¹And Jesus answered and spake again in parables unto them, saying,

¹Jésus, prenant la parole, leur parla de nouveau en paraboles, et il dit:

¹ויען ישוע ויסף דבר במשלים אליהם לאמר׃

²The kingdom of heaven is likened unto a certain king, who made a marriage feast for his son,

²Le royaume des cieux est semblable à un roi qui fit des noces pour son fils.

²דומה מלכות השמים למלך בשר ודם אשר עשה חתנה לבנו׃

³and sent forth his servants to call them that were bidden to the marriage feast: and they would not come.

³Il envoya ses serviteurs appeler ceux qui étaient invités aux noces; mais ils ne voulurent pas venir.

³וישלח את עבדיו לקרא הקרואים אל החתנה ולא אבו לבוא׃

⁴Again he sent forth other servants, saying, Tell them that are bidden, Behold, I have made ready my dinner; my oxen and my fatlings are killed, and all things are ready: come to the marriage feast.

⁴Il envoya encore d'autres serviteurs, en disant: Dites aux conviés: Voici, j'ai préparé mon festin; mes boeufs et mes bêtes grasses sont tués, tout est prêt, venez aux noces.

⁴ויסף שלח עבדים אחרים לאמר אמרו אל הקרואים הנה ערכתי את סעודתי שורי ומריאי טבוחים והכל מוכן באו אל החתנה׃

⁵But they made light of it, and went their ways, one to his own farm, another to his merchandise;

⁵Mais, sans s'inquiéter de l'invitation, ils s'en allèrent, celui-ci à son champ, celui-là à son trafic;

⁵והם לא שתו לבם לזאת וילכו להם זה אל שדהו וזה אל מסחרו׃

⁶and the rest laid hold on his servants, and treated them shamefully, and killed them.

⁶et les autres se saisirent des serviteurs, les outragèrent et les tuèrent.

⁶והנשארים תפשו את עבדיו ויתעללו בם ויהרגום׃

⁷But the king was wroth; and he sent his armies, and destroyed those murderers, and burned their city.

⁷Le roi fut irrité; il envoya ses troupes, fit périr ces meurtriers, et brûla leur ville.

⁷ויקצף המלך וישלח צבאותיו ויאבד את המרצחים ההם ואת עירם שרף באש׃

⁸Then saith he to his servants, The wedding is ready, but they that were bidden were not worthy.

⁸Alors il dit à ses serviteurs: Les noces sont prêtes; mais les conviés n'en étaient pas dignes.

⁸אז אמר אל עבדיו הן החתנה מוכנה והקרואים לא היו ראוים לה׃

⁹Go ye therefore unto the partings of the highways, and as many as ye shall find, bid to the marriage feast.

⁹Allez donc dans les carrefours, et appelez aux noces tous ceux que vous trouverez.

⁹לכן לכו נא אל ראשי הדרכים וכל איש אשר תמצאו קראו אתו אל החתנה׃

¹⁰And those servants went out into the highways, and gathered together all as many as they found, both bad and good: and the wedding was filled with guests.

¹⁰Ces serviteurs allèrent dans les chemins, rassemblèrent tous ceux qu'ils trouvèrent, méchants et bons, et la salle des noces fut pleine de convives.

¹⁰ויצאו העבדים ההם אל הדרכים ויאספו את כל אשר מצאו גם רעים גם טובים וימלא בית החתנה מסבים׃

¹¹But when the king came in to behold the guests, he saw there a man who had not on a wedding-garment:

¹¹Le roi entra pour voir ceux qui étaient à table, et il aperçut là un homme qui n'avait pas revêtu un habit de noces.

¹¹ויהי כבוא המלך לראות את המסבים וירא בהם איש ולא היה לבוש בגדי חתנה׃

¹²and he saith unto him, Friend, how camest thou in hither not having a wedding-garment? And he was speechless.

¹²Il lui dit: Mon ami, comment es-tu entré ici sans avoir un habit de noces? Cet homme eut la bouche fermée.

¹²ויאמר אליו רעי איכה באת הנה ואין לך בגדי חתנה ויאלם׃

¹³Then the king said to the servants, Bind him hand and foot, and cast him out into the outer darkness; there shall be the weeping and the gnashing of teeth.

¹³Alors le roi dit aux serviteurs: Liez-lui les pieds et les mains, et jetez-le dans les ténèbres du dehors, où il y aura des pleurs et des grincements de dents.

¹³ויאמר המלך למשרתים אסרו ידיו ורגליו ונשאתם והשלכתם אותו אל החשך החיצון שם תהיה היללה וחרק השנים׃

¹⁴For many are called, but few chosen.

¹⁴Car il y a beaucoup d'appelés, mais peu d'élus.

¹⁴כי רבים הם הקרואים ומעטים הנבחרים׃

¹⁵Then went the Pharisees, and took counsel how they might ensnare him in [his] talk.

¹⁵Alors les pharisiens allèrent se consulter sur les moyens de surprendre Jésus par ses propres paroles.

¹⁵וילכו הפרושים ויתיעצו איך יכשילהו בדבר׃

¹⁶And they send to him their disciples, with the Herodians, saying, Teacher, we know that thou art true, and teachest the way of God in truth, and carest not for any one: for thou regardest not the person of men.

¹⁶Ils envoyèrent auprès de lui leurs disciples avec les hérodiens, qui dirent: Maître, nous savons que tu es vrai, et que tu enseignes la voie de Dieu selon la vérité, sans t'inquiéter de personne, car tu ne regardes pas à l'apparence des hommes.

¹⁶וישלחו אליו את תלמידיהם עם ההורדוסיים לאמר רבי ידענו כי איש אמת אתה ותורה באמת את דרך אלהים ולא תגור מפני איש כי אינך מכיר פני אדם׃

¹⁷Tell us therefore, What thinkest thou? Is it lawful to give tribute unto Caesar, or not?

¹⁷Dis-nous donc ce qu'il t'en semble: est-il permis, ou non, de payer le tribut à César?

¹⁷לכן הגידה נא לנו את דעתך הנכון לנו לתת מס אל הקיסר אם לא׃

¹⁸But Jesus perceived their wickedness, and said, Why make ye trial of me, ye hypocrites?

¹⁸Jésus, connaissant leur méchanceté, répondit: Pourquoi me tentez-vous, hypocrites?

¹⁸וישוע ידע את רשעתם ויאמר החנפים מה תנסוני׃

¹⁹Show me the tribute money. And they brought unto him a denarius.

¹⁹Montrez-moi la monnaie avec laquelle on paie le tribut. Et ils lui présentèrent un denier.

¹⁹הראוני את מטבע המס ויביאו לו דינר׃

²⁰And he saith unto them, Whose is this image and superscription?

²⁰Il leur demanda: De qui sont cette effigie et cette inscription?

²⁰ויאמר אליהם של מי הצורה הזאת והמכתב אשר עליו׃

²¹They say unto him, Caesar's. Then saith he unto them, Render therefore unto Caesar the things that are Caesar's; and unto God the things that are God's.

²¹De César, lui répondirent-ils. Alors il leur dit: Rendez donc à César ce qui est à César, et à Dieu ce qui est à Dieu.

²¹ויאמרו אליו של הקיסר ויאמר אליהם לכן תנו לקיסר את אשר לקיסר ולאלהים את אשר לאלהים׃

²²And when they heard it, they marvelled, and left him, and went away.

²²Etonnés de ce qu'ils entendaient, ils le quittèrent, et s'en allèrent.

²²וכשמעם את זאת תמהו ויעזבהו וילכו להם׃

²³On that day there came to him Sadducees, they that say that there is no resurrection: and they asked him,

²³Le même jour, les sadducéens, qui disent qu'il n'y a point de résurrection, vinrent auprès de Jésus, et lui firent cette question:

²³ביום ההוא נגשו אליו צדוקים האמרים כי אין תחית המתים וישאלו אתו לאמר׃

²⁴saying, Teacher, Moses said, If a man die, having no children, his brother shall marry his wife, and raise up seed unto his brother.

²⁴Maître, Moïse a dit: Si quelqu'un meurt sans enfants, son frère épousera sa veuve, et suscitera une postérité à son frère.

²⁴רבי הן משה אמר איש כי ימות ובנים אין לו אחיו ייבם את אשתו והקים זרע לאחיו׃

²⁵Now there were with us seven brethren: and the first married and deceased, and having no seed left his wife unto his brother;

²⁵Or, il y avait parmi nous sept frères. Le premier se maria, et mourut; et, comme il n'avait pas d'enfants, il laissa sa femme à son frère.

²⁵ואתנו היו שבעה אחים והראשון נשא אשה וימת וזרע אין לו ויעזב את אשתו לאחיו׃

²⁶in like manner the second also, and the third, unto the seventh.

²⁶Il en fut de même du second, puis du troisième, jusqu'au septième.

²⁶וכמו כן גם השני וכן גם השלישי עד השבעה׃

²⁷And after them all, the woman died.

²⁷Après eux tous, la femme mourut aussi.

²⁷ואחרי כלם מתה גם האשה׃

²⁸In the resurrection therefore whose wife shall she be of the seven? for they all had her.

²⁸A la résurrection, duquel des sept sera-t-elle donc la femme? Car tous l'ont eue.

²⁸ועתה בתחית המתים למי מן השבעה תהיה לאשה כי לכלם היתה׃

²⁹But Jesus answered and said unto them, Ye do err, not knowing the scriptures, nor the power of God.

²⁹Jésus leur répondit: Vous êtes dans l'erreur, parce que vous ne comprenez ni les Ecritures, ni la puissance de Dieu.

²⁹ויען ישוע ויאמר להם טעים אתם באשר אינכם יודעים את הכתובים וגם את גבורת האלהים׃

³⁰For in the resurrection they neither marry, nor are given in marriage, but are as angels in heaven.

³⁰Car, à la résurrection, les hommes ne prendront point de femmes, ni les femmes de maris, mais ils seront comme les anges de Dieu dans le ciel.

³⁰כי בתחית המתים לא ישאו נשים ולא תנשאנה כי אם כמלאכי אלהים בשמים יהיו׃

³¹But as touching the resurrection of the dead, have ye not read that which was spoken unto you by God, saying,

³¹Pour ce qui est de la résurrection des morts, n'avez-vous pas lu ce que Dieu vous a dit:

³¹ועל דבר תחית המתים הלא קראתם את הנאמר לכם מפי האלהים לאמר׃

³²I am the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob? God is not [the God] of the dead, but of the living.

³²Je suis le Dieu d'Abraham, le Dieu d'Isaac, et le Dieu de Jacob? Dieu n'est pas Dieu des morts, mais des vivants.

³²אנכי אלהי אברהם ואלהי יצחק ואלהי יעקב והוא איננו אלהי המתים כי אם אלהי החיים׃

³³And when the multitudes heard it, they were astonished at his teaching.

³³La foule, qui écoutait, fut frappée de l'enseignement de Jésus.

³³וישמע המון העם וישתומממו על תורתו׃

³⁴But the Pharisees, when they heard that he had put the Sadducees to silence, gathered themselves together.

³⁴Les pharisiens, ayant appris qu'il avait réduit au silence les sadducéens, se rassemblèrent,

³⁴והפרושים כשמעם כי סכר פי הצדוקים ויועדו יחדו׃

³⁵And one of them, a lawyer, asked him a question, trying him:

³⁵et l'un d'eux, docteur de la loi, lui fit cette question, pour l'éprouver:

³⁵ואחד מהם מבין בתורה שאל אתו לנסותו לאמר׃

³⁶Teacher, which is the great commandment in the law?

³⁶Maître, quel est le plus grand commandement de la loi?

³⁶רבי אי זו מצוה גדולה היא בתורה׃

³⁷And he said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.

³⁷Jésus lui répondit: Tu aimeras le Seigneur, ton Dieu, de tout ton coeur, de toute ton âme, et de toute ta pensée.

³⁷ויאמר ישוע אליו ואהבת את יהוה אלהיך בכל לבבך ובכל נפשך ובכל מדעך׃

³⁸This is the great and first commandment.

³⁸C'est le premier et le plus grand commandement.

³⁸זאת היא המצוה הגדולה והראשונה׃

³⁹And a second like [unto it] is this, Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself.

³⁹Et voici le second, qui lui est semblable: Tu aimeras ton prochain comme toi-même.

³⁹והשנית דומה לה ואהבת לרעך כמוך׃

⁴⁰On these two commandments the whole law hangeth, and the prophets.

⁴⁰De ces deux commandements dépendent toute la loi et les prophètes.

⁴⁰בשתי המצות האלה כל התורה תלויה וגם הנביאים׃

⁴¹Now while the Pharisees were gathered together, Jesus asked them a question,

⁴¹Comme les pharisiens étaient assemblés, Jésus les interrogea,

⁴¹ויהי בהקהל הפרושים וישאלם ישוע לאמר׃

⁴²saying, What think ye of the Christ? whose son is he? They say unto him, [The son] of David.

⁴²en disant: Que pensez-vous du Christ? De qui est-il fils? Ils lui répondirent: De David.

⁴²מה דעתכם על המשיח בן מי הוא ויאמרו אליו בן דוד׃

⁴³He saith unto them, How then doth David in the Spirit call him Lord, saying,

⁴³Et Jésus leur dit: Comment donc David, animé par l'Esprit, l'appelle-t-il Seigneur, lorsqu'il dit:

⁴³ויאמר אליהם ואיך קרא לו דוד ברוח אדון באמרו׃

⁴⁴The Lord said unto my Lord, Sit thou on my right hand, Till I put thine enemies underneath thy feet?

⁴⁴Le Seigneur a dit à mon Seigneur: Assieds-toi à ma droite, Jusqu'à ce que je fasse de tes ennemis ton marchepied?

⁴⁴נאם יהוה לאדני שב לימיני עד אשית איביך הדם לרגליך׃

⁴⁵If David then calleth him Lord, how is he his son?

⁴⁵Si donc David l'appelle Seigneur, comment est-il son fils?

⁴⁵ועתה אם דוד קרא לו אדון איך הוא בנו׃

⁴⁶And no one was able to answer him a word, neither durst any man from that day forth ask him any more questions.

⁴⁶Nul ne put lui répondre un mot. Et, depuis ce jour, personne n'osa plus lui proposer des questions.

⁴⁶ולא יכל איש לענות אתו דבר ולא ערב עוד איש את לבו מן היום ההוא לשאל אותו׃
