¹And it came to pass, on one of the days, as he was teaching the people in the temple, and preaching the gospel, there came upon him the chief priests and the scribes with the elders;

¹Un de ces jours-là, comme Jésus enseignait le peuple dans le temple et qu'il annonçait la bonne nouvelle, les principaux sacrificateurs et les scribes, avec les anciens, survinrent,

¹ויהי היום והוא מלמד את העם במקדש ומבשר ויגשו הכהנים והסופרים עם הזקנים׃

²and they spake, saying unto him, Tell us: By what authority doest thou these things? or who is he that gave thee this authority?

²et lui dirent: Dis-nous, par quelle autorité fais-tu ces choses, ou qui est celui qui t'a donné cette autorité?

²ויאמרו אליו אמר נא לנו באי זו רשות אתה עשה את אלה או מי הוא הנתן לך את הרשות הזאת׃

³And he answered and said unto them, I also will ask you a question; and tell me:

³Il leur répondit: Je vous adresserai aussi une question. Dites-moi,

³ויען ויאמר אליהם אף אני אשאלכם דבר ואמרו לי׃

⁴The baptism of John, was it from heaven, or from men?

⁴le baptême de Jean venait-il du ciel, ou des hommes?

⁴טבילת יוחנן המן השמים היתה אם מבני אדם׃

⁵And they reasoned with themselves, saying, If we shall say, From heaven; he will say, Why did ye not believe him?

⁵Mais ils raisonnèrent ainsi entre eux: Si nous répondons: Du ciel, il dira: Pourquoi n'avez-vous pas cru en lui?

⁵ויחשבו בלבם לאמר אם נאמר מן השמים ואמר למה זה לא האמנתם לו׃

⁶But if we shall say, From men; all the people will stone us: for they are persuaded that John was a prophet.

⁶Et si nous répondons: Des hommes, tout le peuple nous lapidera, car il est persuadé que Jean était un prophète.

⁶ואם נאמר מבני אדם וסקלנו כל העם בעמדם על דעתם כי יוחנן נביא היה׃

⁷And they answered, that they knew not whence [it was].

⁷Alors ils répondirent qu'ils ne savaient d'où il venait.

⁷ויענו לא ידענו מאין׃

⁸And Jesus said unto them, Neither tell I you by what authority I do these things.

⁸Et Jésus leur dit: Moi non plus, je ne vous dirai pas par quelle autorité je fais ces choses.

⁸ויאמר ישוע אליהם גם אני לא אמר לכם באי זו רשות אני עשה אלה׃

⁹And he began to speak unto the people this parable: A man planted a vineyard, and let it out to husbandmen, and went into another country for a long time.

⁹Il se mit ensuite à dire au peuple cette parabole: Un homme planta une vigne, l'afferma à des vignerons, et quitta pour longtemps le pays.

⁹ויחל לדבר אל העם את המשל הזה איש אחד נטע כרם ויתן אתו אל כרמים וילך בדרך מרחוק לימים רבים׃

¹⁰And at the season he sent unto the husbandmen a servant, that they should give him of the fruit of the vineyard: but the husbandmen beat him, and sent him away empty.

¹⁰Au temps de la récolte, il envoya un serviteur vers les vignerons, pour qu'ils lui donnent une part du produit de la vigne. Les vignerons le battirent, et le renvoyèrent à vide.

¹⁰ולמועד שלח עבד אל הכרמים לתת לו מפרי הכרם והכרמים הכהו וישלחהו ריקם׃

¹¹And he sent yet another servant: and him also they beat, and handled him shamefully, and sent him away empty.

¹¹Il envoya encore un autre serviteur; ils le battirent, l'outragèrent, et le renvoyèrent à vide.

¹¹ויסף שלח עבד אחר ויכו גם אתו ויחרפהו וישלחהו ריקם׃

¹²And he sent yet a third: and him also they wounded, and cast him forth.

¹²Il en envoya encore un troisième; ils le blessèrent, et le chassèrent.

¹²ויסף לשלח שלישי וגם אתו פצעו ויגרשהו וידחפהו חוצה׃

¹³And the lord of the vineyard said, What shall I do? I will send my beloved son; it may be they will reverence him.

¹³Le maître de la vigne dit: Que ferai-je? J'enverrai mon fils bien-aimé; peut-être auront-ils pour lui du respect.

¹³ויאמר בעל הכרם מה אעשה אשלחה את בני את ידידי כראותם אותו אולי יגורו מפניו׃

¹⁴But when the husbandmen saw him, they reasoned one with another, saying, This is the heir; let us kill him, that the inheritance may be ours.

¹⁴Mais, quand les vignerons le virent, ils raisonnèrent entre eux, et dirent: Voici l'héritier; tuons-le, afin que l'héritage soit à nous.

¹⁴וכראות אתו הכרמים נועצו יחדו לאמר זה הוא היורש לכו ונהרגהו ותהי לנו הירשה׃

¹⁵And they cast him forth out of the vineyard, and killed him. What therefore will the lord of the vineyard do unto them?

¹⁵Et ils le jetèrent hors de la vigne, et le tuèrent. Maintenant, que leur fera le maître de la vigne?

¹⁵ויגרשו אותו אל מחוץ לכרם ויהרגהו ועתה מה יעשה להם בעל הכרם׃

¹⁶He will come and destroy these husbandmen, and will give the vineyard unto others. And when they heard it, they said, God forbid.

¹⁶Il viendra, fera périr ces vignerons, et il donnera la vigne à d'autres. Lorsqu'ils eurent entendu cela, ils dirent: A Dieu ne plaise!

¹⁶יבוא ויאבד את הכרמים האלה ויתן את הכרם לאחרים ויהי כשמעם ויאמרו חלילה מהיות כזאת׃

¹⁷But he looked upon them, and said, What then is this that is written, The stone which the builders rejected, The same was made the head of the corner?

¹⁷Mais, jetant les regards sur eux, Jésus dit: Que signifie donc ce qui est écrit: La pierre qu'ont rejetée ceux qui bâtissaient Est devenue la principale de l'angle?

¹⁷ויבט בם ויאמר ומה הוא זה הכתוב אבן מאסו הבונים היתה לראש פנה׃

¹⁸Every one that falleth on that stone shall be broken to pieces; but on whomsoever it shall fall, it will scatter him as dust.

¹⁸Quiconque tombera sur cette pierre s'y brisera, et celui sur qui elle tombera sera écrasé.

¹⁸כל הנפל על האבן ההיא ישבר ואת אשר תפל עליו תשחקהו׃

¹⁹And the scribes and the chief priests sought to lay hands on him in that very hour; and they feared the people: for they perceived that he spake this parable against them.

¹⁹Les principaux sacrificateurs et les scribes cherchèrent à mettre la main sur lui à l'heure même, mais ils craignirent le peuple. Ils avaient compris que c'était pour eux que Jésus avait dit cette parabole.

¹⁹ויבקשו הכהנים הגדולים והסופרים לשלח בו את ידם בעת ההיא וייראו מפני העם כי ידעו אשר עליהם דבר את המשל הזה׃

²⁰And they watched him, and sent forth spies, who feigned themselves to be righteous, that they might take hold of his speech, so as to deliver him up to the rule and to the authority of the governor.

²⁰Ils se mirent à observer Jésus; et ils envoyèrent des gens qui feignaient d'être justes, pour lui tendre des pièges et saisir de lui quelque parole, afin de le livrer au magistrat et à l'autorité du gouverneur.

²⁰ויארבו לו וישלחו מארבים והם נדמו כצדיקים למען ילכדו אותו בדבר להסגירו אל השררה ואל יד ההגמון׃

²¹And they asked him, saying, Teacher, we know that thou sayest and teachest rightly, and acceptest not the person [of any], but of a truth teachest the way of God:

²¹Ces gens lui posèrent cette question: Maître, nous savons que tu parles et enseignes droitement, et que tu ne regardes pas à l'apparence, mais que tu enseignes la voie de Dieu selon la vérité.

²¹וישאלהו לאמר רבי ידענו כי נכונה תדבר ותלמד ולא תשא פנים כי באמת מורה אתה את דרך אלהים׃

²²Is it lawful for us to give tribute unto Caesar, or not?

²²Nous est-il permis, ou non, de payer le tribut à César?

²²המתר לנו לתת מס אל הקיסר אם לא׃

²³But he perceived their craftiness, and said unto them,

²³Jésus, apercevant leur ruse, leur répondit:

²³ויכר את נכליהם ויאמר להם׃

²⁴Show me a denarius. Whose image and superscription hath it? And they said, Caesar's.

²⁴Montrez-moi un denier. De qui porte-t-il l'effigie et l'inscription? De César, répondirent-ils.

²⁴מה תנסוני הראוני דינר של מי הצורה והמכתב אשר עליו ויענו ויאמרו של הקיסר׃

²⁵And he said unto them, Then render unto Caesar the things that are Caesar's, and unto God the things that are God's.

²⁵Alors il leur dit: Rendez donc à César ce qui est à César, et à Dieu ce qui est à Dieu.

²⁵ויאמר אליהם לכן תנו לקיסר את אשר לקיסר ולאלהים את אשר לאלהים׃

²⁶And they were not able to take hold of the saying before the people: and they marvelled at his answer, and held their peace.

²⁶Ils ne purent rien reprendre dans ses paroles devant le peuple; mais, étonnés de sa réponse, ils gardèrent le silence.

²⁶ולא יכלו ללכדו בדבר לפני העם ויתמהו על מענהו ויחרישו׃

²⁷And there came to him certain of the Sadducees, they that say that there is no resurrection;

²⁷Quelques-uns des sadducéens, qui disent qu'il n'y a point de résurrection, s'approchèrent, et posèrent à Jésus cette question:

²⁷ויקרבו אנשים מן הצדוקים הכפרים בתחית המתים וישאלהו לאמר׃

²⁸and they asked him, saying, Teacher, Moses wrote unto us, that if a man's brother die, having a wife, and he be childless, his brother should take the wife, and raise up seed unto his brother.

²⁸Maître, voici ce que Moïse nous a prescrit: Si le frère de quelqu'un meurt, ayant une femme sans avoir d'enfants, son frère épousera la femme, et suscitera une postérité à son frère.

²⁸מורה משה כתב לנו כי ימות אח בעל אשה ובנים אין לו ולקח אחיו את אשתו והקים זרע לאחיו׃

²⁹There were therefore seven brethren: and the first took a wife, and died childless;

²⁹Or, il y avait sept frères. Le premier se maria, et mourut sans enfants.

²⁹והנה היו שבעה אחים והראשון לקח אשה וימת לא בנים׃

³⁰and the second:

³⁰Le second et le troisième épousèrent la veuve;

³⁰ויקח אתה השני וימת גם הוא לא בנים׃

³¹and the third took her; and likewise the seven also left no children, and died.

³¹il en fut de même des sept, qui moururent sans laisser d'enfants.

³¹ויקח אתה השלישי וככה עשו אף השבעה ולא הניחו בנים וימותו׃

³²Afterward the woman also died.

³²Enfin, la femme mourut aussi.

³²ובאחרונה מתה גם האשה׃

³³In the resurrection therefore whose wife of them shall she be? for the seven had her to wife.

³³A la résurrection, duquel d'entre eux sera-t-elle donc la femme? Car les sept l'ont eue pour femme.

³³והנה בתחית המתים למי מהם תהיה לאשה כי היתה אשה לשבעה׃

³⁴And Jesus said unto them, The sons of this world marry, and are given in marriage:

³⁴Jésus leur répondit: Les enfants de ce siècle prennent des femmes et des maris;

³⁴ויען ישוע ויאמר אליהם בני העולם הזה ישאו נשים ותנשאנה׃

³⁵but they that are accounted worthy to attain to that world, and the resurrection from the dead, neither marry, nor are given in marriage:

³⁵mais ceux qui seront trouvés dignes d'avoir part au siècle à venir et à la résurrection des morts ne prendront ni femmes ni maris.

³⁵והזכים לנחל את העולם הבא ואת תחית המתים לא ישאו נשים ולא תנשאנה׃

³⁶for neither can they die any more: for they are equal unto the angels; and are sons of God, being sons of the resurrection.

³⁶Car ils ne pourront plus mourir, parce qu'ils seront semblables aux anges, et qu'ils seront fils de Dieu, étant fils de la résurrection.

³⁶כי לא יוכלו עוד למות כי שוים הם למלאכים ובני אלהים המה בהיותם בני התקומה׃

³⁷But that the dead are raised, even Moses showed, in [the place concerning] the Bush, when he calleth the Lord the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.

³⁷Que les morts ressuscitent, c'est ce que Moïse a fait connaître quand, à propos du buisson, il appelle le Seigneur le Dieu d'Abraham, le Dieu d'Isaac, et le Dieu de Jacob.

³⁷וגם משה רמז בסנה כי יקומו המתים בקראו את יהוה אלהי אברהם אלהי יצחק ואלהי יעקב׃

³⁸Now he is not the God of the dead, but of the living: for all live unto him.

³⁸Or, Dieu n'est pas Dieu des morts, mais des vivants; car pour lui tous sont vivants.

³⁸והאלהים איננו אלהי המתים כי אם אלהי החיים כי כלם חיים לו׃

³⁹And certain of the scribes answering said, Teacher, thou hast well said.

³⁹Quelques-uns des scribes, prenant la parole, dirent: Maître, tu as bien parlé.

³⁹ויענו מן הסופרים רבי יפה דברת׃

⁴⁰For they durst not any more ask him any question.

⁴⁰Et ils n'osaient plus lui faire aucune question.

⁴⁰ולא ערבו עוד את לבם לשאל אותו דבר׃

⁴¹And he said unto them, How say they that the Christ is David's son?

⁴¹Jésus leur dit: Comment dit-on que le Christ est fils de David?

⁴¹ויאמר אליהם איך יאמרו על המשיח כי הוא בן דוד׃

⁴²For David himself saith in the book of Psalms, The Lord said unto my Lord, Sit thou on my right hand,

⁴²David lui-même dit dans le livre des Psaumes: Le Seigneur a dit à mon Seigneur: Assieds-toi à ma droite,

⁴²והוא דוד אמר בספר תהלים נאם יהוה לאדני שב לימיני׃

⁴³Till I make thine enemies the footstool of thy feet.

⁴³Jusqu'à ce que je fasse de tes ennemis ton marchepied.

⁴³עד אשית איביך הדם לרגליך׃

⁴⁴David therefore calleth him Lord, and how is he his son?

⁴⁴David donc l'appelle Seigneur; comment est-il son fils?

⁴⁴הנה דוד קרא לו אדון ואיך הוא בנו׃

⁴⁵And in the hearing of all the people he said unto his disciples,

⁴⁵Tandis que tout le peuple l'écoutait, il dit à ses disciples:

⁴⁵ויאמר אל תלמידיו באזני כל העם׃

⁴⁶Beware of the scribes, who desire to walk in long robes, and love salutations in the marketplaces, and chief seats in the synagogues, and chief places at feasts;

⁴⁶Gardez-vous des scribes, qui aiment à se promener en robes longues, et à être salués dans les places publiques; qui recherchent les premiers sièges dans les synagogues, et les premières places dans les festins;

⁴⁶הזהרו מן הסופרים החפצים להתהלך עטופי טלית ואהבים את שאלות שלומם בשוקים ואת מושבי הראש בבתי הכנסיות ואת מסבות הראש בסעודות׃

⁴⁷who devour widows' houses, and for a pretence make long prayers: these shall receive greater condemnation.

⁴⁷qui dévorent les maisons des veuves, et qui font pour l'apparence de longues prières. Ils seront jugés plus sévèrement.

⁴⁷הבלעים את בתי האלמנות ומאריכים תפלתם למראה עינים המה משפט על יתר יקחו׃
