¹And they came to the other side of the sea, into the country of the Gerasenes.

¹Ils arrivèrent à l'autre bord de la mer, dans le pays des Gadaréniens.

¹ויבאו אל עבר הים אל ארץ הגדרים׃

²And when he was come out of the boat, straightway there met him out of the tombs a man with an unclean spirit,

²Aussitôt que Jésus fut hors de la barque, il vint au-devant de lui un homme, sortant des sépulcres, et possédé d'un esprit impur.

²והוא יצא מן האניה והנה איש בא לקראתו מבין הקברים אשר רוח טמאה בו׃

³who had his dwelling in the tombs: and no man could any more bind him, no, not with a chain;

³Cet homme avait sa demeure dans les sépulcres, et personne ne pouvait plus le lier, même avec une chaîne.

³ומושבו בקברים וגם בעבתים לא יכל איש לאסרו׃

⁴because that he had been often bound with fetters and chains, and the chains had been rent asunder by him, and the fetters broken in pieces: and no man had strength to tame him.

⁴Car souvent il avait eu les fers aux pieds et avait été lié de chaînes, mais il avait rompu les chaînes et brisé les fers, et personne n'avait la force de le dompter.

⁴כי פעמים הרבה אסרוהו בכבלים ובעבתים וינתק את העבתים וישבר את הכבלים ואין איש יכל לכבשו׃

⁵And always, night and day, in the tombs and in the mountains, he was crying out, and cutting himself with stones.

⁵Il était sans cesse, nuit et jour, dans les sépulcres et sur les montagnes, criant, et se meurtrissant avec des pierres.

⁵ותמיד לילה ויומם היה בהרים ובקברים צעק ופצע את עצמו באבנים׃

⁶And when he saw Jesus from afar, he ran and worshipped him;

⁶Ayant vu Jésus de loin, il accourut, se prosterna devant lui,

⁶ויהי כראותו את ישוע מרחוק וירץ וישתחו לו׃

⁷and crying out with a loud voice, he saith, What have I to do with thee, Jesus, thou Son of the Most High God? I adjure thee by God, torment me not.

⁷et s'écria d'une voix forte: Qu'y a-t-il entre moi et toi, Jésus, Fils du Dieu Très-Haut? Je t'en conjure au nom de Dieu, ne me tourmente pas.

⁷ויצעק בקול גדול ויאמר מה לי ולך ישוע בן אל עליון באלהים אני משביעך אשר לא תענני׃

⁸For he said unto him, Come forth, thou unclean spirit, out of the man.

⁸Car Jésus lui disait: Sors de cet homme, esprit impur!

⁸כי הוא אמר אליו צא רוח טמא מן האדם הזה׃

⁹And he asked him, What is thy name? And he saith unto him, My name is Legion; for we are many.

⁹Et, il lui demanda: Quel est ton nom? Légion est mon nom, lui répondit-il, car nous sommes plusieurs.

⁹וישאל אתו מה שמך ויען ויאמר לגיון שמי כי רבים אנחנו׃

¹⁰And he besought him much that he would not send them away out of the country.

¹⁰Et il le priait instamment de ne pas les envoyer hors du pays.

¹⁰ויתחנן אליו מאד לבלתי שלחם אל מחוץ לארץ׃

¹¹Now there was there on the mountain side a great herd of swine feeding.

¹¹Il y avait là, vers la montagne, un grand troupeau de pourceaux qui paissaient.

¹¹ועדר חזירים רבים היה שם במרעה ההרים׃

¹²And they besought him, saying, Send us into the swine, that we may enter into them.

¹²Et les démons le prièrent, disant: Envoie-nous dans ces pourceaux, afin que nous entrions en eux.

¹²ויתחננו לו כל השדים לאמר שלחנו אל החזירים ונבאה אל תוכם׃

¹³And he gave them leave. And the unclean spirits came out, and entered into the swine: and the herd rushed down the steep into the sea, [in number] about two thousand; and they were drowned in the sea.

¹³Il le leur permit. Et les esprits impurs sortirent, entrèrent dans les pourceaux, et le troupeau se précipita des pentes escarpées dans la mer: il y en avait environ deux mille, et ils se noyèrent dans la mer.

¹³וינח להם ויצאו רוחות הטמאה ויבאו בחזירים וישתער העדר מן המורד אל הים כאלפים במספר ויטבעו בים׃

¹⁴And they that fed them fled, and told it in the city, and in the country. And they came to see what it was that had come to pass.

¹⁴Ceux qui les faisaient paître s'enfuirent, et répandirent la nouvelle dans la ville et dans les campagnes. Les gens allèrent voir ce qui était arrivé.

¹⁴וינוסו רעי החזירים ויגידו זאת בעיר ובשדות ויצאו לראות מה נהיתה׃

¹⁵And they come to Jesus, and behold him that was possessed with demons sitting, clothed and in his right mind, [even] him that had the legion: and they were afraid.

¹⁵Ils vinrent auprès de Jésus, et ils virent le démoniaque, celui qui avait eu la légion, assis, vêtu, et dans son bon sens; et ils furent saisis de frayeur.

¹⁵ויבאו אל ישוע ויראו את אחוז השדים אשר הלגיון בו והוא יושב מלבש וטוב שכל וייראו׃

¹⁶And they that saw it declared unto them how it befell him that was possessed with demons, and concerning the swine.

¹⁶Ceux qui avaient vu ce qui s'était passé leur racontèrent ce qui était arrivé au démoniaque et aux pourceaux.

¹⁶ויספרו להם הראים את אשר נעשה לאחוז השדים ואת דבר החזירים׃

¹⁷And they began to beseech him to depart from their borders.

¹⁷Alors ils se mirent à supplier Jésus de quitter leur territoire.

¹⁷ויחלו להתחנן לו לסור מגבוליהם׃

¹⁸And as he was entering into the boat, he that had been possessed with demons besought him that he might be with him.

¹⁸Comme il montait dans la barque, celui qui avait été démoniaque lui demanda la permission de rester avec lui.

¹⁸ויהי ברדתו אל האניה התחנן אליו האיש אשר היה אחוז שדים לתתו לשבת עמו׃

¹⁹And he suffered him not, but saith unto him, Go to thy house unto thy friends, and tell them how great things the Lord hath done for thee, and [how] he had mercy on thee.

¹⁹Jésus ne le lui permit pas, mais il lui dit: Va dans ta maison, vers les tiens, et raconte-leur tout ce que le Seigneur t'a fait, et comment il a eu pitié de toi.

¹⁹ולא הניח לו כי אם אמר אליו שוב לביתך אל בני משפחתך והגד להם את הגדלות אשר עשה לך יהוה ויחנך׃

²⁰And he went his way, and began to publish in Decapolis how great things Jesus had done for him: and all men marvelled.

²⁰Il s'en alla, et se mit à publier dans la Décapole tout ce que Jésus avait fait pour lui. Et tous furent dans l'étonnement.

²⁰וילך לו ויחל לקרא בעשר הערים את הגדלות אשר עשה לו ישוע ויתמהו כלם׃

²¹And when Jesus had crossed over again in the boat unto the other side, a great multitude was gathered unto him; and he was by the sea.

²¹Jésus dans la barque regagna l'autre rive, où une grande foule s'assembla près de lui. Il était au bord de la mer.

²¹וישב ישוע לעבר באניה אל עבר הים ויקהל אליו המון רב והוא על שפת הים׃

²²And there cometh one of the rulers of the synagogue, Jairus by name; and seeing him, he falleth at his feet,

²²Alors vint un des chefs de la synagogue, nommé Jaïrus, qui, l'ayant aperçu, se jeta à ses pieds,

²²והנה בא אחד מראשי הכנסת ושמו יאיר וירא אתו ויפל לרגליו׃

²³and beseecheth him much, saying, My little daughter is at the point of death: [I pray thee], that thou come and lay thy hands on her, that she may be made whole, and live.

²³et lui adressa cette instante prière: Ma petite fille est à l'extrémité, viens, impose-lui les mains, afin qu'elle soit sauvée et qu'elle vive.

²³ויתחנן אליו מאד לאמר בתי הקטנה חלתה עד למות אנא בוא נא ושים ידיך עליה למען תרפא ותחיה׃

²⁴And he went with him; and a great multitude followed him, and they thronged him.

²⁴Jésus s'en alla avec lui. Et une grande foule le suivait et le pressait.

²⁴וילך אתו וילכו אחריו המון רב וידחקהו׃

²⁵And a woman, who had an issue of blood twelve years,

²⁵Or, il y avait une femme atteinte d'une perte de sang depuis douze ans.

²⁵ואשה היתה זבת דם שתים עשרה שנה׃

²⁶and had suffered many things of many physicians, and had spent all that she had, and was nothing bettered, but rather grew worse,

²⁶Elle avait beaucoup souffert entre les mains de plusieurs médecins, elle avait dépensé tout ce qu'elle possédait, et elle n'avait éprouvé aucun soulagement, mais était allée plutôt en empirant.

²⁶והיא סבלה הרבה תחת ידי רפאים רבים והוציאה את כל אשר לה ולא להועיל ויהי חליה חזק מאד׃

²⁷having heard the things concerning Jesus, came in the crowd behind, and touched his garment.

²⁷Ayant entendu parler de Jésus, elle vint dans la foule par derrière, et toucha son vêtement.

²⁷ויהי כשמעה את שמע ישוע ותבוא בהמון העם מאחריו ותגע בבגדו׃

²⁸For she said, If I touch but his garments, I shall be made whole.

²⁸Car elle disait: Si je puis seulement toucher ses vêtements, je serai guérie.

²⁸כי אמרה רק אם אגע בבגדיו אושע׃

²⁹And straightway the fountain of her blood was dried up; and she felt in her body that she was healed of her plague.

²⁹Au même instant la perte de sang s'arrêta, et elle sentit dans son corps qu'elle était guérie de son mal.

²⁹וייבש מקור דמיה פתאם ותבן בבשרה כי נרפא נגעה׃

³⁰And straightway Jesus, perceiving in himself that the power [proceeding] from him had gone forth, turned him about in the crowd, and said, Who touched my garments?

³⁰Jésus connut aussitôt en lui-même qu'une force était sortie de lui; et, se retournant au milieu de la foule, il dit: Qui a touché mes vêtements?

³⁰וברגע ידע ישוע בנפשו כי גבורה יצאה ממנו ויפן בתוך העם ויאמר מי נגע בבגדי׃

³¹And his disciples said unto him, Thou seest the multitude thronging thee, and sayest thou, Who touched me?

³¹Ses disciples lui dirent: Tu vois la foule qui te presse, et tu dis: Qui m'a touché?

³¹ויאמר אליו תלמידיו אתה ראה את ההמון דוחק אתך ואמרת מי נגע בי׃

³²And he looked round about to see her that had done this thing.

³²Et il regardait autour de lui, pour voir celle qui avait fait cela.

³²ויבט סביב לראות את אשר עשתה זאת׃

³³But the woman fearing and trembling, knowing what had been done to her, came and fell down before him, and told him all the truth.

³³La femme, effrayée et tremblante, sachant ce qui s'était passé en elle, vint se jeter à ses pieds, et lui dit toute la vérité.

³³ותירא האשה ותחרד כי ידעה את אשר נעשה לה ותבא ותפל לפניו ותגד לו את האמת כלה׃

³⁴And he said unto her, Daughter, thy faith hath made thee whole; go in peace, and be whole of thy plague.

³⁴Mais Jésus lui dit: Ma fille, ta foi t'a sauvée; va en paix, et sois guérie de ton mal.

³⁴ויאמר אליה בתי אמונתך הושיעה לך לכי לשלום וחיית מנגעך׃

³⁵While he yet spake, they come from the ruler of the synagogue's [house] saying, Thy daughter is dead: why troublest thou the Teacher any further?

³⁵Comme il parlait encore, survinrent de chez le chef de la synagogue des gens qui dirent: Ta fille est morte; pourquoi importuner davantage le maître?

³⁵עודנו מדבר והנה באים מבית ראש הכנסת לאמר בתך מתה למה תטריח עוד את המורה׃

³⁶But Jesus, not heeding the word spoken, saith unto the ruler of the synagogue, Fear not, only believe.

³⁶Mais Jésus, sans tenir compte de ces paroles, dit au chef de la synagogue: Ne crains pas, crois seulement.

³⁶וכשמע ישוע את הדבר אשר דברו ויאמר אל ראש הכנסת אל תירא רק האמינה׃

³⁷And he suffered no man to follow with him, save Peter, and James, and John the brother of James.

³⁷Et il ne permit à personne de l'accompagner, si ce n'est à Pierre, à Jacques, et à Jean, frère de Jacques.

³⁷ולא הניח לאיש ללכת אתו בלתי אם לפטרוס וליעקב וליוחנן אחי יעקב׃

³⁸And they come to the house of the ruler of the synagogue; and he beholdeth a tumult, and [many] weeping and wailing greatly.

³⁸Ils arrivèrent à la maison du chef de la synagogue, où Jésus vit une foule bruyante et des gens qui pleuraient et poussaient de grands cris.

³⁸ויבא בית ראש הכנסת וירא המון הבכים והמיללים הרבה׃

³⁹And when he was entered in, he saith unto them, Why make ye a tumult, and weep? the child is not dead, but sleepeth.

³⁹Il entra, et leur dit: Pourquoi faites-vous du bruit, et pourquoi pleurez-vous? L'enfant n'est pas morte, mais elle dort.

³⁹ובבאו אמר אליהם מה תהמו ותבכו הנערה לא מתה אך ישנה היא׃

⁴⁰And they laughed him to scorn. But he, having put them all forth, taketh the father of the child and her mother and them that were with him, and goeth in where the child was.

⁴⁰Et ils se moquaient de lui. Alors, ayant fait sortir tout le monde, il prit avec lui le père et la mère de l'enfant, et ceux qui l'avaient accompagné, et il entra là où était l'enfant.

⁴⁰וישחקו לו והוא גרש את כלם ויקח את אבי הנערה ואת אמה ואת אשר אתו ויבא החדרה אשר שם שכבת הנערה׃

⁴¹And taking the child by the hand, he saith unto her, Talitha cumi; which is, being interpreted, Damsel, I say unto thee, Arise.

⁴¹Il la saisit par la main, et lui dit: Talitha koumi, ce qui signifie: Jeune fille, lève-toi, je te le dis.

⁴¹ויאחז ביד הנערה ויאמר אליה טליתא קומי אשר פרושו הילדה אני אמר לך קומי נא׃

⁴²And straightway the damsel rose up, and walked; for she was twelve years old. And they were amazed straightway with a great amazement.

⁴²Aussitôt la jeune fille se leva, et se mit à marcher; car elle avait douze ans. Et ils furent dans un grand étonnement.

⁴²ומיד קמה הילדה ותתהלך והיא בת שתים עשרה שנה וישמו שמה גדולה׃

⁴³And he charged them much that no man should know this: and he commanded that [something] should be given her to eat.

⁴³Jésus leur adressa de fortes recommandations, pour que personne ne sût la chose; et il dit qu'on donnât à manger à la jeune fille.

⁴³ויזהר אותם מאד שלא יודע הדבר לאיש ויאמר לתת לה לאכול׃
