¹On that day went Jesus out of the house, and sat by the sea side.

¹Ce même jour, Jésus sortit de la maison, et s'assit au bord de la mer.

¹ויהי ביום ההוא ויצא ישוע מן הבית וישב על הים׃

²And there were gathered unto him great multitudes, so that he entered into a boat, and sat; and all the multitude stood on the beach.

²Une grande foule s'étant assemblée auprès de lui, il monta dans une barque, et il s'assit. Toute la foule se tenait sur le rivage.

²ויקהלו אליו המון עם רב וירד אל האניה וישב בה וכל העם עמדים על שפת הים׃

³And he spake to them many things in parables, saying, Behold, the sower went forth to sow;

³Il leur parla en paraboles sur beaucoup de choses, et il dit: Un semeur sortit pour semer.

³וירב לדבר אליהם במשלים לאמר הנה הזורע יצא לזרע׃

⁴and as he sowed, some [seeds] fell by the way side, and the birds came and devoured them:

⁴Comme il semait, une partie de la semence tomba le long du chemin: les oiseaux vinrent, et la mangèrent.

⁴ובזרעו נפל מן הזרע על יד הדרך ויבא העוף ויאכלהו׃

⁵and others fell upon the rocky places, where they had not much earth: and straightway they sprang up, because they had no deepness of earth:

⁵Une autre partie tomba dans les endroits pierreux, où elle n'avait pas beaucoup de terre: elle leva aussitôt, parce qu'elle ne trouva pas un sol profond;

⁵ויש אשר נפל על מקמות סלע אשר אין לו שם אדמה הרבה וימהר לצמח כי לא היה לו עמק אדמה׃

⁶and when the sun was risen, they were scorched; and because they had no root, they withered away.

⁶mais, quand le soleil parut, elle fut brûlée et sécha, faute de racines.

⁶ויהי כזרח השמש ויצרב וייבש כי לא היה לו שרש׃

⁷And others fell upon the thorns; and the thorns grew up and choked them:

⁷Une autre partie tomba parmi les épines: les épines montèrent, et l'étouffèrent.

⁷ויש אשר נפל בין הקצים ויעלו הקצים וימעכהו׃

⁸and others fell upon the good ground, and yielded fruit, some a hundredfold, some sixty, some thirty.

⁸Une autre partie tomba dans la bonne terre: elle donna du fruit, un grain cent, un autre soixante, un autre trente.

⁸ויש אשר נפל על האדמה הטובה ויתן פרי זה מאה שערים וזה ששים וזה שלשים׃

⁹He that hath ears, let him hear.

⁹Que celui qui a des oreilles pour entendre entende.

⁹מי אשר אזנים לו לשמע ישמע׃

¹⁰And the disciples came, and said unto him, Why speakest thou unto them in parables?

¹⁰Les disciples s'approchèrent, et lui dirent: Pourquoi leur parles-tu en paraboles?

¹⁰ויגשו אליו התלמידים ויאמרו למה זה במשלים תדבר אליהם׃

¹¹And he answered and said unto them, Unto you it is given to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it is not given.

¹¹Jésus leur répondit: Parce qu'il vous a été donné de connaître les mystères du royaume des cieux, et que cela ne leur a pas été donné.

¹¹ויען ויאמר כי לכם נתן לדעת את סודות מלכות השמים ולהם לא נתן׃

¹²For whosoever hath, to him shall be given, and he shall have abundance: but whosoever hath not, from him shall be taken away even that which he hath.

¹²Car on donnera à celui qui a, et il sera dans l'abondance, mais à celui qui n'a pas on ôtera même ce qu'il a.

¹²כי מי שיש לו נתן ינתן לו ויעדיף ומי שאין לו גם את אשר יש לו יקח ממנו׃

¹³Therefore speak I to them in parables; because seeing they see not, and hearing they hear not, neither do they understand.

¹³C'est pourquoi je leur parle en paraboles, parce qu'en voyant ils ne voient point, et qu'en entendant ils n'entendent ni ne comprennent.

¹³על כן במשלים אדבר אליהם כי בראתם לא יראו ובשמעם לא ישמעו אף לא יבינו׃

¹⁴And unto them is fulfilled the prophecy of Isaiah, which saith, By hearing ye shall hear, and shall in no wise understand; And seeing ye shall see, and shall in no wise perceive:

¹⁴Et pour eux s'accomplit cette prophétie d'Esaïe: Vous entendrez de vos oreilles, et vous ne comprendrez point; Vous regarderez de vos yeux, et vous ne verrez point.

¹⁴ותקים בהם נבואת ישעיהו האמרת שמעו שמוע ואל תבינו וראו ראו ואל תדעו׃

¹⁵For this people's heart is waxed gross, And their ears are dull of hearing, And their eyes they have closed; Lest haply they should perceive with their eyes, And hear with their ears, And understand with their heart, And should turn again, And I should heal them.

¹⁵Car le coeur de ce peuple est devenu insensible; Ils ont endurci leurs oreilles, et ils ont fermé leurs yeux, De peur qu'ils ne voient de leurs yeux, qu'ils n'entendent de leurs oreilles, Qu'ils ne comprennent de leur coeur, Qu'ils ne se convertissent, et que je ne les guérisse.

¹⁵כי השמן לב העם הזה ואזניו הכבד ועיניו השע פן יראה בעיניו ובאזניו ישמע ולבבו יבין ושב ורפא לו׃

¹⁶But blessed are your eyes, for they see; and your ears, for they hear.

¹⁶Mais heureux sont vos yeux, parce qu'ils voient, et vos oreilles, parce qu'elles entendent!

¹⁶ואתם אשרי עיניכם כי תראינה ואזניכם כי תשמענה׃

¹⁷For verily I say unto you, that many prophets and righteous men desired to see the things which ye see, and saw them not; and to hear the things which ye hear, and heard them not.

¹⁷Je vous le dis en vérité, beaucoup de prophètes et de justes ont désiré voir ce que vous voyez, et ne l'ont pas vu, entendre ce que vous entendez, et ne l'ont pas entendu.

¹⁷כי אמן אמר אני לכם נביאים וצדיקים רבים נכספו לראת את אשר אתם ראים ולא ראוהו ולשמע את אשר אתם שמעים ולא שמעוהו׃

¹⁸Hear then ye the parable of the sower.

¹⁸Vous donc, écoutez ce que signifie la parabole du semeur.

¹⁸לכן אתם שמעו נא את משל הזורע׃

¹⁹When any one heareth the word of the kingdom, and understandeth it not, [then] cometh the evil [one], and snatcheth away that which hath been sown in his heart. This is he that was sown by the way side.

¹⁹Lorsqu'un homme écoute la parole du royaume et ne la comprend pas, le malin vient et enlève ce qui a été semé dans son coeur: cet homme est celui qui a reçu la semence le long du chemin.

¹⁹כל איש שמע את דבר המלכות ולא יבינהו ובא הרע וחטף את הזרוע בלבבו הוא הנזרע על יד הדרך׃

²⁰And he that was sown upon the rocky places, this is he that heareth the word, and straightway with joy receiveth it;

²⁰Celui qui a reçu la semence dans les endroits pierreux, c'est celui qui entend la parole et la reçoit aussitôt avec joie;

²⁰והנזרע על הסלע הוא השמע את הדבר וימהר ויקחנו בשמחה׃

²¹yet hath he not root in himself, but endureth for a while; and when tribulation or persecution ariseth because of the word, straightway he stumbleth.

²¹mais il n'a pas de racines en lui-même, il manque de persistance, et, dès que survient une tribulation ou une persécution à cause de la parole, il y trouve une occasion de chute.

²¹אך אין לו שרש תחתיו ורק לשעה יעמד ובהיות צרה ורדיפה על אדות הדבר מיד נכשל׃

²²And he that was sown among the thorns, this is he that heareth the word; and the care of the world, and the deceitfulness of riches, choke the word, and he becometh unfruitful.

²²Celui qui a reçu la semence parmi les épines, c'est celui qui entend la parole, mais en qui les soucis du siècle et la séduction des richesses étouffent cette parole, et la rendent infructueuse.

²²והנזרע בין הקצים הוא השמע את הדבר ודאגת העולם הזה ומרמת העשר ימעכו את הדבר ופרי לא יהיה לו׃

²³And he that was sown upon the good ground, this is he that heareth the word, and understandeth it; who verily beareth fruit, and bringeth forth, some a hundredfold, some sixty, some thirty.

²³Celui qui a reçu la semence dans la bonne terre, c'est celui qui entend la parole et la comprend; il porte du fruit, et un grain en donne cent, un autre soixante, un autre trente.

²³והנזרע על האדמה הטובה הוא השמע את הדבר ומבין אתו אף יעשה פרי ונתן זה מאה שערים וזה ששים וזה שלשים׃

²⁴Another parable set he before them, saying, The kingdom of heaven is likened unto a man that sowed good seed in his field:

²⁴Il leur proposa une autre parabole, et il dit: Le royaume des cieux est semblable à un homme qui a semé une bonne semence dans son champ.

²⁴וישם לפניהם משל אחר לאמר מלכות השמים דומה לאיש אשר זרע זרע טוב בשדהו׃

²⁵but while men slept, his enemy came and sowed tares also among the wheat, and went away.

²⁵Mais, pendant que les gens dormaient, son ennemi vint, sema de l'ivraie parmi le blé, et s'en alla.

²⁵ויהי בנפל תרדמה על האנשים ויבא איבו ויזרע זונין בתוך החטים וילך לו׃

²⁶But when the blade sprang up and brought forth fruit, then appeared the tares also.

²⁶Lorsque l'herbe eut poussé et donné du fruit, l'ivraie parut aussi.

²⁶וכאשר פרח הדשא ויעש פרי ויראו גם הזונין׃

²⁷And the servants of the householder came and said unto him, Sir, didst thou not sow good seed in thy field? whence then hath it tares?

²⁷Les serviteurs du maître de la maison vinrent lui dire: Seigneur, n'as-tu pas semé une bonne semence dans ton champ? D'où vient donc qu'il y a de l'ivraie?

²⁷ויגשו עבדי בעל הבית ויאמרו אליו אדנינו הלא זרע טוב זרעת בשדך ומאין לו הזונין׃

²⁸And he said unto them, An enemy hath done this. And the servants say unto him, Wilt thou then that we go and gather them up?

²⁸Il leur répondit: C'est un ennemi qui a fait cela. Et les serviteurs lui dirent: Veux-tu que nous allions l'arracher?

²⁸ויאמר להם איש איב עשה זאת ויאמרו אליו העבדים היש את נפשך כי נלך ונלקט אתם׃

²⁹But he saith, Nay; lest haply while ye gather up the tares, ye root up the wheat with them.

²⁹Non, dit-il, de peur qu'en arrachant l'ivraie, vous ne déraciniez en même temps le blé.

²⁹ויאמר לא פן בלקטכם את הזונין תשרשו גם את החטים׃

³⁰Let both grow together until the harvest: and in the time of the harvest I will say to the reapers, Gather up first the tares, and bind them in bundles to burn them; but gather the wheat into my barn.

³⁰Laissez croître ensemble l'un et l'autre jusqu'à la moisson, et, à l'époque de la moisson, je dirai aux moissonneurs: Arrachez d'abord l'ivraie, et liez-la en gerbes pour la brûler, mais amassez le blé dans mon grenier.

³⁰הניחו אתם ויגדלו שניהם יחד עד הקציר והיה בעת הקציר אמר לקוצרים לקטו בראשונה את הזונין ואגדו אתם אגדות לשרפם ואת החטים אספו לאוצרי׃

³¹Another parable set he before them, saying, The kingdom of heaven is like unto a grain of mustard seed, which a man took, and sowed in his field:

³¹Il leur proposa une autre parabole, et il dit: Le royaume des cieux est semblable à un grain de sénevé qu'un homme a pris et semé dans son champ.

³¹וישם לפניהם משל אחר לאמר מלכות השמים דומה לגרגר של חרדל אשר לקחו איש ויזרעהו בשדהו׃

³²which indeed is less than all seeds; but when it is grown, it is greater than the herbs, and becometh a tree, so that the birds of the heaven come and lodge in the branches thereof.

³²C'est la plus petite de toutes les semences; mais, quand il a poussé, il est plus grand que les légumes et devient un arbre, de sorte que les oiseaux du ciel viennent habiter dans ses branches.

³²והוא קטן מכל הזרועים וכאשר צמח גדול הוא מן הירקות והיה לעץ עד אשר יבאו עוף השמים וקננו בענפיו׃

³³Another parable spake he unto them; The kingdom of heaven is like unto leaven, which a woman took, and hid in three measures of meal, till it was all leavened.

³³Il leur dit cette autre parabole: Le royaume des cieux est semblable à du levain qu'une femme a pris et mis dans trois mesures de farine, jusqu'à ce que la pâte soit toute levée.

³³וישא עוד משלו ויאמר מלכות השמים דומה לשאר אשר לקחתו אשה ותטמנהו בשלש סאים קמח עד כי יחמץ כלו׃

³⁴All these things spake Jesus in parables unto the multitudes; and without a parable spake he nothing unto them:

³⁴Jésus dit à la foule toutes ces choses en paraboles, et il ne lui parlait point sans parabole,

³⁴כל זאת דבר ישוע במשלים אל המון העם ובבלי משל לא דבר אליהם׃

³⁵that it might be fulfilled which was spoken through the prophet, saying, I will open my mouth in parables; I will utter things hidden from the foundation of the world.

³⁵afin que s'accomplît ce qui avait été annoncé par le prophète: J'ouvrirai ma bouche en paraboles, Je publierai des choses cachées depuis la création du monde.

³⁵למלאת את אשר דבר הנביא לאמר אפתחה במשל פי אביעה חידות מני קדם׃

³⁶Then he left the multitudes, and went into the house: and his disciples came unto him, saying, Explain unto us the parable of the tares of the field.

³⁶Alors il renvoya la foule, et entra dans la maison. Ses disciples s'approchèrent de lui, et dirent: Explique-nous la parabole de l'ivraie du champ.

³⁶אז שלח ישוע את המון העם ויבא הביתה ויגשו אליו תלמידיו ויאמרו באר נא לנו את משל זוני השדה׃

³⁷And he answered and said, He that soweth the good seed is the Son of man;

³⁷Il répondit: Celui qui sème la bonne semence, c'est le Fils de l'homme;

³⁷ויען ויאמר אליהם הזורע את הזרע הטוב הוא בן האדם׃

³⁸and the field is the world; and the good seed, these are the sons of the kingdom; and the tares are the sons of the evil [one];

³⁸le champ, c'est le monde; la bonne semence, ce sont les fils du royaume; l'ivraie, ce sont les fils du malin;

³⁸והשדה הוא העולם והזרע הטוב בני המלכות הם והזונין בני הרע המה׃

³⁹and the enemy that sowed them is the devil: and the harvest is the end of the world; and the reapers are angels.

³⁹l'ennemi qui l'a semée, c'est le diable; la moisson, c'est la fin du monde; les moissonneurs, ce sont les anges.

³⁹והאיב אשר זרעם הוא השטן והקציר הוא קץ העולם והקצרים הם המלאכים׃

⁴⁰As therefore the tares are gathered up and burned with fire; so shall it be in the end of the world.

⁴⁰Or, comme on arrache l'ivraie et qu'on la jette au feu, il en sera de même à la fin du monde.

⁴⁰והנה כאשר ילקטו הזונין ונשרפו באש כן יהיה בקץ העולם הזה׃

⁴¹The Son of man shall send forth his angels, and they shall gather out of his kingdom all things that cause stumbling, and them that do iniquity,

⁴¹Le Fils de l'homme enverra ses anges, qui arracheront de son royaume tous les scandales et ceux qui commettent l'iniquité:

⁴¹בן האדם ישלח את מלאכיו ולקטו ממלכותו את כל המכשלות ואת כל פעלי האון׃

⁴²and shall cast them into the furnace of fire: there shall be the weeping and the gnashing of teeth.

⁴²et ils les jetteront dans la fournaise ardente, où il y aura des pleurs et des grincements de dents.

⁴²והשליכו אתם אל תנור האש שם תהיה היללה וחרק השנים׃

⁴³Then shall the righteous shine forth as the sun in the kingdom of their Father. He that hath ears, let him hear.

⁴³Alors les justes resplendiront comme le soleil dans le royaume de leur Père. Que celui qui a des oreilles pour entendre entende.

⁴³אז יזהירו הצדיקים כשמש במלכות אביהם מי אשר אזנים לו לשמע ישמע׃

⁴⁴The kingdom of heaven is like unto a treasure hidden in the field; which a man found, and hid; and in his joy he goeth and selleth all that he hath, and buyeth that field.

⁴⁴Le royaume des cieux est encore semblable à un trésor caché dans un champ. L'homme qui l'a trouvé le cache; et, dans sa joie, il va vendre tout ce qu'il a, et achète ce champ.

⁴⁴עוד דומה מלכות השמים לאוצר טמון בשדה אשר מצאו איש ויטמנהו ובשמחתו ילך ומכר את כל אשר לו וקנה את השדה ההוא׃

⁴⁵Again, the kingdom of heaven is like unto a man that is a merchant seeking goodly pearls:

⁴⁵Le royaume des cieux est encore semblable à un marchand qui cherche de belles perles.

⁴⁵עוד דומה מלכות השמים לסחר המבקש מרגליות טבות׃

⁴⁶and having found one pearl of great price, he went and sold all that he had, and bought it.

⁴⁶Il a trouvé une perle de grand prix; et il est allé vendre tout ce qu'il avait, et l'a achetée.

⁴⁶וכאשר מצא מרגלית אחת יקרה מאד הלך לו וימכר את כל אשר לו ויקן אתה׃

⁴⁷Again, the kingdom of heaven is like unto a net, that was cast into the sea, and gathered of every kind:

⁴⁷Le royaume des cieux est encore semblable à un filet jeté dans la mer et ramassant des poissons de toute espèce.

⁴⁷עוד דומה מלכות השמים למכמרת אשר הורדה לים ומינים שונים יאספו לתוכה׃

⁴⁸which, when it was filled, they drew up on the beach; and they sat down, and gathered the good into vessels, but the bad they cast away.

⁴⁸Quand il est rempli, les pêcheurs le tirent; et, après s'être assis sur le rivage, ils mettent dans des vases ce qui est bon, et ils jettent ce qui est mauvais.

⁴⁸וכאשר נמלאה העלו אתה אל שפת הים וישבו וילקטו את המינים הטובים לתוך הכלים ואת המשחתים השליכו חוצה׃

⁴⁹So shall it be in the end of the world: the angels shall come forth, and sever the wicked from among the righteous,

⁴⁹Il en sera de même à la fin du monde. Les anges viendront séparer les méchants d'avec les justes,

⁴⁹כן יהיה בקץ העולם יצאו המלאכים והבדילו את הרשעים מתוך הצדיקים׃

⁵⁰and shall cast them into the furnace of fire: there shall be the weeping and the gnashing of teeth.

⁵⁰et ils les jetteront dans la fournaise ardente, où il y aura des pleurs et des grincements de dents.

⁵⁰והשליכום אל תנור האש שם תהיה היללה וחרק השנים׃

⁵¹Have ye understood all these things? They say unto him, Yea.

⁵¹Avez-vous compris toutes ces choses? -Oui, répondirent-ils.

⁵¹ויאמר אליהם ישוע האתם הבינותם את כל זאת ויאמרו אליו כן אדנינו׃

⁵²And he said unto them, Therefore every scribe who hath been made a disciple to the kingdom of heaven is like unto a man that is a householder, who bringeth forth out of his treasure things new and old.

⁵²Et il leur dit: C'est pourquoi, tout scribe instruit de ce qui regarde le royaume des cieux est semblable à un maître de maison qui tire de son trésor des choses nouvelles et des choses anciennes.

⁵²ויאמר אליהם על כן כל סופר המלמד למלכות השמים דומה לאיש בעל הבית המוציא מאוצרו חדשות וישנות׃

⁵³And it came to pass, when Jesus had finished these parables, he departed thence.

⁵³Lorsque Jésus eut achevé ces paraboles, il partit de là.

⁵³ויהי ככלות ישוע את המשלים האלה ויעבר משם׃

⁵⁴And coming into his own country he taught them in their synagogue, insomuch that they were astonished, and said, Whence hath this man this wisdom, and these mighty works?

⁵⁴S'étant rendu dans sa patrie, il enseignait dans la synagogue, de sorte que ceux qui l'entendirent étaient étonnés et disaient: D'où lui viennent cette sagesse et ces miracles?

⁵⁴ויבא לארצו וילמד אתם בבית כנסתם עד כי השתוממו ויאמרו מאין לזה החכמה הזאת והגבורות׃

⁵⁵Is not this the carpenter's son? is not his mother called Mary? and his brethren, James, and Joseph, and Simon, and Judas?

⁵⁵N'est-ce pas le fils du charpentier? n'est-ce pas Marie qui est sa mère? Jacques, Joseph, Simon et Jude, ne sont-ils pas ses frères?

⁵⁵הלא זה הוא בן החרש הלא אמו שמה מרים ואחיו יעקב ויוסי ושמעון ויהודה׃

⁵⁶And his sisters, are they not all with us? Whence then hath this man all these things?

⁵⁶et ses soeurs ne sont-elles pas toutes parmi nous? D'où lui viennent donc toutes ces choses?

⁵⁶ואחיותיו הלא כלן אתנו הן ומאין איפוא לו כל אלה׃

⁵⁷And they were offended in him. But Jesus said unto them, A prophet is not without honor, save in his own country, and in his own house.

⁵⁷Et il était pour eux une occasion de chute. Mais Jésus leur dit: Un prophète n'est méprisé que dans sa patrie et dans sa maison.

⁵⁷ויהי להם למכשול ויאמר ישוע אליהם אין הנביא נקלה כי אם בארצו ובביתו׃

⁵⁸And he did not many mighty works there because of their unbelief.

⁵⁸Et il ne fit pas beaucoup de miracles dans ce lieu, à cause de leur incrédulité.

⁵⁸ולא עשה שם גבורות רבות מפני חסר אמונתם׃
