¹Now when morning was come, all the chief priests and the elders of the people took counsel against Jesus to put him to death:

¹ויהי לפנות הבקר ויתיעצו כל ראשי הכהנים וזקני העם על ישוע להמיתו׃

²and they bound him, and led him away, and delivered him up to Pilate the governor.

²Après l'avoir lié, ils l'emmenèrent, et le livrèrent à Ponce Pilate, le gouverneur.

²ויאסרו אתו ויוליכהו משם וימסרהו אל פונטיוס פילטוס ההגמון׃

³Then Judas, who betrayed him, when he saw that he was condemned, repented himself, and brought back the thirty pieces of silver to the chief priests and elders,

³Alors Judas, qui l'avait livré, voyant qu'il était condamné, se repentit, et rapporta les trente pièces d'argent aux principaux sacrificateurs et aux anciens,

³וירא יהודה המסר אותו כי הרשיעהו וינחם וישב את שלשים הכסף אל הכהנים הגדולים והזקנים לאמר׃

⁴saying, I have sinned in that I betrayed innocent blood. But they said, What is that to us? see thou [to it].

⁴en disant: J'ai péché, en livrant le sang innocent. Ils répondirent: Que nous importe? Cela te regarde.

⁴חטאתי כי דם נקי הסגרתי והם אמרו מה לנו ולזאת אתה תראה׃

⁵And he cast down the pieces of silver into the sanctuary, and departed; and he went away and hanged himself.

⁵Judas jeta les pièces d'argent dans le temple, se retira, et alla se pendre.

⁵וישלך את הכסף אל ההיכל ויפן וילך ויחנק׃

⁶And the chief priests took the pieces of silver, and said, It is not lawful to put them into the treasury, since it is the price of blood.

⁶Les principaux sacrificateurs les ramassèrent, et dirent: Il n'est pas permis de les mettre dans le trésor sacré, puisque c'est le prix du sang.

⁶ויקחו ראשי הכהנים את הכסף ויאמרו לא נכון לנו לתתו אל ארון הקרבן כי מחיר דמים הוא׃

⁷And they took counsel, and bought with them the potter's field, to bury strangers in.

⁷Et, après en avoir délibéré, ils achetèrent avec cet argent le champ du potier, pour la sépulture des étrangers.

⁷ויתיעצו ויקנו בו את שדה היוצר לקבורת הגרים׃

⁸Wherefore that field was called, the field of blood, unto this day.

⁸C'est pourquoi ce champ a été appelé champ du sang, jusqu'à ce jour.

⁸על כן שם השדה ההוא שדה הדם עד היום הזה׃

⁹Then was fulfilled that which was spoken through Jeremiah the prophet, saying, And they took the thirty pieces of silver, the price of him that was priced, whom [certain] of the children of Israel did price;

⁹Alors s'accomplit ce qui avait été annoncé par Jérémie, le prophète: Ils ont pris les trente pièces d'argent, la valeur de celui qui a été estimé, qu'on a estimé de la part des enfants d'Israël;

⁹אז נתמלא מה שנאמר ביד ירמיה הנביא ויקחו שלשים הכסף אדר היקר אשר יקר מעל בני ישראל׃

¹⁰and they gave them for the potter's field, as the Lord appointed me.

¹⁰et ils les ont données pour le champ du potier, comme le Seigneur me l'avait ordonné.

¹⁰ויתנו אתם אל שדה היוצר כאשר צוני יהוה׃

¹¹Now Jesus stood before the governor: and the governor asked him, saying, Art thou the King of the Jews? And Jesus said unto him, Thou sayest.

¹¹Jésus comparut devant le gouverneur. Le gouverneur l'interrogea, en ces termes: Es-tu le roi des Juifs? Jésus lui répondit: Tu le dis.

¹¹וישוע העמד לפני ההגמון וישאלהו ההגמון לאמר האתה הוא מלך היהודים ויאמר ישוע אתה אמרת׃

¹²And when he was accused by the chief priests and elders, he answered nothing.

¹²Mais il ne répondit rien aux accusations des principaux sacrificateurs et des anciens.

¹²וידברו עליו שטנה הכהנים הגדולים והזקנים והוא לא ענה דבר׃

¹³Then saith Pilate unto him, Hearest thou not how many things they witness against thee?

¹³Alors Pilate lui dit: N'entends-tu pas de combien de choses ils t'accusent?

¹³ויאמר אליו פילטוס האינך שמע כמה הם מעידים בך׃

¹⁴And he gave him no answer, not even to one word: insomuch that the governor marvelled greatly.

¹⁴Et Jésus ne lui donna de réponse sur aucune parole, ce qui étonna beaucoup le gouverneur.

¹⁴ולא ענהו אף דבר אחד ויתמה ההגמון עד מאד׃

¹⁵Now at the feast the governor was wont to release unto the multitude one prisoner, whom they would.

¹⁵A chaque fête, le gouverneur avait coutume de relâcher un prisonnier, celui que demandait la foule.

¹⁵ומנהג ההגמון היה לפטר לעם בכל חג אסיר אחד את אשר יחפצו׃

¹⁶And they had then a notable prisoner, called Barabbas.

¹⁶Ils avaient alors un prisonnier fameux, nommé Barabbas.

¹⁶ובעת ההיא היה להם אסיר ידוע ושמו בר אבא׃

¹⁷When therefore they were gathered together, Pilate said unto them, Whom will ye that I release unto you? Barabbas, or Jesus who is called Christ?

¹⁷Comme ils étaient assemblés, Pilate leur dit: Lequel voulez-vous que je vous relâche, Barabbas, ou Jésus, qu'on appelle Christ?

¹⁷ויהי כאשר נקהלו ויאמר אליהם פילטוס את מי תחפצו כי אפטר לכם את בר אבא או את ישוע הנקרא בשם משיח׃

¹⁸For he knew that for envy they had delivered him up.

¹⁸Car il savait que c'était par envie qu'ils avaient livré Jésus.

¹⁸כי ידע אשר רק מקנאה מסרו אתו׃

¹⁹And while he was sitting on the judgment-seat, his wife sent unto him, saying, Have thou nothing to do with that righteous man; for I have suffered many things this day in a dream because of him.

¹⁹Pendant qu'il était assis sur le tribunal, sa femme lui fit dire: Qu'il n'y ait rien entre toi et ce juste; car aujourd'hui j'ai beaucoup souffert en songe à cause de lui.

¹⁹ויהי כשבתו על כסא הדין ותשלח אליו אשתו לאמר אל יהי לך דבר עם הצדיק הזה כי בעבורו עניתי הרבה היום בחלום׃

²⁰Now the chief priests and the elders persuaded the multitudes that they should ask for Barabbas, and destroy Jesus.

²⁰Les principaux sacrificateurs et les anciens persuadèrent à la foule de demander Barabbas, et de faire périr Jésus.

²⁰והכהנים הגדולים והזקנים פתו את המון העם לשאל להם את בר אבא ולאבד את ישוע׃

²¹But the governor answered and said unto them, Which of the two will ye that I release unto you? And they said, Barabbas.

²¹Le gouverneur prenant la parole, leur dit: Lequel des deux voulez-vous que je vous relâche? Ils répondirent: Barabbas.

²¹ויען ההגמון ויאמר אליהם את מי משניהם תחפצו כי אפטר לכם ויאמרו את בר אבא׃

²²Pilate saith unto them, What then shall I do unto Jesus who is called Christ? They all say, Let him be crucified.

²²Pilate leur dit: Que ferai-je donc de Jésus, qu'on appelle Christ? Tous répondirent: Qu'il soit crucifié!

²²ויאמר אליהם פילטוס ומה אעשה לישוע הנקרא בשם משיח ויענו כלם יצלב׃

²³And he said, Why, what evil hath he done? But they cried out exceedingly, saying, Let him be crucified.

²³Le gouverneur dit: Mais quel mal a-t-il fait? Et ils crièrent encore plus fort: Qu'il soit crucifié!

²³ויאמר ההגמון מה אפוא הרעה אשר עשה ויוסיפו עוד צעק לאמר יצלב׃

²⁴So when Pilate saw that he prevailed nothing, but rather that a tumult was arising, he took water, and washed his hands before the multitude, saying, I am innocent of the blood of this righteous man; see ye [to it].

²⁴Pilate, voyant qu'il ne gagnait rien, mais que le tumulte augmentait, prit de l'eau, se lava les mains en présence de la foule, et dit: Je suis innocent du sang de ce juste. Cela vous regarde.

²⁴ויהי כראות פילטוס כי לא יועיל מאומה ורבתה עוד המהודה ויקח מים וירחץ את ידיו לעיני העם ויאמר נקי אנכי מדם הצדיק הזה אתם תראו׃

²⁵And all the people answered and said, His blood [be] on us, and on our children.

²⁵Et tout le peuple répondit: Que son sang retombe sur nous et sur nos enfants!

²⁵ויענו כל העם ויאמרו דמו עלינו ועל בנינו׃

²⁶Then released he unto them Barabbas; but Jesus he scourged and delivered to be crucified.

²⁶Alors Pilate leur relâcha Barabbas; et, après avoir fait battre de verges Jésus, il le livra pour être crucifié.

²⁶אז פטר להם את בר אבא ואת ישוע הכה בשוטים וימסר אותו להצלב׃

²⁷Then the soldiers of the governor took Jesus into the Praetorium, and gathered unto him the whole band.

²⁷Les soldats du gouverneur conduisirent Jésus dans le prétoire, et ils assemblèrent autour de lui toute la cohorte.

²⁷ויקחו אנשי הצבא אשר להגמון את ישוע ויביאהו אל בית המשפט ויאספו עליו את כל הגדוד׃

²⁸And they stripped him, and put on him a scarlet robe.

²⁸Ils lui ôtèrent ses vêtements, et le couvrirent d'un manteau écarlate.

²⁸ויפשיטו אותו את בגדיו ויעטפהו מעיל שני׃

²⁹And they platted a crown of thorns and put it upon his head, and a reed in his right hand; and they kneeled down before him, and mocked him, saying, Hail, King of the Jews!

²⁹Ils tressèrent une couronne d'épines, qu'ils posèrent sur sa tête, et ils lui mirent un roseau dans la main droite; puis, s'agenouillant devant lui, ils le raillaient, en disant: Salut, roi des Juifs!

²⁹וישרגו קצים ויעשו עטרת וישימו על ראשו וקנה בימינו ויכרעו לפניו ויתלוצצו בו לאמר שלום לך מלך היהודים׃

³⁰And they spat upon him, and took the reed and smote him on the head.

³⁰Et ils crachaient contre lui, prenaient le roseau, et frappaient sur sa tête.

³⁰וירקו בו ויקחו את הקנה ויכהו על ראשו׃

³¹And when they had mocked him, they took off from him the robe, and put on him his garments, and led him away to crucify him.

³¹Après s'être ainsi moqués de lui, ils lui ôtèrent le manteau, lui remirent ses vêtements, et l'emmenèrent pour le crucifier.

³¹ואחרי התלוצצם בו הפשיטו אותו את המעיל וילבישהו את בגדיו ויוליכהו לצלב׃

³²And as they came out, they found a man of Cyrene, Simon by name: him they compelled to go [with them], that he might bear his cross.

³²Lorsqu'ils sortirent, ils rencontrèrent un homme de Cyrène, appelé Simon, et ils le forcèrent à porter la croix de Jésus.

³²ויהי בצאתם וימצאו איש קוריני ושמו שמעון ויאנסו אתו לשאת לו את צלבו׃

³³And they were come unto a place called Golgotha, that is to say, The place of a skull,

³³Arrivés au lieu nommé Golgotha, ce qui signifie lieu du crâne,

³³ויבאו אל המקום הנקרא גלגלתא הוא מקום גלגלת׃

³⁴they gave him wine to drink mingled with gall: and when he had tasted it, he would not drink.

³⁴ils lui donnèrent à boire du vin mêlé de fiel; mais, quand il l'eut goûté, il ne voulut pas boire.

³⁴ויתנו לו לשתות חמץ מזוג במרורה ויטעם ולא אבה לשתות׃

³⁵And when they had crucified him, they parted his garments among them, casting lots;

³⁵Après l'avoir crucifié, ils se partagèrent ses vêtements, en tirant au sort, afin que s'accomplît ce qui avait été annoncé par le prophète: Ils se sont partagé mes vêtements, et ils ont tiré au sort ma tunique.

³⁵ויהי כאשר צלבו אותו ויחלקו להם את בגדיו וגורל הפילו למלאת את אשר נאמר בפי הנביא יחלקו בגדי להם ועל לבושי יפילו גורל׃

³⁶and they sat and watched him there.

³⁶Puis ils s'assirent, et le gardèrent.

³⁶וישבו שמה וישמרו אותו׃

³⁷And they set up over his head his accusation written, THIS IS JESUS THE KING OF THE JEWS.

³⁷Pour indiquer le sujet de sa condamnation, on écrivit au-dessus de sa tête: Celui-ci est Jésus, le roi des Juifs.

³⁷וישימו את דבר אשמתו כתוב ממעל לראשו זה הוא ישוע מלך היהודים׃

³⁸Then are there crucified with him two robbers, one on the right hand and one on the left.

³⁸Avec lui furent crucifiés deux brigands, l'un à sa droite, et l'autre à sa gauche.

³⁸ויצלבו אתו שני פריצים אחד לימינו ואחד לשמאלו׃

³⁹And they that passed by railed on him, wagging their heads,

³⁹Les passants l'injuriaient, et secouaient la tête,

³⁹והעברים גדפו אותו ויניעו את ראשם׃

⁴⁰and saying, Thou that destroyest the temple, and buildest it in three days, save thyself: if thou art the Son of God, come down from the cross.

⁴⁰en disant: Toi qui détruis le temple, et qui le rebâtis en trois jours, sauve-toi toi-même! Si tu es le Fils de Dieu, descends de la croix!

⁴⁰ויאמרו אתה ההרס את ההיכל ובנהו בשלשת ימים הושע לנפשך ואם בן האלהים אתה רדה מן הצלב׃

⁴¹In like manner also the chief priests mocking [him], with the scribes and elders, said,

⁴¹Les principaux sacrificateurs, avec les scribes et les anciens, se moquaient aussi de lui, et disaient:

⁴¹וכן הלעיגו גם ראשי הכהנים עם הסופרים והזקנים לאמר׃

⁴²He saved others; himself he cannot save. He is the King of Israel; let him now come down from the cross, and we will believe on him.

⁴²Il a sauvé les autres, et il ne peut se sauver lui-même! S'il est roi d'Israël, qu'il descende de la croix, et nous croirons en lui.

⁴²את אחרים הושיע ולעצמו לא יוכל להושיע אם מלך ישראל הוא ירד נא עתה מן הצלב ונאמין בו׃

⁴³He trusteth on God; let him deliver him now, if he desireth him: for he said, I am the Son of God.

⁴³Il s'est confié en Dieu; que Dieu le délivre maintenant, s'il l'aime. Car il a dit: Je suis Fils de Dieu.

⁴³בטח באלהים עתה יפלטהו אם חפץ בו כי אמר בן האלהים אני׃

⁴⁴And the robbers also that were crucified with him cast upon him the same reproach.

⁴⁴Les brigands, crucifiés avec lui, l'insultaient de la même manière.

⁴⁴וגם הפריצים הנצלבים אתו חרפהו כדברים האלה׃

⁴⁵Now from the sixth hour there was darkness over all the land until the ninth hour.

⁴⁵Depuis la sixième heure jusqu'à la neuvième, il y eut des ténèbres sur toute la terre.

⁴⁵ומשעה הששית היה חשך על כל הארץ עד השעה התשיעית׃

⁴⁶And about the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying, Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani? that is, My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?

⁴⁶Et vers la neuvième heure, Jésus s'écria d'une voix forte: Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani? c'est-à-dire: Mon Dieu, mon Dieu, pourquoi m'as-tu abandonné?

⁴⁶וכעת השעה התשיעית ויצעק ישוע בקול גדול אלי אלי למה שבקתני ותרגומו אלי אלי למה עזבתני׃

⁴⁷And some of them stood there, when they heard it, said, This man calleth Elijah.

⁴⁷Quelques-uns de ceux qui étaient là, l'ayant entendu, dirent: Il appelle Elie.

⁴⁷ויאמרו מקצת העמדים שם כשמעם את זאת לאמר אל אליהו הוא קורא׃

⁴⁸And straightway one of them ran, and took a sponge, and filled it with vinegar, and put it on a reed, and gave him to drink.

⁴⁸Et aussitôt l'un d'eux courut prendre une éponge, qu'il remplit de vinaigre, et, l'ayant fixée à un roseau, il lui donna à boire.

⁴⁸וימהר אחד מהם וירץ ויקח ספוג וימלא אתו חמץ וישימהו על קנה וישקהו׃

⁴⁹And the rest said, Let be; let us see whether Elijah cometh to save him.

⁴⁹Mais les autres disaient: Laisse, voyons si Elie viendra le sauver.

⁴⁹ושאר האנשים אמרו הניחו לו ונראה אם יבוא אליהו להושיעו׃

⁵⁰And Jesus cried again with a loud voice, and yielded up his spirit.

⁵⁰Jésus poussa de nouveau un grand cri, et rendit l'esprit.

⁵⁰וישוע הוסיף לקרא בקול גדול ותצא רוחו׃

⁵¹And behold, the veil of the temple was rent in two from the top to the bottom; and the earth did quake; and the rocks were rent;

⁵¹Et voici, le voile du temple se déchira en deux, depuis le haut jusqu'en bas, la terre trembla, les rochers se fendirent,

⁵¹והנה נקרעה פרכת ההיכל מלמעלה למטה לשנים קרעים והארץ נרעשה והסלעים נבקעו׃

⁵²and the tombs were opened; and many bodies of the saints that had fallen asleep were raised;

⁵²les sépulcres s'ouvrirent, et plusieurs corps des saints qui étaient morts ressuscitèrent.

⁵²והקברים נפתחו ורבים מגופות הקדושים ישני אדמת עפר נעורו׃

⁵³and coming forth out of the tombs after his resurrection they entered into the holy city and appeared unto many.

⁵³Etant sortis des sépulcres, après la résurrection de Jésus, ils entrèrent dans la ville sainte, et apparurent à un grand nombre de personnes.

⁵³ויצאו מן הקברים אחרי הקיצו ויבאו אל העיר הקדושה ויראו לרבים׃

⁵⁴Now the centurion, and they that were with him watching Jesus, when they saw the earthquake, and the things that were done, feared exceedingly, saying, Truly this was the Son of God.

⁵⁴Le centenier et ceux qui étaient avec lui pour garder Jésus, ayant vu le tremblement de terre et ce qui venait d'arriver, furent saisis d'une grande frayeur, et dirent: Assurément, cet homme était Fils de Dieu.

⁵⁴ושר המאה והאנשים אשר אתו השמרים את ישוע כראותם את הרעש ואת אשר נהיתה נבהלו מאד ויאמרו אכן זה היה בן אלהים׃

⁵⁵And many women were there beholding from afar, who had followed Jesus from Galilee, ministering unto him:

⁵⁵Il y avait là plusieurs femmes qui regardaient de loin; qui avaient accompagné Jésus depuis la Galilée, pour le servir.

⁵⁵ותהיינה שם נשים רבות הראות מרחוק אשר הלכו אחרי ישוע מן הגליל לשרתו׃

⁵⁶among whom was Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James and Joses, and the mother of the sons of Zebedee.

⁵⁶Parmi elles étaient Marie de Magdala, Marie, mère de Jacques et de Joseph, et la mère des fils de Zébédée.

⁵⁶ובתוכן מרים המגדלית ומרים אם יעקב ויוסי ואם בני זבדי׃

⁵⁷And when even was come, there came a rich man from Arimathaea, named Joseph, who also himself was Jesus' disciple:

⁵⁷Le soir étant venu, arriva un homme riche d'Arimathée, nommé Joseph, lequel était aussi disciple de Jésus.

⁵⁷ויהי בערב ויבא איש עשיר מן הרמתים ושמו יוסף וגם הוא היה מתלמידי ישוע׃

⁵⁸this man went to Pilate, and asked for the body of Jesus. Then Pilate commanded it to be given up.

⁵⁸Il se rendit vers Pilate, et demanda le corps de Jésus. Et Pilate ordonna de le remettre.

⁵⁸ויגש אל פילטוס לשאל את גוית ישוע ויצו פליטוס כי תנתן לו׃

⁵⁹And Joseph took the body, and wrapped it in a clean linen cloth,

⁵⁹Joseph prit le corps, l'enveloppa d'un linceul blanc,

⁵⁹ויקח יוסף את הגויה ויכרך אותה בסדין טהור׃

⁶⁰and laid it in his own new tomb, which he had hewn out in the rock: and he rolled a great stone to the door of the tomb, and departed.

⁶⁰et le déposa dans un sépulcre neuf, qu'il s'était fait tailler dans le roc. Puis il roula une grande pierre à l'entrée du sépulcre, et il s'en alla.

⁶⁰וישימה בקבר החדש אשר חצב לו בסלע ויגל אבן גדולה על פתח הקבר וילך לו׃

⁶¹And Mary Magdalene was there, and the other Mary, sitting over against the sepulchre.

⁶¹Marie de Magdala et l'autre Marie étaient là, assises vis-à-vis du sépulcre.

⁶¹ומרים המגדלית ומרים האחרת היו ישבות שם ממול הקבר׃

⁶²Now on the morrow, which is [the day] after the Preparation, the chief priests and the Pharisees were gathered together unto Pilate,

⁶²Le lendemain, qui était le jour après la préparation, les principaux sacrificateurs et les pharisiens allèrent ensemble auprès de Pilate,

⁶²ויהי ממחרת ערב השבת ויקהלו הכהנים הגדולים והפרושים אל פילטוס׃

⁶³saying, Sir, we remember that that deceiver said while he was yet alive, After three days I rise again.

⁶³et dirent: Seigneur, nous nous souvenons que cet imposteur a dit, quand il vivait encore: Après trois jours je ressusciterai.

⁶³ויאמרו אדנינו זכרנו כי אמר המתעה ההוא בעודנו חי מקצה שלשת ימים קום אקום׃

⁶⁴Command therefore that the sepulchre be made sure until the third day, lest haply his disciples come and steal him away, and say unto the people, He is risen from the dead: and the last error will be worse than the first.

⁶⁴Ordonne donc que le sépulcre soit gardé jusqu'au troisième jour, afin que ses disciples ne viennent pas dérober le corps, et dire au peuple: Il est ressuscité des morts. Cette dernière imposture serait pire que la première.

⁶⁴לכן צוה נא ויסכר מבוא הקבר עד היום השלישי פן יבאו תלמידיו בלילה וגנבהו ואמרו אל העם הנה קם מן המתים והיתה התרמית האחרונה רעה מן הראשונה׃

⁶⁵Pilate said unto them, Ye have a guard: go, make it [as] sure as ye can.

⁶⁵Pilate leur dit: Vous avez une garde; allez, gardez-le comme vous l'entendrez.

⁶⁵ויאמר אליהם פילטוס הנה לכם אנשי משמר לכו סכרוהו כדעתכם׃

⁶⁶So they went, and made the sepulchre sure, sealing the stone, the guard being with them.

⁶⁶Ils s'en allèrent, et s'assurèrent du sépulcre au moyen de la garde, après avoir scellé la pierre.

⁶⁶וילכו ויסכרו את מבוא הקבר ויחתמו את האבן ויעמידו עליו את המשמר׃
