Proverbs

20

1Wine is a scorner, strong drink is raging; and whoso erreth thereby is not wise.
2 Y mae bygythiad brenin fel rhuad llew ifanc; y mae'r sawl a'i cynhyrfa'n peryglu ei fywyd.

7The righteous walketh in his integrity: blessed are his children after him!
8 Y mae brenin sy'n eistedd ar orsedd barn yn gallu nithio pob drwg 'i lygaid.
8A king sitting on the throne of judgment scattereth away all evil with his eyes.
9 Pwy a all ddweud, "Yr wyf wedi puro fy meddwl; yr wyf yn ln o'm pechod"?
9Who can say, I have made my heart clean, I am pure from my sin?
10 Pan geir amrywiaeth mewn pwysau neu fesurau, y mae'r naill a'r llall yn ffiaidd gan yr ARGLWYDD.
10Divers weights, divers measures, even both of them are abomination to Jehovah.
11 Trwy ei weithredoedd y dengys yr ifanc a yw ei waith yn bur ac yn uniawn.
11Even a child is known by his doings, whether his work be pure, and whether it be right.
12 Y glust sy'n clywed a'r llygad sy'n gweld, yr ARGLWYDD a'u gwnaeth ill dau.
12The hearing ear, and the seeing eye, Jehovah hath made even both of them.
13 Paid bod yn hoff o gysgu, rhag iti fynd yn dlawd; cadw dy lygad yn agored, a chei ddigon o fwyd.
13Love not sleep, lest thou come to poverty; open thine eyes, [and] thou shalt be satisfied with bread.
14 "Gwael iawn," meddai'r prynwr; ond wrth fynd ymaith, y mae'n canmol ei fargen.
14Bad! bad! saith the buyer; but when he is gone his way, then he boasteth.
15 Y mae digonedd o aur ac o emau, ond geiriau deallus yw'r trysor gwerthfawrocaf.
15There is gold, and a multitude of rubies; but the lips of knowledge are a precious Jewel.
16 Cymer wisg y sawl sy'n mechno dros estron, a chadw hi'n ernes o'i addewid ar ran dieithryn.
16Take his garment that is become surety [for] another, and hold him in pledge for strangers.
17 Melys i rywun yw bara a gafwyd trwy dwyll, ond yn y diwedd llenwir ei geg graean.
17Bread of falsehood is sweet to a man, but afterwards his mouth shall be filled with gravel.
18 Sicrheir cynlluniau trwy gyngor; rhaid trefnu'n ofalus ar gyfer rhyfel.
18Plans are established by counsel; and with good advice make war.

19He that goeth about talebearing revealeth secrets; therefore meddle not with him that openeth his lips.
20 Os bydd rhywun yn melltithio ei dad a'i fam, diffoddir ei oleuni mewn tywyllwch dudew.
20Whoso curseth his father or his mother, his lamp shall be put out in the blackest darkness.
21 Os ceir etifeddiaeth sydyn yn y dechrau, ni bydd bendith ar ei diwedd.
21An inheritance obtained hastily at the beginning will not be blessed in the end.
22 Paid dweud, "Talaf y pwyth yn l"; disgwyl wrth yr ARGLWYDD i achub dy gam.
22Say not, I will recompense evil: wait on Jehovah, and he shall save thee.
23 Ffiaidd gan yr ARGLWYDD yw amrywiaeth mewn pwysau, ac nid da ganddo gloriannau twyllodrus.
23Divers weights are an abomination unto Jehovah; and a false balance is not good.
24 Yr ARGLWYDD sy'n rheoli camre pobl; sut y gall neb ddeall ei ffordd?
24The steps of a man are from Jehovah; and how can a man understand his own way?
25 Gall rhywun fynd i fagl wrth gysegru'n fyrbwyll, ac yna dechrau ystyried ar l gwneud addunedau.
25It is a snare to a man rashly to say, It is hallowed, and after vows to make inquiry.
26 Y mae brenin doeth yn nithio'r drygionus, ac yn troi'r rhod yn eu herbyn.
26A wise king scattereth the wicked, and bringeth the wheel over them.
27 Llewyrcha'r ARGLWYDD ar ysbryd pobl, i chwilio i ddyfnderau eu bod.
27Man's spirit is the lamp of Jehovah, searching all the inner parts of the belly.
28 Y mae teyrngarwch a chywirdeb yn gwarchod y brenin, a diogelir ei orsedd gan deyrngarwch.
