1Job progovori i reče:
1And Job answered and said,
2"Zar mi je i danas tužaljka buntovna? Teška mu ruka iz mene vapaj budi:
2Even to-day is my complaint bitter: my stroke is heavier than my groaning.
3o, kada bih znao kako ću ga naći, do njegova kako doprijeti prijestolja,
3Oh that I knew where I might find him, that I might come to his seat!
4pred njim parnicu bih svoju razložio, iz mojih bi usta navrli dokazi.
4I would order the cause before him, and fill my mouth with arguments;
5Rad bih znati što bi meni odvratio i razumjeti riječ što bi je rekao!
5I would know the words he would answer me, and understand what he would say unto me.
6Zar mu treba snage velike za raspru? Ne, dosta bi bilo da me on sasluša.
6Would he plead against me with [his] great power? Nay; but he would give heed unto me.
7U protivniku bi vidio pravedna, i parnica moja tad bi pobijedila.
7There would an upright man reason with him; and I should be delivered for ever from my judge.
8Na istok krenem li, naći ga ne mogu; pođem li na zapad, ne razabirem ga.
8Lo, I go forward, but he is not there; and backward, but I do not perceive him;
9Ištem na sjeveru, al' ga ne opažam; nevidljiv je ako se k jugu okrenem.
9On the left hand, where he doth work, but I behold [him] not; he hideth himself on the right hand, and I see [him] not.
10Pa ipak, on dobro zna put kojim kročim! Neka me kuša: čist k'o zlato ću izići!
10But he knoweth the way that I take; he trieth me, I shall come forth as gold.
11Noga mi se stopa njegovih držala, putem sam njegovim išao ne skrećuć';
11My foot hath held to his steps; his way have I kept, and not turned aside.
12slušao sam nalog njegovih usana, pohranih mu riječi u grudima svojim.
12Neither have I gone back from the commandment of his lips; I have laid up the words of his mouth more than the purpose of my own heart.
13Al' htjedne li štogod, tko će ga odvratit'? Što zaželi dušom, to će ispuniti.
13But he is in one [mind], and who can turn him? And what his soul desireth, that will he do.
14Izvršit će što je dosudio meni, kao i sve drugo što je odlučio!
14For he will perform [what] is appointed for me; and many such things are with him.
15Zbog toga pred njime sav ustravljen ja sam, i što više mislim, jače strah me hvata.
15Therefore am I troubled at his presence; I consider, and I am afraid of him.
16U komade Bog mi je srce smrvio, užasom me svega prožeo Svesilni,
16For ùGod hath made my heart soft, and the Almighty troubleth me;
17premda nisam ni u tminama propao, ni u mraku što je lice moje zastro.
17Because I was not cut off before the darkness, neither hath he hidden the gloom from me.
