¹Finally then, brethren, we beseech and exhort you in the Lord Jesus, that, as ye received of us how ye ought to walk and to please God, even as ye do walk, --that ye abound more and more.

¹A tak ostatne, bratia, prosíme vás a napomíname v Pánu Ježišovi, aby ste v tom, ako ste prijali od nás, ako sa máte chovať a ľúbiť sa Bohu, jako sa aj chováte, aby ste v tom ešte väčšmi hojneli.

²For ye know what charge we gave you through the Lord Jesus.

²Lebo viete, ktoré príkazy sme vám dali skrze Pána Ježiša.

³For this is the will of God, [even] your sanctification, that ye abstain from fornication;

³Lebo to je vôľa Božia - vaše posvätenie, aby ste sa zdŕžali od smilstva,

⁴that each one of you know how to possess himself of his own vessel in sanctification and honor,

⁴aby jeden každý z vás vedel zaobchodiť so svojou nádobou v posvätení a v česti,

⁵not in the passion of lust, even as the Gentiles who know not God;

⁵nie v náruživosti žiadosti jako aj pohania, ktorí neznajú Boha,

⁶that no man transgress, and wrong his brother in the matter: because the Lord is an avenger in all these things, as also we forewarned you and testified.

⁶aby neprekračoval a nekoristil vo veci svojho brata, pretože je Pán pomstiteľom všetkého toho, jako sme vám už aj prv povedali a osvedčili.

⁷For God called us not for uncleanness, but in sanctification.

⁷Lebo nepovolal nás Bôh nato, aby sme žili v nečistote, ale v posvätení.

⁸Therefore he that rejecteth, rejecteth not man, but God, who giveth his Holy Spirit unto you.

⁸Preto v tedy, kto opovrhuje, neopovrhuje človekom, ale Bohom, ktorý aj dáva svojho Svätého Ducha do nás.

⁹But concerning love of the brethren ye have no need that one write unto you: for ye yourselves are taught of God to love one another;

⁹A o bratskej láske vám netreba písať, lebo vy ste sami vyučení od Boha, aby ste sa milovali navzájom.

¹⁰for indeed ye do it toward all the brethren that are in all Macedonia. But we exhort you, brethren, that ye abound more and more;

¹⁰Lebo to aj činíte všetkým bratom v celej Macedonii. Ale vás napomíname, bratia, aby ste v tom ešte viac hojneli.

¹¹and that ye study to be quiet, and to do your own business, and to work with your hands, even as we charged you;

¹¹A snažte sa všemožne byť ticho a konať svoje a pracovať svojimi vlastnými rukami, tak ako sme vám prikázali,

¹²that ye may walk becomingly toward them that are without, and may have need of nothing.

¹²aby ste sa chovali slušne pred tými, ktorí sú vonku, a nepotrebovali nikoho.

¹³But we would not have you ignorant, brethren, concerning them that fall asleep; that ye sorrow not, even as the rest, who have no hope.

¹³Ale nechceme, bratia, aby ste nevedeli o tých, ktorí zosnuli, aby ste sa nermútili jako aj ostatní, ktorí nemajú nádeje.

¹⁴For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also that are fallen asleep in Jesus will God bring with him.

¹⁴Lebo ak veríme, že Ježiš zomrel i vstal z mŕtvych, tak i Bôh tých, ktorí zosnuli, skrze Ježiša privedie s ním.

¹⁵For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we that are alive, that are left unto the coming of the Lord, shall in no wise precede them that are fallen asleep.

¹⁵Lebo to vám hovoríme slovom Pánovým, že my živí, ponechaní do príchodu Pánovho, istotne nepredstihneme tých, ktorí zosnuli.

¹⁶For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven, with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first;

¹⁶Lebo sám Pán s veliteľským povelom, s hlasom archanjela a s trúbou Božou sostúpi s neba, a mŕtvi v Kristu vstanú najprv;

¹⁷then we that are alive, that are left, shall together with them be caught up in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.

¹⁷potom my živí ponechaní budeme razom s nimi vychvátení v oblakoch v ústrety Pánovi do povetria. A takto budeme vždycky s Pánom.

¹⁸Wherefore comfort one another with these words.

¹⁸Takže sa potešujte navzájom týmito slovami.
