1شائول به پسر خود یُوناتان و خادمان خود گفت که داود را بقتل برسانند. اما یُوناتان چون داود را دوست داشت،
1And Saul spake to Jonathan his son, and to all his servants, that they should kill David.
2به داود خبر داده گفت: «پدرم، شائول قصد کشتن ترا دارد. پس تا صبح مراقب خود باش. در جائی پنهان شو و خود را مخفی نگاهدار.
2But Jonathan Saul's son delighted much in David: and Jonathan told David, saying, Saul my father seeketh to kill thee: now therefore, I pray thee, take heed to thyself until the morning, and abide in a secret place, and hide thyself:
3بعد من با پدرم در جائیکه تو پنهان می شوی می آیم و در بارۀ تو با او حرف می زنم و از نتیجۀ مذاکرۀ خود با او به تو اطلاع می دهم.»
3And I will go out and stand beside my father in the field where thou art, and I will commune with my father of thee; and what I see, that I will tell thee.
4یُوناتان پیش پدر خود از داود توصیف کرد و به او گفت: «خواهش می کنم به داود ضرری نرسانی، زیرا او هیچگاهی به تو کدام بدی نکرده است. رفتار او در مقابل تو نیک و صادقانه بوده است
4And Jonathan spake good of David unto Saul his father, and said unto him, Let not the king sin against his servant, against David; because he hath not sinned against thee, and because his works have been to thee-ward very good:
5او جان خود را بخطر انداخت و آن فلسطینی را کشت و خداوند پیروزی بزرگی نصیب اسرائیل کرد. خودت آنرا به چشم خود دیدی و خوشحال شدی. پس چرا دست خود را بخون یک بیگناه آلوده می کنی و می خواهی که داود را بی سبب بکشی؟»
5For he did put his life in his hand, and slew the Philistine, and the LORD wrought a great salvation for all Israel: thou sawest it, and didst rejoice: wherefore then wilt thou sin against innocent blood, to slay David without a cause?
6شائول خواهش یُوناتان را قبول کرد و بنام خداوند قسم خورد که داود را نکشد.
6And Saul hearkened unto the voice of Jonathan: and Saul sware, As the LORD liveth, he shall not be slain.
7بعد یُوناتان داود را فراخواند و همه چیز را به او گفت؛ سپس او را بحضور شائول برد و مثل سابق به وظیفۀ خود مشغول شد.
7And Jonathan called David, and Jonathan showed him all those things. And Jonathan brought David to Saul, and he was in his presence, as in times past.
8طولی نکشید که دوباره جنگ شروع شد و داود با یک حمله فلسطینی ها را شکست داد و آن ها با دادن تلفات سنگینی فرار کردند.
8And there was war again: and David went out, and fought with the Philistines, and slew them with a great slaughter; and they fled from him.
9بعد یکروز شائول در خانۀ خود نشسته بود و نیزۀ خود را در دست داشت و به نوای چنگ داود گوش می داد که دفعتاً روح پلید از جانب خداوند بر شائول آمد.
9And the evil spirit from the LORD was upon Saul, as he sat in his house with his javelin in his hand: and David played with his hand.
10و شائول خواست که داود را با نیزۀ خود بدیوار میخ کند، مگر داود از حضور شائول گریخت و نیزه بدیوار فرو رفت. او از آنجا فرار کرد و از کشته شدن نجات یافت.
10And Saul sought to smite David even to the wall with the javelin: but he slipped away out of Saul's presence, and he smote the javelin into the wall: and David fled, and escaped that night.
11در آنشب شائول یک تعداد مردان خود را به خانۀ داود فرستاد تا مراقب او باشند و فردای آن وقتیکه از خانه خارج شود، او را بکشند. اما میکال، زن داود از خطریکه متوجه او بود، باخبرش ساخت و گفت همین امشب از خانه خارج شو، ورنه فردا زنده نخواهی بود.
11Saul also sent messengers unto David's house, to watch him, and to slay him in the morning: and Michal David's wife told him, saying, If thou save not thy life to night, to morrow thou shalt be slain.
12میکال داود را از راه کلکین پائین کرد و داود از خانه گریخت.
12So Michal let David down through a window: and he went, and fled, and escaped.
13بعد میکال یک مجسمه را گرفت در بستر قرار داد و بالشی از موی بز زیر سرش گذاشت و آنرا با لحافی پوشاند.
13And Michal took an image, and laid it in the bed, and put a pillow of goats' hair for his bolster, and covered it with a cloth.
14وقتی فرستادگان شائول آمدند که او را ببرند، میکال گفت که داود مریض است.
14And when Saul sent messengers to take David, she said, He is sick.
15شائول چند نفر را فرستاد و گفت: «او را در بسترش بحضور من بیاورید که او را بکشم.»
15And Saul sent the messengers again to see David, saying, Bring him up to me in the bed, that I may slay him.
16وقتی آن ها آمدند، دیدند که مجسمه ای در بستر قرار دارد و بالشی زیر سر آن بود.
16And when the messengers were come in, behold, there was an image in the bed, with a pillow of goats' hair for his bolster.
17شائول از میکال پرسید: «چرا مرا فریب دادی و دشمن مرا گذاشتی که برود و فرار کند؟» میکال جواب داد: «او به من گفت که یا مرا بگذار که فرار کنم یا ترا می کشم.»
17And Saul said unto Michal, Why hast thou deceived me so, and sent away mine enemy, that he is escaped? And Michal answered Saul, He said unto me, Let me go; why should I kill thee?
18به این ترتیب، داود فرار کرد و خود را سالم پیش سموئیل در رامه رساند و به او گفت که شائول چگونه با او رفتار کرد. پس سموئیل داود را با خود گرفته به نایُوت بُرد تا در آنجا زندگی کند.
18So David fled, and escaped, and came to Samuel to Ramah, and told him all that Saul had done to him. And he and Samuel went and dwelt in Naioth.
19و چون به شائول خبر دادند که داود در نایُوت است
19And it was told Saul, saying, Behold, David is at Naioth in Ramah.
20باز چند نفر را فرستاد که او را دستگیر کنند. وقتی آن ها به آنجا آمدند، چند نفر از انبیاء را دیدند که نبوت می کنند و سموئیل در رأس آن ها ایستاده است. آنگاه روح خداوند بر فرستادگان شائول آمد و آن ها هم به نبوت شروع کردند.
20And Saul sent messengers to take David: and when they saw the company of the prophets prophesying, and Samuel standing as appointed over them, the Spirit of God was upon the messengers of Saul, and they also prophesied.
21چون شائول از واقعه خبر شد، یک تعداد دیگر را فرستاد و آن ها هم نبوت کردند. او برای بار سوم فرستادگانی را فرستاد که برای آنان هم همان اتّفاق افتاد.
21And when it was told Saul, he sent other messengers, and they prophesied likewise. And Saul sent messengers again the third time, and they prophesied also.
22سپس خودش بطرف رامه براه افتاد. وقتی به چاه بزرگی در سیخوه رسید، از مردم پرسید: «سموئیل و داود کجا هستند؟» یکنفر جواب داد: «آن ها در نایُوت رامه هستند.»
22Then went he also to Ramah, and came to a great well that is in Sechu: and he asked and said, Where are Samuel and David? And one said, Behold, they be at Naioth in Ramah.
23در راه نایُوت روح خداوند بر او هم آمد و او هم در حالیکه در راه خود روان بود، نبوت می کرد تا اینکه به نایُوت رامه رسید.او هم لباس خود را از تن کشید و در حضور سموئیل نبوت کرد. و تمام روز و شب در همانجا برهنه افتاده بود. مردم پرسیدند: «آیا شائول هم از جملۀ انبیاء است؟»
23And he went thither to Naioth in Ramah: and the Spirit of God was upon him also, and he went on, and prophesied, until he came to Naioth in Ramah.
24او هم لباس خود را از تن کشید و در حضور سموئیل نبوت کرد. و تمام روز و شب در همانجا برهنه افتاده بود. مردم پرسیدند: «آیا شائول هم از جملۀ انبیاء است؟»
24And he stripped off his clothes also, and prophesied before Samuel in like manner, and lay down naked all that day and all that night. Wherefore they say, Is Saul also among the prophets?
