¹For as touching the ministering to the saints, it is superfluous for me to write to you:

¹For om hjelpen til de hellige har jeg ikke nødig å skrive til eder;

²for I know your readiness, of which I glory on your behalf to them of Macedonia, that Achaia hath been prepared for a year past; and your zeal hath stirred up very many of them.

²jeg kjenner jo eders redebonhet, som jeg roser eder for hos makedonierne, idet jeg sier: Akaia har vært rede like fra ifjor; og eders nidkjærhet tilskyndte så mange.

³But I have sent the brethren, that our glorying on your behalf may not be made void in this respect; that, even as I said, ye may be prepared:

³Men jeg sender brødrene, forat ikke den ros vi har gitt eder, skal bli til intet i dette stykke, forat I, som jeg har sagt, må være rede,

⁴lest by any means, if there come with me any of Macedonia and find you unprepared, we (that we say not, ye) should be put to shame in this confidence.

⁴så vi, for ikke å si I selv, ikke skal bli til skamme i denne tillit når det kommer makedoniere med mig og finner eder uferdige.

⁵I thought it necessary therefore to entreat the brethren, that they would go before unto you, and make up beforehand your aforepromised bounty, that the same might be ready as a matter of bounty, and not of extortion.

⁵Derfor aktet jeg det nødvendig å tilskynde brødrene til å dra i forveien til eder og forut få i stand den gave I før har lovt, at den må være ferdig som en velsignelse, og ikke som en karrig gave.

⁶But this [I say,] He that soweth sparingly shall reap also sparingly; and he that soweth bountifully shall reap also bountifully.

⁶Men dette sier jeg: Den som karrig sår, skal karrig høste, og den som sår med velsignelser, skal høste med velsignelser.

⁷[Let] each man [do] according as he hath purposed in his heart: not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver.

⁷Hver gi så som han setter sig fore i sitt hjerte, ikke med sorg eller av tvang! for Gud elsker en glad giver.

⁸And God is able to make all grace abound unto you; that ye, having always all sufficiency in everything, may abound unto every good work:

⁸Og Gud er mektig til å gi eder all nåde i rikelig mål, forat I alltid i alle ting kan ha alt det I trenger til, og således rikelig kan gjøre all god gjerning,

⁹as it is written, He hath scattered abroad, he hath given to the poor; His righteousness abideth for ever.

⁹som skrevet er: Han strødde ut, han gav de fattige; hans rettferdighet blir til evig tid.

¹⁰And he that supplieth seed to the sower and bread for food, shall supply and multiply your seed for sowing, and increase the fruits of your righteousness:

¹⁰Og han som gir såmannen såkorn og brød til å ete, han skal og gi eder utsæd og øke den og gi vekst til fruktene av eders rettferdighet,

¹¹ye being enriched in everything unto all liberality, which worketh through us thanksgiving to God.

¹¹idet I blir rike i alle ting til all opriktig kjærlighet, som ved oss virker takksigelse til Gud.

¹²For the ministration of this service not only filleth up the measure of the wants of the saints, but aboundeth also through many thanksgivings unto God;

¹²For den hjelp som ydes ved denne tjeneste, råder ikke bare bot på de helliges trang, men bærer også rik frukt ved manges takksigelser til Gud,

¹³seeing that through the proving [of you] by this ministration they glorify God for the obedience of your confession unto the gospel of Christ, and for the liberality of [your] contribution unto them and unto all;

¹³idet de ved det hjertelag som denne hjelp viser, kommer til å prise Gud for eders lydighet til å bekjenne Kristi evangelium og for opriktigheten i eders samfund med dem og med alle,

¹⁴while they themselves also, with supplication on your behalf, long after you by reason of the exceeding grace of God in you.

¹⁴idet også de med bønn for eder lenges efter eder på grunn av den Guds nåde som er så overvettes rik over eder.
