¹And as he passed by, he saw a man blind from his birth.

¹Jésus vit, en passant, un homme aveugle de naissance.

¹ויהי בעברו וירא איש והוא עור מיום הולדו׃

²And his disciples asked him, saying, Rabbi, who sinned, this man, or his parents, that he should be born blind?

²Ses disciples lui firent cette question: Rabbi, qui a péché, cet homme ou ses parents, pour qu'il soit né aveugle?

²וישאלו אתו תלמידיו לאמר רבי מי הוא אשר חטא הזה אם ילדיו כי נולד עור׃

³Jesus answered, Neither did this man sin, nor his parents: but that the works of God should be made manifest in him.

³Jésus répondit: Ce n'est pas que lui ou ses parents aient péché; mais c'est afin que les oeuvres de Dieu soient manifestées en lui.

³ויען ישוע לא זה חטא ולא יולדיו אך למען יגלו בו מעללי אל׃

⁴We must work the works of him that sent me, while it is day: the night cometh, when no man can work.

⁴Il faut que je fasse, tandis qu'il est jour, les oeuvres de celui qui m'a envoyé; la nuit vient, où personne ne peut travailler.

⁴עלי לעשות מעשי שלחי בעוד יום יבוא הלילה אשר בו לא יוכל איש לפעל׃

⁵When I am in the world, I am the light of the world.

⁵Pendant que je suis dans le monde, je suis la lumière du monde.

⁵בהיותי בעולם אור העולם אני׃

⁶When he had thus spoken, he spat on the ground, and made clay of the spittle, and anointed his eyes with the clay,

⁶Après avoir dit cela, il cracha à terre, et fit de la boue avec sa salive. Puis il appliqua cette boue sur les yeux de l'aveugle,

⁶ויהי כדברו זאת וירק על הארץ ויעש טיט מן הרוק וימרח את הטיט על עיני העור׃

⁷and said unto him, Go, wash in the pool of Siloam (which is by interpretation, Sent). He went away therefore, and washed, and came seeing.

⁷et lui dit: Va, et lave-toi au réservoir de Siloé nom qui signifie envoyé). Il y alla, se lava, et s'en retourna voyant clair.

⁷ויאמר אליו לך ורחץ בברכת השלח פרושו שלוח וילך וירחץ ויבא ועיניו ראות׃

⁸The neighbors therefore, and they that saw him aforetime, that he was a beggar, said, Is not this he that sat and begged?

⁸Ses voisins et ceux qui auparavant l'avaient connu comme un mendiant disaient: N'est-ce pas là celui qui se tenait assis et qui mendiait?

⁸ויאמרו שכניו ואשר ראו אתו לפנים כי עור הוא הלא זה הוא הישב ומשאל׃

⁹Others said, It is he: others said, No, but he is like him. He said, I am [he].

⁹Les uns disaient: C'est lui. D'autres disaient: Non, mais il lui ressemble. Et lui-même disait: C'est moi.

⁹אלה אמרו כי הוא זה ואלה אמרו אך דומה לו והוא אמר אני הוא׃

¹⁰They said therefore unto him, How then were thine eyes opened?

¹⁰Ils lui dirent donc: Comment tes yeux ont-ils été ouverts?

¹⁰ויאמרו אליו במה אפו נפקחו עיניך׃

¹¹He answered, The man that is called Jesus made clay, and anointed mine eyes, and said unto me, Go to Siloam, and wash: so I went away and washed, and I received sight.

¹¹Il répondit: L'homme qu'on appelle Jésus a fait de la boue, a oint mes yeux, et m'a dit: Va au réservoir de Siloé, et lave-toi. J'y suis allé, je me suis lavé, et j'ai recouvré la vue.

¹¹ויען ויאמר איש אשר נקרא שמו ישוע עשה טיט וימרח על עיני ויאמר אלי לך ורחץ בברכת השלח ואלך וארחץ ותארנה עיני׃

¹²And they said unto him, Where is he? He saith, I know not.

¹²Ils lui dirent: Où est cet homme? Il répondit: Je ne sais.

¹²ויאמרו אליו איו ויאמר לא ידעתי׃

¹³They bring to the Pharisees him that aforetime was blind.

¹³Ils menèrent vers les pharisiens celui qui avait été aveugle.

¹³ויביאו את האיש אשר היה עור לפנים אל הפרושים׃

¹⁴Now it was the sabbath on the day when Jesus made the clay, and opened his eyes.

¹⁴Or, c'était un jour de sabbat que Jésus avait fait de la boue, et lui avait ouvert les yeux.

¹⁴והיום אשר עשה בו ישוע את הטיט ויפקח את עיניו שבת היה׃

¹⁵Again therefore the Pharisees also asked him how he received his sight. And he said unto them, He put clay upon mine eyes, and I washed, and I see.

¹⁵De nouveau, les pharisiens aussi lui demandèrent comment il avait recouvré la vue. Et il leur dit: Il a appliqué de la boue sur mes yeux, je me suis lavé, et je vois.

¹⁵ויוסיפו לשאל אתו גם הפרושים איך נפקחו עיניו ויאמר אליהם טיט שם על עיני וארחץ והנני ראה׃

¹⁶Some therefore of the Pharisees said, This man is not from God, because he keepeth not the sabbath. But others said, How can a man that is a sinner do such signs? And there was division among them.

¹⁶Sur quoi quelques-uns des pharisiens dirent: Cet homme ne vient pas de Dieu, car il n'observe pas le sabbat. D'autres dirent: Comment un homme pécheur peut-il faire de tels miracles? Et il y eut division parmi eux.

¹⁶ויאמרו מקצת הפרושים זה האיש לא מאלהים הוא כי לא ישמר את השבת ואחרים אמרו איכה יוכל איש חטא לעשות אתות כאלה ויהי ריב ביניהם׃

¹⁷They say therefore unto the blind man again, What sayest thou of him, in that he opened thine eyes? And he said, He is a prophet.

¹⁷Ils dirent encore à l'aveugle: Toi, que dis-tu de lui, sur ce qu'il t'a ouvert les yeux? Il répondit: C'est un prophète.

¹⁷ויוסיפו ויאמרו אל העור מה תאמר אתה עליו אשר פקח עיניך ויאמר נביא הוא׃

¹⁸The Jews therefore did not believe concerning him, that he had been blind, and had received his sight, until they called the parents of him that had received his sight,

¹⁸Les Juifs ne crurent point qu'il eût été aveugle et qu'il eût recouvré la vue jusqu'à ce qu'ils eussent fait venir ses parents.

¹⁸ולא האמינו היהודים עליו כי עור היה וארו עיניו עד אשר קראו אל יולדי הנרפא׃

¹⁹and asked them, saying, Is this your son, who ye say was born blind? How then doth he now see?

¹⁹Et ils les interrogèrent, disant: Est-ce là votre fils, que vous dites être né aveugle? Comment donc voit-il maintenant?

¹⁹וישאלו אתם לאמר הזה הוא בנכם אשר אמרתם כי נולד עור ואיכה הוא ראה עתה׃

²⁰His parents answered and said, We know that this is our son, and that he was born blind:

²⁰Ses parents répondirent: Nous savons que c'est notre fils, et qu'il est né aveugle;

²⁰ויענו אתם יולדיו ויאמרו ידענו כי זה הוא בננו וכי נולד עור׃

²¹but how he now seeth, we know not; or who opened his eyes, we know not: ask him; he is of age; he shall speak for himself.

²¹mais comment il voit maintenant, ou qui lui a ouvert les yeux, c'est ce que nous ne savons. Interrogez-le lui-même, il a de l'âge, il parlera de ce qui le concerne.

²¹אבל איך הוא ראה עתה או מי פקח את עיניו אנחנו לא ידענו הלא בן דעת הוא שאלו את פיהו והוא יגיד מה היה לו׃

²²These things said his parents, because they feared the Jews: for the Jews had agreed already, that if any man should confess him [to be] Christ, he should be put out of the synagogue.

²²Ses parents dirent cela parce qu'ils craignaient les Juifs; car les Juifs étaient déjà convenus que, si quelqu'un reconnaissait Jésus pour le Christ, il serait exclu de la synagogue.

²²כזאת דברו יולדיו מיראתם את היהודים כי היהודים כבר נועצו לנדות את כל אשר יודה כי הוא המשיח׃

²³Therefore said his parents, He is of age; ask him.

²³C'est pourquoi ses parents dirent: Il a de l'âge, interrogez-le lui-même.

²³על כן אמרו יולדיו בן דעת הוא שאלו את פיהו׃

²⁴So they called a second time the man that was blind, and said unto him, Give glory to God: we know that this man is a sinner.

²⁴Les pharisiens appelèrent une seconde fois l'homme qui avait été aveugle, et ils lui dirent: Donne gloire à Dieu; nous savons que cet homme est un pécheur.

²⁴ויקראו שנית לאיש אשר היה עור ויאמרו אליו תן כבוד לאלהים אנחנו ידענו כי האיש הזה חטא הוא׃

²⁵He therefore answered, Whether he is a sinner, I know not: one thing I know, that, whereas I was blind, now I see.

²⁵Il répondit: S'il est un pécheur, je ne sais; je sais une chose, c'est que j'étais aveugle et que maintenant je vois.

²⁵ויען ויאמר אם האיש חטא הוא אינני ידע אחת ידעתי כי עור הייתי ועתה הנני ראה׃

²⁶They said therefore unto him, What did he to thee? How opened he thine eyes?

²⁶Ils lui dirent: Que t'a-t-il fait? Comment t'a-t-il ouvert les yeux?

²⁶ויאמרו אליו עוד מה עשה לך איכה פקח עיניך׃

²⁷He answered them, I told you even now, and ye did not hear; wherefore would ye hear it again? would ye also become his disciples?

²⁷Il leur répondit: Je vous l'ai déjà dit, et vous n'avez pas écouté; pourquoi voulez-vous l'entendre encore? Voulez-vous aussi devenir ses disciples?

²⁷ויען אתם כבר אמרתי לכם הלא שמעתם ומה לכם לשמע שנית התאבו גם אתם להיות תלמידיו׃

²⁸And they reviled him, and said, Thou art his disciple; but we are disciples of Moses.

²⁸Ils l'injurièrent et dirent: C'est toi qui es son disciple; nous, nous sommes disciples de Moïse.

²⁸ויחרפו אתו ויאמרו אתה תלמידו ואנחנו תלמידיו של משה׃

²⁹We know that God hath spoken unto Moses: but as for this man, we know not whence he is.

²⁹Nous savons que Dieu a parlé à Moïse; mais celui-ci, nous ne savons d'où il est.

²⁹אנחנו יודעים כי אל משה דבר האלהים ואת זה לא ידענו מאין הוא׃

³⁰The man answered and said unto them, Why, herein is the marvel, that ye know not whence he is, and [yet] he opened mine eyes.

³⁰Cet homme leur répondit: Il est étonnant que vous ne sachiez d'où il est; et cependant il m'a ouvert les yeux.

³⁰ויען האיש ויאמר אליהם זאת היא הפלא ופלא כי לא ידעתם מאין הוא והוא פקח את עיני׃

³¹We know that God heareth not sinners: but if any man be a worshipper of God, and do his will, him he heareth.

³¹Nous savons que Dieu n'exauce point les pécheurs; mais, si quelqu'un l'honore et fait sa volonté, c'est celui là qu'il exauce.

³¹והנה ידענו כי את החטאים לא ישמע אל כי אם את ירא האלהים ועשה רצונו אתו ישמע׃

³²Since the world began it was never heard that any one opened the eyes of a man born blind.

³²Jamais on n'a entendu dire que quelqu'un ait ouvert les yeux d'un aveugle-né.

³²מעולם לא נשמע כי פקח איש עיני עור מרחם׃

³³If this man were not from God, he could do nothing.

³³Si cet homme ne venait pas de Dieu, il ne pourrait rien faire.

³³לולא היה זה מאת אלהים לא היה יכל לעשות מאומה׃

³⁴They answered and said unto him, Thou wast altogether born in sins, and dost thou teach us? And they cast him out.

³⁴Ils lui répondirent: Tu es né tout entier dans le péché, et tu nous enseignes! Et ils le chassèrent.

³⁴ויענו ויאמרו אליו הן בחטאים נולדת כלך ואתה תלמדנו ויהדפהו החוצה׃

³⁵Jesus heard that they had cast him out; and finding him, he said, Dost thou believe on the Son of God?

³⁵Jésus apprit qu'ils l'avaient chassé; et, l'ayant rencontré, il lui dit: Crois-tu au Fils de Dieu?

³⁵וישמע ישוע כי הדפהו החוצה ויפגשהו ויאמר אליו התאמין בבן האדם׃

³⁶He answered and said, And who is he, Lord, that I may believe on him?

³⁶Il répondit: Et qui est-il, Seigneur, afin que je croie en lui?

³⁶ויען ויאמר מי הוא זה אדני למען אאמין בו׃

³⁷Jesus said unto him, Thou hast both seen him, and he it is that speaketh with thee.

³⁷Tu l'as vu, lui dit Jésus, et celui qui te parle, c'est lui.

³⁷ויאמר אליו ישוע הן ראית אתו והמדבר אליך הנה זה הוא׃

³⁸And he said, Lord, I believe. And he worshipped him.

³⁸Et il dit: Je crois, Seigneur. Et il se prosterna devant lui.

³⁸ויאמר אני מאמין אדני וישתחו לו׃

³⁹And Jesus said, For judgment came I into this world, that they that see not may see; and that they that see may become blind.

³⁹Puis Jésus dit: Je suis venu dans ce monde pour un jugement, pour que ceux qui ne voient point voient, et que ceux qui voient deviennent aveugles.

³⁹ויאמר ישוע אני לדין באתי לעולם הזה למען יראו העורים והראים יכו בעורון׃

⁴⁰Those of the Pharisees who were with him heard these things, and said unto him, Are we also blind?

⁴⁰Quelques pharisiens qui étaient avec lui, ayant entendu ces paroles, lui dirent: Nous aussi, sommes-nous aveugles?

⁴⁰ואשר היו עמו מן הפרושים שמעו דבריו ויאמרו אליו הגם אנחנו עורים׃

⁴¹Jesus said unto them, If ye were blind, ye would have no sin: but now ye say, We see: your sin remaineth.

⁴¹Jésus leur répondit: Si vous étiez aveugles, vous n'auriez pas de péché. Mais maintenant vous dites: Nous voyons. C'est pour cela que votre péché subsiste.

⁴¹ויאמר אליהם אם עורים הייתם לא היה בכם חטא ועתה כי אמרתם פקחים אנחנו חטאתכם תעמד׃
