¹The proverbs of Solomon the son of David, king of Israel:

¹Притчи Соломона, сына Давидова, царя Израильского,

²To know wisdom and instruction; To discern the words of understanding;

²чтобы познать мудрость и наставление, понять изречения разума;

³To receive instruction in wise dealing, In righteousness and justice and equity;

³усвоить правила благоразумия, правосудия, суда и правоты;

⁴To give prudence to the simple, To the young man knowledge and discretion:

⁴простым дать смышленость, юноше – знание и рассудительность;

⁵That the wise man may hear, and increase in learning; And that the man of understanding may attain unto sound counsels:

⁵послушает мудрый – и умножит познания, и разумный найдет мудрые советы;

⁶To understand a proverb, and a figure, The words of the wise, and their dark sayings.

⁶чтобы разуметь притчу и замысловатую речь, слова мудрецов и загадки их.

⁷The fear of Jehovah is the beginning of knowledge; [But] the foolish despise wisdom and instruction.

⁷Начало мудрости – страх Господень; глупцы только презирают мудрость и наставление.

⁸My son, hear the instruction of thy father, And forsake not the law of thy mother:

⁸Слушай, сын мой, наставление отца твоего и не отвергай завета матери твоей,

⁹For they shall be a chaplet of grace unto thy head, And chains about thy neck.

⁹потому что это – прекрасный венок для головы твоей и украшение для шеи твоей.

¹⁰My son, if sinners entice thee, Consent thou not.

¹⁰Сын мой! если будут склонять тебя грешники, не соглашайся;

¹¹If they say, Come with us, Let us lay wait for blood; Let us lurk privily for the innocent without cause;

¹¹если будут говорить: „иди с нами, сделаем засаду для убийства, подстережем непорочного без вины,

¹²Let us swallow them up alive as Sheol, And whole, as those that go down into the pit;

¹²живых проглотим их, как преисподняя, и – целых, как нисходящих в могилу;

¹³We shall find all precious substance; We shall fill our houses with spoil;

¹³наберем всякого драгоценного имущества, наполним домы наши добычею;

¹⁴Thou shalt cast thy lot among us; We will all have one purse:

¹⁴жребий твой ты будешь бросать вместе с нами, склад один будет у всех нас", –

¹⁵My son, walk not thou in the way with them; Refrain thy foot from their path:

¹⁵сын мой! не ходи в путь с ними, удержи ногу твою от стези их,

¹⁶For their feet run to evil, And they make haste to shed blood.

¹⁶потому что ноги их бегут ко злу и спешат на пролитие крови.

¹⁷For in vain is the net spread In the sight of any bird:

¹⁷В глазах всех птиц напрасно расставляется сеть,

¹⁸And these lay wait for their own blood; They lurk privily for their own lives.

¹⁸а делают засаду для их крови и подстерегают их души.

¹⁹So are the ways of every one that is greedy of gain; It taketh away the life of the owners thereof.

¹⁹Таковы пути всякого, кто алчет чужого добра: оно отнимает жизнь у завладевшего им.

²⁰Wisdom crieth aloud in the street; She uttereth her voice in the broad places;

²⁰Премудрость возглашает на улице, на площадях возвышает голос свой,

²¹She crieth in the chief place of concourse; At the entrance of the gates, In the city, she uttereth her words:

²¹в главных местах собраний проповедует, при входахв городские ворота говорит речь свою:

²²How long, ye simple ones, will ye love simplicity? And scoffers delight them in scoffing, And fools hate knowledge?

²²„доколе, невежды, будете любить невежество? доколе буйные будут услаждаться буйством? доколе глупцы будут ненавидеть знание?

²³Turn you at my reproof: Behold, I will pour out my spirit upon you; I will make known my words unto you.

²³Обратитесь к моему обличению: вот, я изолью на вас дух мой, возвещу вам слова мои.

²⁴Because I have called, and ye have refused; I have stretched out my hand, and no man hath regarded;

²⁴Я звала, и вы не послушались; простирала руку мою, и не было внимающего;

²⁵But ye have set at nought all my counsel, And would none of my reproof:

²⁵и вы отвергли все мои советы, и обличений моих не приняли.

²⁶I also will laugh in [the day of] your calamity; I will mock when your fear cometh;

²⁶За то и я посмеюсь вашей погибели; порадуюсь, когда придет на вас ужас;

²⁷When your fear cometh as a storm, And your calamity cometh on as a whirlwind; When distress and anguish come upon you.

²⁷когда придет на вас ужас, как буря, и беда, как вихрь, принесется на вас; когда постигнет вас скорбь и теснота.

²⁸Then will they call upon me, but I will not answer; They will seek me diligently, but they shall not find me:

²⁸Тогда будут звать меня, и я не услышу; с утра будут искать меня, и не найдут меня.

²⁹For that they hated knowledge, And did not choose the fear of Jehovah:

²⁹За то, что они возненавидели знание и не избрали для себя страха Господня,

³⁰They would none of my counsel; They despised all my reproof.

³⁰не приняли совета моего, презрели все обличения мои;

³¹Therefore shall they eat of the fruit of their own way, And be filled with their own devices.

³¹за то и будут они вкушать от плодов путей своих и насыщаться от помыслов их.

³²For the backsliding of the simple shall slay them, And the careless ease of fools shall destroy them.

³²Потому что упорство невежд убьет их, и беспечность глупцов погубитих,

³³But whoso hearkeneth unto me shall dwell securely, And shall be quiet without fear of evil.

³³а слушающий меня будет жить безопасно и спокойно, не страшась зла".
