¹اینها سخنانی است که مادر لموئیل پادشاه به او تعلیم داد:

¹The words of king Lemuel, the prophecy that his mother taught him.

²ای پسر من، ای پسری که ترا با نذر و دعا بدنیا آورده ام.

²What, my son? and what, the son of my womb? and what, the son of my vows?

³نیروی جوانی ات را صرف زنان مکن، زیرا آن ها باعث نابودی پادشاهان شده اند.

³Give not thy strength unto women, nor thy ways to that which destroyeth kings.

⁴ای لموئیل، به پادشاهان نمی زیبد که شراب بنوشند و نه شهزادگان را که خواهان مسکرات باشند.

⁴It is not for kings, O Lemuel, it is not for kings to drink wine; nor for princes strong drink:

⁵مبادا بنوشند و قوانین را فراموش کنند و نتوانند به داد مظلومان برسند.

⁵Lest they drink, and forget the law, and pervert the judgment of any of the afflicted.

⁶مسکرات را به کسانی بده که در انتظار مرگ هستند و شراب را به کام کسانی بریز که در بدبختی و تلخکامی بسر می برند،

⁶Give strong drink unto him that is ready to perish, and wine unto those that be of heavy hearts.

⁷تا بنوشند و بیچارگی خود را فراموش کنند و مشقت خویش را دیگر بیاد نیاورند.

⁷Let him drink, and forget his poverty, and remember his misery no more.

⁸دهان بگشا و از حق کسانی که بی زبان و بیچاره هستند، دفاع کن.

⁸Open thy mouth for the dumb in the cause of all such as are appointed to destruction.

⁹دهان خود را باز کن و با عدالت داوری کن و به کمک مردم فقیر و مسکین بشتاب.

⁹Open thy mouth, judge righteously, and plead the cause of the poor and needy.

¹⁰یک زن صالحه و لایق را چه کسی می تواند پیدا کند؟ ارزش او از جواهرات هم زیادتر است.

¹⁰Who can find a virtuous woman? for her price is far above rubies.

¹¹او مورد اعتماد شوهر خود می باشد و نمی گذارد که شوهرش به چیزی محتاج شود.

¹¹The heart of her husband doth safely trust in her, so that he shall have no need of spoil.

¹²در سراسر عمر به شوهر خود خوبی می کند نه بدی.

¹²She will do him good and not evil all the days of her life.

¹³پشم و کتان را می گیرد و با دستهای خود آن ها را می ریسد.

¹³She seeketh wool, and flax, and worketh willingly with her hands.

¹⁴او برای تهیۀ خوراک مانند کشتیهای تاجران به راههای دور می رود.

¹⁴She is like the merchants' ships; she bringeth her food from afar.

¹⁵پیش از آنکه هوا روشن شود از خواب بر می خیزد و برای خانوادۀ خود خوراک آماده می کند و هدایات لازم را به کنیزان خود می دهد.

¹⁵She riseth also while it is yet night, and giveth meat to her household, and a portion to her maidens.

¹⁶مزرعه ای را انتخاب می کند و در بارۀ آن فکر کرده، آن را می خرد و با دسترنج خود تاکستانی آباد می کند.

¹⁶She considereth a field, and buyeth it: with the fruit of her hands she planteth a vineyard.

¹⁷او نیرومند و پُرکار است.

¹⁷She girdeth her loins with strength, and strengtheneth her arms.

¹⁸ارزش چیزهایی را که درست می کند، می داند و شبها تا ناوقت کار می کند.

¹⁸She perceiveth that her merchandise is good: her candle goeth not out by night.

¹⁹با دستهای خود نخ می ریسد و پارچه می بافد.

¹⁹She layeth her hands to the spindle, and her hands hold the distaff.

²⁰از روی سخاوت به مردم فقیر کمک می کند.

²⁰She stretcheth out her hand to the poor; yea, she reacheth forth her hands to the needy.

²¹از برف و سرما نمی ترسد، زیرا برای اهل خانۀ خود لباس گرم دوخته است.

²¹She is not afraid of the snow for her household: for all her household are clothed with scarlet.

²²برای خود نیز لباسهای زیبا از پارچه های کتان ارغوانی می دوزد.

²²She maketh herself coverings of tapestry; her clothing is silk and purple.

²³شوهرش از مردان با رسوخ و محترم شهر است.

²³Her husband is known in the gates, when he sitteth among the elders of the land.

²⁴او لباس و کمربند تهیه می کند و به تاجران می فروشد.

²⁴She maketh fine linen, and selleth it; and delivereth girdles unto the merchant.

²⁵او زنی است قوی و باوقار و از آینده بیم ندارد.

²⁵Strength and honour are her clothing; and she shall rejoice in time to come.

²⁶دهان خود را با حکمت باز می کند و تعلیم محبت آمیز بر زبان وی است.

²⁶She openeth her mouth with wisdom; and in her tongue is the law of kindness.

²⁷او تنبلی نمی کند و احتیاجات خانوادۀ خود را فراهم می نماید.

²⁷She looketh well to the ways of her household, and eateth not the bread of idleness.

²⁸فرزندانش از او خوش و راضی هستند و شوهرش او را می ستاید و می گوید:

²⁸Her children arise up, and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praiseth her.

²⁹«تو بر همه زنان خوب و صالح برتری داری.»

²⁹Many daughters have done virtuously, but thou excellest them all.

³⁰جمال و زیبائی، فریبنده و ناپایدار است، اما زنی که از خداوند می ترسد، قابل ستایش است.پاداش کارهایش را به او بدهید و همگی باید او را تمجید کنند.

³⁰Favour is deceitful, and beauty is vain: but a woman that feareth the LORD, she shall be praised.

³¹پاداش کارهایش را به او بدهید و همگی باید او را تمجید کنند.

³¹Give her of the fruit of her hands; and let her own works praise her in the gates.
