¹به اشخاص بدکار حسادت نورز و آرزوی دوستی آن ها را نداشته باش،

¹Be not thou envious against evil men, neither desire to be with them.

²زیرا تمام فکر و ذکر آن ها این است که به مردم ظلم کنند، و هر وقتیکه دهان می گشایند مردم را می رنجانند.

²For their heart studieth destruction, and their lips talk of mischief.

³خانه بر بنای حکمت و دانش آباد می گردد،

³Through wisdom is an house builded; and by understanding it is established:

⁴اطاق هایش با دانائی از اسباب نفیس و گرانقیمت پُر می شوند.

⁴And by knowledge shall the chambers be filled with all precious and pleasant riches.

⁵شخص دانا و فهمیده از قدرت زیاد برخوردار است و همیشه به قدرت خود می افزاید.

⁵A wise man is strong; yea, a man of knowledge increaseth strength.

⁶پیروزی در جنگ مربوط به تدابیر خوب و مشورت زیاد است.

⁶For by wise counsel thou shalt make thy war: and in multitude of counsellors there is safety.

⁷شخص احمق نمی تواند به حکمت دست یابد. وقتی موضوع مهمی مورد بحث قرار می گیرد، او حرفی برای گفتن ندارد.

⁷Wisdom is too high for a fool: he openeth not his mouth in the gate.

⁸کسی که دایم نقشه های پلید در سر می پروراند، عاقبت رسوا می شود.

⁸He that deviseth to do evil shall be called a mischievous person.

⁹نقشه های آدم احمق گناه آلود اند و کسی که دیگران را مسخره می کند، مورد نفرت همۀ مردم می باشد.

⁹The thought of foolishness is sin: and the scorner is an abomination to men.

¹⁰اگر سختی های زندگی را تحمل کرده نتوانی، شخص ضعیفی هستی.

¹⁰If thou faint in the day of adversity, thy strength is small.

¹¹از نجات دادن کسی که به ناحق محکوم شده است، کوتاهی نکن.

¹¹If thou forbear to deliver them that are drawn unto death, and those that are ready to be slain;

¹²نگو که از ماجرا بیخبر بوده ای، زیرا خدائی که جان ترا در دست دارد و از دل تو آگاه است، می داند که تو از همه چیز باخبر بوده ای. او هر کسی را مطابق اعمالش جزا می دهد.

¹²If thou sayest, Behold, we knew it not; doth not he that pondereth the heart consider it? and he that keepeth thy soul, doth not he know it? and shall not he render to every man according to his works?

¹³فرزندم، همانطوری که خوردن عسل کام ترا شیرین می کند، کسب حکمت نیز برای جان تو شیرین خواهد بود. کسی که حکمت می آموزد آیندۀ خوبی در انتظارش می باشد و امیدهای او برباد نمی رود.

¹³My son, eat thou honey, because it is good; and the honeycomb, which is sweet to thy taste:

¹⁴مانند بدکاران نباش که منتظر هستند تا خانهٔ مردم درستکار را غارت و ویران کنند،

¹⁴So shall the knowledge of wisdom be unto thy soul: when thou hast found it, then there shall be a reward, and thy expectation shall not be cut off.

¹⁵زیرا شخص راستکار حتی اگر هفت بار هم بیفتد، باز بر می خیزد، ولی اشخاص بدکار گرفتار بلا شده سرنگون می گردند.

¹⁵Lay not wait, O wicked man, against the dwelling of the righteous; spoil not his resting place:

¹⁶وقتی دشمنانت دچار مصیبت می شوند، خوشحال نشو و هنگامی که می افتند خوشی نکن،

¹⁶For a just man falleth seven times, and riseth up again: but the wicked shall fall into mischief.

¹⁷زیرا خداوند این کار ترا می بیند و نمی پسندد و آنگاه از مجازات آن ها دست بر می دارد.

¹⁷Rejoice not when thine enemy falleth, and let not thine heart be glad when he stumbleth:

¹⁸بخاطر مردم بدکار، تشویش نداشته باش و به آن ها حسادت نورز،

¹⁸Lest the LORD see it, and it displease him, and he turn away his wrath from him.

¹⁹زیرا شخص بدکار آینده ای ندارد و چراغش خاموش می شود.

¹⁹Fret not thyself because of evil men, neither be thou envious at the wicked:

²⁰فرزندم از خداوند و پادشاه بترس و با کسانی که علیه آن ها شورش می کنند همدست نشو.

²⁰For there shall be no reward to the evil man; the candle of the wicked shall be put out.

²¹زیرا نابودی آن ها ناگهانی است و کسی نمی داند که خداوند و پادشاه چه بلائی را بر سر آن ها می آورد.

²¹My son, fear thou the LORD and the king: and meddle not with them that are given to change:

²²مردان حکیم این سخنان را نیز گفته اند: قاضی نباید در وقت محاکمه از کسی طرفداری کند.

²²For their calamity shall rise suddenly; and who knoweth the ruin of them both?

²³هر کسی که به مجرم بگوید: «تو بیگناه هستی»، مورد لعنت و نفرت مردم قرار می گیرد.

²³These things also belong to the wise. It is not good to have respect of persons in judgment.

²⁴اما شخصی که گناهکار را محکوم کند، سعادت و برکت نصیبش می شود.

²⁴He that saith unto the wicked, Thou are righteous; him shall the people curse, nations shall abhor him:

²⁵جواب صادقانه مانند بوسۀ یک دوست دلچسپ است.

²⁵But to them that rebuke him shall be delight, and a good blessing shall come upon them.

²⁶اول کار و کسبی برای خود پیدا کن و بعد خانه و خانواده ات را تشکیل بده.

²⁶Every man shall kiss his lips that giveth a right answer.

²⁷علیه همسایه ات شهادت دروغ مده و سخنان غلط در باره اش بر زبان نیاور.

²⁷Prepare thy work without, and make it fit for thyself in the field; and afterwards build thine house.

²⁸نگو: «همان بلائی را که بر سر من آورده بر سر خودش می آورم.»

²⁸Be not a witness against thy neighbour without cause; and deceive not with thy lips.

²⁹از کنار مزرعۀ آدم تنبل و تاکستان مرد احمق گذشتم.

²⁹Say not, I will do so to him as he hath done to me: I will render to the man according to his work.

³⁰در همه جا خار روئیده بود. علف های هرزه زمین را پوشانده و دیوار مزرعه فروریخته بود.

³⁰I went by the field of the slothful, and by the vineyard of the man void of understanding;

³¹با دیدن این منظره به فکر فرورفتم و این درس را آموختم:

³¹And, lo, it was all grown over with thorns, and nettles had covered the face thereof, and the stone wall thereof was broken down.

³²کسی که دست بر دست هم می گذارد و دایم می خوابد و استراحت می کند،عاقبت فقر و تنگدستی مثل راهزن مسلحی به سراغش می آید.

³²Then I saw, and considered it well: I looked upon it, and received instruction.

³³عاقبت فقر و تنگدستی مثل راهزن مسلحی به سراغش می آید.

³³Yet a little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to sleep:

³⁴So shall thy poverty come as one that travelleth; and thy want as an armed man.
