1 Yna atebodd Eliffas y Temaniad:
1Then Eliphaz the Temanite answered,
2 "Os mentra rhywun lefaru wrthyt, a golli di dy amynedd? Eto pwy a all atal geiriau?
2“If someone ventures to talk with you, will you be grieved? But who can withhold himself from speaking?
3 Wele, buost yn cynghori llawer ac yn nerthu'r llesg eu dwylo;
3Behold, you have instructed many, you have strengthened the weak hands.
4 cynhaliodd dy eiriau'r rhai sigledig, a chadarnhau'r gliniau gwan.
4Your words have supported him who was falling, You have made firm the feeble knees.
5 Ond yn awr daeth adfyd arnat ti, a chymeraist dramgwydd; cyffyrddodd thi, ac yr wyt mewn helbul.
5But now it has come to you, and you faint. It touches you, and you are troubled.
6 Onid yw dy dduwioldeb yn hyder i ti, ac uniondeb dy fywyd yn obaith?
6Isn’t your piety your confidence? Isn’t the integrity of your ways your hope?
7 Ystyria'n awr, pwy sydd wedi ei ddifetha ac yntau'n ddieuog, a phwy o'r uniawn sydd wedi ei dorri i lawr?
7“Remember, now, whoever perished, being innocent? Or where were the upright cut off?
8 Fel hyn y gwelais i: y rhai sy'n aredig helbul ac yn hau gorthrymder, hwy sy'n ei fedi.
8According to what I have seen, those who plow iniquity, and sow trouble, reap the same.
9 Difethir hwy gan anadl Duw, a darfyddant wrth chwythiad ei ffroenau.
9By the breath of God they perish. By the blast of his anger are they consumed.
10 Peidia rhu'r llew a llais y llew cryf; pydra dannedd y llewod ifanc.
10The roaring of the lion, and the voice of the fierce lion, the teeth of the young lions, are broken.
11 Bydd farw'r hen lew o eisiau ysglyfaeth, a gwneir yn amddifad genawon y llewes.
11The old lion perishes for lack of prey. The cubs of the lioness are scattered abroad.
12 "Daeth gair ataf fi yn ddirgel; daliodd fy nghlust sibrwd ohono
12“Now a thing was secretly brought to me. My ear received a whisper of it.
13 yn y cynnwrf a ddaw gyda gweledigaethau'r nos, pan ddaw trymgwsg ar bawb.
13In thoughts from the visions of the night, when deep sleep falls on men,
14 Daeth dychryn a chryndod arnaf, a chynhyrfu fy holl esgyrn.
14fear came on me, and trembling, which made all my bones shake.
15 Llithrodd awel heibio i'm hwyneb, a gwnaeth i flew fy nghorff sefyll.
15Then a spirit passed before my face. The hair of my flesh stood up.
16 Safodd yn llonydd, ond ni allwn ddirnad beth oedd; yr oedd ffurf o flaen fy llygaid; bu distawrwydd, yna clywais lais:
16It stood still, but I couldn’t discern its appearance. A form was before my eyes. Silence, then I heard a voice, saying,
17 'A yw meidrol yn fwy cyfiawn na Duw, ac yn burach na'i Wneuthurwr?
17‘Shall mortal man be more just than God? Shall a man be more pure than his Maker?
18 Os nad yw Duw'n ymddiried yn ei weision, ac os yw'n cyhuddo'i angylion o gamwedd,
18Behold, he puts no trust in his servants. He charges his angels with error.
19 beth, ynteu, am y rhai sy'n trigo mewn tai o glai, a'u sylfeini mewn pridd, y rhai a falurir yn gynt na gwyfyn?
19How much more, those who dwell in houses of clay, whose foundation is in the dust, who are crushed before the moth!
20 Torrir hwy i lawr rhwng bore a hwyr, llwyr ddifethir hwy, heb neb yn sylwi.
20Between morning and evening they are destroyed. They perish forever without any regarding it.
21 Pan ddatodir llinyn eu pabell, oni fyddant farw heb ddoethineb?'
21Isn’t their tent cord plucked up within them? They die, and that without wisdom.’
