¹And the whole company of them rose up, and brought him before Pilate.

¹Ils se levèrent tous, et ils conduisirent Jésus devant Pilate.

¹ויקם כל קהלם ויוליכהו אל פילטוס׃

²And they began to accuse him, saying, We found this man perverting our nation, and forbidding to give tribute to Caesar, and saying that he himself is Christ a king.

²Ils se mirent à l'accuser, disant: Nous avons trouvé cet homme excitant notre nation à la révolte, empêchant de payer le tribut à César, et se disant lui-même Christ, roi.

²ויחלו לדבר עליו שטנה לאמר את זה מצאנו מסית את העם ומנע אתו מתת מס אל הקיסר באמרו כי הוא מלך המשיח׃

³And Pilate asked him, saying, Art thou the King of the Jews? And he answered him and said, Thou sayest.

³Pilate l'interrogea, en ces termes: Es-tu le roi des Juifs? Jésus lui répondit: Tu le dis.

³וישאלהו פילטוס לאמר האתה הוא מלך היהודים ויען אתו ויאמר אתה אמרת׃

⁴And Pilate said unto the chief priests and the multitudes, I find no fault in this man.

⁴Pilate dit aux principaux sacrificateurs et à la foule: Je ne trouve rien de coupable en cet homme.

⁴ויאמר פילטוס אל ראשי הכהנים ואל המון העם לא מצאתי דבר אשם באיש הזה׃

⁵But they were the more urgent, saying, He stirreth up the people, teaching throughout all Judaea, and beginning from Galilee even unto this place.

⁵Mais ils insistèrent, et dirent: Il soulève le peuple, en enseignant par toute la Judée, depuis la Galilée, où il a commencé, jusqu'ici.

⁵והם התאמצו לדבר מדיח הוא את העם בלמדו בכל יהודה החל מן הגליל ועד הנה׃

⁶But when Pilate heard it, he asked whether the man were a Galilaean.

⁶Quand Pilate entendit parler de la Galilée, il demanda si cet homme était Galiléen;

⁶ויהי כשמע פילטוס את שם הגליל וישאל אם הוא איש גלילי׃

⁷And when he knew that he was of Herod's jurisdiction, he sent him unto Herod, who himself also was at Jerusalem in these days.

⁷et, ayant appris qu'il était de la juridiction d'Hérode, il le renvoya à Hérode, qui se trouvait aussi à Jérusalem en ces jours-là.

⁷וכאשר ידע כי מממשלת הורדוס הוא שלחו אל הורדוס אשר היה גם הוא בירושלים בימים האלה׃

⁸Now when Herod saw Jesus, he was exceeding glad: for he was of a long time desirous to see him, because he had heard concerning him; and he hoped to see some miracle done by him.

⁸Lorsque Hérode vit Jésus, il en eut une grande joie; car depuis longtemps, il désirait le voir, à cause de ce qu'il avait entendu dire de lui, et il espérait qu'il le verrait faire quelque miracle.

⁸וישמח הורדוס עד מאד כראותו את ישוע כי מימים רבים אוה לראת אתו על כי שמע את שמעו ויקו לראת אות אשר יעשה׃

⁹And he questioned him in many words; but he answered him nothing.

⁹Il lui adressa beaucoup de questions; mais Jésus ne lui répondit rien.

⁹וירב לשאל אותו והוא לא השיב אתו דבר׃

¹⁰And the chief priests and the scribes stood, vehemently accusing him.

¹⁰Les principaux sacrificateurs et les scribes étaient là, et l'accusaient avec violence.

¹⁰ויעמדו הכהנים הגדולים והסופרים ויתחזקו לדבר עליו שטנה׃

¹¹And Herod with his soldiers set him at nought, and mocked him, and arraying him in gorgeous apparel sent him back to Pilate.

¹¹Hérode, avec ses gardes, le traita avec mépris; et, après s'être moqué de lui et l'avoir revêtu d'un habit éclatant, il le renvoya à Pilate.

¹¹ויבז אתו הורדוס עם צבאותיו ויהתל בו וילבש אותו בגד זהורית וישלחהו אל פילטוס׃

¹²And Herod and Pilate became friends with each other that very day: for before they were at enmity between themselves.

¹²Ce jour même, Pilate et Hérode devinrent amis, d'ennemis qu'ils étaient auparavant.

¹²ביום ההוא נהיו פילטוס והורדוס לאהבים יחדו כי מלפנים איבה היתה בינתם׃

¹³And Pilate called together the chief priests and the rulers and the people,

¹³Pilate, ayant assemblé les principaux sacrificateurs, les magistrats, et le peuple,

¹³ויקרא פילטוס את ראשי הכהנים ואת השרים ואת העם׃

¹⁴and said unto them, Ye brought unto me this man, as one that perverteth the people: and behold, I having examined him before you, found no fault in this man touching those things whereof ye accuse him:

¹⁴leur dit: Vous m'avez amené cet homme comme excitant le peuple à la révolte. Et voici, je l'ai interrogé devant vous, et je ne l'ai trouvé coupable d'aucune des choses dont vous l'accusez;

¹⁴ויאמר אליהם הבאתם לפני את האיש הזה כמסית את העם והנה אני חקרתיו לעיניכם ולא מצאתי באיש הזה אשמת מאומה מן הדברים אשר אתם טוענים עליו׃

¹⁵no, nor yet Herod: for he sent him back unto us; and behold, nothing worthy of death hath been done by him.

¹⁵Hérode non plus, car il nous l'a renvoyé, et voici, cet homme n'a rien fait qui soit digne de mort.

¹⁵וגם הורדוס לא מצא כי שלחתי אתכם אליו והנה אין בו חטא משפט מות׃

¹⁶I will therefore chastise him, and release him.

¹⁶Je le relâcherai donc, après l'avoir fait battre de verges.

¹⁶על כן איסרנו ואפטרנו׃

¹⁷[Now he must needs release unto them at the feast one prisoner.]

¹⁷A chaque fête, il était obligé de leur relâcher un prisonnier.

¹⁷ועליו היה לפטר להם איש אחד בימי החג׃

¹⁸But they cried out all together, saying, Away with this man, and release unto us Barabbas: --

¹⁸Ils s'écrièrent tous ensemble: Fais mourir celui-ci, et relâche-nous Barabbas.

¹⁸ויצעקו כל המונם ויאמרו הסר את זה ופטר לנו את בר אבא׃

¹⁹one who for a certain insurrection made in the city, and for murder, was cast into prison.

¹⁹Cet homme avait été mis en prison pour une sédition qui avait eu lieu dans la ville, et pour un meurtre.

¹⁹והוא היה משלך בית האסורים על דבר מרד אשר נהיה בעיר ועל דבר רצח׃

²⁰And Pilate spake unto them again, desiring to release Jesus;

²⁰Pilate leur parla de nouveau, dans l'intention de relâcher Jésus.

²⁰ויסף פילטוס לשאת קולו כי חפץ לפטר את ישוע׃

²¹but they shouted, saying, Crucify, crucify him.

²¹Et ils crièrent: Crucifie, crucifie-le!

²¹והמה צעקו אליו לאמר הצלב אותו הצלב׃

²²And he said unto them the third time, Why, what evil hath this man done? I have found no cause of death in him: I will therefore chastise him and release him.

²²Pilate leur dit pour la troisième fois: Quel mal a-t-il fait? Je n'ai rien trouvé en lui qui mérite la mort. Je le relâcherai donc, après l'avoir fait battre de verges.

²²ויאמר אליהם פעם שלישית מה אפוא עשה זה רעה כל אשמת מות לא מצאתי בו על כן איסרנו ואפטרנו׃

²³But they were urgent with loud voices, asking that he might be crucified. And their voices prevailed.

²³Mais ils insistèrent à grands cris, demandant qu'il fût crucifié. Et leurs cris l'emportèrent:

²³ויפצרו בו בקול גדול ויבקשו כי יצלב ויחזק קולם וקול הכהנים הגדולים׃

²⁴And Pilate gave sentence that what they asked for should be done.

²⁴Pilate prononça que ce qu'ils demandaient serait fait.

²⁴ויגזר פילטוס כי תעשה בקשתם׃

²⁵And he released him that for insurrection and murder had been cast into prison, whom they asked for; but Jesus he delivered up to their will.

²⁵Il relâcha celui qui avait été mis en prison pour sédition et pour meurtre, et qu'ils réclamaient; et il livra Jésus à leur volonté.

²⁵ויפטר להם את המשלך בית האסורים על דבר מרד ורצח את אשר שאלו ואת ישוע מסר לרצונם׃

²⁶And when they led him away, they laid hold upon one Simon of Cyrene, coming from the country, and laid on him the cross, to bear it after Jesus.

²⁶Comme ils l'emmenaient, ils prirent un certain Simon de Cyrène, qui revenait des champs, et ils le chargèrent de la croix, pour qu'il la porte derrière Jésus.

²⁶וכאשר הוליכהו משם ויחזיקו באיש אחד הבא מן השדה ושמו שמעון איש קוריני וישימו עליו את הצלב לשאת אחרי ישוע׃

²⁷And there followed him a great multitude of the people, and of women who bewailed and lamented him.

²⁷Il était suivi d'une grande multitude des gens du peuple, et de femmes qui se frappaient la poitrine et se lamentaient sur lui.

²⁷וילכו אחריו המון עם רב והמון נשים והנה ספדות ומקוננות עליו׃

²⁸But Jesus turning unto them said, Daughters of Jerusalem, weep not for me, but weep for yourselves, and for your children.

²⁸Jésus se tourna vers elles, et dit: Filles de Jérusalem, ne pleurez pas sur moi; mais pleurez sur vous et sur vos enfants.

²⁸ויפן ישוע ויאמר אליהן בנות ירושלים אל תבכינה עלי כי אם על נפשכן בכינה ועל בניכן׃

²⁹For behold, the days are coming, in which they shall say, Blessed are the barren, and the wombs that never bare, and the breasts that never gave suck.

²⁹Car voici, des jours viendront où l'on dira: Heureuses les stériles, heureuses les entrailles qui n'ont point enfanté, et les mamelles qui n'ont point allaité!

²⁹כי הנה ימים באים ואמרו אשרי העקרות ואשרי המעים אשר לא ילדו והשדים אשר לא היניקו׃

³⁰Then shall they begin to say to the mountains, Fall on us; and to the hills, Cover us.

³⁰Alors ils se mettront à dire aux montagnes: Tombez sur nous! Et aux collines: Couvrez-nous!

³⁰אז יחלו לאמר אל ההרים נפלו עלינו ואל הגבעות כסונו׃

³¹For if they do these things in the green tree, what shall be done in the dry?

³¹Car, si l'on fait ces choses au bois vert, qu'arrivera-t-il au bois sec?

³¹כי אם יעשו כזאת בעץ הלח מה יעשה ביבש׃

³²And there were also two others, malefactors, led with him to be put to death.

³²On conduisait en même temps deux malfaiteurs, qui devaient être mis à mort avec Jésus.

³²וגם שנים אחרים אנשי בליעל מוצאים אתו למות׃

³³And when they came unto the place which is called The skull, there they crucified him, and the malefactors, one on the right hand and the other on the left.

³³Lorsqu'ils furent arrivés au lieu appelé Crâne, ils le crucifièrent là, ainsi que les deux malfaiteurs, l'un à droite, l'autre à gauche.

³³ויהי כאשר באו אל המקום הנקרא גלגלתא ויצלבו אתו שם ואת אנשי הבליעל זה לימינו וזה לשמאלו׃

³⁴And Jesus said, Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do. And parting his garments among them, they cast lots.

³⁴Jésus dit: Père, pardonne-leur, car ils ne savent ce qu'ils font. Ils se partagèrent ses vêtements, en tirant au sort.

³⁴ויאמר ישוע אבי סלח להם כי לא ידעו מה הם עשים ויחלקו בגדיו להם ויפילו גורל׃

³⁵And the people stood beholding. And the rulers also scoffed at him, saying, He saved others; let him save himself, if this is the Christ of God, his chosen.

³⁵Le peuple se tenait là, et regardait. Les magistrats se moquaient de Jésus, disant: Il a sauvé les autres; qu'il se sauve lui-même, s'il est le Christ, l'élu de Dieu!

³⁵והעם עמד שם וראה וילעגו לו השרים לאמר את אחרים הושיע יושע נא את נפשו אם הוא המשיח בחיר האלהים׃

³⁶And the soldiers also mocked him, coming to him, offering him vinegar,

³⁶Les soldats aussi se moquaient de lui; s'approchant et lui présentant du vinaigre,

³⁶ויהתלו בו אנשי הצבא ויגשו ויביאו לו חמץ׃

³⁷and saying, If thou art the King of the Jews, save thyself.

³⁷ils disaient: Si tu es le roi des Juifs, sauve-toi toi-même!

³⁷ויאמרו אם אתה הוא מלך היהודים הושע את נפשך׃

³⁸And there was also a superscription over him, THIS IS THE KING OF THE JEWS.

³⁸Il y avait au-dessus de lui cette inscription: Celui-ci est le roi des Juifs.

³⁸וגם מכתב היה ממעל לו בכתב יוני ורומי ועברי זה הוא מלך היהודים׃

³⁹And one of the malefactors that were hanged railed on him, saying, Art not thou the Christ? save thyself and us.

³⁹L'un des malfaiteurs crucifiés l'injuriait, disant: N'es-tu pas le Christ? Sauve-toi toi-même, et sauve-nous!

³⁹ואחד מאנשי הבליעל התלוים גדפו לאמר הלא אתה המשיח הושע את עצמך ואתנו׃

⁴⁰But the other answered, and rebuking him said, Dost thou not even fear God, seeing thou art in the same condemnation?

⁴⁰Mais l'autre le reprenait, et disait: Ne crains-tu pas Dieu, toi qui subis la même condamnation?

⁴⁰ויען האחר ויגער בו לאמר האינך ירא את האלהים בהיותך בעצם הענש הזה׃

⁴¹And we indeed justly; for we receive the due reward of our deeds: but this man hath done nothing amiss.

⁴¹Pour nous, c'est justice, car nous recevons ce qu'ont mérité nos crimes; mais celui-ci n'a rien fait de mal.

⁴¹והן אנחנו בו כמשפט כי לקחנו כפי מעשינו אבל זה לא עשה מאומה רע׃

⁴²And he said, Jesus, remember me when thou comest in thy kingdom.

⁴²Et il dit à Jésus: Souviens-toi de moi, quand tu viendras dans ton règne.

⁴²ויאמר אל ישוע זכרני נא אדני בבאך במלכותך׃

⁴³And he said unto him, Verily I say unto thee, To-day shalt thou be with me in Paradise.

⁴³Jésus lui répondit: Je te le dis en vérité, aujourd'hui tu seras avec moi dans le paradis.

⁴³ויאמר ישוע אליו אמן אמר אני לך כי היום תהיה עמדי בגן עדן׃

⁴⁴And it was now about the sixth hour, and a darkness came over the whole land until the ninth hour,

⁴⁴Il était déjà environ la sixième heure, et il y eut des ténèbres sur toute la terre, jusqu'à la neuvième heure.

⁴⁴ויהי כשעה הששית והנה חשך על כל הארץ עד השעה התשיעית׃

⁴⁵the sun's light failing: and the veil of the temple was rent in the midst.

⁴⁵Le soleil s'obscurcit, et le voile du temple se déchira par le milieu.

⁴⁵ויחשך השמש ותקרע פרכת ההיכל לשנים קרעים׃

⁴⁶And Jesus, crying with a loud voice, said, Father, into thy hands I commend my spirit: and having said this, he gave up the ghost.

⁴⁶Jésus s'écria d'une voix forte: Père, je remets mon esprit entre tes mains. Et, en disant ces paroles, il expira.

⁴⁶ויקרא ישוע בקול גדול ויאמר אבי בידך אפקיד רוחי ובאמרו זאת נפח נפשו׃

⁴⁷And when the centurion saw what was done, he glorified God, saying, Certainly this was a righteous man.

⁴⁷Le centenier, voyant ce qui était arrivé, glorifia Dieu, et dit: Certainement, cet homme était juste.

⁴⁷וירא שר המאה את אשר נהיתה ויתן כבוד לאלהים לאמר אכן האיש הזה צדיק היה׃

⁴⁸And all the multitudes that came together to this sight, when they beheld the things that were done, returned smiting their breasts.

⁴⁸Et tous ceux qui assistaient en foule à ce spectacle, après avoir vu ce qui était arrivé, s'en retournèrent, se frappant la poitrine.

⁴⁸וכל המון העם אשר התאספו יחד למראה הזה בהביטם אל כל אשר נעשה תופפו על לבביהם וישובו׃

⁴⁹And all his acquaintance, and the women that followed with him from Galilee, stood afar off, seeing these things.

⁴⁹Tous ceux de la connaissance de Jésus, et les femmes qui l'avaient accompagné depuis la Galilée, se tenaient dans l'éloignement et regardaient ce qui se passait.

⁴⁹וכל מידעיו עמדו מרחוק וגם הנשים אשר הלכו אתו מן הגליל ועיניהן ראות את אלה׃

⁵⁰And behold, a man named Joseph, who was a councillor, a good and righteous man

⁵⁰Il y avait un conseiller, nommé Joseph, homme bon et juste,

⁵⁰והנה איש ושמו יוסף והוא מן היעצים איש טוב וצדיק מן הרמתים עיר היהודים׃

⁵¹(he had not consented to their counsel and deed), [a man] of Arimathaea, a city of the Jews, who was looking for the kingdom of God:

⁵¹qui n'avait point participé à la décision et aux actes des autres; il était d'Arimathée, ville des Juifs, et il attendait le royaume de Dieu.

⁵¹אשר לא הסכים לעצתם ולפעלם ומחכה גם הוא למלכות האלהים׃

⁵²this man went to Pilate, and asked for the body of Jesus.

⁵²Cet homme se rendit vers Pilate, et demanda le corps de Jésus.

⁵²ויגש אל פילטוס וישאל ממנו את גוית ישוע׃

⁵³And he took it down, and wrapped it in a linen cloth, and laid him in a tomb that was hewn in stone, where never man had yet lain.

⁵³Il le descendit de la croix, l'enveloppa d'un linceul, et le déposa dans un sépulcre taillé dans le roc, où personne n'avait encore été mis.

⁵³ויורד אתה ויכרכה בסדינים וישימה בקבר חצוב בסלע אשר עדן לא הושם בו אדם׃

⁵⁴And it was the day of the Preparation, and the sabbath drew on.

⁵⁴C'était le jour de la préparation, et le sabbat allait commencer.

⁵⁴ויום ערב שבת היה והשבת הגיעה׃

⁵⁵And the women, who had come with him out of Galilee, followed after, and beheld the tomb, and how his body was laid.

⁵⁵Les femmes qui étaient venues de la Galilée avec Jésus accompagnèrent Joseph, virent le sépulcre et la manière dont le corps de Jésus y fut déposé,

⁵⁵ותלכנה אחריו מן הנשים אשר באו אתו מן הגליל ותחזינה את הקבר ואת אשר הושם בו גויתו׃

⁵⁶And they returned, and prepared spices and ointments. And on the sabbath they rested according to the commandment.

⁵⁶et, s'en étant retournées, elles préparèrent des aromates et des parfums. Puis elles se reposèrent le jour du sabbat, selon la loi.

⁵⁶ואחרי שובן הכינו סמים ומרקחות ובשבת שבתו כפי המצוה׃
