¹For the Chief Musician. A Psalm of the sons of Korah. Hear this, all ye peoples; Give ear, all ye inhabitants of the world,

¹Au chef des chantres. Des fils de Koré. Psaume. Ecoutez ceci, vous tous, peuples, Prêtez l'oreille, vous tous, habitants du monde,

¹למנצח לבני קרח מזמור שמעו זאת כל העמים האזינו כל ישבי חלד׃

²Both low and high, Rich and poor together.

²Petits et grands, Riches et pauvres!

²גם בני אדם גם בני איש יחד עשיר ואביון׃

³My mouth shall speak wisdom; And the meditation of my heart shall be of understanding.

³Ma bouche va faire entendre des paroles sages, Et mon coeur a des pensées pleines de sens.

³פי ידבר חכמות והגות לבי תבונות׃

⁴I will incline mine ear to a parable: I will open my dark saying upon the harp.

⁴Je prête l'oreille aux sentences qui me sont inspirées, J'ouvre mon chant au son de la harpe.

⁴אטה למשל אזני אפתח בכנור חידתי׃

⁵Wherefore should I fear in the days of evil, When iniquity at my heels compasseth me about?

⁵Pourquoi craindrais-je aux jours du malheur, Lorsque l'iniquité de mes adversaires m'enveloppe?

⁵למה אירא בימי רע עון עקבי יסובני׃

⁶They that trust in their wealth, And boast themselves in the multitude of their riches;

⁶Ils ont confiance en leurs biens, Et se glorifient de leur grande richesse.

⁶הבטחים על חילם וברב עשרם יתהללו׃

⁷None [of them] can by any means redeem his brother, Nor give to God a ransom for him;

⁷Ils ne peuvent se racheter l'un l'autre, Ni donner à Dieu le prix du rachat.

⁷אח לא פדה יפדה איש לא יתן לאלהים כפרו׃

⁸(For the redemption of their life is costly, And it faileth for ever;)

⁸Le rachat de leur âme est cher, Et n'aura jamais lieu;

⁸ויקר פדיון נפשם וחדל לעולם׃

⁹That he should still live alway, That he should not see corruption.

⁹Ils ne vivront pas toujours, Ils n'éviteront pas la vue de la fosse.

⁹ויחי עוד לנצח לא יראה השחת׃

¹⁰For he shall see it. Wise men die; The fool and the brutish alike perish, And leave their wealth to others.

¹⁰Car ils la verront: les sages meurent, L'insensé et le stupide périssent également, Et ils laissent à d'autres leurs biens.

¹⁰כי יראה חכמים ימותו יחד כסיל ובער יאבדו ועזבו לאחרים חילם׃

¹¹Their inward thought is, [that] their houses [shall continue] for ever, [And] their dwelling-places to all generations; They call their lands after their own names.

¹¹Ils s'imaginent que leurs maisons seront éternelles, Que leurs demeures subsisteront d'âge en âge, Eux dont les noms sont honorés sur la terre.

¹¹קרבם בתימו לעולם משכנתם לדר ודר קראו בשמותם עלי אדמות׃

¹²But man [being] in honor abideth not: He is like the beasts that perish.

¹²Mais l'homme qui est en honneur n'a point de durée, Il est semblable aux bêtes que l'on égorge.

¹²ואדם ביקר בל ילין נמשל כבהמות נדמו׃

¹³This their way is their folly: Yet after them men approve their sayings. Selah

¹³Telle est leur voie, leur folie, Et ceux qui les suivent se plaisent à leurs discours. -Pause.

¹³זה דרכם כסל למו ואחריהם בפיהם ירצו סלה׃

¹⁴They are appointed as a flock for Sheol; Death shall be their shepherd; And the upright shall have dominion over them in the morning; And their beauty shall be for Sheol to consume, That there be no habitation for it.

¹⁴Comme un troupeau, ils sont mis dans le séjour des morts, La mort en fait sa pâture; Et bientôt les hommes droits les foulent aux pieds, Leur beauté s'évanouit, le séjour des morts est leur demeure.

¹⁴כצאן לשאול שתו מות ירעם וירדו בם ישרים לבקר וצירם לבלות שאול מזבל לו׃

¹⁵But God will redeem my soul from the power of Sheol; For he will receive me. Selah

¹⁵Mais Dieu sauvera mon âme du séjour des morts, Car il me prendra sous sa protection. -Pause.

¹⁵אך אלהים יפדה נפשי מיד שאול כי יקחני סלה׃

¹⁶Be not thou afraid when one is made rich, When the glory of his house is increased.

¹⁶Ne sois pas dans la crainte parce qu'un homme s'enrichit, Parce que les trésors de sa maison se multiplient;

¹⁶אל תירא כי יעשר איש כי ירבה כבוד ביתו׃

¹⁷For when he dieth he shall carry nothing away; His glory shall not descend after him.

¹⁷Car il n'emporte rien en mourant, Ses trésors ne descendent point après lui.

¹⁷כי לא במותו יקח הכל לא ירד אחריו כבודו׃

¹⁸Though while he lived he blessed his soul (And men praise thee, when thou doest well to thyself,)

¹⁸Il aura beau s'estimer heureux pendant sa vie, On aura beau te louer des jouissances que tu te donnes,

¹⁸כי נפשו בחייו יברך ויודך כי תיטיב לך׃

¹⁹He shall go to the generation of his fathers; They shall never see the light.

¹⁹Tu iras néanmoins au séjour de tes pères, Qui jamais ne reverront la lumière.

¹⁹תבוא עד דור אבותיו עד נצח לא יראו אור׃

²⁰Man that is in honor, and understandeth not, Is like the beasts that perish.

²⁰L'homme qui est en honneur, et qui n'a pas d'intelligence, Est semblable aux bêtes que l'on égorge.

²⁰אדם ביקר ולא יבין נמשל כבהמות נדמו׃
