¹Brethren, my heart's desire and my supplication to God is for them, that they may be saved.

¹Frères, le voeu de mon coeur et ma prière à Dieu pour eux, c'est qu'ils soient sauvés.

¹אחי חפץ לבבי ותפלתי לאלהים בעד ישראל אשר יושעו׃

²For I bear them witness that they have a zeal for God, but not according to knowledge.

²Je leur rends le témoignage qu'ils ont du zèle pour Dieu, mais sans intelligence:

²כי מעיד אני עליהם שיש להם קנאה לאלהים אך לא בדעת׃

³For being ignorant of God's righteousness, and seeking to establish their own, they did not subject themselves to the righteousness of God.

³ne connaissant pas la justice de Dieu, et cherchant à établir leur propre justice, ils ne se sont pas soumis à la justice de Dieu;

³כי את צדקת אלהים לא ידעו ויבקשו להקים את צדקתם ובעבור זאת לצדקת אלהים לא נכנעו׃

⁴For Christ is the end of the law unto righteousness to every one that believeth.

⁴car Christ est la fin de la loi, pour la justification de tous ceux qui croient.

⁴כי המשיח סוף התורה לצדקה לכל המאמין בו׃

⁵For Moses writeth that the man that doeth the righteousness which is of the law shall live thereby.

⁵En effet, Moïse définit ainsi la justice qui vient de la loi: L'homme qui mettra ces choses en pratique vivra par elles.

⁵כי משה כתב על דבר הצדקה מתוך התורה אשר יעשה אתם האדם וחי בהם׃

⁶But the righteousness which is of faith saith thus, Say not in thy heart, Who shall ascend into heaven? (that is, to bring Christ down:)

⁶Mais voici comment parle la justice qui vient de la foi: Ne dis pas en ton coeur: Qui montera au ciel? c'est en faire descendre Christ;

⁶והצדקה אשר מתוך האמונה כה אמרת אל תאמר בלבבך מי יעלה השמימה הלא זאת היא להוריד את המשיח׃

⁷or, Who shall descend into the abyss? (That is, to bring Christ up from the dead.)

⁷ou: Qui descendra dans l'abîme? c'est faire remonter Christ d'entre les morts.

⁷או מי ירד לתהום זאת היא להעלות את המשיח מן המתים׃

⁸But what saith it? The word is nigh thee, in thy mouth, and in thy heart: that is, the word of faith, which we preach:

⁸Que dit-elle donc? La parole est près de toi, dans ta bouche et dans ton coeur. Or, c'est la parole de la foi, que nous prêchons.

⁸אבל מה היא אמרת קרוב אליך הדבר בפיך ובלבבך הוא דבר האמונה אשר אנחנו מבשרים׃

⁹because if thou shalt confess with thy mouth Jesus [as] Lord, and shalt believe in thy heart that God raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved:

⁹Si tu confesses de ta bouche le Seigneur Jésus, et si tu crois dans ton coeur que Dieu l'a ressuscité des morts, tu seras sauvé.

⁹כי אם תודה בפיך אשר ישוע הוא האדון ותאמין בלבבך אשר האלהים העירו מן המתים אז תושע׃

¹⁰for with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.

¹⁰Car c'est en croyant du coeur qu'on parvient à la justice, et c'est en confessant de la bouche qu'on parvient au salut,

¹⁰כי בלבבו יאמין האדם והיתה לו לצדקה ובפיהו יודה והיתה לו לישועה׃

¹¹For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be put to shame.

¹¹selon ce que dit l'Ecriture: Quiconque croit en lui ne sera point confus.

¹¹כי הכתוב אמר כל המאמין בו לא יבוש׃

¹²For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek: for the same [Lord] is Lord of all, and is rich unto all that call upon him:

¹²Il n'y a aucune différence, en effet, entre le Juif et le Grec, puisqu'ils ont tous un même Seigneur, qui est riche pour tous ceux qui l'invoquent.

¹²ואין הבדל בזה בין היהודי ליוני כי אדון אחד לכלם והוא עשיר לכל קראיו׃

¹³for, Whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.

¹³Car quiconque invoquera le nom du Seigneur sera sauvé.

¹³כי כל אשר יקרא בשם יהוה ימלט׃

¹⁴How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in him whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher?

¹⁴Comment donc invoqueront-ils celui en qui ils n'ont pas cru? Et comment croiront-ils en celui dont ils n'ont pas entendu parler? Et comment en entendront-ils parler, s'il n'y a personne qui prêche?

¹⁴ועתה איך יקראו אל אשר לא האמינו בו ואיך יאמינו באשר לא שמעו את שמעו ואיך ישמעו באין מגיד׃

¹⁵and how shall they preach, except they be sent? even as it is written, How beautiful are the feet of them that bring glad tidings of good things!

¹⁵Et comment y aura-t-il des prédicateurs, s'ils ne sont pas envoyés? selon qu'il est écrit: Qu'ils sont beaux Les pieds de ceux qui annoncent la paix, De ceux qui annoncent de bonnes nouvelles!

¹⁵ואיך יגידו אם אינם שלוחים ככתוב מה נאוו רגלי מבשר שלום מבשר טוב׃

¹⁶But they did not all hearken to the glad tidings. For Isaiah saith, Lord, who hath believed our report?

¹⁶Mais tous n'ont pas obéi à la bonne nouvelle. Aussi Esaïe dit-il: Seigneur, Qui a cru à notre prédication?

¹⁶אך לא כלם שמעו לקול הבשורה כי ישעיהו אמר יהוה מי האמין לשמעתנו׃

¹⁷So belief [cometh] of hearing, and hearing by the word of Christ.

¹⁷Ainsi la foi vient de ce qu'on entend, et ce qu'on entend vient de la parole de Christ.

¹⁷לכן האמונה באה מתוך השמועה והשמועה על ידי דבר אלהים׃

¹⁸But I say, Did they not hear? Yea, verily, Their sound went out into all the earth, And their words unto the ends of the world.

¹⁸Mais je dis: N'ont-ils pas entendu? Au contraire! Leur voix est allée par toute la terre, Et leurs paroles jusqu'aux extrémités du monde.

¹⁸ואמר הכי לא שמעו אמנם בכל הארץ יצא קום ובקצה תבל מליהם׃

¹⁹But I say, Did Israel not know? First Moses saith, I will provoke you to jealousy with that which is no nation, With a nation void of understanding will I anger you.

¹⁹Mais je dis: Israël ne l'a-t-il pas su? Moïse le premier dit: J'exciterai votre jalousie par ce qui n'est point une nation, je provoquerai votre colère par une nation sans intelligence.

¹⁹ואמר הכי ישראל לא ידע הנה כבר משה אמר אני אקניאכם בלא עם בגוי נבל אכעיסכם׃

²⁰And Isaiah is very bold, and saith, I was found of them that sought me not; I became manifest unto them that asked not of me.

²⁰Et Esaïe pousse la hardiesse jusqu'à dire: J'ai été trouvé par ceux qui ne me cherchaient pas, Je me suis manifesté à ceux qui ne me demandaient pas.

²⁰וישעיהו מלאו לבו לאמר נמצאתי ללא בקשני נדרשתי ללוא שאלו׃

²¹But as to Israel he saith, All the day long did I spread out my hands unto a disobedient and gainsaying people.

²¹Mais au sujet d'Israël, il dit: J'ai tendu mes mains tout le jour vers un peuple rebelle Et contredisant.

²¹ועל ישראל הוא אמר פרשתי ידי כל היום אל עם סורר ומרה׃
