Exodus

18

1 Clywodd Jethro, offeiriad yn Midian a thad-yng-nghyfraith Moses, am y cyfan a wnaeth Duw i Moses ac i'w bobl Israel, ac fel yr oedd yr ARGLWYDD wedi eu harwain allan o'r Aifft.
1Now Jethro, the priest of Midian, Moses’ father-in-law, heard of all that God had done for Moses, and for Israel his people, how that Yahweh had brought Israel out of Egypt.
2 Wedi i Moses yrru ymaith ei wraig Seffora, rhoddodd Jethro, ei dad-yng-nghyfraith, gartref iddi hi
2Jethro, Moses’ father-in-law, received Zipporah, Moses’ wife, after he had sent her away,
3 a'i dau fab. Gersom oedd enw'r naill: "Oherwydd," meddai, "bm yn ddieithryn mewn gwlad ddieithr."
3and her two sons. The name of one son was Gershom, for Moses said, “I have lived as a foreigner in a foreign land”.
4 Ac Elieser oedd enw'r llall: "Oherwydd," meddai, "bu Duw fy nhad yn gymorth imi, ac fe'm hachubodd rhag cleddyf Pharo."
4The name of the other was Eliezer, for he said, “My father’s God was my help and delivered me from Pharaoh’s sword.”
5 Daeth Jethro, tad-yng-nghyfraith Moses, meibion Moses a'i wraig ato i'r anialwch lle'r oedd yn gwersyllu wrth fynydd Duw,
5Jethro, Moses’ father-in-law, came with his sons and his wife to Moses into the wilderness where he was encamped, at the Mountain of God.
6 a dweud wrth Moses, "Yr wyf fi, Jethro dy dad-yng-nghyfraith, wedi dod atat gyda'th wraig a'i dau fab."
6He said to Moses, “I, your father-in-law Jethro, have come to you with your wife, and her two sons with her.”
7 Aeth yntau allan i'w gyfarch, ac ymgrymu a'i gusanu; yna ar l iddynt gyfarch ei gilydd, aethant i mewn i'r babell.
7Moses went out to meet his father-in-law, and bowed and kissed him. They asked each other of their welfare, and they came into the tent.
8 Adroddodd Moses wrth ei dad-yng-nghyfraith y cyfan a wnaeth yr ARGLWYDD i Pharo a'r Eifftiaid er mwyn Israel, a'r holl helbul a gawsant ar y ffordd, ac fel yr achubodd yr ARGLWYDD hwy.
8Moses told his father-in-law all that Yahweh had done to Pharaoh and to the Egyptians for Israel’s sake, all the hardships that had come on them on the way, and how Yahweh delivered them.
9 Llawenychodd Jethro oherwydd yr holl bethau da a wnaeth yr ARGLWYDD i Israel trwy eu hachub o law'r Eifftiaid,
9Jethro rejoiced for all the goodness which Yahweh had done to Israel, in that he had delivered them out of the hand of the Egyptians.
10 a dywedodd, "Bendigedig fyddo'r ARGLWYDD a'ch achubodd o law'r Eifftiaid ac o law Pharo.
10Jethro said, “Blessed be Yahweh, who has delivered you out of the hand of the Egyptians, and out of the hand of Pharaoh; who has delivered the people from under the hand of the Egyptians.
11 Gwn yn awr fod yr ARGLWYDD yn fwy na'r holl dduwiau, oherwydd fe achubodd y bobl o law'r Eifftiaid a fu'n eu trin yn drahaus."
11Now I know that Yahweh is greater than all gods because of the thing in which they dealt arrogantly against them.”
12 Yna cyflwynodd Jethro, tad-yng-nghyfraith Moses, boethoffrwm ac ebyrth i Dduw, a daeth Aaron a holl henuriaid Israel i fwyta bara gydag ef ym mhresenoldeb Duw.
12Jethro, Moses’ father-in-law, took a burnt offering and sacrifices for God. Aaron came with all of the elders of Israel, to eat bread with Moses’ father-in-law before God.
13 Eisteddodd Moses drannoeth i farnu'r bobl, a hwythau'n sefyll o'i flaen o'r bore hyd yr hwyr.
13It happened on the next day, that Moses sat to judge the people, and the people stood around Moses from the morning to the evening.
14 Pan welodd ei dad-yng-nghyfraith y cwbl yr oedd Moses yn ei wneud er mwyn y bobl, dywedodd, "Beth yw hyn yr wyt yn ei wneud drostynt? Pam yr wyt yn eistedd ar dy ben dy hun, a'r holl bobl yn sefyll o'th flaen o fore hyd hwyr?"
14When Moses’ father-in-law saw all that he did to the people, he said, “What is this thing that you do for the people? Why do you sit alone, and all the people stand around you from morning to evening?”
15 Atebodd Moses ef, "Am fod y bobl yn dod ataf i ymgynghori Duw.
15Moses said to his father-in-law, “Because the people come to me to inquire of God.
16 Pan fydd achos yn codi, fe ddnt ataf fi i mi farnu rhwng pobl a'i gilydd, a datgan deddfau Duw a'i gyfreithiau."
16When they have a matter, they come to me, and I judge between a man and his neighbor, and I make them know the statutes of God, and his laws.”
17 Dywedodd tad-yng-nghyfraith Moses wrtho, "Nid dyma'r ffordd orau iti weithredu.
17Moses’ father-in-law said to him, “The thing that you do is not good.
18 Byddi di a'r bobl sydd gyda thi wedi diffygio'n llwyr; y mae'r gwaith yn rhy drwm iti, ac ni elli ei gyflawni dy hun.
18You will surely wear away, both you, and this people that is with you; for the thing is too heavy for you. You are not able to perform it yourself alone.
19 Gwrando'n awr arnaf fi, ac fe'th gynghoraf, a bydded Duw gyda thi. Ti sydd i gynrychioli'r bobl o flaen Duw, a dod 'u hachosion ato ef.
19Listen now to my voice. I will give you counsel, and God be with you. You represent the people before God, and bring the causes to God.
20 Ti hefyd sydd i ddysgu i'r bobl y deddfau a'r cyfreithiau, a rhoi gwybod iddynt sut y dylent ymddwyn a beth y dylent ei wneud.
20You shall teach them the statutes and the laws, and shall show them the way in which they must walk, and the work that they must do.
21 Ond ethol o blith yr holl bobl wu375?r galluog a gonest, sy'n parchu Duw ac yn casu llwgrwobrwyo, a'u penodi dros y bobl yn swyddogion ar unedau o fil, o gant, o hanner cant ac o ddeg.
21Moreover you shall provide out of all the people able men, such as fear God: men of truth, hating unjust gain; and place such over them, to be rulers of thousands, rulers of hundreds, rulers of fifties, and rulers of tens.
22 Boed iddynt hwy farnu'r bobl ar bob achlysur; gallent ddod phob achos anodd atat ti, ond hwy eu hunain sydd i farnu pob achos syml. Bydd yn ysgafnach arnat os byddant hwy'n rhannu'r baich thi.
22Let them judge the people at all times. It shall be that every great matter they shall bring to you, but every small matter they shall judge themselves. So shall it be easier for you, and they shall share the load with you.
23 Os gwnei hyn, a hynny ar orchymyn Duw, gelli ddal ati; ac fe 'r bobl hyn i gyd adref yn fodlon."
23If you will do this thing, and God commands you so, then you will be able to endure, and all of these people also will go to their place in peace.”
24 Gwrandawodd Moses ar ei dad-yng-nghyfraith, a gwnaeth bopeth a orchmynnodd ef.
24So Moses listened to the voice of his father-in-law, and did all that he had said.
25 Dewisodd wu375?r galluog o blith yr holl Israeliaid a'u gwneud yn benaethiaid ar y bobl, ac yn swyddogion ar unedau o fil, o gant, o hanner cant ac o ddeg.
25Moses chose able men out of all Israel, and made them heads over the people, rulers of thousands, rulers of hundreds, rulers of fifties, and rulers of tens.
26 Hwy oedd yn barnu'r bobl ar bob achlysur; deuent 'r achosion dyrys at Moses, ond hwy eu hunain oedd yn barnu'r holl achosion syml.
26They judged the people at all times. They brought the hard causes to Moses, but every small matter they judged themselves.
27 Ffarweliodd Moses 'i dad-yng-nghyfraith, ac aeth Jethro adref i'w wlad ei hun.
27Moses let his father-in-law depart, and he went his way into his own land.
