¹And Jesus, full of the Holy Spirit, returned from the Jordan, and was led in the Spirit in the wilderness

¹Jésus, rempli du Saint-Esprit, revint du Jourdain, et il fut conduit par l'Esprit dans le désert,

¹וישוע שב מן הירדן מלא רוח הקדש וינהגהו הרוח המדברה׃

²during forty days, being tempted of the devil. And he did eat nothing in those days: and when they were completed, he hungered.

²où il fut tenté par le diable pendant quarante jours. Il ne mangea rien durant ces jours-là, et, après qu'ils furent écoulés, il eut faim.

²וינסהו השטן ארבעים יום ולא אכל מאומה בימים ההם ואחרי אשר תמו וירעב׃

³And the devil said unto him, if thou art the Son of God, command this stone that it become bread.

³Le diable lui dit: Si tu es Fils de Dieu, ordonne à cette pierre qu'elle devienne du pain.

³ויאמר אליו השטן אם בן האלהים אתה אמר אל האבן הזאת ותהי ללחם׃

⁴And Jesus answered unto him, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone.

⁴Jésus lui répondit: Il est écrit: L'Homme ne vivra pas de pain seulement.

⁴ויען אתו ישוע הן כתוב כי לא על הלחם לבדו יחיה האדם כי על כל מוצא פי יהוה׃

⁵And he led him up, and showed him all the kingdoms of the world in a moment of time.

⁵Le diable, l'ayant élevé, lui montra en un instant tous les royaumes de la terre,

⁵ויעלהו השטן על הר גבה ויראהו ברגע אחד את כל ממלכות תבל׃

⁶And the devil said unto him, To thee will I give all this authority, and the glory of them: for it hath been delivered unto me; and to whomsoever I will I give it.

⁶et lui dit: Je te donnerai toute cette puissance, et la gloire de ces royaumes; car elle m'a été donnée, et je la donne à qui je veux.

⁶ויאמר אליו השטן לך אתן את כל הממשלה הזאת ואת כבודן כי נמסרה בידי ונתתיה לאשר אחפץ׃

⁷If thou therefore wilt worship before me, it shall all be thine.

⁷Si donc tu te prosternes devant moi, elle sera toute à toi.

⁷ועתה אם תשתחוה לפני הכל יהיה לך׃

⁸And Jesus answered and said unto him, It is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.

⁸Jésus lui répondit: Il est écrit: Tu adoreras le Seigneur, ton Dieu, et tu le serviras lui seul.

⁸ויען ישוע ויאמר אליו סור ממני השטן כי כתוב ליהוה אלהיך תשתחוה ואתו תעבד׃

⁹And he led him to Jerusalem, and set him on the pinnacle of the temple, and said unto him, If thou art the Son of God, cast thyself down from hence:

⁹Le diable le conduisit encore à Jérusalem, le plaça sur le haut du temple, et lui dit: Si tu es Fils de Dieu, jette-toi d'ici en bas;

⁹ויביאהו ירושלים ויעמידהו על פנת בית המקדש ויאמר אליו אם בן האלהים אתה התנפל מזה מטה׃

¹⁰for it is written, He shall give his angels charge concerning thee, to guard thee:

¹⁰car il est écrit: Il donnera des ordres à ses anges à ton sujet, Afin qu'ils te gardent;

¹⁰כי כתוב כי מלאכיו יצוה לך לשמרך׃

¹¹and, On their hands they shall bear thee up, Lest haply thou dash thy foot against a stone.

¹¹et: Ils te porteront sur les mains, De peur que ton pied ne heurte contre une pierre.

¹¹וכי על כפים ישאונך פן תגף באבן רגלך׃

¹²And Jesus answering said unto him, It is said, Thou shalt not make trial of the Lord thy God.

¹²Jésus lui répondit: Il est dit: Tu ne tenteras point le Seigneur, ton Dieu.

¹²ויען ישוע ויאמר אליו נאמר לא תנסה את יהוה אלהיך׃

¹³And when the devil had completed every temptation, he departed from him for a season.

¹³Après l'avoir tenté de toutes ces manières, le diable s'éloigna de lui jusqu'à un moment favorable.

¹³וככלות השטן כל מסה וירף ממנו עד עת׃

¹⁴And Jesus returned in the power of the Spirit into Galilee: and a fame went out concerning him through all the region round about.

¹⁴Jésus, revêtu de la puissance de l'Esprit, retourna en Galilée, et sa renommée se répandit dans tout le pays d'alentour.

¹⁴וישב ישוע בגבורת הרוח אל הגליל ויצא שמעו בכל הככר׃

¹⁵And he taught in their synagogues, being glorified of all.

¹⁵Il enseignait dans les synagogues, et il était glorifié par tous.

¹⁵והוא היה מלמד בבתי כנסיותיהם ויהללהו כלם׃

¹⁶And he came to Nazareth, where he had been brought up: and he entered, as his custom was, into the synagogue on the sabbath day, and stood up to read.

¹⁶Il se rendit à Nazareth, où il avait été élevé, et, selon sa coutume, il entra dans la synagogue le jour du sabbat. Il se leva pour faire la lecture,

¹⁶ויבא אל נצרת אשר גדל שם וילך כמשפטו ביום השבת אל בית הכנסת ויקם לקרא בתורה׃

¹⁷And there was delivered unto him the book of the prophet Isaiah. And he opened the book, and found the place where it was written,

¹⁷et on lui remit le livre du prophète Esaïe. L'ayant déroulé, il trouva l'endroit où il était écrit:

¹⁷ויתן לו ספר ישעיה הנביא ויפתח את הספר וימצא את המקום אשר היה כתוב בו׃

¹⁸The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, Because he anointed me to preach good tidings to the poor: He hath sent me to proclaim release to the captives, And recovering of sight to the blind, To set at liberty them that are bruised,

¹⁸L'Esprit du Seigneur est sur moi, Parce qu'il m'a oint pour annoncer une bonne nouvelle aux pauvres; Il m'a envoyé pour guérir ceux qui ont le coeur brisé, Pour proclamer aux captifs la délivrance, Et aux aveugles le recouvrement de la vue, Pour renvoyer libres les opprimés,

¹⁸רוח אדני עלי יען משח אתי לבשר ענוים׃

¹⁹To proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord.

¹⁹Pour publier une année de grâce du Seigneur.

¹⁹שלחני לחבש לנשברי לב לקרא לשבוים דרור ולעורים פקח קוח לשלח רצוצים חפשים לקרא שנת רצון ליהוה׃

²⁰And he closed the book, and gave it back to the attendant, and sat down: and the eyes of all in the synagogue were fastened on him.

²⁰Ensuite, il roula le livre, le remit au serviteur, et s'assit. Tous ceux qui se trouvaient dans la synagogue avaient les regards fixés sur lui.

²⁰ויהי כאשר גלל את הספר וישיבהו אל החזן וישב ועיני כל אשר בבית הכנסת נשאות אליו׃

²¹And he began to say unto them, To-day hath this scripture been fulfilled in your ears.

²¹Alors il commença à leur dire: Aujourd'hui cette parole de l'Ecriture, que vous venez d'entendre, est accomplie.

²¹ויחל ויאמר אליהם היום נתמלא הכתוב הזה באזניכם׃

²²And all bare him witness, and wondered at the words of grace which proceeded out of his mouth: and they said, Is not this Joseph's son?

²²Et tous lui rendaient témoignage; ils étaient étonnés des paroles de grâce qui sortaient de sa bouche, et ils disaient: N'est-ce pas le fils de Joseph?

²²וכלם העידהו ותמהו על דברי חן אשר יצאו מפיהו ויאמרו הלא זה הוא בן יוסף׃

²³And he said unto them, Doubtless ye will say unto me this parable, Physician, heal thyself: whatsoever we have heard done at Capernaum, do also here in thine own country.

²³Jésus leur dit: Sans doute vous m'appliquerez ce proverbe: Médecin, guéris-toi toi-même; et vous me direz: Fais ici, dans ta patrie, tout ce que nous avons appris que tu as fait à Capernaüm.

²³ויאמר אליהם הן תאמרו לי את המשל הזה רפא רפא את עצמך וככל אשר שמענו שנעשה בכפר נחום עשה כן גם פה בעיר מולדתך׃

²⁴And he said, Verily I say unto you, No prophet is acceptable in his own country.

²⁴Mais, ajouta-t-il, je vous le dis en vérité, aucun prophète n'est bien reçu dans sa patrie.

²⁴ויאמר אמן אמר אני לכם כי אין נביא רצוי בארץ מולדתו׃

²⁵But of a truth I say unto you, There were many widows in Israel in the days of Elijah, when the heaven was shut up three years and six months, when there came a great famine over all the land;

²⁵Je vous le dis en vérité: il y avait plusieurs veuves en Israël du temps d'Elie, lorsque le ciel fut fermé trois ans et six mois et qu'il y eut une grande famine sur toute la terre;

²⁵ואמת אני אמר לכם אלמנות רבות היו בישראל בימי אליהו בהעצר השמים שלש שנים וששה חדשים ורעב גדול היה בכל הארץ׃

²⁶and unto none of them was Elijah sent, but only to Zarephath, in the land of Sidon, unto a woman that was a widow.

²⁶et cependant Elie ne fut envoyé vers aucune d'elles, si ce n'est vers une femme veuve, à Sarepta, dans le pays de Sidon.

²⁶ולא נשלח אליהו אל אחת מהנה זולתי צרפתה אשר לצידון אל אשה אלמנה׃

²⁷And there were many lepers in Israel in the time of Elisha the prophet; and none of them was cleansed, but only Naaman the Syrian.

²⁷Il y avait aussi plusieurs lépreux en Israël du temps d'Elisée, le prophète; et cependant aucun d'eux ne fut purifié, si ce n'est Naaman le Syrien.

²⁷ומצרעים רבים היו בישראל בימי אלישע הנביא ולא טהר אחד מהם זולתי נעמן הארמי׃

²⁸And they were all filled with wrath in the synagogue, as they heard these things;

²⁸Ils furent tous remplis de colère dans la synagogue, lorsqu'ils entendirent ces choses.

²⁸וימלאו כל אשר בבית הכנסת חמה בשמעם את אלה׃

²⁹and they rose up, and cast him forth out of the city, and led him unto the brow of the hill whereon their city was built, that they might throw him down headlong.

²⁹Et s'étant levés, ils le chassèrent de la ville, et le menèrent jusqu'au sommet de la montagne sur laquelle leur ville était bâtie, afin de le précipiter en bas.

²⁹ויקומו וידיחו אותו אל מחוץ לעיר ויביאהו עד גב ההר אשר נבנתה עירם עליו למען השליכו מטה׃

³⁰But he passing through the midst of them went his way.

³⁰Mais Jésus, passant au milieu d'eux, s'en alla.

³⁰אך הוא עבר בתוכם וילך לדרכו׃

³¹And he came down to Capernaum, a city of Galilee. And he was teaching them on the sabbath day:

³¹Il descendit à Capernaüm, ville de la Galilée; et il enseignait, le jour du sabbat.

³¹וירד אל כפר נחום עיר הגליל וילמדם בשבתות׃

³²and they were astonished at his teaching; for his word was with authority.

³²On était frappé de sa doctrine; car il parlait avec autorité.

³²וישתוממו על תורתו כי עצום דברו׃

³³And in the synagogue there was a man, that had a spirit of an unclean demon; and he cried out with a loud voice,

³³Il se trouva dans la synagogue un homme qui avait un esprit de démon impur, et qui s'écria d'une voix forte:

³³ואיש היה בבית הכנסת ובו רוח שד טמא ויצעק בקול גדול לאמר׃

³⁴Ah! what have we to do with thee, Jesus thou Nazarene? art thou come to destroy us? I know thee who thou art, the Holy One of God.

³⁴Ah! qu'y a-t-il entre nous et toi, Jésus de Nazareth? Tu es venu pour nous perdre. Je sais qui tu es: le Saint de Dieu.

³⁴אתה מה לנו ולך ישוע הנצרי באת להאבידנו ידעתיך מי אתה קדוש האלהים׃

³⁵And Jesus rebuked him, saying, Hold thy peace, and come out of him. And when the demon had thrown him down in the midst, he came out of him, having done him no hurt.

³⁵Jésus le menaça, disant: Tais-toi, et sors de cet homme. Et le démon le jeta au milieu de l'assemblée, et sortit de lui, sans lui faire aucun mal.

³⁵ויגער בו ישוע לאמר האלם וצא ממנו ויפילהו השד בתוכם ויצא ממנו לא הרע לו׃

³⁶And amazement came upon all, and they spake together, one with another, saying, What is this word? for with authority and power he commandeth the unclean spirits, and they come out.

³⁶Tous furent saisis de stupeur, et ils se disaient les uns aux autres: Quelle est cette parole? il commande avec autorité et puissance aux esprits impurs, et ils sortent!

³⁶ותפל אימה על כלם וידברו איש אל רעהו לאמר מה הדבר הזה כי בשלטן ובגבורה מצוה לרוחות הטמאה והמה יצאים׃

³⁷And there went forth a rumor concerning him into every place of the region round about.

³⁷Et sa renommée se répandit dans tous les lieux d'alentour.

³⁷ושמעו הולך בכל מקמות הככר׃

³⁸And he rose up from the synagogue, and entered into the house of Simon. And Simon's wife's mother was holden with a great fever; and they besought him for her.

³⁸En sortant de la synagogue, il se rendit à la maison de Simon. La belle-mère de Simon avait une violente fièvre, et ils le prièrent en sa faveur.

³⁸ויקם מבית הכנסת ויבא ביתה שמעון וחמות שמעון אחזתה קדחת חזקה וישאלהו בעדה׃

³⁹And he stood over her, and rebuked the fever; and it left her: and immediately she rose up and ministered unto them.

³⁹S'étant penché sur elle, il menaça la fièvre, et la fièvre la quitta. A l'instant elle se leva, et les servit.

³⁹ויתיצב עליה ויגער בקדחת ותרף ממנה ותקם מהרה ותשרת אתם׃

⁴⁰And when the sun was setting, all they that had any sick with divers diseases brought them unto him; and he laid his hands on every one of them, and healed them.

⁴⁰Après le coucher du soleil, tous ceux qui avaient des malades atteints de diverses maladies les lui amenèrent. Il imposa les mains à chacun d'eux, et il les guérit.

⁴⁰וכבוא השמש הביאו אליו כל אשר להם חלים חליים שונים וירפא אותם בשומו את ידיו על כל אחד מהם׃

⁴¹And demons also came out from many, crying out, and saying, Thou art the Son of God. And rebuking them, he suffered them not to speak, because they knew that he was the Christ.

⁴¹Des démons aussi sortirent de beaucoup de personnes, en criant et en disant: Tu es le Fils de Dieu. Mais il les menaçait et ne leur permettait pas de parler, parce qu'ils savaient qu'il était le Christ.

⁴¹וגם שדים יצאו מרבים צעקים ואמרים אתה הוא המשיח בן האלהים ויגער בם ולא נתנם לדבר כי ידעו אשר הוא המשיח׃

⁴²And when it was day, he came out and went into a desert place: and the multitudes sought after him, and came unto him, and would have stayed him, that he should not go from them.

⁴²Dès que le jour parut, il sortit et alla dans un lieu désert. Une foule de gens se mirent à sa recherche, et arrivèrent jusqu'à lui; ils voulaient le retenir, afin qu'il ne les quittât point.

⁴²ויצא וילך לו כאור הבקר אל מקום חרבה והמון העם בקשהו ויבאו עדיו ויפצרו בו לבלתי סור מהם׃

⁴³But he said unto them, I must preach the good tidings of the kingdom of God to the other cities also: for therefore was I sent.

⁴³Mais il leur dit: Il faut aussi que j'annonce aux autres villes la bonne nouvelle du royaume de Dieu; car c'est pour cela que j'ai été envoyé.

⁴³ויאמר להם הן עלי לבשר גם לערים האחרות את בשורת מלכות האלהים כי לזאת שלחתי׃

⁴⁴And he was preaching in the synagogues of Galilee.

⁴⁴Et il prêchait dans les synagogues de la Galilée.

⁴⁴ויהי קורא בבתי הכנסיות אשר בגליל׃
