1Now when Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judaea in the days of Herod the king, behold, Wise-men from the east came to Jerusalem, saying,
1Jésus étant né à Bethléhem en Judée, au temps du roi Hérode, voici des mages d'Orient arrivèrent à Jérusalem,
1ויהי כאשר נולד ישוע בבית לחם יהודה בימי הורדוס המלך ויבאו מגושים מארץ מזרח ירושלימה לאמר׃
2Where is he that is born King of the Jews? for we saw his star in the east, and are come to worship him.
2et dirent: Où est le roi des Juifs qui vient de naître? car nous avons vu son étoile en Orient, et nous sommes venus pour l'adorer.
2איה מלך היהודים הנולד כי ראינו את כוכבו במזרח ונבא להשתחות לו׃
3And when Herod the king heard it, he was troubled, and all Jerusalem with him.
3Le roi Hérode, ayant appris cela, fut troublé, et tout Jérusalem avec lui.
3ויהי כשמע הורדוס המלך את דבריהם ויבהל הוא וכל ירושלים עמו׃
4And gathering together all the chief priests and scribes of the people, he inquired of them where the Christ should be born.
4Il assembla tous les principaux sacrificateurs et les scribes du peuple, et il s'informa auprès d'eux où devait naître le Christ.
4ויקהל את כל ראשי הכהנים וסופרי העם וידרש מאתם לאמר איפה יולד המשיח׃
5And they said unto him, In Bethlehem of Judaea: for thus it is written through the prophet,
5Ils lui dirent: A Bethléhem en Judée; car voici ce qui a été écrit par le prophète:
5ויאמרו לו בבית לחם יהודה כי כן כתוב ביד הנביא׃
6And thou Bethlehem, land of Judah, Art in no wise least among the princes of Judah: For out of thee shall come forth a governor, Who shall be shepherd of my people Israel.
6Et toi, Bethléhem, terre de Juda, Tu n'es certes pas la moindre entre les principales villes de Juda, Car de toi sortira un chef Qui paîtra Israël, mon peuple.
6ואתה בית לחם ארץ יהודה אינך צעיר באלפי יהודה כי ממך יצא מושל אשר ירעה את עמי ישראל׃
7Then Herod privily called the Wise-men, and learned of them exactly what time the star appeared.
7Alors Hérode fit appeler en secret les mages, et s'enquit soigneusement auprès d'eux depuis combien de temps l'étoile brillait.
7אז קרא הורדוס למגושים בסתר ויחקר אתם לדעת עת הראות הכוכב׃
8And he sent them to Bethlehem, and said, Go and search out exactly concerning the young child; and when ye have found [him,] bring me word, that I also may come and worship him.
8Puis il les envoya à Bethléhem, en disant: Allez, et prenez des informations exactes sur le petit enfant; quand vous l'aurez trouvé, faites-le-moi savoir, afin que j'aille aussi moi-même l'adorer.
8וישלחם בית לחם ויאמר לכו חקרו היטב על דבר הילד והיה כי תמצאון אתו והגדתם לי ואבאה להשתחות לו גם אני׃
9And they, having heard the king, went their way; and lo, the star, which they saw in the east, went before them, till it came and stood over where the young child was.
9Après avoir entendu le roi, ils partirent. Et voici, l'étoile qu'ils avaient vue en Orient marchait devant eux jusqu'à ce qu'étant arrivée au-dessus du lieu où était le petit enfant, elle s'arrêta.
9ויהי כשמעם את דברי המלך וילכו והנה הכוכב אשר ראו במזרח דרך לפניהם עד באו אל מקום אשר שם הילד ויעמד ממעל לו׃
10And when they saw the star, they rejoiced with exceeding great joy.
10Quand ils aperçurent l'étoile, ils furent saisis d'une très grande joie.
10ויראו את הכוכב וישמחו שמחה גדולה עד מאד׃
11And they came into the house and saw the young child with Mary his mother; and they fell down and worshipped him; and opening their treasures they offered unto him gifts, gold and frankincense and myrrh.
11Ils entrèrent dans la maison, virent le petit enfant avec Marie, sa mère, se prosternèrent et l'adorèrent; ils ouvrirent ensuite leurs trésors, et lui offrirent en présent de l'or, de l'encens et de la myrrhe.
11ויבאו הביתה וימצאו את הילד עם מרים אמו ויפל על פניהם וישתחוו לו ויפתחו את אוצרותם ויקריבו לו מנחה זהב ולבונה ומר׃
12And being warned [of God] in a dream that they should not return to Herod, they departed into their own country another way.
12Puis, divinement avertis en songe de ne pas retourner vers Hérode, ils regagnèrent leur pays par un autre chemin.
12ויצוו בחלום לבלתי שוב אל הורדוס וילכו בדרך אחר אל ארצם׃
13Now when they were departed, behold, an angel of the Lord appeareth to Joseph in a dream, saying, Arise and take the young child and his mother, and flee into Egypt, and be thou there until I tell thee: for Herod will seek the young child to destroy him.
13Lorsqu'ils furent partis, voici, un ange du Seigneur apparut en songe à Joseph, et dit: Lève-toi, prends le petit enfant et sa mère, fuis en Egypte, et restes-y jusqu'à ce que je te parle; car Hérode cherchera le petit enfant pour le faire périr.
13הם הלכו משם והנה מלאך יהוה נראה אל יוסף בחלום לאמר קום קח את הילד ואת אמו וברח לך מצרימה והיה שם עד אשר אמר אליך כי הורדוס צדה את הילד לאבדו׃
14And he arose and took the young child and his mother by night, and departed into Egypt;
14Joseph se leva, prit de nuit le petit enfant et sa mère, et se retira en Egypte.
14ויקם ויקח את הילד ואת אמו בלילה ויברח מצרימה׃
15and was there until the death of Herod: that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the Lord through the prophet, saying, Out of Egypt did I call my son.
15Il y resta jusqu'à la mort d'Hérode, afin que s'accomplît ce que le Seigneur avait annoncé par le prophète: J'ai appelé mon fils hors d'Egypte.
15ויהי שם עד מות הורדוס למלאת את אשר דבר יהוה ביד הנביא לאמר ממצרים קראתי לבני׃
16Then Herod, when he saw that he was mocked of the Wise-men, was exceeding wroth, and sent forth, and slew all the male children that were in Bethlehem, and in all the borders thereof, from two years old and under, according to the time which he had exactly learned of the Wise-men.
16Alors Hérode, voyant qu'il avait été joué par les mages, se mit dans une grande colère, et il envoya tuer tous les enfants de deux ans et au-dessous qui étaient à Bethléhem et dans tout son territoire, selon la date dont il s'était soigneusement enquis auprès des mages.
16וירא הורדוס כי התלו בו המגושים ויקצף מאד וישלח וימת את כל הילדים אשר בבית לחם ובכל גבוליה מבן שנתים ולמטה כפי העת אשר חקרה מפי המגושים׃
17Then was fulfilled that which was spoken through Jeremiah the prophet, saying,
17Alors s'accomplit ce qui avait été annoncé par Jérémie, le prophète:
17וימלא הדבר הנאמר בפי ירמיה הנביא לאמר׃
18A voice was heard in Ramah, Weeping and great mourning, Rachel weeping for her children; And she would not be comforted, because they are not.
18On a entendu des cris à Rama, Des pleurs et de grandes lamentations: Rachel pleure ses enfants, Et n'a pas voulu être consolée, Parce qu'ils ne sont plus.
18קול ברמה נשמע נהי ובכי תמרורים רחל מבכה על בניה מאנה להנחם כי אינם׃
19But when Herod was dead, behold, an angel of the Lord appeareth in a dream to Joseph in Egypt, saying,
19Quand Hérode fut mort, voici, un ange du Seigneur apparut en songe à Joseph, en Egypte,
19ויהי אחרי מות הורדוס והנה מלאך יהוה נראה בחלום אל יוסף בארץ מצרים׃
20Arise and take the young child and his mother, and go into the land of Israel: for they are dead that sought the young child's life.
20et dit: Lève-toi, prends le petit enfant et sa mère, et va dans le pays d'Israël, car ceux qui en voulaient à la vie du petit enfant sont morts.
20ויאמר אליו קום קח את הילד ואת אמו ולך שוב אל ארץ ישראל כי מתו המבקשים את נפש הילד׃
21And he arose and took the young child and his mother, and came into the land of Israel.
21Joseph se leva, prit le petit enfant et sa mère, et alla dans le pays d'Israël.
21ויקם ויקח את הילד ואת אמו ויבא ארצה ישראל׃
22But when he heard that Archelaus was reigning over Judaea in the room of his father Herod, he was afraid to go thither; and being warned [of God] in a dream, he withdrew into the parts of Galilee,
22Mais, ayant appris qu'Archélaüs régnait sur la Judée à la place d'Hérode, son père, il craignit de s'y rendre; et, divinement averti en songe, il se retira dans le territoire de la Galilée,
22וכשמעו כי ארקלוס מלך ביהודה תחת הורדוס אביו ירא ללכת שמה ויצוה בחלום וילך לו אל ארצות הגליל׃
23and came and dwelt in a city called Nazareth; that it might be fulfilled which was spoken through the prophets, that he should be called a Nazarene.
23et vint demeurer dans une ville appelée Nazareth, afin que s'accomplît ce qui avait été annoncé par les prophètes: Il sera appelé Nazaréen.
23ויבא וישב בעיר אשר שמה נצרת למלאת הדבר הנאמר על פי הנביאים כי נצרי יקרא לו׃
