¹A Psalm of Asaph. Surely God is good to Israel, [Even] to such as are pure in heart.

¹Psaume d'Asaph. Oui, Dieu est bon pour Israël, Pour ceux qui ont le coeur pur.

¹מזמור לאסף אך טוב לישראל אלהים לברי לבב׃

²But as for me, my feet were almost gone; My steps had well nigh slipped.

²Toutefois, mon pied allait fléchir, Mes pas étaient sur le point de glisser;

²ואני כמעט נטוי רגלי כאין שפכה אשרי׃

³For I was envious at the arrogant, When I saw the prosperity of the wicked.

³Car je portais envie aux insensés, En voyant le bonheur des méchants.

³כי קנאתי בהוללים שלום רשעים אראה׃

⁴For there are no pangs in their death; But their strength is firm.

⁴Rien ne les tourmente jusqu'à leur mort, Et leur corps est chargé d'embonpoint;

⁴כי אין חרצבות למותם ובריא אולם׃

⁵They are not in trouble as [other] men; Neither are they plagued like [other] men.

⁵Ils n'ont aucune part aux souffrances humaines, Ils ne sont point frappés comme le reste des hommes.

⁵בעמל אנוש אינמו ועם אדם לא ינגעו׃

⁶Therefore pride is as a chain about their neck; Violence covereth them as a garment.

⁶Aussi l'orgueil leur sert de collier, La violence est le vêtement qui les enveloppe;

⁶לכן ענקתמו גאוה יעטף שית חמס למו׃

⁷Their eyes stand out with fatness: They have more than heart could wish.

⁷L'iniquité sort de leurs entrailles, Les pensées de leur coeur se font jour.

⁷יצא מחלב עינמו עברו משכיות לבב׃

⁸They scoff, and in wickedness utter oppression: They speak loftily.

⁸Ils raillent, et parlent méchamment d'opprimer; Ils profèrent des discours hautains,

⁸ימיקו וידברו ברע עשק ממרום ידברו׃

⁹They have set their mouth in the heavens, And their tongue walketh through the earth.

⁹Ils élèvent leur bouche jusqu'aux cieux, Et leur langue se promène sur la terre.

⁹שתו בשמים פיהם ולשונם תהלך בארץ׃

¹⁰Therefore his people return hither: And waters of a full [cup] are drained by them.

¹⁰Voilà pourquoi son peuple se tourne de leur côté, Il avale l'eau abondamment,

¹⁰לכן ישיב עמו הלם ומי מלא ימצו למו׃

¹¹And they say, How doth God know? And is there knowledge in the Most High?

¹¹Et il dit: Comment Dieu saurait-il, Comment le Très-Haut connaîtrait-il?

¹¹ואמרו איכה ידע אל ויש דעה בעליון׃

¹²Behold, these are the wicked; And, being alway at ease, they increase in riches.

¹²Ainsi sont les méchants: Toujours heureux, ils accroissent leurs richesses.

¹²הנה אלה רשעים ושלוי עולם השגו חיל׃

¹³Surely in vain have I cleansed my heart, And washed my hands in innocency;

¹³C'est donc en vain que j'ai purifié mon coeur, Et que j'ai lavé mes mains dans l'innocence:

¹³אך ריק זכיתי לבבי וארחץ בנקיון כפי׃

¹⁴For all the day long have I been plagued, And chastened every morning.

¹⁴Chaque jour je suis frappé, Tous les matins mon châtiment est là.

¹⁴ואהי נגוע כל היום ותוכחתי לבקרים׃

¹⁵If I had said, I will speak thus; Behold, I had dealt treacherously with the generation of thy children.

¹⁵Si je disais: Je veux parler comme eux, Voici, je trahirais la race de tes enfants.

¹⁵אם אמרתי אספרה כמו הנה דור בניך בגדתי׃

¹⁶When I thought how I might know this, It was too painful for me;

¹⁶Quand j'ai réfléchi là-dessus pour m'éclairer, La difficulté fut grande à mes yeux,

¹⁶ואחשבה לדעת זאת עמל היא בעיני׃

¹⁷Until I went into the sanctuary of God, And considered their latter end.

¹⁷Jusqu'à ce que j'eusse pénétré dans les sanctuaires de Dieu, Et que j'eusse pris garde au sort final des méchants.

¹⁷עד אבוא אל מקדשי אל אבינה לאחריתם׃

¹⁸Surely thou settest them in slippery places: Thou castest them down to destruction.

¹⁸Oui, tu les places sur des voies glissantes, Tu les fais tomber et les mets en ruines.

¹⁸אך בחלקות תשית למו הפלתם למשואות׃

¹⁹How are they become a desolation in a moment! They are utterly consumed with terrors.

¹⁹Eh quoi! en un instant les voilà détruits! Ils sont enlevés, anéantis par une fin soudaine!

¹⁹איך היו לשמה כרגע ספו תמו מן בלהות׃

²⁰As a dream when one awaketh, So, O Lord, when thou awakest, thou wilt despise their image.

²⁰Comme un songe au réveil, Seigneur, à ton réveil, tu repousses leur image.

²⁰כחלום מהקיץ אדני בעיר צלמם תבזה׃

²¹For my soul was grieved, And I was pricked in my heart:

²¹Lorsque mon coeur s'aigrissait, Et que je me sentais percé dans les entrailles,

²¹כי יתחמץ לבבי וכליותי אשתונן׃

²²So brutish was I, and ignorant; I was [as] a beast before thee.

²²J'étais stupide et sans intelligence, J'étais à ton égard comme les bêtes.

²²ואני בער ולא אדע בהמות הייתי עמך׃

²³Nevertheless I am continually with thee: Thou hast holden my right hand.

²³Cependant je suis toujours avec toi, Tu m'as saisi la main droite;

²³ואני תמיד עמך אחזת ביד ימיני׃

²⁴Thou wilt guide me with thy counsel, And afterward receive me to glory.

²⁴Tu me conduiras par ton conseil, Puis tu me recevras dans la gloire.

²⁴בעצתך תנחני ואחר כבוד תקחני׃

²⁵Whom have I in heaven [but thee]? And there is none upon earth that I desire besides thee.

²⁵Quel autre ai-je au ciel que toi! Et sur la terre je ne prends plaisir qu'en toi.

²⁵מי לי בשמים ועמך לא חפצתי בארץ׃

²⁶My flesh and my heart faileth; [But] God is the strength of my heart and my portion for ever.

²⁶Ma chair et mon coeur peuvent se consumer: Dieu sera toujours le rocher de mon coeur et mon partage.

²⁶כלה שארי ולבבי צור לבבי וחלקי אלהים לעולם׃

²⁷For, lo, they that are far from thee shall perish: Thou hast destroyed all them that play the harlot, [departing] from thee.

²⁷Car voici, ceux qui s'éloignent de toi périssent; Tu anéantis tous ceux qui te sont infidèles.

²⁷כי הנה רחקיך יאבדו הצמתה כל זונה ממך׃

²⁸But it is good for me to draw near unto God: I have made the Lord Jehovah my refuge, That I may tell of all thy works.

²⁸Pour moi, m'approcher de Dieu, c'est mon bien: Je place mon refuge dans le Seigneur, l'Eternel, Afin de raconter toutes tes oeuvres.

²⁸ואני קרבת אלהים לי טוב שתי באדני יהוה מחסי לספר כל מלאכותיך׃
