1Synu můj, na učení mé nezapomínej, ale přikázaní mých nechať ostříhá srdce tvé.
1My son, don’t forget my teaching; but let your heart keep my commandments:
2Dlouhosti zajisté dnů, i let života i pokoje přidadí tobě.
2for length of days, and years of life, and peace, will they add to you.
3Milosrdenství a pravda nechť neopouštějí tě, přivaž je k hrdlu svému, napiš je na tabuli srdce svého,
3Don’t let kindness and truth forsake you. Bind them around your neck. Write them on the tablet of your heart.
4A nalezneš milost a prospěch výborný před Bohem i lidmi.
4So you will find favor, and good understanding in the sight of God and man.
5Doufej v Hospodina celým srdcem svým, na rozumnost pak svou nezpoléhej.
5Trust in Yahweh with all your heart, and don’t lean on your own understanding.
6Na všech cestách svých snažuj se jej poznávati, a onť spravovati bude stezky tvé.
6In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight.
7Nebývej moudrý sám u sebe; boj se Hospodina, a odstup od zlého.
7Don’t be wise in your own eyes. Fear Yahweh, and depart from evil.
8Toť bude zdraví životu tvému, a rozvlažení kostem tvým.
8It will be health to your body, and nourishment to your bones.
9Cti Hospodina z statku svého, a z nejpřednějších věcí všech úrod svých,
9Honor Yahweh with your substance, with the first fruits of all your increase:
10A naplněny budou stodoly tvé hojností, a presové tvoji mstem oplývati budou.
10so your barns will be filled with plenty, and your vats will overflow with new wine.
11Kázně Hospodinovy, synu můj, nezamítej, aniž sobě oškliv domlouvání jeho.
11My son, don’t despise Yahweh’s discipline, neither be weary of his reproof:
12Nebo kohož miluje Hospodin, tresce, a to jako otec syna, jejž libuje.
12for whom Yahweh loves, he reproves; even as a father reproves the son in whom he delights.
13Blahoslavený člověk nalézající moudrost, a člověk vynášející opatrnost.
13Happy is the man who finds wisdom, the man who gets understanding.
14Lépeť jest zajisté těžeti jí, nežli těžeti stříbrem, anobrž nad výborné zlato užitek její.
14For her good profit is better than getting silver, and her return is better than fine gold.
15Dražší jest než drahé kamení, a všecky nejžádostivější věci tvé nevrovnají se jí.
15She is more precious than rubies. None of the things you can desire are to be compared to her.
16Dlouhost dnů v pravici její, a v levici její bohatství a sláva.
16Length of days is in her right hand. In her left hand are riches and honor.
17Cesty její cesty utěšené, a všecky stezky její pokojné.
17Her ways are ways of pleasantness. All her paths are peace.
18Stromem života jest těm, kteříž jí dosahují, a kteříž ji mají, blahoslavení jsou.
18She is a tree of life to those who lay hold of her. Happy is everyone who retains her.
19Hospodin moudrostí založil zemi, utvrdil nebesa opatrností.
19By wisdom Yahweh founded the earth. By understanding, he established the heavens.
20Uměním jeho propasti protrhují se, a oblakové vydávají rosu.
20By his knowledge, the depths were broken up, and the skies drop down the dew.
21Synu můj, nechť neodcházejí ty věci od očí tvých, ostříhej zdravého naučení a prozřetelnosti.
21My son, let them not depart from your eyes. Keep sound wisdom and discretion:
22I budeť to životem duši tvé, a ozdobou hrdlu tvému.
22so they will be life to your soul, and grace for your neck.
23Tehdy choditi budeš bezpečně cestou svou, a v nohu svou neurazíš se.
23Then you shall walk in your way securely. Your foot won’t stumble.
24Když lehneš, nebudeš se strašiti, ale odpočívati budeš, a bude libý sen tvůj.
24When you lie down, you will not be afraid. Yes, you will lie down, and your sleep will be sweet.
25Nelekneš se strachu náhlého, ani zpuštění bezbožníků, když přijde.
25Don’t be afraid of sudden fear, neither of the desolation of the wicked, when it comes:
26Nebo Hospodin bude doufání tvé, a ostříhati bude nohy tvé, abys nebyl lapen.
26for Yahweh will be your confidence, and will keep your foot from being taken.
27Nezadržuj dobrodiní potřebujícím, když s to býti můžeš, abys je činil.
27Don’t withhold good from those to whom it is due, when it is in the power of your hand to do it.
28Neříkej bližnímu svému: Odejdi, potom navrať se, a zítrať dám, maje to u sebe.
28Don’t say to your neighbor, “Go, and come again; tomorrow I will give it to you,” when you have it by you.
29Neukládej proti bližnímu svému zlého, kterýž s tebou dověrně bydlí.
29Don’t devise evil against your neighbor, since he dwells securely by you.
30Nevaď se s člověkem bez příčiny, jestližeť neučinil zlého.
30Don’t strive with a man without cause, if he has done you no harm.
31Nechtěj záviděti muži dráči, aniž zvoluj které cesty jeho.
31Don’t envy the man of violence. Choose none of his ways.
32Nebo ohavností jest Hospodinu převrácenec, ale s upřímými tajemství jeho.
32For the perverse is an abomination to Yahweh, but his friendship is with the upright.
33Zlořečení Hospodinovo jest v domě bezbožníka, ale příbytku spravedlivých žehná:
33Yahweh’s curse is in the house of the wicked, but he blesses the habitation of the righteous.
34Poněvadž posměvačům on se posmívá, pokorným pak dává milost.
34Surely he mocks the mockers, but he gives grace to the humble.
35Slávu moudří dědičně obdrží, ale blázny hubí pohanění.
35The wise will inherit glory, but shame will be the promotion of fools.
