¹Potom po čtrnácti letech opět vstoupil jsem do Jeruzaléma s Barnabášem, pojav s sebou i Tita.

¹Then after a period of fourteen years I went up again to Jerusalem with Barnabas, taking Titus also with me.

²Vstoupil jsem pak podle zjevení, a vypravoval jsem jim evangelium, kteréž káži mezi pohany, a zvláště pak znamenitějším, abych snad nadarmo neběžel nyní i prve.

²I went up by revelation, and I laid before them the Good News which I preach among the Gentiles, but privately before those who were respected, for fear that I might be running, or had run, in vain.

³Ale ani Titus, kterýž se mnou byl, pohan byv, nebyl přinucen obřezati se,

³But not even Titus, who was with me, being a Greek, was compelled to be circumcised.

⁴Totiž pro podešlé falešné bratří, kteříž se byli vloudili k vyšpehování svobody naší, kterouž máme v Kristu Ježíši, aby nás v službu podrobili.

⁴This was because of the false brothers secretly brought in, who stole in to spy out our liberty which we have in Christ Jesus, that they might bring us into bondage;

⁵Kterýmžto ani na chvilku neustoupili jsme a nepoddali se, aby pravda evangelium zůstala u vás.

⁵to whom we gave no place in the way of subjection, not for an hour, that the truth of the Good News might continue with you.

⁶Od těch pak, kteříž se zdadí něco býti, nic mi není přidáno, ač jací jsou někdy byli, mně potom nic není, Bůhť osoby člověka nepřijímá; ti, pravím, kteříž se něco zdadí býti, nic mi nepřidali.

⁶But from those who were reputed to be important (whatever they were, it makes no difference to me; God doesn’t show partiality to man)—they, I say, who were respected imparted nothing to me,

⁷Nýbrž naodpor, když uzřeli, že jest mi svěřeno evangelium, abych je kázal neobřezaným, jako i Petrovi mezi Židy,

⁷but to the contrary, when they saw that I had been entrusted with the Good News for the uncircumcision, even as Peter with the Good News for the circumcision

⁸(Nebo ten, kterýž mocný byl skrze Petra z strany apoštolství mezi Židy, byl mocný i skrze mne mezi pohany,)

⁸(for he who appointed Peter to the apostleship of the circumcision appointed me also to the Gentiles);

⁹A poznavše milost mně danou, Jakub a Petr a Jan, kteříž se zdadí sloupové býti, podali svých pravic mně a Barnabášovi na tovaryšství, abychom my mezi pohany a oni mezi Židy kázali.

⁹and when they perceived the grace that was given to me, James and Cephas and John, they who were reputed to be pillars, gave to me and Barnabas the right hand of fellowship, that we should go to the Gentiles, and they to the circumcision.

¹⁰Toliko napomenuli, abychom na chudé pamatovali, což jsem se i činiti snažoval.

¹⁰They only asked us to remember the poor—which very thing I was also zealous to do.

¹¹A když byl přišel Petr do Antiochie, zjevně jsem jemu odepřel; hoden zajisté byl trestání.

¹¹But when Peter came to Antioch, I resisted him to his face, because he stood condemned.

¹²Nebo prve nežli jsou přišli někteří od Jakuba, jídal s pohany, a když přišli, ucházel a odděloval se od nich, boje se těch, kteříž byli z Židovstva.

¹²For before some people came from James, he ate with the Gentiles. But when they came, he drew back and separated himself, fearing those who were of the circumcision.

¹³A spolu s ním v tom pokrytství byli i jiní Židé, takže i Barnabáš uveden byl v jejich pokrytství.

¹³And the rest of the Jews joined him in his hypocrisy; so that even Barnabas was carried away with their hypocrisy.

¹⁴Ale já uzřev, že nesprostně chodí v pravdě evangelium, řekl jsem Petrovi přede všemi: Poněvadž ty jsa Žid, pohansky živ jsi, a ne Židovsky, proč pohany k Židovskému způsobu vedeš?

¹⁴But when I saw that they didn’t walk uprightly according to the truth of the Good News, I said to Peter before them all, “If you, being a Jew, live as the Gentiles do, and not as the Jews do, why do you compel the Gentiles to live as the Jews do?

¹⁵My přirození Židé, a ne pohané hříšní,

¹⁵“We, being Jews by nature, and not Gentile sinners,

¹⁶Vědouce, že nebývá člověk ospravedlněn z skutků Zákona, ale skrze víru v Jezukrista, i my v Krista uvěřili jsme, abychom ospravedlněni byli z víry Kristovy, a ne z skutků Zákona, protože nebude ospravedlněn z skutků Zákona žádný člověk.

¹⁶yet knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law but through faith in Jesus Christ, even we believed in Christ Jesus, that we might be justified by faith in Christ, and not by the works of the law, because no flesh will be justified by the works of the law.

¹⁷Jestliže pak hledajíce ospravedlněni býti v Kristu, nalézáme se i my hříšníci, tedy jest Kristus služebník hřícha? Nikoli.

¹⁷But if, while we sought to be justified in Christ, we ourselves also were found sinners, is Christ a servant of sin? Certainly not!

¹⁸Nebo budu-li to, což jsem zbořil, opět zase vzdělávati, přestupníkem sebe činím.

¹⁸For if I build up again those things which I destroyed, I prove myself a law-breaker.

¹⁹Já zajisté skrze Zákon Zákonu umřel jsem, abych živ byl Bohu.

¹⁹For I, through the law, died to the law, that I might live to God.

²⁰S Kristem ukřižován jsem. Živť jsem pak již ne já, ale živ jest ve mně Kristus. Že pak nyní živ jsem v těle, u víře Syna Božího živ jsem, kterýžto zamiloval mne a vydal sebe samého za mne.

²⁰I have been crucified with Christ, and it is no longer I that live, but Christ living in me. That life which I now live in the flesh, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself up for me.

²¹Nepohrdámť tou milostí Boží. Nebo jestližeť jest z Zákona spravedlnost, tedyť jest Kristus nadarmo umřel.

²¹I don’t make void the grace of God. For if righteousness is through the law, then Christ died for nothing!”
