¹Pravímť pak, že pokudž dědic maličký jest, nic není rozdílný od služebníka, jsa pánem všeho,

¹But I say that so long as the heir is a child, he is no different from a bondservant, though he is lord of all;

²Ale pod ochráncemi a správcemi jest až do času uloženého od otce.

²but is under guardians and stewards until the day appointed by the father.

³Tak i my, když jsme byli maličcí, pod živly světa byli jsme v službu podrobeni.

³So we also, when we were children, were held in bondage under the elemental principles of the world.

⁴Ale když přišla plnost času, poslal Bůh Syna svého učiněného z ženy, učiněného pod Zákonem,

⁴But when the fullness of the time came, God sent out his Son, born to a woman, born under the law,

⁵Aby ty, kteříž pod Zákonem byli, vykoupil, abychom právo synů přijali.

⁵that he might redeem those who were under the law, that we might receive the adoption of children.

⁶A že jste synové, protož poslal Bůh Ducha Syna svého v srdce vaše, volajícího: Abba, totiž Otče.

⁶And because you are children, God sent out the Spirit of his Son into your hearts, crying, “Abba, Abba is a Greek spelling for the Aramaic word for “Father” or “Daddy” used in a familiar, respectful, and loving way. Father!”

⁷A tak již nejsi slouha, ale syn, a poněvadž syn, tedy i dědic Boží skrze Krista.

⁷So you are no longer a bondservant, but a son; and if a son, then an heir of God through Christ.

⁸Ale tehdáž, neměvše známosti Boha, sloužili jste těm, kteříž z přirození nejsou bohové.

⁸However at that time, not knowing God, you were in bondage to those who by nature are not gods.

⁹Nyní pak, znajíce Boha, nýbrž poznáni jsouce od Boha, kterakž se zpátkem zase obracíte k mdlým a bídným živlům, jimž opět znovu chcete sloužiti?

⁹But now that you have come to know God, or rather to be known by God, why do you turn back again to the weak and miserable elemental principles, to which you desire to be in bondage all over again?

¹⁰Dnů šetříte, a měsíců, a časů, i let.

¹⁰You observe days, months, seasons, and years.

¹¹Bojím se za vás, abych snad nadarmo nepracoval mezi vámi.

¹¹I am afraid for you, that I might have wasted my labor for you.

¹²Buďte jako já, neb i já jsem jako vy, bratří, prosím vás. Nic jste mi neublížili.

¹²I beg you, brothers, become as I am, for I also have become as you are. You did me no wrong,

¹³Neb víte, že s mdlobou těla kázal jsem vám evangelium ponejprve.

¹³but you know that because of weakness of the flesh I preached the Good News to you the first time.

¹⁴A pokušení mé, přišlé na tělo mé, nebylo u vás málo váženo, aniž jste pohrdli, ale jako anděla Božího přijali jste mne, jako Krista Ježíše.

¹⁴That which was a temptation to you in my flesh, you didn’t despise nor reject; but you received me as an angel of God, even as Christ Jesus.

¹⁵Jaké tehdy bylo blahoslavenství vaše? Svědectvíť vám zajisté dávám, že, kdyby to možné bylo, oči vaše vyloupíce, byli byste mi dali.

¹⁵What was the blessing you enjoyed? For I testify to you that, if possible, you would have plucked out your eyes and given them to me.

¹⁶Což tedy učiněn jsem vaším nepřítelem, pravdu vám pravě?

¹⁶So then, have I become your enemy by telling you the truth?

¹⁷Milujíť vás někteří nedobře, nýbrž odstrčiti vás chtějí, abyste vy je milovali.

¹⁷They zealously seek you in no good way. No, they desire to alienate you, that you may seek them.

¹⁸Slušnéť jest pak horlivě milovati v dobrém vždycky, a ne jen toliko tehdáž, když jsem přítomen vám.

¹⁸But it is always good to be zealous in a good cause, and not only when I am present with you.

¹⁹Synáčkové moji, (kteréž opět rodím, až by Kristus zformován byl v vás),

¹⁹My little children, of whom I am again in travail until Christ is formed in you—

²⁰Chtěl bych pak přítomen vám býti nyní a proměniti hlas svůj; nebo v pochybnosti jsem o vás.

²⁰but I could wish to be present with you now, and to change my tone, for I am perplexed about you.

²¹Povězte mi, kteříž pod Zákonem chcete býti, nepozorujete-liž Zákona?

²¹Tell me, you that desire to be under the law, don’t you listen to the law?

²²Nebo psáno jest: Že Abraham měl dva syny, jednoho z služebnice, a druhého z svobodné.

²²For it is written that Abraham had two sons, one by the handmaid, and one by the free woman.

²³Ale ten z služebnice podle těla se narodil, tento pak z svobodné podle zaslíbení.

²³However, the son by the handmaid was born according to the flesh, but the son by the free woman was born through promise.

²⁴Kteréžto věci u figuře se staly. Nebo toť jsou ti dva Zákonové, jeden s hory Sinai, k manství zplozující, a tenť jest jako Agar.

²⁴These things contain an allegory, for these are two covenants. One is from Mount Sinai, bearing children to bondage, which is Hagar.

²⁵Agar zajisté jest hora Sinai v Arabii. Dobřeť se pak k ní trefuje nynější Jeruzalém, nebo v službu podroben jest s syny svými.

²⁵For this Hagar is Mount Sinai in Arabia, and answers to the Jerusalem that exists now, for she is in bondage with her children.

²⁶Ale ten svrchní Jeruzalém svobodný jest, kterýž jest matka všech nás.

²⁶But the Jerusalem that is above is free, which is the mother of us all.

²⁷Nebo psáno jest: Vesel se neplodná, kteráž nerodíš, vykřikni a zvolej, kteráž nepracuješ ku porodu; nebo ta opuštěná mnoho má synů, více nežli ta, kteráž má muže.

²⁷For it is written, “Rejoice, you barren who don’t bear. Break forth and shout, you that don’t travail. For more are the children of the desolate than of her who has a husband.” Isaiah 54:1

²⁸Myť jsme tedy, ó bratří, tak jako Izák, synové zaslíbení.

²⁸Now we, brothers, as Isaac was, are children of promise.

²⁹Ale jakož tehdáž ten podle těla zplozený protivil se tomu, kterýž byl zplozen podle Ducha, tak se děje i nyní.

²⁹But as then, he who was born according to the flesh persecuted him who was born according to the Spirit, so also it is now.

³⁰Než co praví Písmo? Vyvrz služebnici i syna jejího; nebo nebudeť dědicem syn služebnice s synem svobodné.

³⁰However what does the Scripture say? “Throw out the handmaid and her son, for the son of the handmaid will not inherit with the son of the free woman.” Genesis 21:10

³¹A tak, bratří, nejsmeť synové služebnice, ale svobodné.

³¹So then, brothers, we are not children of a handmaid, but of the free woman.
