cherche et qui juge.

⁵⁰אכן לא אבקש את כבודי יש אחד אשר יבקש וישפט׃

⁵¹Verily, verily, I say unto you, If a man keep my word, he shall never see death.

⁵¹En vérité, en vérité, je vous le dis, si quelqu'un garde ma parole, il ne verra jamais la mort.

⁵¹אמן אמן אני אמר לכם אם ישמר איש את דברי לא יראה מות לנצח׃

⁵²The Jews said unto him, Now we know that thou hast a demon. Abraham died, and the prophets; and thou sayest, If a man keep my word, he shall never taste of death.

⁵²Maintenant, lui dirent les Juifs, nous connaissons que tu as un démon. Abraham est mort, les prophètes aussi, et tu dis: Si quelqu'un garde ma parole, il ne verra jamais la mort.

⁵²ויאמרו אליו היהודים עתה ידענו כי שד בך הן אברהם והנביאים מתו ואתה אמרת אם ישמר איש את דברי לא יטעם מות לנצח׃

⁵³Art thou greater than our father Abraham, who died? and the prophets died: whom makest thou thyself?

⁵³Es-tu plus grand que notre père Abraham, qui est mort? Les prophètes aussi sont morts. Qui prétends-tu être?

⁵³האתה גדול מאברהם אבינו אשר מת גם הנביאים מתו מה תעשה את עצמך׃

⁵⁴Jesus answered, If I glorify myself, my glory is nothing: it is my Father that glorifieth me; of whom ye say, that he is your God;

⁵⁴Jésus répondit: Si je me glorifie moi-même, ma gloire n'est rien. C'est mon Père qui me glorifie, lui que vous dites être votre Dieu,

⁵⁴ויען ישוע אם אני מכבד את נפשי כבודי מאין אבי הוא המכבד אתי אשר תאמרו עליו כי הוא אלהיכם׃

⁵⁵and ye have not known him: but I know him; and if I should say, I know him not, I shall be like unto you, a liar: but I know him, and keep his word.

⁵⁵et que vous ne connaissez pas. Pour moi, je le connais; et, si je disais que je ne le connais pas, je serais semblable à vous, un menteur. Mais je le connais, et je garde sa parole.

⁵⁵ולא ידעתם אתו ואני ידעתיו ואם אמר לא ידעתי אתו אהיה כזב כמוכם אבל ידעתיו ואת דברו שמרתי׃

⁵⁶Your father Abraham rejoiced to see my day; and he saw it, and was glad.

⁵⁶Abraham, votre père, a tressailli de joie de ce qu'il verrait mon jour: il l'a vu, et il s'est réjoui.

⁵⁶אברהם אביכם שש לראות את יומי וירא וישמח׃

⁵⁷The Jews therefore said unto him, Thou art not yet fifty years old, and hast thou seen Abraham?

⁵⁷Les Juifs lui dirent: Tu n'as pas encore cinquante ans, et tu as vu Abraham!

⁵⁷ויאמרו אליו היהודים הנה אינך בן חמשים שנה ואת אברהם ראית׃

⁵⁸Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Before Abraham was born, I am.

⁵⁸Jésus leur dit: En vérité, en vérité, je vous le dis, avant qu'Abraham fût, je suis.

⁵⁸ויאמר אליהם ישוע אמן אמן אני אמר לכם בטרם היות אברהם אני הוא׃

⁵⁹They took up stones therefore to cast at him: but Jesus hid himself, and went out of the temple.

⁵⁹Là-dessus, ils prirent des pierres pour les jeter contre lui; mais Jésus se cacha, et il sortit du temple.

⁵⁹אז ירימו אבנים לרגם אתו וישוע התעלם ויצא מן המקדש ויעבר בתוכם עבור וחלוף׃
