¹Then answered Eliphaz the Temanite, and said,

¹И отвечал Елифаз Феманитянин и сказал:

²Should a wise man make answer with vain knowledge, And fill himself with the east wind?

²станет ли мудрый отвечать знанием пустым и наполнять чрево своеветром палящим,

³Should he reason with unprofitable talk, Or with speeches wherewith he can do no good?

³оправдываться словами бесполезными и речью, не имеющею никакой силы?

⁴Yea, thou doest away with fear, And hinderest devotion before God.

⁴Да ты отложил и страх и за малость считаешь речь к Богу.

⁵For thine iniquity teacheth thy mouth, And thou choosest the tongue of the crafty.

⁵Нечестие твое настроило так уста твои, и ты избрал язык лукавых.

⁶Thine own mouth condemneth thee, and not I; Yea, thine own lips testify against thee.

⁶Тебя обвиняют уста твои, а не я, и твой язык говорит против тебя.

⁷Art thou the first man that was born? Or wast thou brought forth before the hills?

⁷Разве ты первым человеком родился и прежде холмов создан?

⁸Hast thou heard the secret counsel of God? And dost thou limit wisdom to thyself?

⁸Разве совет Божий ты слышал и привлек к себе премудрость?

⁹What knowest thou, that we know not? What understandest thou, which is not in us?

⁹Что знаешь ты, чего бы не знали мы? что разумеешь ты, чего не было бы и у нас?

¹⁰With us are both the gray-headed and the very aged men, Much elder than thy father.

¹⁰И седовласый и старец есть между нами, днями превышающий отца твоего.

¹¹Are the consolations of God too small for thee, Even the word that is gentle toward thee?

¹¹Разве малость для тебя утешения Божии? И это неизвестно тебе?

¹²Why doth thy heart carry thee away? And why do thine eyes flash,

¹²К чему порывает тебя сердце твое, и к чему так гордо смотришь?

¹³That against God thou turnest thy spirit, And lettest words go out of thy mouth?

¹³Что устремляешь против Бога дух твой и устами твоими произносишь такие речи?

¹⁴What is man, that he should be clean? And he that is born of a woman, that he should be righteous?

¹⁴Что такое человек, чтоб быть ему чистым, и чтобы рожденному женщиною быть праведным?

¹⁵Behold, he putteth no trust in his holy ones; Yea, the heavens are not clean in his sight:

¹⁵Вот, Он и святым Своим не доверяет, и небеса нечисты в очах Его:

¹⁶How much less one that is abominable and corrupt, A man that drinketh iniquity like water!

¹⁶тем больше нечист и растлен человек, пьющий беззаконие, как воду.

¹⁷I will show thee, hear thou me; And that which I have seen I will declare:

¹⁷Я буду говорить тебе, слушай меня; я расскажу тебе, что видел,

¹⁸(Which wise men have told From their fathers, and have not hid it;

¹⁸что слышали мудрые и не скрыли слышанного от отцов своих,

¹⁹Unto whom alone the land was given, And no stranger passed among them):

¹⁹которым одним отдана была земля, и среди которых чужой не ходил.

²⁰The wicked man travaileth with pain all his days, Even the number of years that are laid up for the oppressor.

²⁰Нечестивый мучит себя во все дни свои, и число лет закрыто отпритеснителя;

²¹A sound of terrors is in his ears; In prosperity the destroyer shall come upon him.

²¹звук ужасов в ушах его; среди мира идет на него губитель.

²²He believeth not that he shall return out of darkness, And he is waited for of the sword.

²²Он не надеется спастись от тьмы; видит пред собою меч.

²³He wandereth abroad for bread, [saying], Where is it? He knoweth that the day of darkness is ready at his hand.

²³Он скитается за куском хлеба повсюду; знает, что уже готов, в руках у него день тьмы.

²⁴Distress and anguish make him afraid; They prevail against him, as a king ready to the battle.

²⁴Устрашает его нужда и теснота; одолевает его, как царь, приготовившийся к битве,

²⁵Because he hath stretched out his hand against God, And behaveth himself proudly against the Almighty;

²⁵за то, что он простирал против Бога руку свою и противился Вседержителю,

²⁶He runneth upon him with a [stiff] neck, With the thick bosses of his bucklers;

²⁶устремлялся против Него с гордою выею, под толстыми щитами своими;

²⁷Because he hath covered his face with his fatness, And gathered fat upon his loins;

²⁷потому что он покрыл лице свое жиром своим и обложил туком лядвеи свои.

²⁸And he hath dwelt in desolate cities, In houses which no man inhabited, Which were ready to become heaps;

²⁸И он селится в городах разоренных, в домах, в которых не живут,которые обречены на развалины.

²⁹He shall not be rich, neither shall his substance continue, Neither shall their possessions be extended on the earth.

²⁹Не пребудет он богатым, и не уцелеет имущество его,и не распрострется по земле приобретение его.

³⁰He shall not depart out of darkness; The flame shall dry up his branches, And by the breath of [God's] mouth shall he go away.

³⁰Не уйдет от тьмы; отрасли его иссушит пламя и дуновением уст своих увлечет его.

³¹Let him not trust in vanity, deceiving himself; For vanity shall be his recompense.

³¹Пусть не доверяет суете заблудший, ибо суета будет и воздаянием ему.

³²It shall be accomplished before his time, And his branch shall not be green.

³²Не в свой день он скончается, и ветви его не будут зеленеть.

³³He shall shake off his unripe grape as the vine, And shall cast off his flower as the olive-tree.

³³Сбросит он, как виноградная лоза, недозрелую ягоду свою и, как маслина, стряхнет цвет свой.

³⁴For the company of the godless shall be barren, And fire shall consume the tents of bribery.

³⁴Так опустеет дом нечестивого, и огонь пожрет шатры мздоимства.

³⁵They conceive mischief, and bring forth iniquity, And their heart prepareth deceit.

³⁵Он зачал зло и родил ложь, и утроба его приготовляет обман.
