¹آنگاه ایوب جواب داد:

¹And Job answered and said,

²«شما فکر می کنید که عقل همه مردم را دارید و وقتی بمیرید حکمت هم با شما می میرد.

²No doubt but ye are the people, and wisdom shall die with you.

³اما بدانید که من هم مانند شما عقل دارم و از شما کمتر نیستم. چیزهائی را که گفتید هر کسی می داند.

³But I have understanding as well as you; I am not inferior to you: yea, who knoweth not such things as these?

⁴در گذشته، هرگاه پیش خدا دعا می کردم، او دعای مرا اجابت می فرمود، اما حالا، در حالیکه گناهی ندارم، حتی دوستانم به من می خندند و مسخره ام می کنند.

⁴I am as one mocked of his neighbour, who calleth upon God, and he answereth him: the just upright man is laughed to scorn.

⁵آنهائی که آسوده و آرامند مصیبت زدگان را توهین می کنند و به افتادگان لگد می زنند.

⁵He that is ready to slip with his feet is as a lamp despised in the thought of him that is at ease.

⁶خانۀ دزدان در امان است و کسانی که از خدا نمی ترسند، در آسایش بسر می برند. آن ها به قدرت خود متکی هستند نه به خدا.

⁶The tabernacles of robbers prosper, and they that provoke God are secure; into whose hand God bringeth abundantly.

⁷چیزهائی را که شما می گوئید، اگر از حیوانات بپرسید به شما می آموزند. اگر از پرندگان سوال کنید به شما جواب می دهند. نباتات زمین برای تان بیان می کنند و حتی ماهیان به شما می گویند که دست قدرت خدا همه چیز را آفریده است.

⁷But ask now the beasts, and they shall teach thee; and the fowls of the air, and they shall tell thee:

⁸زندگی هر زنده جان و نَفَس همۀ بشر در دست او است.

⁸Or speak to the earth, and it shall teach thee: and the fishes of the sea shall declare unto thee.

⁹همانطوریکه با زبان مزۀ طعام خوب را می فهمیم، با گوش هم کلام حقیقت را تشخیص می دهیم.

⁹Who knoweth not in all these that the hand of the LORD hath wrought this?

¹⁰اشخاص پیر دانا هستند، اما خدا دانا و توانا است. اشخاص پیر بصیرت دارند، ولی خدا دارای بصیرت و قدرت است.

¹⁰In whose hand is the soul of every living thing, and the breath of all mankind.

¹¹آنچه را که خدا خراب کند، هیچ کسی نمی تواند آباد نماید. اگر کسی را به زندان بیندازد، کسی نمی تواند او را آزاد کند.

¹¹Doth not the ear try words? and the mouth taste his meat?

¹²هرگاه باران را متوقف سازد، زمین خشک می شود و اگر طوفان را بفرستد زمین را زیر آب غرق می کند.

¹²With the ancient is wisdom; and in length of days understanding.

¹³بلی، خدا توانا و دانا است و اختیار فریب دهندگان و فریب خوردگان در دست او است.

¹³With him is wisdom and strength, he hath counsel and understanding.

¹⁴حکمت فرمانروایان و مشاوران را از آن ها می گیرد و قضات را احمق می سازد.

¹⁴Behold, he breaketh down, and it cannot be built again: he shutteth up a man, and there can be no opening.

¹⁵پادشاهان را خلع و اسیر خود می کند.

¹⁵Behold, he withholdeth the waters, and they dry up: also he sendeth them out, and they overturn the earth.

¹⁶کاهنان را حقیر و زورمندان را سرنگون می سازد.

¹⁶With him is strength and wisdom: the deceived and the deceiver are his.

¹⁷بلاغت معتمدین و فهم اشخاص پیر را از بین می برد.

¹⁷He leadeth counsellors away spoiled, and maketh the judges fools.

¹⁸حاکمان را ذلیل و زورمندان را حقیر می کند.

¹⁸He looseth the bond of kings, and girdeth their loins with a girdle.

¹⁹چیزهائی را که تاریک و مبهم هستند روشن می سازد.

¹⁹He leadeth princes away spoiled, and overthroweth the mighty.

²⁰به ملتها قوت و نیرو می بخشد و بعد آن ها را از بین می برد. به تعداد شان می افزاید و سپس آن ها را به دست دشمن می سپارد.

²⁰He removeth away the speech of the trusty, and taketh away the understanding of the aged.

²¹حکمت زمامداران جهان را از آن ها می گیرد و آن ها را در بیابان آواره می سازد.در تاریکی کورمال کورمال راه می روند و مانند مستان، اُفتان و خیزان قدم می زنند.

²¹He poureth contempt upon princes, and weakeneth the strength of the mighty.

²²He discovereth deep things out of darkness, and bringeth out to light the shadow of death.

²³He increaseth the nations, and destroyeth them: he enlargeth the nations, and straiteneth them again.

²⁴He taketh away the heart of the chief of the people of the earth, and causeth them to wander in a wilderness where there is no way.

²⁵They grope in the dark without light, and he maketh them to stagger like a drunken man.
