¹Follow after love; yet desire earnestly spiritual [gifts], but rather that ye may prophesy.

¹Stíhajte lásku a snažte sa horlive o duchovné dary, ale viacej, aby ste prorokovali.

²For he that speaketh in a tongue speaketh not unto men, but unto God; for no man understandeth; but in the spirit he speaketh mysteries.

²Lebo ten, kto hovorí jazykom, nehovorí ľuďom, ale Bohu, lebo nikto nerozumie, ale duchom hovorí tajomstvá.

³But he that prophesieth speaketh unto men edification, and exhortation, and consolation.

³No, ten, kto prorokuje, hovorí ľuďom na vzdelanie, napomenutie a potešenie.

⁴He that speaketh in a tongue edifieth himself; but he that prophesieth edifieth the church.

⁴Ten, kto hovorí jazykom, vzdeláva sám seba; ale ten, kto prorokuje, vzdeláva cirkev.

⁵Now I would have you all speak with tongues, but rather that ye should prophesy: and greater is he that prophesieth than he that speaketh with tongues, except he interpret, that the church may receive edifying.

⁵A chcel by som, aby ste všetci hovorili jazykmi, ale radšej, aby ste prorokovali; lebo je väčší ten, kto prorokuje, ako ten, kto hovorí jazykmi, krome ak by aj vykladal, aby sa vzdelávala cirkev.

⁶But now, brethren, if I come unto you speaking with tongues, what shall I profit you, unless I speak to you either by way of revelation, or of knowledge, or of prophesying, or of teaching?

⁶No, teraz, bratia, keby som prišiel k vám hovoriac jazykmi, čo by som vám prospel, keby som vám nehovoril buď zjavením buď známosťou buď proroctvom buď učením?

⁷Even things without life, giving a voice, whether pipe or harp, if they give not a distinction in the sounds, how shall it be known what is piped or harped?

⁷Veď aj bezdušné veci, vydávajúce zvuk, buď píšťala buď harfa, keby nedaly rozdielneho zvuku, jakože sa bude vedieť, čo sa píska alebo hrá?

⁸For if the trumpet give an uncertain voice, who shall prepare himself for war?

⁸Alebo tiež keby trúba vydala neistý zvuk, kto sa bude chystať do boja?

⁹So also ye, unless ye utter by the tongue speech easy to understood, how shall it be known what is spoken? for ye will be speaking into the air.

⁹Tak aj vy, keď ste jazykom nevydali srozumiteľného slova, jako sa bude vedieť, čo sa hovorí? Lebo budete hovoriť do povetria.

¹⁰There are, it may be, so many kinds of voices in the world, and no [kind] is without signification.

¹⁰Tak mnoho je, keby prišlo na to, rôznych zvukov na svete, a nič nie je bez zvuku;

¹¹If then I know not the meaning of the voice, I shall be to him that speaketh a barbarian, and he that speaketh will be a barbarian unto me.

¹¹keby som tedy neznal moci čiže smyslu hlasu, budem tomu, kto hovorí, barbarom, a ten, kto hovorí, bude u mňa barbarom.

¹²So also ye, since ye are zealous of spiritual [gifts], seek that ye may abound unto the edifying of the church.

¹²Tak aj vy, preto že ste horlivcami za duchovné dary, na vzdelanie cirkvi hľadajte, aby ste hojneli.

¹³Wherefore let him that speaketh in a tongue pray that he may interpret.

¹³Pre tú príčinu ten, kto hovorí jazykom, nech sa modlí, že by vykladal.

¹⁴For if I pray in a tongue, my spirit prayeth, but my understanding is unfruitful.

¹⁴Lebo keď sa modlím jazykom, modlí sa môj duch, ale moja myseľ je bez užitku.

¹⁵What is it then? I will pray with the spirit, and I will pray with the understanding also: I will sing with the spirit, and I will sing with the understanding also.

¹⁵Čo tedy robiť? Budem sa modliť duchom, ale sa budem modliť aj mysľou; budem spievať chvály duchom, ale budem spievať chvály aj mysľou.

¹⁶Else if thou bless with the spirit, how shall he that filleth the place of the unlearned say the Amen at thy giving of thanks, seeing he knoweth not what thou sayest?

¹⁶Pretože keby si dobrorečil duchom, ako potom ten, kto zaujíma miesto prostého človeka, povie na tvoje ďakovanie ameň, keď nevie, čo hovoríš?

¹⁷For thou verily givest thanks well, but the other is not edified.

¹⁷Lebo ty síce dobre ďakuješ, ale druhý sa nevzdeláva.

¹⁸I thank God, I speak with tongues more than you all:

¹⁸Ďakujem svojmu Bohu, že viacej hovorím jazykmi ako vy všetci;

¹⁹howbeit in the church I had rather speak five words with my understanding, that I might instruct others also, than ten thousand words in a tongue.

¹⁹ale v sbore by som chcel prehovoriť radšej päť slov svojou mysľou, srozumiteľne, aby som aj iných poučil, než desať tisíc slov jazykom.

²⁰Brethren, be not children in mind: yet in malice be ye babes, but in mind be men.

²⁰Bratia, nebuďte deťmi rozumom, lež zlobou buďte nedospelými, ale rozumom buďte dokonalí.

²¹In the law it is written, By men of strange tongues and by the lips of strangers will I speak unto this people; and not even thus will they hear me, saith the Lord.

²¹V zákone je napísané: Inými jazykmi a inými rtami budem hovoriť tomuto ľudu; ale ani tak ma nepočúvnu, hovorí Pán.

²²Wherefore tongues are for a sign, not to them that believe, but to the unbelieving: but prophesying [is for a sign], not to the unbelieving, but to them that believe.

²²Takže jazyky sú na znamenie, a nie tým, ktorí veria, ale neveriacim; a proroctvo nie neveriacim, ale tým, ktorí veria.

²³If therefore the whole church be assembled together and all speak with tongues, and there come in men unlearned or unbelieving, will they not say that ye are mad?

²³Keby sa tedy dovedna sišiel celý sbor, a všetci by hovorili jazykmi, a vošli by ta prostí ľudia, ktorí sa nerozumejú do vecí, alebo neveriaci, či nepovedia, že bláznite?

²⁴But if all prophesy, and there come in one unbelieving or unlearned, he is reproved by all, he is judged by all;

²⁴Ale keby všetci prorokovali, a vošiel by niekto neveriaci alebo prostý, bude káravo usviedčaný od všetkých, súdený od všetkých,

²⁵the secrets of his heart are made manifest; and so he will fall down on his face and worship God, declaring that God is among you indeed.

²⁵a tak budú zjavované tajnosti jeho srdca, a tak padne na tvár a bude sa klaňať Bohu vyznávajúc, že je skutočne Bôh medzi vami.

²⁶What is it then, brethren? When ye come together, each one hath a psalm, hath a teaching, hath a revelation, hath a tongue, hath an interpretation. Let all things be done unto edifying.

²⁶Tak čo tedy robiť, bratia? Keď sa schádzate, každý z vás má žalm, má učenie, má zjavenie, má jazyk, má výklad - všetko nech je na vzdelanie.

²⁷If any man speaketh in a tongue, [let it be] by two, or at the most three, and [that] in turn; and let one interpret:

²⁷Buď že hovorí niekto jazykom, po dvoch alebo najviac traja a jeden po druhom, a jeden nech vykladá.

²⁸but if there be no interpreter, let him keep silence in the church; and let him speak to himself, and to God.

²⁸A keby nebolo vykladača, nech mlčí v sbore, a nech hovorí sám sebe a Bohu.

²⁹And let the prophets speak [by] two or three, and let the others discern.

²⁹A proroci nech hovoria dvaja alebo traja, a druhí nech rozsudzujú.

³⁰But if a revelation be made to another sitting by, let the first keep silence.

³⁰A keby bolo niečo zjavené druhému, kto sedí, prvý nech mlčí.

³¹For ye all can prophesy one by one, that all may learn, and all may be exhorted;

³¹Lebo po jednom môžete všetci prorokovať, aby sa všetci učili a všetci sa potešovali

³²and the spirits of the prophets are subject to the prophets;

³²(A duchovia prorokov sa podriaďujú prorokom;

³³for God is not [a God] of confusion, but of peace. As in all the churches of the saints,

³³lebo Bôh nie je Bohom neporiadku, ale pokoja), ako vo všetkých sboroch svätých.

³⁴let the women keep silence in the churches: for it is not permitted unto them to speak; but let them be in subjection, as also saith the law.

³⁴Vaše ženy nech mlčia v sboroch, lebo sa im nedovoľuje hovoriť, ale podriaďovať sa, jako i zákon hovorí.

³⁵And if they would learn anything, let them ask their own husbands at home: for it is shameful for a woman to speak in the church.

³⁵A jestli sa chcú niečo naučiť, nech sa doma pýtajú svojich vlastných mužov, lebo je mrzká vec žene hovoriť v sbore.

³⁶What? was it from you that the word of God went forth? or came it unto you alone?

³⁶Alebo či od vás vyšlo slovo Božie? Alebo či len k vám samým prišlo?

³⁷If any man thinketh himself to be a prophet, or spiritual, let him take knowledge of the things which I write unto you, that they are the commandment of the Lord.

³⁷Ak niekto myslí o sebe, že je prorok alebo duchovný, nech pozná dobre, čo vám píšem, že sú to prikázania Pánove.

³⁸But if any man is ignorant, let him be ignorant.

³⁸Ale ak niekto nevie, nech nevie.

³⁹Wherefore, my brethren, desire earnestly to prophesy, and forbid not to speak with tongues.

³⁹A tak, moji bratia, snažte sa horlive, aby ste prorokovali, a hovoriť jazykmi nebráňte,

⁴⁰But let all things be done decently and in order.

⁴⁰a všetko nech sa deje slušne a podľa poriadku.
