¹And he entered and was passing through Jericho.

¹Jésus, étant entré dans Jéricho, traversait la ville.

¹ויבוא ויעבר ביריחו׃

²And behold, a man called by name Zacchaeus; and he was a chief publican, and he was rich.

²Et voici, un homme riche, appelé Zachée, chef des publicains,

²והנה איש ושמו זכי מראשי המוכסים והוא עשיר׃

³And he sought to see Jesus who he was; and could not for the crowd, because he was little of stature.

³cherchait à voir qui était Jésus; mais il ne pouvait y parvenir, à cause de la foule, car il était de petite taille.

³ויבקש לראות את ישוע מי הוא ולא יכל מפני העם כי שפל קומה היה׃

⁴And he ran on before, and climbed up into a sycomore tree to see him: for he was to pass that way.

⁴Il courut en avant, et monta sur un sycomore pour le voir, parce qu'il devait passer par là.

⁴ויקדם וירץ ויעל על שקמה לראותו כי שם הדרך אשר יעבר בה׃

⁵And when Jesus came to the place, he looked up, and said unto him, Zacchaeus, make haste, and come down; for to-day I must abide at thy house.

⁵Lorsque Jésus fut arrivé à cet endroit, il leva les yeux et lui dit: Zachée, hâte-toi de descendre; car il faut que je demeure aujourd'hui dans ta maison.

⁵ויהי בבאו אל המקום ההוא ויבט ישוע ויראהו ויאמר אליו זכי רד מהר כי צריך אני לשבת היום בביתך׃

⁶And he made haste, and came down, and received him joyfully.

⁶Zachée se hâta de descendre, et le reçut avec joie.

⁶וימהר וירד ויאספהו בשמחה׃

⁷And when they saw it, they all murmured, saying, He is gone in to lodge with a man that is a sinner.

⁷Voyant cela, tous murmuraient, et disaient: Il est allé loger chez un homme pécheur.

⁷וילונו כל הראים לאמר בא ללון בבית איש חוטא׃

⁸And Zacchaeus stood, and said unto the Lord, Behold, Lord, the half of my goods I give to the poor; and if I have wrongfully exacted aught of any man, I restore fourfold.

⁸Mais Zachée, se tenant devant le Seigneur, lui dit: Voici, Seigneur, je donne aux pauvres la moitié de mes biens, et, si j'ai fait tort de quelque chose à quelqu'un, je lui rends le quadruple.

⁸ויעמד זכי ויאמר אל האדון הנה אדני את מחצית נכסי אני נתן לעניים ואם עשקתי איש אשיב לו ארבעתים׃

⁹And Jesus said unto him, To-day is salvation come to this house, forasmuch as he also is a son of Abraham.

⁹Jésus lui dit: Le salut est entré aujourd'hui dans cette maison, parce que celui-ci est aussi un fils d'Abraham.

⁹ויאמר אליו ישוע היום היתה תשועה לבית הזה באשר בן אברהם גם הוא׃

¹⁰For the Son of man came to seek and to save that which was lost.

¹⁰Car le Fils de l'homme est venu chercher et sauver ce qui était perdu.

¹⁰כי בא בן האדם לבקש ולהושיע את האבד׃

¹¹And as they heard these things, he added and spake a parable, because he was nigh to Jerusalem, and [because] they supposed that the kingdom of God was immediately to appear.

¹¹Ils écoutaient ces choses, et Jésus ajouta une parabole, parce qu'il était près de Jérusalem, et qu'on croyait qu'à l'instant le royaume de Dieu allait paraître.

¹¹ויהי הם שמעים את זאת ויסף שאת משל על אשר קרב לירושלים והמה חשבים כי מהרה תגלה מלכות האלהים׃

¹²He said therefore, A certain nobleman went into a far country, to receive for himself a kingdom, and to return.

¹²Il dit donc: Un homme de haute naissance s'en alla dans un pays lointain, pour se faire investir de l'autorité royale, et revenir ensuite.

¹²על כן אמר איש אחד מן האדירים הלך אל ארץ רחוקה לקחת לו ממלכה ולשוב׃

¹³And he called ten servants of his, and gave them ten pounds, and said unto them, Trade ye [herewith] till I come.

¹³Il appela dix de ses serviteurs, leur donna dix mines, et leur dit: Faites-les valoir jusqu'à ce que je revienne.

¹³ויקרא אל עשרה מעבדיו ויתן להם עשרה מנים ויאמר להם סחרו בהם עד באי׃

¹⁴But his citizens hated him, and sent an ambassage after him, saying, We will not that this man reign over us.

¹⁴Mais ses concitoyens le haïssaient, et ils envoyèrent une ambassade après lui, pour dire: Nous ne voulons pas que cet homme règne sur nous.

¹⁴ובני עירו שנאים אותו וישלחו מלאכים אחריו לאמר לא נחפץ בזה כי ימלך עלינו׃

¹⁵And it came to pass, when he was come back again, having received the kingdom, that he commanded these servants, unto whom he had given the money, to be called to him, that he might know what they had gained by trading.

¹⁵Lorsqu'il fut de retour, après avoir été investi de l'autorité royale, il fit appeler auprès de lui les serviteurs auxquels il avait donné l'argent, afin de connaître comment chacun l'avait fait valoir.

¹⁵ויהי אחרי קחתו את הממלכה וישב ויאמר לקרא את העבדים ההם אשר נתן להם את הכסף למען ידע מה הרויח כל אחד במסחרו׃

¹⁶And the first came before him, saying, Lord, thy pound hath made ten pounds more.

¹⁶Le premier vint, et dit: Seigneur, ta mine a rapporté dix mines.

¹⁶ויבא הראשון ויאמר אדני מנה שלך הביא עשרת מנים׃

¹⁷And he said unto him, Well done, thou good servant: because thou wast found faithful in a very little, have thou authority over ten cities.

¹⁷Il lui dit: C'est bien, bon serviteur; parce que tu as été fidèle en peu de chose, reçois le gouvernement de dix villes.

¹⁷ויאמר אליו כן העבד הטוב תחת אשר היית נאמן במעט מזער היה שליט על עשר ערים׃

¹⁸And the second came, saying, Thy pound, Lord, hath made five pounds.

¹⁸Le second vint, et dit: Seigneur, ta mine a produit cinq mines.

¹⁸ויבא השני ויאמר אדני מנה שלך עשה חמשת מנים׃

¹⁹And he said unto him also, Be thou also over five cities.

¹⁹Il lui dit: Toi aussi, sois établi sur cinq villes.

¹⁹ויאמר גם לזה אף אתה היה על חמש ערים׃

²⁰And another came, saying, Lord, behold, [here is] thy pound, which I kept laid up in a napkin:

²⁰Un autre vint, et dit: Seigneur, voici ta mine, que j'ai gardée dans un linge;

²⁰ויבא האחר ויאמר הא לך מנה שלך אשר היה אצלי צרור בסודר׃

²¹for I feared thee, because thou art an austere man: thou takest up that which thou layedst not down, and reapest that which thou didst not sow.

²¹car j'avais peur de toi, parce que tu es un homme sévère; tu prends ce que tu n'as pas déposé, et tu moissonnes ce que tu n'as pas semé.

²¹מפני יראתי אתך כי אתה איש קשה לקח את אשר לא הנחת וקצר את אשר לא זרעת׃

²²He saith unto him, Out of thine own mouth will I judge thee, thou wicked servant. Thou knewest that I am an austere man, taking up that which I laid not down, and reaping that which I did not sow;

²²Il lui dit: Je te juge sur tes paroles, méchant serviteur; tu savais que je suis un homme sévère, prenant ce que je n'ai pas déposé, et moissonnant ce que je n'ai pas semé;

²²ויאמר אליו מפיך אשפטך העבד הרע אתה ידעת כי אני איש קשה לקח את אשר לא הנחתי וקוצר את אשר לא זרעתי׃

²³then wherefore gavest thou not my money into the bank, and I at my coming should have required it with interest?

²³pourquoi donc n'as-tu pas mis mon argent dans une banque, afin qu'à mon retour je le retirasse avec un intérêt?

²³ולמה לא נתת את כספי לשלחני ואני בבואי הייתי תובע אותו במרבית׃

²⁴And he said unto them that stood by, Take away from him the pound, and give it unto him that hath the ten pounds.

²⁴Puis il dit à ceux qui étaient là: Otez-lui la mine, et donnez-la à celui qui a les dix mines.

²⁴ויאמר אל העמדים שם שאו ממנו את המנה ותנוהו אל אשר לו עשרת המנים׃

²⁵And they said unto him, Lord, he hath ten pounds.

²⁵Ils lui dirent: Seigneur, il a dix mines. -

²⁵ויאמרו אליו אדנינו יש לו עשרת מנים׃

²⁶I say unto you, that unto every one that hath shall be given; but from him that hath not, even that which he hath shall be taken away from him.

²⁶Je vous le dis, on donnera à celui qui a, mais à celui qui n'a pas on ôtera même ce qu'il a.

²⁶הן אני אמר לכם כי כל איש שיש לו ינתן לו ואשר אין לו יקח ממנו גם את אשר לו׃

²⁷But these mine enemies, that would not that I should reign over them, bring hither, and slay them before me.

²⁷Au reste, amenez ici mes ennemis, qui n'ont pas voulu que je régnasse sur eux, et tuez-les en ma présence.

²⁷אבל את איבי ההם אשר לא חפצו מלכי עליהם הביאו אתם הנה והרגו אתם לפני׃

²⁸And when he had thus spoken, he went on before, going up to Jerusalem.

²⁸Après avoir ainsi parlé, Jésus marcha devant la foule, pour monter à Jérusalem.

²⁸ויכל לדבר הדברים האלה ויעבר לפניהם ויעל ירושלים׃

²⁹And it came to pass, when he drew nigh unto Bethphage and Bethany, at the mount that is called Olivet, he sent two of the disciples,

²⁹Lorsqu'il approcha de Bethphagé et de Béthanie, vers la montagne appelée montagne des oliviers, Jésus envoya deux de ses disciples,

²⁹ויהי בקרבו אל בית פגי ובית היני בהר הנקרא הר הזיתים וישלח שנים מתלמידיו לאמר׃

³⁰saying, Go your way into the village over against [you]; in which as ye enter ye shall find a colt tied, whereon no man ever yet sat: loose him, and bring him.

³⁰en disant: Allez au village qui est en face; quand vous y serez entrés, vous trouverez un ânon attaché, sur lequel aucun homme ne s'est jamais assis; détachez-le, et amenez-le.

³⁰לכו אל הכפר אשר ממולנו והיה בבואכם שמה תמצאו עיר אסור אשר לא ישב עליו אדם עד עתה התירו אתו והביאו׃

³¹And if any one ask you, Why do ye loose him? thus shall ye say, The Lord hath need of him.

³¹Si quelqu'un vous demande: Pourquoi le détachez-vous? vous lui répondrez: Le Seigneur en a besoin.

³¹וכי ישאל אתכם איש למה תתירהו כה תאמרו אליו יען כי האדון צריך לו׃

³²And they that were sent went away, and found even as he had said unto them.

³²Ceux qui étaient envoyés allèrent, et trouvèrent les choses comme Jésus leur avait dit.

³²וילכו השלוחים וימצאו כאשר דבר אליהם׃

³³And as they were loosing the colt, the owners thereof said unto them, Why loose ye the colt?

³³Comme ils détachaient l'ânon, ses maîtres leur dirent: Pourquoi détachez-vous l'ânon?

³³ויתירו את העיר ויאמר אליהם בעליו למה זה אתם מתירים את העיר׃

³⁴And they said, The Lord hath need of him.

³⁴Ils répondirent: Le Seigneur en a besoin.

³⁴ויאמרו האדון צריך לו׃

³⁵And they brought him to Jesus: and they threw their garments upon the colt, and set Jesus thereon.

³⁵Et ils amenèrent à Jésus l'ânon, sur lequel ils jetèrent leurs vêtements, et firent monter Jésus.

³⁵ויביאהו אל ישוע וישליכו את בגדיהם על העיר וירכיבו עליו את ישוע׃

³⁶And as he went, they spread their garments in the way.

³⁶Quand il fut en marche, les gens étendirent leurs vêtements sur le chemin.

³⁶ובנסעו הציעו את בגדיהם על הדרך׃

³⁷And as he was now drawing nigh, [even] at the descent of the mount of Olives, the whole multitude of the disciples began to rejoice and praise God with a loud voice for all the mighty works which they had seen;

³⁷Et lorsque déjà il approchait de Jérusalem, vers la descente de la montagne des oliviers, toute la multitude des disciples, saisie de joie, se mit à louer Dieu à haute voix pour tous les miracles qu'ils avaient vus.

³⁷ויקרב אל מורד הר הזיתים ויחלו כל המון התלמידים לשבח את האלהים בשמחה ובקול גדול על כל הגבורות אשר ראו לאמר׃

³⁸saying, Blessed [is] the King that cometh in the name of the Lord: peace in heaven, and glory in the highest.

³⁸Ils disaient: Béni soit le roi qui vient au nom du Seigneur! Paix dans le ciel, et gloire dans les lieux très hauts!

³⁸ברוך המלך הבא בשם יהוה שלום בשמים וכבוד במרומים׃

³⁹And some of the Pharisees from the multitude said unto him, Teacher, rebuke thy disciples.

³⁹Quelques pharisiens, du milieu de la foule, dirent à Jésus: Maître, reprends tes disciples.

³⁹ומקצת פרושים אשר בתוך העם אמרו אליו רבי גער בתלמידיך׃

⁴⁰And he answered and said, I tell you that, if these shall hold their peace, the stones will cry out.

⁴⁰Et il répondit: Je vous le dis, s'ils se taisent, les pierres crieront!

⁴⁰ויען ויאמר אני אמר לכם כי אם יחשו אלה תזעקנה האבנים׃

⁴¹And when he drew nigh, he saw the city and wept over it,

⁴¹Comme il approchait de la ville, Jésus, en la voyant, pleura sur elle,

⁴¹ויהי כאשר קרב וירא את העיר ויבך עליה לאמר׃

⁴²saying, If thou hadst known in this day, even thou, the things which belong unto peace! but now they are hid from thine eyes.

⁴²et dit: Si toi aussi, au moins en ce jour qui t'est donné, tu connaissais les choses qui appartiennent à ta paix! Mais maintenant elles sont cachées à tes yeux.

⁴²לו ידעת אף את בעוד יומך הזה את דבר שלומך ועתה נעלם מעיניך׃

⁴³For the days shall come upon thee, when thine enemies shall cast up a bank about thee, and compass thee round, and keep thee in on every side,

⁴³Il viendra sur toi des jours où tes ennemis t'environneront de tranchées, t'enfermeront, et te serreront de toutes parts;

⁴³כי ימים באים עליך ושפכו איביך סוללה סביביך והקיפוך וצרו עליך מכל עבריך׃

⁴⁴and shall dash thee to the ground, and thy children within thee; and they shall not leave in thee one stone upon another; because thou knewest not the time of thy visitation.

⁴⁴ils te détruiront, toi et tes enfants au milieu de toi, et ils ne laisseront pas en toi pierre sur pierre, parce que tu n'as pas connu le temps où tu as été visitée.

⁴⁴וסחבו אותך ואת בניך בקרבך ולא ישאירו בך אבן על אבן עקב כי לא ידעת את עת פקדתך׃

⁴⁵And he entered into the temple, and began to cast out them that sold,

⁴⁵Il entra dans le temple, et il se mit à chasser ceux qui vendaient,

⁴⁵ויבא אל המקדש ויחל לגרש משם את המכרים ואת הקונים בו׃

⁴⁶saying unto them, It is written, And my house shall be a house of prayer: but ye have made it a den of robbers.

⁴⁶leur disant: Il est écrit: Ma maison sera une maison de prière. Mais vous, vous en avez fait une caverne de voleurs.

⁴⁶ויאמר אליהם הן כתוב ביתי בית תפלה הוא ואתם עשתים אותו למערת פריצים׃

⁴⁷And he was teaching daily in the temple. But the chief priests and the scribes and the principal men of the people sought to destroy him:

⁴⁷Il enseignait tous les jours dans le temple. Et les principaux sacrificateurs, les scribes, et les principaux du peuple cherchaient à le faire périr;

⁴⁷ויהי מלמד יום יום במקדש והכהנים הגדולים והסופרים וגם ראשי העם מבקשים לאבדו׃

⁴⁸and they could not find what they might do; for the people all hung upon him, listening.

⁴⁸mais ils ne savaient comment s'y prendre, car tout le peuple l'écoutait avec admiration.

⁴⁸ולא מצאו מה לעשות כי כל העם דבקו אחריו לשמע אתו׃
