¹Then shall the kingdom of heaven be likened unto ten virgins, who took their lamps, and went forth to meet the bridegroom.

¹Alors le royaume des cieux sera semblable à dix vierges qui, ayant pris leurs lampes, allèrent à la rencontre de l'époux.

¹אז תדמה מלכות השמים לעשר עלמות אשר לקחו את נרותיהן ותצאנה לקראת החתן׃

²And five of them were foolish, and five were wise.

²Cinq d'entre elles étaient folles, et cinq sages.

²חמש מהן היו חכמות וחמש כסילות׃

³For the foolish, when they took their lamps, took no oil with them:

³Les folles, en prenant leurs lampes, ne prirent point d'huile avec elles;

³הכסילות לקחו את הנרות ולא לקחו עמהן שמן׃

⁴but the wise took oil in their vessels with their lamps.

⁴mais les sages prirent, avec leurs lampes, de l'huile dans des vases.

⁴והחכמות לקחו שמן בכליהן ואת נרותיהן׃

⁵Now while the bridegroom tarried, they all slumbered and slept.

⁵Comme l'époux tardait, toutes s'assoupirent et s'endormirent.

⁵וכאשר בשש החתן לבוא ותנמנה כלן ותרדמנה׃

⁶But at midnight there is a cry, Behold, the bridegroom! Come ye forth to meet him.

⁶Au milieu de la nuit, on cria: Voici l'époux, allez à sa rencontre!

⁶ויהי בחצות הלילה ותהי צוחה הנה החתן צאינה לקראתו׃

⁷Then all those virgins arose, and trimmed their lamps.

⁷Alors toutes ces vierges se réveillèrent, et préparèrent leurs lampes.

⁷אז התעוררו כל העלמות ההן ותיטבנה את נרותיהן׃

⁸And the foolish said unto the wise, Give us of your oil; for our lamps are going out.

⁸Les folles dirent aux sages: Donnez-nous de votre huile, car nos lampes s'éteignent.

⁸ותאמרנה הכסילות אל החכמות תנה לנו משמנכן כי יכבו נרותינו׃

⁹But the wise answered, saying, Peradventure there will not be enough for us and you: go ye rather to them that sell, and buy for yourselves.

⁹Les sages répondirent: Non; il n'y en aurait pas assez pour nous et pour vous; allez plutôt chez ceux qui en vendent, et achetez-en pour vous.

⁹ותענינה החכמות לאמר לא כן פן יחסר לנו ולכן כי אם לכנה אל המוכרים וקנינה לכן׃

¹⁰And while they went away to buy, the bridegroom came; and they that were ready went in with him to the marriage feast: and the door was shut.

¹⁰Pendant qu'elles allaient en acheter, l'époux arriva; celles qui étaient prêtes entrèrent avec lui dans la salle des noces, et la porte fut fermée.

¹⁰ויהי בעת לכתן לקנות ויבוא החתן והנכנות ללכת באו אתו אל החתנה ותסגר הדלת׃

¹¹Afterward came also the other virgins, saying, Lord, Lord, open to us.

¹¹Plus tard, les autres vierges vinrent, et dirent: Seigneur, Seigneur, ouvre-nous.

¹¹ואחרי כן באו גם שאר העלמות ותאמרנה אדנינו אדנינו פתח לנו׃

¹²But he answered and said, Verily I say unto you, I know you not.

¹²Mais il répondit: Je vous le dis en vérité, je ne vous connais pas.

¹²ויען ויאמר אמן אמר אני לכן לא ידעתי אתכן׃

¹³Watch therefore, for ye know not the day nor the hour.

¹³Veillez donc, puisque vous ne savez ni le jour, ni l'heure.

¹³לכן שקדו כי אינכם יודעים את היום ואת השעה אשר יבא בה בן האדם׃

¹⁴For [it is] as [when] a man, going into another country, called his own servants, and delivered unto them his goods.

¹⁴Il en sera comme d'un homme qui, partant pour un voyage, appela ses serviteurs, et leur remit ses biens.

¹⁴כי כמו איש נסע למרחוק אשר קרא אל עבדיו וימסר להם את רכושו׃

¹⁵And unto one he gave five talents, to another two, to another one; to each according to his several ability; and he went on his journey.

¹⁵Il donna cinq talents à l'un, deux à l'autre, et un au troisième, à chacun selon sa capacité, et il partit. Aussitôt

¹⁵ויתן לזה חמש ככרים ולזה שתים ולזה אחת לכל איש ואיש כפי ערכו וימהר ויסע משם׃

¹⁶Straightway he that received the five talents went and traded with them, and made other five talents.

¹⁶celui qui avait reçu les cinq talents s'en alla, les fit valoir, et il gagna cinq autres talents.

¹⁶וילך האיש הלקח חמש ככרים ויסחר בהן ויעש לו חמש ככרים אחרות׃

¹⁷In like manner he also that [received] the two gained other two.

¹⁷De même, celui qui avait reçu les deux talents en gagna deux autres.

¹⁷וכן הלקח שתים גם הוא הרויח שתים אחרות׃

¹⁸But he that received the one went away and digged in the earth, and hid his lord's money.

¹⁸Celui qui n'en avait reçu qu'un alla faire un creux dans la terre, et cacha l'argent de son maître.

¹⁸אך לקח האחת הלך ויחפר באדמה ויטמן את כסף אדניו׃

¹⁹Now after a long time the lord of those servants cometh, and maketh a reckoning with them.

¹⁹Longtemps après, le maître de ces serviteurs revint, et leur fit rendre compte.

¹⁹ואחרי ימים רבים בא אדוני העבדים ההם ויעש חשבון עמהם׃

²⁰And he that received the five talents came and brought other five talents, saying, Lord, thou deliveredst unto me five talents: lo, I have gained other five talents.

²⁰Celui qui avait reçu les cinq talents s'approcha, en apportant cinq autres talents, et il dit: Seigneur, tu m'as remis cinq talents; voici, j'en ai gagné cinq autres.

²⁰ויגש הלקח חמש הככרים ויבא חמש ככרים אחרות לאמר אדני חמש ככרים מסרת לי הנה חמש ככרים אחרות הרוחתי בהן׃

²¹His lord said unto him, Well done, good and faithful servant: thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will set thee over many things; enter thou into the joy of thy lord.

²¹Son maître lui dit: C'est bien, bon et fidèle serviteur; tu as été fidèle en peu de chose, je te confierai beaucoup; entre dans la joie de ton maître.

²¹ויאמר אליו אדניו כן העבד הטוב והנאמן כי במעט נאמן היית ועל הרבה אפקידך בוא אל שמחת אדניך׃

²²And he also that [received] the two talents came and said, Lord, thou deliveredst unto me two talents: lo, I have gained other two talents.

²²Celui qui avait reçu les deux talents s'approcha aussi, et il dit: Seigneur, tu m'as remis deux talents; voici, j'en ai gagné deux autres.

²²ויגש גם לקח הככרים ויאמר אדני ככרים מסרת לי הנה ככרים הרוחתי בהן׃

²³His lord said unto him, Well done, good and faithful servant: thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will set thee over many things; enter thou into the joy of thy lord.

²³ויאמר אליו אדניו היטבת העבד הטוב והנאמן במזער נאמן היית ועל הרבה אפקידך בוא אל שמחת אדניך׃

²⁴And he also that had received the one talent came and said, Lord, I knew thee that thou art a hard man, reaping where thou didst not sow, and gathering where thou didst not scatter;

²⁴Celui qui n'avait reçu qu'un talent s'approcha ensuite, et il dit: Seigneur, je savais que tu es un homme dur, qui moissonnes où tu n'as pas semé, et qui amasses où tu n'as pas vanné;

²⁴ויגש גם הלקח את הככר האחת ויאמר אדני ידעתיך כי איש קשה אתה קצר באשר לא זרעת וכנס מאשר לא פזרת׃

²⁵and I was afraid, and went away and hid thy talent in the earth: lo, thou hast thine own.

²⁵j'ai eu peur, et je suis allé cacher ton talent dans la terre; voici, prends ce qui est à toi.

²⁵ואירא ואלך ואטמן את ככרך באדמה ועתה הא לך את אשר לך׃

²⁶But his lord answered and said unto him, Thou wicked and slothful servant, thou knewest that I reap where I sowed not, and gather where I did not scatter;

²⁶Son maître lui répondit: Serviteur méchant et paresseux, tu savais que je moissonne où je n'ai pas semé, et que j'amasse où je n'ai pas vanné;

²⁶ויען אדניו ויאמר אליו העבד הרע והעצל אתה ידעת כי קצר אנכי באשר לא זרעתי וכנס מאשר לא פזרתי׃

²⁷thou oughtest therefore to have put my money to the bankers, and at my coming I should have received back mine own with interest.

²⁷il te fallait donc remettre mon argent aux banquiers, et, à mon retour, j'aurais retiré ce qui est à moi avec un intérêt.

²⁷לכן היה עליך לתת את כספי לשלחנים ואני בבואי הייתי לקח את אשר לי בתרבית׃

²⁸Take ye away therefore the talent from him, and give it unto him that hath the ten talents.

²⁸Otez-lui donc le talent, et donnez-le à celui qui a les dix talents.

²⁸על כן שאו ממנו את הככר ותנו אל האיש אשר לו עשר הככרים׃

²⁹For unto every one that hath shall be given, and he shall have abundance: but from him that hath not, even that which he hath shall be taken away.

²⁹Car on donnera à celui qui a, et il sera dans l'abondance, mais à celui qui n'a pas on ôtera même ce qu'il a.

²⁹כי כל איש אשר יש לו ינתן לו ויעדיף והאיש אשר אין לו גם את אשר לו יקח ממנו׃

³⁰And cast ye out the unprofitable servant into the outer darkness: there shall be the weeping and the gnashing of teeth.

³⁰Et le serviteur inutile, jetez-le dans les ténèbres du dehors, où il y aura des pleurs et des grincements de dents.

³⁰ואת עבד הבליעל השליכו אל החשך החיצון שם תהיה היללה וחרק השנים׃

³¹But when the Son of man shall come in his glory, and all the angels with him, then shall he sit on the throne of his glory:

³¹Lorsque le Fils de l'homme viendra dans sa gloire, avec tous les anges, il s'assiéra sur le trône de sa gloire.

³¹והיה כי יבוא בן האדם בכבודו וכל המלאכים הקדשים עמו וישב על כסא כבודו׃

³²and before him shall be gathered all the nations: and he shall separate them one from another, as the shepherd separateth the sheep from the goats;

³²Toutes les nations seront assemblées devant lui. Il séparera les uns d'avec les autres, comme le berger sépare les brebis d'avec les boucs;

³²ונאספו לפניו כל הגוים והפריד בינותם כאשר יפריד הרעה את הכבשים מן העתודים׃

³³and he shall set the sheep on his right hand, but the goats on the left.

³³et il mettra les brebis à sa droite, et les boucs à sa gauche.

³³והציב את הכבשים לימינו ואת העתודים לשמאלו׃

³⁴Then shall the King say unto them on his right hand, Come, ye blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world:

³⁴Alors le roi dira à ceux qui seront à sa droite: Venez, vous qui êtes bénis de mon Père; prenez possession du royaume qui vous a été préparé dès la fondation du monde.

³⁴אז יאמר המלך אל הנצבים לימינו באו ברוכי אבי ורשו את המלכות המוכנה לכם למן הוסד העולם׃

³⁵for I was hungry, and ye gave me to eat; I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink; I was a stranger, and ye took me in;

³⁵Car j'ai eu faim, et vous m'avez donné à manger; j'ai eu soif, et vous m'avez donné à boire; j'étais étranger, et vous m'avez recueilli;

³⁵כי רעב הייתי ותאכילני צמא הייתי ותשקוני גר הייתי ותאספוני׃

³⁶naked, and ye clothed me; I was sick, and ye visited me; I was in prison, and ye came unto me.

³⁶j'étais nu, et vous m'avez vêtu; j'étais malade, et vous m'avez visité; j'étais en prison, et vous êtes venus vers moi.

³⁶ערום ותכסוני חולה ותבקרוני במשמר הייתי ותבאו אלי׃

³⁷Then shall the righteous answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee hungry, and fed thee? or athirst, and gave thee drink?

³⁷Les justes lui répondront: Seigneur, quand t'avons-nous vu avoir faim, et t'avons-nous donné à manger; ou avoir soif, et t'avons-nous donné à boire?

³⁷וענו הצדיקים ואמרו אדנינו מתי ראינוך רעב ונכלכלך או צמא ונשקה אותך׃

³⁸And when saw we thee a stranger, and took thee in? or naked, and clothed thee?

³⁸Quand t'avons-nous vu étranger, et t'avons-nous recueilli; ou nu, et t'avons-nous vêtu?

³⁸ומתי ראינוך גר ונאספך או ערם ונכסך׃

³⁹And when saw we thee sick, or in prison, and came unto thee?

³⁹Quand t'avons-nous vu malade, ou en prison, et sommes-nous allés vers toi?

³⁹ומתי ראינוך חולה או במשמר ונבא אליך׃

⁴⁰And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye did it unto one of these my brethren, [even] these least, ye did it unto me.

⁴⁰Et le roi leur répondra: Je vous le dis en vérité, toutes les fois que vous avez fait ces choses à l'un de ces plus petits de mes frères, c'est à moi que vous les avez faites.

⁴⁰והמלך יענה ויאמר אליהם אמן אמר אני לכם מה שעשיתם לאחד מאחי הצעירים האלה לי עשיתם׃

⁴¹Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into the eternal fire which is prepared for the devil and his angels:

⁴¹Ensuite il dira à ceux qui seront à sa gauche: Retirez-vous de moi, maudits; allez dans le feu éternel qui a été préparé pour le diable et pour ses anges.

⁴¹ואז יאמר גם אל הנצבים לשמאלו לכו מעלי אתם הארורים אל אש עולם המוכנה לשטן ולמלאכיו׃

⁴²for I was hungry, and ye did not give me to eat; I was thirsty, and ye gave me no drink;

⁴²Car j'ai eu faim, et vous ne m'avez pas donné à manger; j'ai eu soif, et vous ne m'avez pas donné à boire;

⁴²כי רעב הייתי ולא האכלתם אותי צמא הייתי ולא השקיתם אותי׃

⁴³I was a stranger, and ye took me not in; naked, and ye clothed me not; sick, and in prison, and ye visited me not.

⁴³j'étais étranger, et vous ne m'avez pas recueilli; j'étais nu, et vous ne m'avez pas vêtu; j'étais malade et en prison, et vous ne m'avez pas visité.

⁴³גר הייתי ולא אספתם אותי ערום ולא כסיתם אותי חולה ובמשמר ולא בקרתם אותי׃

⁴⁴Then shall they also answer, saying, Lord, when saw we thee hungry, or athirst, or a stranger, or naked, or sick, or in prison, and did not minister unto thee?

⁴⁴Ils répondront aussi: Seigneur, quand t'avons-nous vu ayant faim, ou ayant soif, ou étranger, ou nu, ou malade, ou en prison, et ne t'avons-nous pas assisté?

⁴⁴וענו גם הם ואמרו אדנינו מתי ראינוך רעב או צמא או גר או ערום או חולה או במשמר ולא שרתנוך׃

⁴⁵Then shall he answer them, saying, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye did it not unto one of these least, ye did it not unto me.

⁴⁵Et il leur répondra: Je vous le dis en vérité, toutes les fois que vous n'avez pas fait ces choses à l'un de ces plus petits, c'est à moi que vous ne les avez pas faites.

⁴⁵אז יענה אתם לאמר אמן אמר אני לכם מה שלא עשיתם לאחד מן הצעירים האלה גם לי לא עשיתם׃

⁴⁶And these shall go away into eternal punishment: but the righteous into eternal life.

⁴⁶Et ceux-ci iront au châtiment éternel, mais les justes à la vie éternelle.

⁴⁶וילכו אלה למעצבת עולם והצדיקים לחיי עולם׃
