1 Yna atebodd Eliffas y Temaniad:
1And Eliphaz the Temanite answered and said,
2 "Ai ateb gwybodaeth nad yw'n ddim ond gwynt a wna'r doeth, a llenwi ei fol 'r dwyreinwynt?
2Should a wise man answer with windy knowledge, and fill his belly with the east wind,
3 A ddadleua ef  gair di-fudd, ac  geiriau di-les?
3Reasoning with unprofitable talk, and with speeches which do no good?
4 Ond yr wyt ti'n diddymu duwioldeb, ac yn rhwystro defosiwn gerbron Duw.
4Yea, thou makest piety of none effect, and restrainest meditation before ùGod.
5 Oherwydd dy gamwedd sy'n hyfforddi dy enau, ac ymadrodd y cyfrwys a ddewisi.
5For thy mouth uttereth thine iniquity, and thou hast chosen the tongue of the crafty.
6 Dy enau dy hun sy'n dy gondemnio, nid myfi, a'th wefusau di sy'n tystio yn dy erbyn.
6Thine own mouth condemneth thee, and not I; and thy lips testify against thee.
7 "Ai ti a anwyd y cyntaf o bawb? A ddygwyd di i'r byd cyn y bryniau?
7Art thou the first man that was born? and wast thou brought forth before the hills?
8 A wyt ti'n gwrando ar gyfrinach Duw, ac yn cyfyngu doethineb i ti dy hun?
8Hast thou listened in the secret council of +God? And hast thou absorbed wisdom for thyself?
9 Beth a wyddost ti na wyddom ni? Pa grebwyll sydd gennyt nad yw gennym ninnau?
9What knowest thou that we know not? [what] understandest thou which is not in us?
10 Y mae yn ein mysg rai penwyn a rhai oedrannus, rhai sy'n hu375?n na'th dad.
10Both the greyheaded and the aged are with us, older than thy father.
11 Ai dibris yn d'olwg yw diddanwch Duw, a'r gair a ddaw'n ddistaw atat?
11Are the consolations of ùGod too small for thee? and the word gently spoken to thee?
12 Beth a ddaeth dros dy feddwl? Pam y mae dy lygaid yn fflachio
12Why doth thy heart carry thee away? and why do thine eyes wink?
13 fel yr wyt yn gosod dy ysbryd yn erbyn Duw, ac yn arllwys y geiriau hyn?
13That thou turnest thy spirit against ùGod, and lettest words go out of thy mouth?
14 Sut y gall neb fod yn ddieuog, ac un a anwyd o wraig fod yn gyfiawn?
14What is man, that he should be pure? and he that is born of a woman, that he should be righteous?
15 Os nad ymddiried Duw yn ei rai sanctaidd, os nad yw'r nefoedd yn ln yn ei olwg,
15Behold, he putteth no trust in his holy ones, and the heavens are not pure in his sight:
16 beth ynteu am feidrolyn, sy'n ffiaidd a llwgr, ac yn yfed anghyfiawnder fel du373?r?
16How much less the abominable and corrupt, -- man, that drinketh unrighteousness like water!
17 "Dangosaf iti; gwrando dithau arnaf. Mynegaf i ti yr hyn a welais
17I will shew thee, listen to me; and what I have seen I will declare;
18 (yr hyn y mae'r doethion wedi ei ddweud, ac nad yw wedi ei guddio oddi wrth eu hynafiaid;
18Which wise men have told from their fathers, and have not hidden;
19 iddynt hwy yn unig y rhoddwyd y ddaear, ac ni thramwyodd dieithryn yn eu plith):
19Unto whom alone the earth was given, and no stranger passed among them.
20 bydd yr annuwiol mewn helbul holl ddyddiau ei oes, trwy gydol y blynyddoedd a bennwyd i'r creulon.
20All his days the wicked man is tormented, and numbered years are allotted to the violent.
21 Su373?n dychryniadau sydd yn ei glustiau, a daw'r dinistriwr arno yn awr ei lwyddiant.
21The sound of terrors is in his ears: in prosperity the destroyer cometh upon him.
22 Nid oes iddo obaith dychwelyd o'r tywyllwch; y mae wedi ei dynghedu i'r cleddyf.
22He believeth not that he shall return out of darkness, and he is singled out for the sword.
23 Crwydryn yw, ac ysglyfaeth i'r fwltur; gu373?yr mai diwrnod tywyll sydd wedi ei bennu iddo.
23He wandereth abroad for bread, -- where may it be? He knoweth that the day of darkness is ready at his hand.
24 Brawychir ef gan ofid a chyfyngder; llethir ef fel brenin parod i ymosod.
24Distress and anguish make him afraid; they prevail against him, as a king ready for the battle.
25 Oherwydd iddo estyn ei law yn erbyn Duw, ac ymffrostio yn erbyn yr Hollalluog,
25For he hath stretched out his hand against ùGod, and strengthened himself against the Almighty:
26 a rhuthro arno'n haerllug, a both ei darian yn drwchus;
26He runneth against him, with [outstretched] neck, with the thick bosses of his bucklers;
27 oherwydd i'w wyneb chwyddo gan fraster, ac i'w lwynau dewychu bloneg,
27For he hath covered his face with his fatness, and gathered fat upon [his] flanks.
28 fe drig mewn dinasoedd diffaith, mewn tai heb neb yn byw ynddynt, lleoedd sydd ar fin adfeilio.
28And he dwelleth in desolate cities, in houses that no man inhabiteth, which are destined to become heaps.
29 Ni ddaw'n gyfoethog, ac ni phery ei gyfoeth, ac ni chynydda'i olud yn y tir.
29He shall not become rich, neither shall his substance continue, and their possessions shall not extend upon the earth.
30 Ni ddianc rhag y tywyllwch. Deifir ei frig gan y fflam, a syrth ei flagur yn y gwynt.
30He shall not depart out of darkness; the flame shall dry up his branches; and by the breath of his mouth shall he go away.
31 Peidied ag ymddiried mewn gwagedd a'i dwyllo'i hun, canys gwagedd fydd ei dl.
31Let him not trust in vanity: he is deceived, for vanity shall be his recompense;
32 Bydd yn gwywo cyn ei amser, ac ni lasa'i gangen.
32It shall be complete before his day, and his branch shall not be green.
33 Dihidla'i rawnwin anaeddfed fel gwinwydden, a bwrw ei flodau fel olewydden.
33He shall shake off his unripe grapes as a vine, and shall cast his flower as an olive.
34 Diffrwyth yw cwmni'r annuwiol, ac fe ysa'r tn drigfannau breibwyr.
34For the family of the ungodly shall be barren, and fire shall consume the tents of bribery.
35 Beichiogant ar flinder ac ymddu373?yn drwg, ac ar dwyll yr esgor eu croth."
35They conceive mischief, and bring forth iniquity, and their belly prepareth deceit.
