1And it came to pass after the death of Joshua, that the children of Israel asked of Jehovah, saying, Who shall go up for us first against the Canaanites, to fight against them?
1Après la mort de Josué, les enfants d'Israël consultèrent l'Eternel, en disant: Qui de nous montera le premier contre les Cananéens, pour les attaquer?
1ויהי אחרי מות יהושע וישאלו בני ישראל ביהוה לאמר מי יעלה לנו אל הכנעני בתחלה להלחם בו׃
2And Jehovah said, Judah shall go up: behold, I have delivered the land into his hand.
2L'Eternel répondit: Juda montera, voici, j'ai livré le pays entre ses mains.
2ויאמר יהוה יהודה יעלה הנה נתתי את הארץ בידו׃
3And Judah said unto Simeon his brother, Come up with me into my lot, that we may fight against the Canaanites; and I likewise will go with thee into thy lot. So Simeon went with him.
3Et Juda dit à Siméon, son frère: Monte avec moi dans le pays qui m'est échu par le sort, et nous combattrons les Cananéens; j'irai aussi avec toi dans celui qui t'est tombé en partage. Et Siméon alla avec lui.
3ויאמר יהודה לשמעון אחיו עלה אתי בגורלי ונלחמה בכנעני והלכתי גם אני אתך בגורלך וילך אתו שמעון׃
4And Judah went up; and Jehovah delivered the Canaanites and the Perizzites into their hand: and they smote of them in Bezek ten thousand men.
4Juda monta, et l'Eternel livra entre leurs mains les Cananéens et les Phéréziens; ils battirent dix mille hommes à Bézek.
4ויעל יהודה ויתן יהוה את הכנעני והפרזי בידם ויכום בבזק עשרת אלפים איש׃
5And they found Adoni-bezek in Bezek; and they fought against him, and they smote the Canaanites and the Perizzites.
5Ils trouvèrent Adoni-Bézek à Bézek; ils l'attaquèrent, et ils battirent les Cananéens et les Phéréziens.
5וימצאו את אדני בזק בבזק וילחמו בו ויכו את הכנעני ואת הפרזי׃
6But Adoni-bezek fled; and they pursued after him, and caught him, and cut off his thumbs and his great toes.
6Adoni-Bézek prit la fuite; mais ils le poursuivirent et le saisirent, et ils lui coupèrent les pouces des mains et des pieds.
6וינס אדני בזק וירדפו אחריו ויאחזו אתו ויקצצו את בהנות ידיו ורגליו׃
7And Adoni-bezek said, Threescore and ten kings, having their thumbs and their great toes cut off, gathered [their food] under my table: as I have done, so God hath requited me. And they brought him to Jerusalem, and he died there.
7Adoni-Bézek dit: Soixante-dix rois, ayant les pouces des mains et des pieds coupés, ramassaient sous ma table; Dieu me rend ce que j'ai fait. On l'emmena à Jérusalem, et il y mourut.
7ויאמר אדני בזק שבעים מלכים בהנות ידיהם ורגליהם מקצצים היו מלקטים תחת שלחני כאשר עשיתי כן שלם לי אלהים ויביאהו ירושלם וימת שם׃
8And the children of Judah fought against Jerusalem, and took it, and smote it with the edge of the sword, and set the city on fire.
8Les fils de Juda attaquèrent Jérusalem et la prirent, ils la frappèrent du tranchant de l'épée et mirent le feu à la ville.
8וילחמו בני יהודה בירושלם וילכדו אותה ויכוה לפי חרב ואת העיר שלחו באש׃
9And afterward the children of Judah went down to fight against the Canaanites that dwelt in the hill-country, and in the South, and in the lowland.
9Les fils de Juda descendirent ensuite, pour combattre les Cananéens qui habitaient la montagne, la contrée du midi et la plaine.
9ואחר ירדו בני יהודה להלחם בכנעני יושב ההר והנגב והשפלה׃
10And Judah went against the Canaanites that dwelt in Hebron (now the name of Hebron beforetime was Kiriath-arba); and they smote Sheshai, and Ahiman, and Talmai.
10Juda marcha contre les Cananéens qui habitaient à Hébron, appelée autrefois Kirjath-Arba; et il battit Schéschaï, Ahiman et Talmaï.
10וילך יהודה אל הכנעני היושב בחברון ושם חברון לפנים קרית ארבע ויכו את ששי ואת אחימן ואת תלמי׃
11And from thence he went against the inhabitants of Debir. (Now the name of Debir beforetime was Kiriath-sepher.)
11De là il marcha contre les habitants de Debir: Debir s'appelait autrefois Kirjath-Sépher.
11וילך משם אל יושבי דביר ושם דביר לפנים קרית ספר׃
12And Caleb said, He that smiteth Kiriath-sepher, and taketh it, to him will I give Achsah my daughter to wife.
12Caleb dit: Je donnerai ma fille Acsa pour femme à celui qui battra Kirjath-Sépher et qui la prendra.
12ויאמר כלב אשר יכה את קרית ספר ולכדה ונתתי לו את עכסה בתי לאשה׃
13And Othniel the son of Kenaz, Caleb's younger brother, took it: and he gave him Achsah his daughter to wife.
13Othniel, fils de Kenaz, frère cadet de Caleb, s'en empara; et Caleb lui donna pour femme sa fille Acsa.
13וילכדה עתניאל בן קנז אחי כלב הקטן ממנו ויתן לו את עכסה בתו לאשה׃
14And it came to pass, when she came [unto him], that she moved him to ask of her father a field: and she alighted from off her ass; and Caleb said unto her, What wouldest thou?
14Lorsqu'elle fut entrée chez Othniel, elle le sollicita de demander à son père un champ. Elle descendit de dessus son âne; et Caleb lui dit: Qu'as-tu?
14ויהי בבואה ותסיתהו לשאול מאת אביה השדה ותצנח מעל החמור ויאמר לה כלב מה לך׃
15And she said unto him, Give me a blessing; for that thou hast set me in the land of the South, give me also springs of water. And Caleb gave her the upper springs and the nether springs.
15Elle lui répondit: Fais-moi un présent, car tu m'as donné une terre du midi; donne-moi aussi des sources d'eau. Et Caleb lui donna les sources supérieures et les sources inférieures.
15ותאמר לו הבה לי ברכה כי ארץ הנגב נתתני ונתתה לי גלת מים ויתן לה כלב את גלת עלית ואת גלת תחתית׃
16And the children of the Kenite, Moses' brother-in-law, went up out of the city of palm-trees with the children of Judah into the wilderness of Judah, which is in the south of Arad; and they went and dwelt with the people.
16Les fils du Kénien, beau-père de Moïse, montèrent de la ville des palmiers, avec les fils de Juda, dans le désert de Juda au midi d'Arad, et ils allèrent s'établir parmi le peuple.
16ובני קיני חתן משה עלו מעיר התמרים את בני יהודה מדבר יהודה אשר בנגב ערד וילך וישב את העם׃
17And Judah went with Simeon his brother, and they smote the Canaanites that inhabited Zephath, and utterly destroyed it. And the name of the city was called Hormah.
17Juda se mit en marche avec Siméon, son frère, et ils battirent les Cananéens qui habitaient à Tsephath; ils dévouèrent la ville par interdit, et on l'appela Horma.
17וילך יהודה את שמעון אחיו ויכו את הכנעני יושב צפת ויחרימו אותה ויקרא את שם העיר חרמה׃
18Also Judah took Gaza with the border thereof, and Ashkelon with the border thereof, and Ekron with the border thereof.
18Juda s'empara encore de Gaza et de son territoire, d'Askalon et de son territoire, et d'Ekron et de son territoire.
18וילכד יהודה את עזה ואת גבולה ואת אשקלון ואת גבולה ואת עקרון ואת גבולה׃
19And Jehovah was with Judah; and drove out [the inhabitants of] the hill-country; for he could not drive out the inhabitants of the valley, because they had chariots of iron.
19L'Eternel fut avec Juda; et Juda se rendit maître de la montagne, mais il ne put chasser les habitants de la plaine, parce qu'ils avaient des chars de fer.
19ויהי יהוה את יהודה וירש את ההר כי לא להוריש את ישבי העמק כי רכב ברזל להם׃
20And they gave Hebron unto Caleb, as Moses had spoken: and he drove out thence the three sons of Anak.
20On donna Hébron à Caleb, comme l'avait dit Moïse; et il en chassa les trois fils d'Anak.
20ויתנו לכלב את חברון כאשר דבר משה ויורש משם את שלשה בני הענק׃
21And the children of Benjamin did not drive out the Jebusites that inhabited Jerusalem; but the Jebusites dwell with the children of Benjamin in Jerusalem unto this day.
21Les fils de Benjamin ne chassèrent point les Jébusiens qui habitaient à Jérusalem; et les Jébusiens ont habité jusqu'à ce jour dans Jérusalem avec les fils de Benjamin.
21ואת היבוסי ישב ירושלם לא הורישו בני בנימן וישב היבוסי את בני בנימן בירושלם עד היום הזה׃
22And the house of Joseph, they also went up against Beth-el; and Jehovah was with them.
22La maison de Joseph monta aussi contre Béthel, et l'Eternel fut avec eux.
22ויעלו בית יוסף גם הם בית אל ויהוה עמם׃
23And the house of Joseph sent to spy out Beth-el. (Now the name of the city beforetime was Luz.)
23La maison de Joseph fit explorer Béthel, qui s'appelait autrefois Luz.
23ויתירו בית יוסף בבית אל ושם העיר לפנים לוז׃
24And the watchers saw a man come forth out of the city, and they said unto him, Show us, we pray thee, the entrance into the city, and we will deal kindly with thee.
24Les gardes virent un homme qui sortait de la ville, et ils lui dirent: Montre-nous par où nous pourrons entrer dans la ville, et nous te ferons grâce.
24ויראו השמרים איש יוצא מן העיר ויאמרו לו הראנו נא את מבוא העיר ועשינו עמך חסד׃
25And he showed them the entrance into the city; and they smote the city with the edge of the sword; but they let the man go and all his family.
25Il leur montra par où ils pourraient entrer dans la ville. Et ils frappèrent la ville du tranchant de l'épée; mais ils laissèrent aller cet homme et toute sa famille.
25ויראם את מבוא העיר ויכו את העיר לפי חרב ואת האיש ואת כל משפחתו שלחו׃
26And the man went into the land of the Hittites, and built a city, and called the name thereof Luz, which is the name thereof unto this day.
26Cet homme se rendit dans le pays des Héthiens; il bâtit une ville, et lui donna le nom de Luz, nom qu'elle a porté jusqu'à ce jour.
26וילך האיש ארץ החתים ויבן עיר ויקרא שמה לוז הוא שמה עד היום הזה׃
27And Manasseh did not drive out [the inhabitants of] Beth-shean and its towns, nor [of] Taanach and its towns, nor the inhabitants of Dor and its towns, nor the inhabitants of Ibleam and its towns, nor the inhabitants of Megiddo and its towns; but the Canaanites would dwell in that land.
27Manassé ne chassa point les habitants de Beth-Schean et des villes de son ressort, de Thaanac et des villes de son ressort, de Dor et des villes de son ressort, de Jibleam et des villes de son ressort, de Meguiddo et des villes de son ressort; et les Cananéens voulurent rester dans ce pays.
27ולא הוריש מנשה את בית שאן ואת בנותיה ואת תענך ואת בנתיה ואת ישב דור ואת בנותיה ואת יושבי יבלעם ואת בנתיה ואת יושבי מגדו ואת בנותיה ויואל הכנעני לשבת בארץ הזאת׃
28And it came to pass, when Israel was waxed strong, that they put the Canaanites to taskwork, and did not utterly drive them out.
28Lorsqu'Israël fut assez fort, il assujettit les Cananéens à un tribut, mais il ne les chassa point.
28ויהי כי חזק ישראל וישם את הכנעני למס והוריש לא הורישו׃
29And Ephraim drove not out the Canaanites that dwelt in Gezer; but the Canaanites dwelt in Gezer among them.
29Ephraïm ne chassa point les Cananéens qui habitaient à Guézer, et les Cananéens habitèrent au milieu d'Ephraïm à Guézer.
29ואפרים לא הוריש את הכנעני היושב בגזר וישב הכנעני בקרבו בגזר׃
30Zebulun drove not out the inhabitants of Kitron, nor the inhabitants of Nahalol; but the Canaanites dwelt among them, and became subject to taskwork.
30Zabulon ne chassa point les habitants de Kitron, ni les habitants de Nahalol; et les Cananéens habitèrent au milieu de Zabulon, mais ils furent assujettis à un tribut.
30זבולן לא הוריש את יושבי קטרון ואת יושבי נהלל וישב הכנעני בקרבו ויהיו למס׃
31Asher drove not out the inhabitants of Acco, nor the inhabitants of Sidon, nor of Ahlab, nor of Achzib, nor of Helbah, nor of Aphik, nor of Rehob;
31Aser ne chassa point les habitants d'Acco, ni les habitants de Sidon, ni ceux d'Achlal, d'Aczib, de Helba, d'Aphik et de Rehob;
31אשר לא הוריש את ישבי עכו ואת יושבי צידון ואת אחלב ואת אכזיב ואת חלבה ואת אפיק ואת רחב׃
32but the Asherites dwelt among the Canaanites, the inhabitants of the land; for they did not drive them out.
32et les Asérites habitèrent au milieu des Cananéens, habitants du pays, car ils ne les chassèrent point.
32וישב האשרי בקרב הכנעני ישבי הארץ כי לא הורישו׃
33Naphtali drove not out the inhabitants of Beth-shemesh, nor the inhabitants of Beth-anath; but he dwelt among the Canaanites, the inhabitants of the land: nevertheless the inhabitants of Beth-shemesh and of Beth-anath became subject to taskwork.
33Nephthali ne chassa point les habitants de Beth-Schémesch, ni les habitants de Beth-Anath, et il habita au milieu des Cananéens, habitants du pays, mais les habitants de Beth-Schémesch et de Beth-Anath furent assujettis à un tribut.
33נפתלי לא הוריש את ישבי בית שמש ואת ישבי בית ענת וישב בקרב הכנעני ישבי הארץ וישבי בית שמש ובית ענת היו להם למס׃
34And the Amorites forced the children of Dan into the hill-country; for they would not suffer them to come down to the valley;
34Les Amoréens repoussèrent dans la montagne les fils de Dan, et ne les laissèrent pas descendre dans la plaine.
34וילחצו האמרי את בני דן ההרה כי לא נתנו לרדת לעמק׃
35but the Amorites would dwell in mount Heres, in Aijalon, and in Shaalbim: yet the hand of the house of Joseph prevailed, so that they became subject to taskwork.
35Les Amoréens voulurent rester à Har- Hérès, à Ajalon et à Schaalbim; mais la main de la maison de Joseph s'appesantit sur eux, et ils furent assujettis à un tribut.
35ויואל האמרי לשבת בהר חרס באילון ובשעלבים ותכבד יד בית יוסף ויהיו למס׃
36And the border of the Amorites was from the ascent of Akrabbim, from the rock, and upward.
36Le territoire des Amoréens s'étendait depuis la montée d'Akrabbim, depuis Séla, et en dessus.
36וגבול האמרי ממעלה עקרבים מהסלע ומעלה׃
