¹And again he began to teach by the sea side. And there is gathered unto him a very great multitude, so that he entered into a boat, and sat in the sea; and all the multitude were by the sea on the land.

¹Jésus se mit de nouveau à enseigner au bord de la mer. Une grande foule s'étant assemblée auprès de lui, il monta et s'assit dans une barque, sur la mer. Toute la foule était à terre sur le rivage.

¹וישב אל הים ויחל ללמד ויקהלו אליו המון עם רב עד אשר ירד לשבת באניה בים וכל העם עומד על חוף הים ביבשה׃

²And he taught them many things in parables, and said unto them in his teaching,

²Il leur enseigna beaucoup de choses en paraboles, et il leur dit dans son enseignement:

²וילמדם הרבה במשלים ויאמר אליהם בלמדו אתם׃

³Hearken: Behold, the sower went forth to sow:

³Ecoutez. Un semeur sortit pour semer.

³שמעו שמוע הנה הזרע יצא לזרע׃

⁴and it came to pass, as he sowed, some [seed] fell by the way side, and the birds came and devoured it.

⁴Comme il semait, une partie de la semence tomba le long du chemin: les oiseaux vinrent, et la mangèrent.

⁴ויהי בזרעו ויפל מן הזרע על יד הדרך ויבא עוף השמים ויאכלהו׃

⁵And other fell on the rocky [ground], where it had not much earth; and straightway it sprang up, because it had no deepness of earth:

⁵Une autre partie tomba dans un endroit pierreux, où elle n'avait pas beaucoup de terre; elle leva aussitôt, parce qu'elle ne trouva pas un sol profond;

⁵ויש אשר נפל על מקום הסלע אשר אין לו שם אדמה הרבה וימהר לצמח כי לא היה לו עמק אדמה׃

⁶and when the sun was risen, it was scorched; and because it had no root, it withered away.

⁶mais, quand le soleil parut, elle fut brûlée et sécha, faute de racines.

⁶ויהי כזרח השמש ויצרב וייבש כי אין לו שרש׃

⁷And other fell among the thorns, and the thorns grew up, and choked it, and it yielded no fruit.

⁷Une autre partie tomba parmi les épines: les épines montèrent, et l'étouffèrent, et elle ne donna point de fruit.

⁷ויש אשר נפל בין הקצים ויעלו הקצים וימעכהו ולא נתן פרי׃

⁸And others fell into the good ground, and yielded fruit, growing up and increasing; and brought forth, thirtyfold, and sixtyfold, and a hundredfold.

⁸Une autre partie tomba dans la bonne terre: elle donna du fruit qui montait et croissait, et elle rapporta trente, soixante, et cent pour un.

⁸ויש אשר נפל על האדמה הטובה ויתן פרי עלה וגדל ויעש זה שלשים שערים וזה ששים וזה מאה׃

⁹And he said, Who hath ears to hear, let him hear.

⁹Puis il dit: Que celui qui a des oreilles pour entendre entende.

⁹ויאמר אליהם מי אשר אזנים לו לשמע ישמע׃

¹⁰And when he was alone, they that were about him with the twelve asked of him the parables.

¹⁰Lorsqu'il fut en particulier, ceux qui l'entouraient avec les douze l'interrogèrent sur les paraboles.

¹⁰ויהי בהיותו לבדו וישאלוהו האנשים אשר סביביו עם שנים העשר על המשל׃

¹¹And he said unto them, Unto you is given the mystery of the kingdom of God: but unto them that are without, all things are done in parables:

¹¹Il leur dit: C'est à vous qu'a été donné le mystère du royaume de Dieu; mais pour ceux qui sont dehors tout se passe en paraboles,

¹¹ויאמר אליהם לכם נתן לדעת סוד מלכות האלהים ואשר בחוץ להם הכל במשלים׃

¹²that seeing they may see, and not perceive; and hearing they may hear, and not understand; lest haply they should turn again, and it should be forgiven them.

¹²afin qu'en voyant ils voient et n'aperçoivent point, et qu'en entendant ils entendent et ne comprennent point, de peur qu'ils ne se convertissent, et que les péchés ne leur soient pardonnés.

¹²למען יראו ראו ולא ידעו ושמעו שמוע ולא יבינו פן ישובו ונסלח לחטאתם׃

¹³And he saith unto them, Know ye not this parable? and how shall ye know all the parables?

¹³Il leur dit encore: Vous ne comprenez pas cette parabole? Comment donc comprendrez-vous toutes les paraboles?

¹³ויאמר להם הן לא ידעתם את המשל הזה ואיך תבינו את המשלים כלם׃

¹⁴The sower soweth the word.

¹⁴Le semeur sème la parole.

¹⁴הזרע הוא זרע את הדבר׃

¹⁵And these are they by the way side, where the word is sown; and when they have heard, straightway cometh Satan, and taketh away the word which hath been sown in them.

¹⁵Les uns sont le long du chemin, où la parole est semée; quand ils l'ont entendue, aussitôt Satan vient et enlève la parole qui a été semée en eux.

¹⁵ואלה הם הנזרעים על יד הדרך אשר יזרע בם הדבר וכשמעם אותו מיד בא השטן וישא את הדבר הזרוע בלבבם׃

¹⁶And these in like manner are they that are sown upon the rocky [places], who, when they have heard the word, straightway receive it with joy;

¹⁶Les autres, pareillement, reçoivent la semence dans les endroits pierreux; quand ils entendent la parole, ils la reçoivent d'abord avec joie;

¹⁶וכן הנזרעים על מקמות הסלע הם השמעים את הדבר ומהר בשמחה יקחהו׃

¹⁷and they have no root in themselves, but endure for a while; then, when tribulation or persecution ariseth because of the word, straightway they stumble.

¹⁷mais ils n'ont pas de racine en eux-mêmes, ils manquent de persistance, et, dès que survient une tribulation ou une persécution à cause de la parole, ils y trouvent une occasion de chute.

¹⁷אך אין להם שרש בקרבם ורק לשעה יעמדו ואחר כן בהיות צרה ורדיפה על אדות הדבר מהרה יכשלו׃

¹⁸And others are they that are sown among the thorns; these are they that have heard the word,

¹⁸D'autres reçoivent la semence parmi les épines; ce sont ceux qui entendent la parole,

¹⁸והאחרים הנזרעים בין הקצים הם השמעים את הדבר׃

¹⁹and the cares of the world, and the deceitfulness of riches, and the lusts of other things entering in, choke the word, and it becometh unfruitful.

¹⁹mais en qui les soucis du siècle, la séduction des richesses et l'invasion des autres convoitises, étouffent la parole, et la rendent infructueuse.

¹⁹ודאגות העולם הזה ומרמת העשר ותאות שאר הדברים באות וממעכות את הדבר ופרי לא יהיה לו׃

²⁰And those are they that were sown upon the good ground; such as hear the word, and accept it, and bear fruit, thirtyfold, and sixtyfold, and a hundredfold.

²⁰D'autres reçoivent la semence dans la bonne terre; ce sont ceux qui entendent la parole, la reçoivent, et portent du fruit, trente, soixante, et cent pour un.

²⁰ואלה המזרעים על האדמה הטובה הם השמעים את הדבר ומקבלים אתו ועשים פרי לשלשים שערים ולששים ולמאה׃

²¹And he said unto them, Is the lamp brought to be put under the bushel, or under the bed, [and] not to be put on the stand?

²¹Il leur dit encore: Apporte-t-on la lampe pour la mettre sous le boisseau, ou sous le lit? N'est-ce pas pour la mettre sur le chandelier?

²¹ויאמר אליהם הכי יביאו הנר למען יושם תחת האיפה ותחת המטה ולא למען יעלהו על המנורה׃

²²For there is nothing hid, save that it should be manifested; neither was [anything] made secret, but that it should come to light.

²²Car il n'est rien de caché qui ne doive être découvert, rien de secret qui ne doive être mis au jour.

²²כי אין דבר סתום אשר לא יגלה ולא נעלם דבר כי אם למען יבא לגלוי׃

²³If any man hath ears to hear, let him hear.

²³Si quelqu'un a des oreilles pour entendre, qu'il entende.

²³כל אשר אזנים לו לשמע ישמע׃

²⁴And he said unto them, Take heed what ye hear: with what measure ye mete it shall be measured unto you; and more shall be given unto you.

²⁴Il leur dit encore: Prenez garde à ce que vous entendez. On vous mesurera avec la mesure dont vous vous serez servis, et on y ajoutera pour vous.

²⁴ויאמר אליהם ראו מה אתם שמעים במדה אשר אתם מודדים בה ימד לכם ועוד יוסף לכם השמעים׃

²⁵For he that hath, to him shall be given: and he that hath not, from him shall be taken away even that which he hath.

²⁵Car on donnera à celui qui a; mais à celui qui n'a pas on ôtera même ce qu'il a.

²⁵כי מי שיש לו נתון ינתן לו ומי שאין לו גם את אשר יש לו יקח ממנו׃

²⁶And he said, So is the kingdom of God, as if a man should cast seed upon the earth;

²⁶Il dit encore: Il en est du royaume de Dieu comme quand un homme jette de la semence en terre;

²⁶ויאמר מלכות האלהים היא כאשר ישליך איש זרע על האדמה׃

²⁷and should sleep and rise night and day, and the seed should spring up and grow, he knoweth not how.

²⁷qu'il dorme ou qu'il veille, nuit et jour, la semence germe et croît sans qu'il sache comment.

²⁷וישן וקם לילה ויום והזרע יצמח וגדל והוא לא ידע׃

²⁸The earth beareth fruit of herself; first the blade, then the ear, then the full grain in the ear.

²⁸La terre produit d'elle-même, d'abord l'herbe, puis l'épi, puis le grain tout formé dans l'épi;

²⁸כי הארץ מאליה מוציאה פריה את הדשא ראשונה ואחריו את השבלת ואחרי כן את החטה המלאה בשבלת׃

²⁹But when the fruit is ripe, straightway he putteth forth the sickle, because the harvest is come.

²⁹et, dès que le fruit est mûr, on y met la faucille, car la moisson est là.

²⁹וכאשר גמל הפרי ימהר לשלח את המגל כי בשל הקציר׃

³⁰And he said, How shall we liken the kingdom of God? or in what parable shall we set it forth?

³⁰Il dit encore: A quoi comparerons-nous le royaume de Dieu, ou par quelle parabole le représenterons-nous?

³⁰ויאמר אל מה נדמה את מלכות האלהים ובאי זה משל נמשילנה׃

³¹It is like a grain of mustard seed, which, when it is sown upon the earth, though it be less than all the seeds that are upon the earth,

³¹Il est semblable à un grain de sénevé, qui, lorsqu'on le sème en terre, est la plus petite de toutes les semences qui sont sur la terre;

³¹כגרגר של חרדל אשר יזרע באדמה והוא קטן מכל הזרעים אשר על הארץ׃

³²yet when it is sown, groweth up, and becometh greater than all the herbs, and putteth out great branches; so that the birds of the heaven can lodge under the shadow thereof.

³²mais, lorsqu'il a été semé, il monte, devient plus grand que tous les légumes, et pousse de grandes branches, en sorte que les oiseaux du ciel peuvent habiter sous son ombre.

³²ואחרי הזרעו יעלה ויגדל על כל הירקות ועשה ענפים גדולים עד אשר יוכלו עוף השמים לקנן בצלו׃

³³And with many such parables spake he the word unto them, as they were able to hear it;

³³C'est par beaucoup de paraboles de ce genre qu'il leur annonçait la parole, selon qu'ils étaient capables de l'entendre.

³³ובמשלים רבים כאלה דבר אליהם את הדבר כפי אשר יכלו לשמע׃

³⁴and without a parable spake he not unto them: but privately to his own disciples he expounded all things.

³⁴Il ne leur parlait point sans parabole; mais, en particulier, il expliquait tout à ses disciples.

³⁴ובבלי משל לא דבר אליהם והיה בהיותו עם תלמידיו לבדם יבאר להם את הכל׃

³⁵And on that day, when even was come, he saith unto them, Let us go over unto the other side.

³⁵Ce même jour, sur le soir, Jésus leur dit: Passons à l'autre bord.

³⁵ויאמר אליהם ביום ההוא לפנות ערב נעברה העבר׃

³⁶And leaving the multitude, they take him with them, even as he was, in the boat. And other boats were with him.

³⁶Après avoir renvoyé la foule, ils l'emmenèrent dans la barque où il se trouvait; il y avait aussi d'autres barques avec lui.

³⁶ויעזבו את המון העם ויקחו אתו כאשר הוא באניה וגם אניות אחרות הלכו עמו׃

³⁷And there ariseth a great storm of wind, and the waves beat into the boat, insomuch that the boat was now filling.

³⁷Il s'éleva un grand tourbillon, et les flots se jetaient dans la barque, au point qu'elle se remplissait déjà.

³⁷ותקם רוח סערה גדולה וישטפו הגלים אל תוך האניה עד אשר כמעט נמלאה׃

³⁸And he himself was in the stern, asleep on the cushion: and they awake him, and say unto him, Teacher, carest thou not that we perish?

³⁸Et lui, il dormait à la poupe sur le coussin. Ils le réveillèrent, et lui dirent: Maître, ne t'inquiètes-tu pas de ce que nous périssons?

³⁸והוא ישן על הכסת באחרי האניה ויעירו אותו ויאמרו אליו רבי האינך דאג לנו כי נאבד׃

³⁹And he awoke, and rebuked the wind, and said unto the sea, Peace, be still. And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm.

³⁹S'étant réveillé, il menaça le vent, et dit à la mer: Silence! tais-toi! Et le vent cessa, et il y eut un grand calme.

³⁹ויעור ויגער ברוח ויאמר אל הים הס ודם ותשך הרוח ותהי דממה גדולה׃

⁴⁰And he said unto them, Why are ye fearful? have ye not yet faith?

⁴⁰Puis il leur dit: Pourquoi avez-vous ainsi peur? Comment n'avez-vous point de foi?

⁴⁰ויאמר אליהם למה ככה אתם חרדים איך אין לכם אמונה׃

⁴¹And they feared exceedingly, and said one to another, Who then is this, that even the wind and the sea obey him?

⁴¹Ils furent saisis d'une grande frayeur, et ils se dirent les uns aux autres: Quel est donc celui-ci, à qui obéissent même le vent et la mer?

⁴¹וייראו יראה גדולה ויאמרו איש אל רעהו מי אפוא הוא אשר גם הרוח והים שמעים לו׃
