¹Now the feast of unleavened bread drew nigh, which is called the Passover.

²And the chief priests and the scribes sought how they might put him to death; for they feared the people.

²והכהנים הגדולים והסופרים מבקשים איך יהרגהו כי יראו מפני העם׃

³And Satan entered into Judas who was called Iscariot, being of the number of the twelve.

³Or, Satan entra dans Judas, surnommé Iscariot, qui était du nombre des douze.

³והשטן נכנס ביהודה המכנה איש קריות והוא במספר שנים העשר׃

⁴And he went away, and communed with the chief priests and captains, how he might deliver him unto them.

⁴Et Judas alla s'entendre avec les principaux sacrificateurs et les chefs des gardes, sur la manière de le leur livrer.

⁴וילך וידבר עם ראשי הכהנים ושרי החיל איך ימסרנו אל ידם׃

⁵And they were glad, and covenanted to give him money.

⁵Ils furent dans la joie, et ils convinrent de lui donner de l'argent.

⁵וישמחו ויאתו לתת לו כסף׃

⁶And he consented, and sought opportunity to deliver him unto them in the absence of the multitude.

⁶Après s'être engagé, il cherchait une occasion favorable pour leur livrer Jésus à l'insu de la foule.

⁶ויבטח אתם ויבקש תואנה למסרו אליהם שלא לעיני ההמון׃

⁷And the day of unleavened bread came, on which the passover must be sacrificed.

⁷Le jour des pains sans levain, où l'on devait immoler la Pâque, arriva,

⁷ויבא יום המצות אשר זבוח יזבח בו הפסח׃

⁸And he sent Peter and John, saying, Go and make ready for us the passover, that we may eat.

⁸et Jésus envoya Pierre et Jean, en disant: Allez nous préparer la Pâque, afin que nous la mangions.

⁸וישלח את פטרוס ואת יוחנן לאמר לכו והכינו לנו את הפסח ונאכלה׃

⁹And they said unto him, Where wilt thou that we make ready?

⁹Ils lui dirent: Où veux-tu que nous la préparions?

⁹ויאמרו אליו באי זה מקום תחפץ כי נכין אותו׃

¹⁰And he said unto them, Behold, when ye are entered into the city, there shall meet you a man bearing a pitcher of water; follow him into the house whereinto he goeth.

¹⁰Il leur répondit: Voici, quand vous serez entrés dans la ville, vous rencontrerez un homme portant une cruche d'eau; suivez-le dans la maison où il entrera,

¹⁰ויאמר אליהם הנה אתם באים העירה ופגע אתכם איש נשא צפחת מים לכו אחריו אל הבית אשר יבוא שמה׃

¹¹And ye shall say unto the master of the house, The Teacher saith unto thee, Where is the guestchamber, where I shall eat the passover with my disciples?

¹¹et vous direz au maître de la maison: Le maître te dit: Où est le lieu où je mangerai la Pâque avec mes disciples?

¹¹ואמרתם אל בעל הבית כה אמר לך הרב איה המלון אשר אכלה שם את הפסח עם תלמידי׃

¹²And he will show you a large upper room furnished: there make ready.

¹²Et il vous montrera une grande chambre haute, meublée: c'est là que vous préparerez la Pâque.

¹²והוא יראה אתכם עליה גדולה מצעה שם תכינו׃

¹³And they went, and found as he had said unto them: and they made ready the passover.

¹³Ils partirent, et trouvèrent les choses comme il le leur avait dit; et ils préparèrent la Pâque.

¹³וילכו וימצאו כאשר דבר אליהם ויכינו את הפסח׃

¹⁴And when the hour was come, he sat down, and the apostles with him.

¹⁴L'heure étant venue, il se mit à table, et les apôtres avec lui.

¹⁴ויהי כאשר הגיעה השעה ויסב הוא ושנים עשר השליחים אתו׃

¹⁵And he said unto them, With desire I have desired to eat this passover with you before I suffer:

¹⁵Il leur dit: J'ai désiré vivement manger cette Pâque avec vous, avant de souffrir;

¹⁵ויאמר אליהם נכסף נכספתי לאכל אתכם את הפסח הזה לפני ענותי׃

¹⁶for I say unto you, I shall not eat it, until it be fulfilled in the kingdom of God.

¹⁶car, je vous le dis, je ne la mangerai plus, jusqu'à ce qu'elle soit accomplie dans le royaume de Dieu.

¹⁶כי אמר אני לכם אינני אכל אותו עוד עד כי ימלא במלכות האלהים׃

¹⁷And he received a cup, and when he had given thanks, he said, Take this, and divide it among yourselves:

¹⁷Et, ayant pris une coupe et rendu grâces, il dit: Prenez cette coupe, et distribuez-la entre vous;

¹⁷ויקח את הכוס ויברך ויאמר קחו אתה וחלקו ביניכם׃

¹⁸for I say unto you, I shall not drink from henceforth of the fruit of the vine, until the kingdom of God shall come.

¹⁸car, je vous le dis, je ne boirai plus désormais du fruit de la vigne, jusqu'à ce que le royaume de Dieu soit venu.

¹⁸כי אמר אני לכם שתה לא אשתה מעתה מתנובת הגפן עד כי תבוא מלכות האלהים׃

¹⁹And he took bread, and when he had given thanks, he brake it, and gave to them, saying, This is my body which is given for you: this do in remembrance of me.

¹⁹Ensuite il prit du pain; et, après avoir rendu grâces, il le rompit, et le leur donna, en disant: Ceci est mon corps, qui est donné pour vous; faites ceci en mémoire de moi.

¹⁹ויקח את הלחם ויברך ויבצע ויתן להם לאמר זה גופי הנתן בעדכם זאת עשו לזכרוני׃

²⁰And the cup in like manner after supper, saying, This cup is the new covenant in my blood, [even] that which is poured out for you.

²⁰Il prit de même la coupe, après le souper, et la leur donna, en disant: Cette coupe est la nouvelle alliance en mon sang, qui est répandu pour vous.

²⁰וכן גם את הכוס אחר הסעודה לאמר זו הכוס היא הברית החדשה בדמי הנשפך בעדכם׃

²¹But behold, the hand of him that betrayeth me is with me on the table.

²¹Cependant voici, la main de celui qui me livre est avec moi à cette table.

²¹אך הנה יד המסר אותי אתי על השלחן׃

²²For the Son of man indeed goeth, as it hath been determined: but woe unto that man through whom he is betrayed!

²²Le Fils de l'homme s'en va selon ce qui est déterminé. Mais malheur à l'homme par qui il est livré!

²²כי הן בן האדם הלך לו כפי אשר נחרץ עליו אבל אוי לאיש ההוא אשר על ידו ימסר׃

²³And they began to question among themselves, which of them it was that should do this thing.

²³Et ils commencèrent à se demander les uns aux autres qui était celui d'entre eux qui ferait cela.

²³והם החלו לחקר איש את רעהו מי הוא זה מהם אשר יעשה זאת׃

²⁴And there arose also a contention among them, which of them was accounted to be greatest.

²⁴Il s'éleva aussi parmi les apôtres une contestation: lequel d'entre eux devait être estimé le plus grand?

²⁴וגם מריבה היתה ביניהם מי יחשב להיות הגדול בהם׃

²⁵And he said unto them, The kings of the Gentiles have lordship over them; and they that have authority over them are called Benefactors.

²⁵Jésus leur dit: Les rois des nations les maîtrisent, et ceux qui les dominent sont appelés bienfaiteurs.

²⁵ויאמר אליהם מלכי הגוים רדים בהם ושליטיהם יקראו עשי חסד׃

²⁶But ye [shall] not [be] so: but he that is the greater among you, let him become as the younger; and he that is chief, as he that doth serve.

²⁶Qu'il n'en soit pas de même pour vous. Mais que le plus grand parmi vous soit comme le plus petit, et celui qui gouverne comme celui qui sert.

²⁶ואתם לא כן כי הגדול בכם יהיה כצעיר והמשל יהיה כמשרת׃

²⁷For which is greater, he that sitteth at meat, or he that serveth? is not he that sitteth at meat? but I am in the midst of you as he that serveth.

²⁷Car quel est le plus grand, celui qui est à table, ou celui qui sert? N'est-ce pas celui qui est à table? Et moi, cependant, je suis au milieu de vous comme celui qui sert.

²⁷כי מי הוא הגדול אם המסב או המשרת הלא המסב ואני הנני בתוככם כמו המשרת׃

²⁸But ye are they that have continued with me in my temptations;

²⁸Vous, vous êtes ceux qui avez persévéré avec moi dans mes épreuves;

²⁸ואתם הם העמדים עמדי עד עתה בנסיונתי׃

²⁹and I appoint unto you a kingdom, even as my Father appointed unto me,

²⁹c'est pourquoi je dispose du royaume en votre faveur, comme mon Père en a disposé en ma faveur,

²⁹לכן אני מנחיל אתכם כאשר הנחילני אבי את המלכות׃

³⁰that ye may eat and drink at my table in my kingdom; and ye shall sit on thrones judging the twelve tribes of Israel.

³⁰afin que vous mangiez et buviez à ma table dans mon royaume, et que vous soyez assis sur des trônes, pour juger les douze tribus d'Israël.

³⁰למען תאכלו ותשתו על שלחני במלכותי וישבתם על כסאות לשפט את שנים עשר שבטי ישראל׃

³¹Simon, Simon, behold, Satan asked to have you, that he might sift you as wheat:

³¹Le Seigneur dit: Simon, Simon, Satan vous a réclamés, pour vous cribler comme le froment.

³¹ויאמר האדון שמעון שמעון הנה תבע אתכם השטן לזרותכם כחטים׃

³²but I made supplication for thee, that thy faith fail not; and do thou, when once thou hast turned again, establish thy brethren.

³²Mais j'ai prié pour toi, afin que ta foi ne défaille point; et toi, quand tu seras converti, affermis tes frères.

³²ואני התפללתי בעדך אשר לא תכלה אמונתך ואתה כאשר תשוב חזק את אחיך׃

³³And he said unto him, Lord, with thee I am ready to go both to prison and to death.

³³Seigneur, lui dit Pierre, je suis prêt à aller avec toi et en prison et à la mort.

³³והוא אמר אליו אדני הנני נכון ללכת אתך גם לבית האסורים גם למות׃

³⁴And he said, I tell thee, Peter, the cock shall not crow this day, until thou shalt thrice deny that thou knowest me.

³⁴Et Jésus dit: Pierre, je te le dis, le coq ne chantera pas aujourd'hui que tu n'aies nié trois fois de me connaître.

³⁴ויאמר אני אמר לך פטרוס לא יקרא תרנגל היום עד כי שלש פעמים כחשת בי לאמר לא ידעתיו׃

³⁵And he said unto them, When I sent you forth without purse, and wallet, and shoes, lacked ye anything? And they said, Nothing.

³⁵Il leur dit encore: Quand je vous ai envoyés sans bourse, sans sac, et sans souliers, avez-vous manqué de quelque chose? Ils répondirent: De rien.

³⁵ויאמר אליהם כאשר שלחתי אתכם בלי כיס ותרמיל ונעלים החסרתם דבר ויאמרו לא חסרנו כל דבר׃

³⁶And he said unto them, But now, he that hath a purse, let him take it, and likewise a wallet; and he that hath none, let him sell his cloak, and buy a sword.

³⁶Et il leur dit: Maintenant, au contraire, que celui qui a une bourse la prenne et que celui qui a un sac le prenne également, que celui qui n'a point d'épée vende son vêtement et achète une épée.

³⁶ויאמר אליהם אכן עתה אשר לו כיס ישאהו וכן גם את התרמיל ואשר אין לו הוא ימכר את בגדו ויקנה חרב׃

³⁷For I say unto you, that this which is written must be fulfilled in me, And he was reckoned with transgressors: for that which concerneth me hath fulfilment.

³⁷Car, je vous le dis, il faut que cette parole qui est écrite s'accomplisse en moi: Il a été mis au nombre des malfaiteurs. Et ce qui me concerne est sur le point d'arriver.

³⁷כי אמר אני לכם אשר צריך עוד להתמלא בי הכתוב הזה ואת פשעים נמנה כי כל הכתוב עלי בא עד קצו׃

³⁸And they said, Lord, behold, here are two swords. And he said unto them, It is enough.

³⁸Ils dirent: Seigneur, voici deux épées. Et il leur dit: Cela suffit.

³⁸ויאמרו אדנינו הנה פה שתי חרבות ויאמר אליהם די׃

³⁹And he came out, and went, as his custom was, unto the mount of Olives; and the disciples also followed him.

³⁹Après être sorti, il alla, selon sa coutume, à la montagne des oliviers. Ses disciples le suivirent.

³⁹ויצא וילך כיום ביום על הר הזיתים וילכו אחריו גם תלמידיו׃

⁴⁰And when he was at the place, he said unto them, Pray that ye enter not into temptation.

⁴⁰Lorsqu'il fut arrivé dans ce lieu, il leur dit: Priez, afin que vous ne tombiez pas en tentation.

⁴⁰ויבא אל המקום ויאמר אליהם התפללו לבלתי בוא לידי נסיון׃

⁴¹And he was parted from them about a stone's cast; and he kneeled down and prayed,

⁴¹Puis il s'éloigna d'eux à la distance d'environ un jet de pierre, et, s'étant mis à genoux, il pria,

⁴¹והוא נפרד מהם הרחק כקלע אבן ויכרע על ברכיו ויתפלל לאמר׃

⁴²saying, Father, if thou be willing, remove this cup from me: nevertheless not my will, but thine, be done.

⁴²disant: Père, si tu voulais éloigner de moi cette coupe! Toutefois, que ma volonté ne se fasse pas, mais la tienne.

⁴²אבי אם רצונך להעביר מעלי את הכוס הזאת אך אל יהי כרצוני כי אם כרצונך׃

⁴³And there appeared unto him an angel from heaven, strengthening him.

⁴³Alors un ange lui apparut du ciel, pour le fortifier.

⁴³וירא אליו מלאך מן השמים ויחזקהו׃

⁴⁴And being in an agony he prayed more earnestly; and his sweat became as it were great drops of blood falling down upon the ground.

⁴⁴Etant en agonie, il priait plus instamment, et sa sueur devint comme des grumeaux de sang, qui tombaient à terre.

⁴⁴ויבאו עליו חבלי מות ויוסף להתפלל בחזקה ותהי זעתו כנטפי דם ירדים לארץ׃

⁴⁵And when he rose up from his prayer, he came unto the disciples, and found them sleeping for sorrow,

⁴⁵Après avoir prié, il se leva, et vint vers les disciples, qu'il trouva endormis de tristesse,

⁴⁵ויקם מהתפלל ויבא אל התלמידים וימצאם ישנים מיגון׃

⁴⁶and said unto them, Why sleep ye? rise and pray, that ye enter not into temptation.

⁴⁶et il leur dit: Pourquoi dormez-vous? Levez-vous et priez, afin que vous ne tombiez pas en tentation.

⁴⁶]74-64[ ויאמר אליהם למה תישנו קומו והתפללו אשר לא תבאו לידי נסיונ, עודנו מדבר והנה המון ואחד משנים העשר הנקרא יהודה הלך לפניהם ויקרב אל ישוע לנשק לו׃

⁴⁷While he yet spake, behold, a multitude, and he that was called Judas, one of the twelve, went before them; and he drew near unto Jesus to kiss him.

⁴⁷Comme il parlait encore, voici, une foule arriva; et celui qui s'appelait Judas, l'un des douze, marchait devant elle. Il s'approcha de Jésus, pour le baiser.

⁴⁸But Jesus said unto him, Judas, betrayest thou the Son of man with a kiss?

⁴⁸Et Jésus lui dit: Judas, c'est par un baiser que tu livres le Fils de l'homme!

⁴⁸ויאמר ישוע אליו יהודה הבנשיקה אתה מוסר את בן האדם׃

⁴⁹And when they that were about him saw what would follow, they said, Lord, shall we smite with the sword?

⁴⁹Ceux qui étaient avec Jésus, voyant ce qui allait arriver, dirent: Seigneur, frapperons-nous de l'épée?

⁴⁹והאנשים אשר אתו ראים את אשר יהיה ויאמרו אליו אדנינו הנכה בחרב׃

⁵⁰And a certain one of them smote the servant of the high priest, and struck off his right ear.

⁵⁰Et l'un d'eux frappa le serviteur du souverain sacrificateur, et lui emporta l'oreille droite.

⁵⁰ויך אחד מהם את עבד הכהן הגדול ויקצץ את אזנו הימנית׃

⁵¹But Jesus answered and said, Suffer ye [them] thus far. And he touched his ear, and healed him.

⁵¹Mais Jésus, prenant la parole, dit: Laissez, arrêtez! Et, ayant touché l'oreille de cet homme, il le guérit.

⁵¹ויען ישוע ויאמר רב עתה הרפו ויגע באזנו וירפאהו׃

⁵²And Jesus said unto the chief priests, and captains of the temple, and elders, that were come against him, Are ye come out, as against a robber, with swords and staves?

⁵²Jésus dit ensuite aux principaux sacrificateurs, aux chefs des gardes du temple, et aux anciens, qui étaient venus contre lui: Vous êtes venus, comme après un brigand, avec des épées et des bâtons.

⁵²ויאמר ישוע אל ראשי הכהנים ושרי המקדש והזקנים אשר באו עליו לאמר כמו על פריץ יצאתם עלי בחרבות ובמקלות׃

⁵³When I was daily with you in the temple, ye stretched not forth your hands against me: but this is your hour, and the power of darkness.

⁵³J'étais tous les jours avec vous dans le temple, et vous n'avez pas mis la main sur moi. Mais c'est ici votre heure, et la puissance des ténèbres.

⁵³ואהי אצלכם יום יום בהיכל ולא שלחתם בי יד ואולם זאת היא שעתכם ושלטן החשך׃

⁵⁴And they seized him, and led him [away], and brought him into the high priest's house. But Peter followed afar off.

⁵⁴Après avoir saisi Jésus, ils l'emmenèrent, et le conduisirent dans la maison du souverain sacrificateur. Pierre suivait de loin.

⁵⁴ויתפשו אותו ויוליכהו ויביאהו בית הכהן הגדול ופטרוס הלך אחריו מרחוק׃

⁵⁵And when they had kindled a fire in the midst of the court, and had sat down together, Peter sat in the midst of them.

⁵⁵Ils allumèrent du feu au milieu de la cour, et ils s'assirent. Pierre s'assit parmi eux.

⁵⁵ויהי כי בערו אש בתוך החצר וישבו יחדו וישב גם פטרוס בתוכם׃

⁵⁶And a certain maid seeing him as he sat in the light [of the fire], and looking stedfastly upon him, said, This man also was with him.

⁵⁶Une servante, qui le vit assis devant le feu, fixa sur lui les regards, et dit: Cet homme était aussi avec lui.

⁵⁶ותראהו השפחה יושב נגד האור ותבט בו ותאמר גם זה היה עמו׃

⁵⁷But he denied, saying, Woman, I know him not.

⁵⁷Mais il le nia disant: Femme, je ne le connais pas.

⁵⁷ויכחש בו ויאמר אשה לא ידעתיו׃

⁵⁸And after a little while another saw him, and said, Thou also art [one] of them. But Peter said, Man, I am not.

⁵⁸Peu après, un autre, l'ayant vu, dit: Tu es aussi de ces gens-là. Et Pierre dit: Homme, je n'en suis pas.

⁵⁸ואחרי מעט ראהו אדם אחר ויאמר גם אתה מהם ויאמר פטרוס לא אדם כי אינני׃

⁵⁹And after the space of about one hour another confidently affirmed, saying, Of a truth this man also was with him; for he is a Galilaean.

⁵⁹Environ une heure plus tard, un autre insistait, disant: Certainement cet homme était aussi avec lui, car il est Galiléen.

⁵⁹ואחרי עבר כשעה אחת קים איש אחר לאמר אמנם גם זה היה עמו כי אף הוא גלילי׃

⁶⁰But Peter said, Man, I know not what thou sayest. And immediately, while he yet spake, the cock crew.

⁶⁰Pierre répondit: Homme, je ne sais ce que tu dis. Au même instant, comme il parlait encore, le coq chanta.

⁶⁰ויאמר פטרוס בן אדם לא ידעתי מה אתה אמר והוא עודנו מדבר והתרנגול קרא׃

⁶¹And the Lord turned, and looked upon Peter. And Peter remembered the word of the Lord, how that he said unto him, Before the cock crow this day thou shalt deny me thrice.

⁶¹Le Seigneur, s'étant retourné, regarda Pierre. Et Pierre se souvint de la parole que le Seigneur lui avait dite: Avant que le coq chante aujourd'hui, tu me renieras trois fois.

⁶¹ויפן האדון ויבט אל פטרוס ויזכר פטרוס את דבר האדון אשר דבר אליו כי בטרם יקרא התרנגל תכחש בי שלש פעמים׃

⁶²And he went out, and wept bitterly.

⁶²Et étant sorti, il pleura amèrement.

⁶²ויצא פטרוס החוצה וימרר בבכי׃

⁶³And the men that held [Jesus] mocked him, and beat him.

⁶³Les hommes qui tenaient Jésus se moquaient de lui, et le frappaient.

⁶³והאנשים אשר אחזו את ישוע התעללו בו ויכהו׃

⁶⁴And they blindfolded him, and asked him, saying, Prophesy: who is he that struck thee?

⁶⁴Ils lui voilèrent le visage, et ils l'interrogeaient, en disant: Devine qui t'a frappé.

⁶⁴ויחפו את ראשו ויכהו על פניו וישאלהו לאמר הנבא מי הוא ההלם אותך׃

⁶⁵And many other things spake they against him, reviling him.

⁶⁵Et ils proféraient contre lui beaucoup d'autres injures.

⁶⁵ועוד גדופים אחרים הרבו עליו׃

⁶⁶And as soon as it was day, the assembly of the elders of the people was gathered together, both chief priests and scribes; and they led him away into their council, saying,

⁶⁶Quand le jour fut venu, le collège des anciens du peuple, les principaux sacrificateurs et les scribes, s'assemblèrent, et firent amener Jésus dans leur sanhédrin. Ils dirent:

⁶⁶ובהית הבקר נקהלו זקני העם והכהנים הגדולים והסופרים ויעלהו לפני הסנהדרין שלהם ויאמרו האתה הוא המשיח אמר לנו׃

⁶⁷If thou art the Christ, tell us. But he said unto them, If I tell you, ye will not believe:

⁶⁷Si tu es le Christ, dis-le nous. Jésus leur répondit: Si je vous le dis, vous ne le croirez pas;

⁶⁷ויאמר אליהם כי אגיד לכם לא תאמינו׃

⁶⁸and if I ask [you], ye will not answer.

⁶⁸et, si je vous interroge, vous ne répondrez pas.

⁶⁸וגם אם אשאל לא תשיבו דבר ולא תשלחוני׃

⁶⁹But from henceforth shall the Son of man be seated at the right hand of the power of God.

⁶⁹Désormais le Fils de l'homme sera assis à la droite de la puissance de Dieu.

⁶⁹אבל מעתה יהיה בן האדם ישב לימין גבורת האלהים׃

⁷⁰And they all said, Art thou then the Son of God? And he said unto them, Ye say that I am.

⁷⁰Tous dirent: Tu es donc le Fils de Dieu? Et il leur répondit: Vous le dites, je le suis.

⁷⁰ויאמרו כלם הכי אתה הוא בן האלהים ויאמר אליהם אתם אמרתם כי אני הוא׃

⁷¹And they said, What further need have we of witness? for we ourselves have heard from his own mouth.

⁷¹Alors ils dirent: Qu'avons-nous encore besoin de témoignage? Nous l'avons entendu nous-mêmes de sa bouche.

⁷¹ויאמרו מה לנו עוד לבקש עדות הלא באזנינו שמענוה מפיו׃
